The Conners: Season 110
Oct 18, 2018
The premiere episode felt more close to the original Roseanne series in tone, humor and pathos since the original series. Bravo to the extraordinary cast and writers. Roseanne who? Already forgotten.

The Haunting of Hill House: Season 14
Oct 14, 2018
As a haunted house television series, this is low on scares and edge of the seat suspense. The original Robert Wise blaxk and white film remains the best haunted house film in the entire genre--it's equal parts psychological and genuinely suspenseful horror drama that succeeds because of the brilliant use of camera angles and sound effects/soundtrack without ever revealing an apparition. In the original movie,, Hill House was alive and definitely felt like a malevolent presence. The creepy backstory of the Crane family at the beginning of the movie set a very eerie and foreboding tone for the rest of the film. This Netflix interpretation falls far short of the film and just doesn't engage the viewer or provide enough genuine chills, original or derivative ones, to make this a good television series

A Million Little Things: Season 110
Sep 26, 2018
Powerful and poignant and a million times better than This Is Us which is pure schmalz that is unintentionally funny in its over the top melodrama. I didn't expect to like this but truly do consider it to be extraordinary television. The NY Times televsion critic hated this show and claimed it romanticized and essentially trivialized suicide. I couldn't disagree more. While the story shares some similarity to the movie, The Big Chill, A Million Little Things is far, far better

The Crossing (2018): Season 19
Apr 3, 2018
Handsome and engaging pilot episode, Pacing was great in exposition. The underwater "crossing" scene was spectacular.--both visually beautiful and mysterious. The coastal setting is also gorgeous. Looking forward to more episodes but also know this genre of television rarely survives on broadcast television, regardless of quality.

American Idol: Season 1610
Mar 28, 2018
The latest version of American Idol has retained the best elements of the original while jettisoning the least desirable ones. New judges who are less **** and snarky offer a fresher perspective on the competition. This is a tighter, faster paced workman-like American Idol that doesn't need the whiz bang spinning Jetson;s chairs of the gimmicky competition. This American Idol sets the benchmark in how a singing competition show should be done. Bravo..

Midnight, Texas: Season 11
Jul 26, 2017
Sometimes "bad" is so cringe-worthy that it makes something fun to watch. Midnight TX takes bad to a level that makes it neither fun to watch in a mocking way nor "passable" bad to watch if nothing else is on. Watching this is what real Hell must be like. Looks cheaply made and lazy so why did anyone even bother making this. The snarky talking cat on Sabrina The Teenage Witch was more fun to watch.

Downward Dog: Season 19
May 22, 2017
Charming and low-key sitcom chock full of observational humor and irony....from the dog's perspective. Probably not for anyone who requires their laughter to be full-throated and the humor to be delivered like a stand-up comedian's jokes with telegraphed punchlines or crude humor or the slapstick pie-in-the-face variety. I found myself smiling often at the canine's slyly funny and melancholic remarks.

Marvel's Iron Fist: Season 14
May 9, 2017
Yes, I am an unabashed Marvel fanboy, both movies and television. I thought all of the previous Netflix releases, Daredevil 1 and 2, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were all extraordinary so my expectation for Iron Fist was high. Sadly, the entire 13 episodes went off the rails. While I knew Iron Fist would be the most challenging of the Defender series to imagine, I wasn't prepared for how bad Iron Fist could be since Marvel has heretofore exhibited such incredible high quality control standards across both films and television. I generally applaud the casting here but the writing, both the horrible, unnatural dialogue and a mostly incoherent story were the major downsides for Iron Fist. I am willing to overlook one clunker out of 5 (with 4 extraordinary ones). I have high hopes the Defender series with all the super heroes of Hell's Kitchen will not disappoint. So far, all five of the Marvel Netflix series have amazing and distinct music and opening graphics that tie them together.

Sneaky Pete: Season 16
Jan 23, 2017
Cast is very good portraying mostly fully developed and interesting characters. While the story and directing is more or less efficient and even fun at times, the con man story feels like we've seen this a million time before. It's the type of show you can watch while folding laundry but don't expect to be inspired, only mildly entertained.
Jan 7, 2017
Emerald City: Season 13
Jan 7, 2017
Style over substance can only carry a show so far. This Wizard of Oz Apocalypse Reborn quickly became a slog to watch. Creative team dropped a big 'ol house on this "event" series.
Sep 24, 2016
Notorious: Season 10
Sep 24, 2016
Many new shows are just bad. This one is notoriously bad. The first high profile failure from the new programming management at ABC. How To Get Away With Mucking Up Thursdays. The fall back response from ABC will be that is was only a placeholder until Scandal returns. Well, pick a show that is mediocre at the very least and watchable, not this turkey. What were they thinking!
Sep 21, 2016
Bull (2016): Season 10
Sep 21, 2016
The word "bull" is one of two words I would use to describe this new CBS ridiculous drama. Yikes this is so tedious and so CBS. If you like Dr. Phil and his back story this show might get you off, as the CBS promo teases.
Sep 21, 2016
This Is Us: Season 10
Sep 21, 2016
Loved the comment n the NY Times review that called This Is Us more schmaltzy than a Celine Dion song.. Possibly the worst drama I have seen in years but it should make great "Hate" watching for those looking for some big laughs. Overwrought mess doesn't even begin to describe this turkey.
Sep 21, 2016
Designated Survivor: Season 110
Sep 21, 2016
Intense and taut but not overwrought. Best new drama pilot of the new Fall season by a long shot. Keifer is everyday family man handed the keys to the country.
Sep 19, 2016
The Good Place: Season 10
Sep 19, 2016
Forkin' awful. High concept mess that tries way, way too hard to be absurd and different but the humor went missing. This make You, Me and the Apocalypse seem brilliant. Seriously, what is wrong with the critics falling all over themselves praising this turkey? Must be the Parks and Rec creator lineage. The Good Place is one of the worst shows I have seen. Shockingly bad. Too bad that great talents like Bell and Danson are completely squandered.
Jun 5, 2016
Maya & Marty: Season 11
Jun 5, 2016
Two very talented hosts are squandered in this worst of SNL tribute variety show. Not quite "The Best Time Ever" bad and not quite the worst variety show ever but holy crap this is bad. Not sure why NBC continues to show faith in variety shows since no one under 50 has any interest but the grandma and grandpa crowd might be entertained. Maya and Marty and the cancelled Best Time Ever can make one really, really appreciate The Carol Burnett Show
Mar 9, 2016
Little Big Shots: Season 11
Mar 9, 2016
A weekly reality series talent show of little kids....ugghhh, kill me now. Not even Steve Harvey can save this turkey. It's hokey, wretched and obnoxious but will appeal to parents who put those "My Child Is An Honor Student" bumper stickers on their cars. Don't care.
Mar 5, 2016
The Family (2016): Season 19
Mar 5, 2016
Great cast and compelling writing and story. The mystery set up in the pilot for The Family is highly effective and if sustained in future episodes, might yield to appointment viewing television each week. There are enough potential red herrings here, including the authenticity of Adam as the real missing son, to yield drama thrills and suspense. The Family has some soapy elements in the story for sure but the tone is more restrained and the pace a little less frenetic than How To Get Away With Murder.
Mar 3, 2016
The Real O'Neals: Season 110
Mar 3, 2016
A perfect fit with ABC's other excellent highly dysfunctional but lovable family sitcoms. Great cast and great writing will hopefully keep this family around for many more seasons. The Real O'Neal's is all about acceptance, love and respect within a family and how no family ever measures up to perfection. The show does NOT lampoon Catholicism, just the impossible challenge of a well meaning but overbearing mother hell bent on her family looking like the perfect Catholic family to everyone else.
Feb 26, 2016
Fuller House: Season 10
Feb 26, 2016
It was groan inducing bad when it originally aired, I didn't think it was even possible to make it worse but Netflix did. Not even very worth the effort to hate watch. Might have appealed to the 10 to 12 year set originally who were a lot less sophisticated and didn't have many options on television way back then. How could any of those former young fans find this updated version even remotely passable entertainment, now as adults, is beyond comprehension.
Jan 27, 2016
Lucifer: Season 11
Jan 27, 2016
There is nothing compelling, sophisticated or original about Lucifer. The bored, smarmy Prince of Darkness who's way too sexy for his shirt is like that cliche rich frat boy that can do anything or buy anything and anyone. There is really no good explanation why Lucifer now feels inclined to help people, especially since he still acts like a flaming A-hole. If good story telling is all about a protagonist to root for experiencing all sorts of conflict, Lucifer fails on all levels since there is absolutely no likable characters in this series and no real conflict for the immortal Lucifer, just toying with the humans he encounters. Flashy immortal frat boy Lucifer bored with everything and everyone, helping people on a lark each week isn't the basis for a weekly series. This series can't die fast enough but the young males watching it sadly might keep this hellish hour of television alive on FOX far longer than it deserves.
Jan 21, 2016
DC's Legends of Tomorrow: Season 12
Jan 21, 2016
Super cheesy dialogue. Maybe this will get better moving forward but the lack of one hero to root for is potentially problematic. Time travel is a tricky story line to pull off successfully. Dr Who does it mostly successfully. I'll give this one of 2 more episodes to see if it improves.
Jan 7, 2016
Angel From Hell: Season 10
Jan 7, 2016
Before Angel From Hell, I was neither fan nor detractor of Jane Lynch even though she seems to be constantly playing the same character in every sitcom she has appeared.. After watching the pilot episode, I am most decidedly a detractor of Jane Lynch. Grating, unlikable, annoying and un-watchable are the kindest words I can muster for this holy abomination of a sitcom. Father, bless CBS for they have sinned with this atrocity.
Jan 7, 2016
Shades of Blue: Season 10
Jan 7, 2016
Move over Laura, "The Mysteries of Lopez" is here.. Uninspiring cop procedural that feels way too familiar. Lopez fans might find this appealing but this is more Shades of Dull and Generic for everyone else.
Nov 20, 2015
Marvel's Jessica Jones: Season 110
Nov 20, 2015
Up until now, Marvel's Daredevil was the best comic book inspired television series anywhere. Jessica Jones has moved the bar even higher. It's even darker than Daredevil. Nice to see a female superhero that is flawed and doesn't fly around in some silly skirt and cape. Jessica Jones, like Daredevil feels like a comic book for grown ups and not the silly cartoon-ish costumed super hero shows like The Flash and Supergirl which are fine for tween viewers... Thank you Marvel for raising the bar for comic book inspired shows and delivering programming for adults who love the genre. Ritter is phenomenal as Jessica. Can't wait for the Luke Cage series and 2nd seasons of both Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
Nov 17, 2015
Chicago Med: Season 10
Nov 17, 2015
Should be renamed, "Chicago Meh." CBS' highly mediocre Code Black is superior to the tired medical drama while soapy Greys Anatomy is far more interesting and entertaining than both. This new Chicago iteration from **** Wolf is entirely paint by numbers television all the way but the crossovers with PD and Fire should provide a built in viewer base. All those hunky Chicago cops and firemen will need repair work at the Chicago hospital and TLC from the hot nurses. .
Oct 16, 2015
Truth Be Told (2015): Season 10
Oct 16, 2015
NBC's comedy hits continue to go missing. Score one for NBC consistency. Just sad that the failings of the network are far funnier than anything they air on television. Truth be told, these are not interesting people or worse, not the slightest bit funny. I would not invite them into my living room every Friday night or ever again,
Oct 3, 2015
Dr. Ken: Season 17
Oct 3, 2015
At best there were a couple mildly amusing moments here. Going in, neither a fan nor detractor of Ken Jeong but his character in Dr. Ken wasn't as annoying as I thought it might be. There is definitely more lame and unoriginal humor than clever and fresh but this is NOT the worst new series to debut this new Fall season and NOT the worst sitcom currently on network television. The bar has been pretty low for Friday sitcoms for several seasons and while Dr. Ken doesn't move the bar up, it hasn't moved it down, either. A show to fold laundry to while waiting for Shark Tank to begin.
Oct 1, 2015
Quantico: Season 110
Oct 1, 2015
The best new drama of the season by a long shot. Hits all the right buttons with strong character development, action and intrigue. Sure the story has some elements of implausibility but this is fictional television at it best. Quantico is far better on every level than the wretched Blindspot on NBC which is sets a new benchmark for overwrought drama.
Sep 30, 2015
Grandfathered: Season 14
Sep 30, 2015
I like John Stamos but not necessarily this show. It tries to be so cute and precious that I wanted to gag several times during the 30 minutes. I can see this appealing to some women though who are more susceptible to manipulation by the combination of attractive men and cute babies.
Sep 30, 2015
The Grinder: Season 14
Sep 30, 2015
Grinder was kind **** to watch. It didn't make me laugh once but not as wretchedly bad as I had anticipated. Maybe it's because I am not a fan of Rob Lowe in pretty much anything.
Sep 24, 2015
Limitless (2015): Season 10
Sep 24, 2015
The pilot was better than expected but since my expectations were so, so low this was nothing special, feeling more typical CBS cop drama. I don't feel compelled to return since my patience isn't limitless.
Sep 16, 2015
Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris: Season 10
Sep 16, 2015
"Variety Show" must mean different things to different people. This was just a headache inducing, manic, amorphous reality show that was constructed of used parts from several other cheesy reality shows. Everyone knows Neil Patrick Harris can do almost anything but now we know why we don't want to watch him doing everything ever again. Does exec producer, Harris and his team really think all television viewers have attention deficit disorder? "Worst Waste of Talent Ever?" Or "Worst Waste of My Time Ever"...hard to know since there is so much to choose from on NBC..
Sep 9, 2015
Late Show with Stephen Colbert: Season 13
Sep 9, 2015
I saw nothing original or fresh that Fallon and Kimmel or even Letterman haven't already tried and more successfully. It was a struggle to crack a smile for the majority of the debut show. The largess of the production, staging and the frenetic, over-caffeinated host might want to remind himself this is late night television that is often consumed in bed. Perhaps monologues are not a particular strength of Mr. Colbert so maybe that device should be ditched altogether. The Clooney interview was amazingly dull as was the ensuing painfully unfunny sketch involving Clooney. I would have enjoyed more banter and sarcasm with Jeb Bush. I''ll tune in a few more times since it is unfair to judge anything just based on one episode but this loyal Colbert Report viewer was not at all impressed at this over hyped premiere. The talk show host as shameless advertising shill is commonplace in late night with Kimmel and his sidekick, Guillermo typically eliciting the most laughs. Colbert's attempt was "meh"
Aug 8, 2015
Difficult People: Season 11
Aug 8, 2015
It's exhausting and dull watching the first episode past the first few minutes when the cranky schtick is revealed. No way in hell I could tune in for subsequent episodes of this tired, unoriginal crap. Seen these sort of characters so many times before. What was Amy Poehler thinking?
Aug 7, 2015
Mr. Robinson: Season 11
Aug 7, 2015
Mr. Robinson is hardly the worst sitcom on television currently but is pretty darn awful. Feels like a throwback to the 80's or 90's and the jokes are just about as stale. NBC's lack of comedy successes continues unabated. Good thing Coach is coming to turn their comedy fortunes around :)
Jun 1, 2015
Penny Dreadful: Season 14
Jun 1, 2015
It looks awesome and the acting is top notch but there is something severely lacking in Penny Dreadful such as a coherent story or characters which compel me to care about them or stay interested. Sadly, I don't find it the least bit scary or spooky, either. The beautifully spoken Shakespearean-like dialogue does makes Penny at least a little less dreadful of a series to endure.
May 29, 2015
The Briefcase: Season 10
May 29, 2015
Vile exploitation reality television. CBS might have just aired the most repulsive reality series in history with The Briefcase. So, I get to sit in my comfortable easy chair counting my respectable bank account and admiring all my possessions while I pass judgment on people in financial distress, whether their own doing or as a result of The Great Recession and housing meltdown. No thank you. The entire first episode made me sick. Shame, shame, shame on CBS
Mar 31, 2015
American Crime: Season 110
Mar 31, 2015
Simultaneously beautiful and painful to watch. Dramatic acting doesn't get any better than this. The cinematography and direction is theatrical film caliber great. While the subject of the story telling won't appeal to fans looking for light soapy entertainment like Scandal or Empire, this is one of the most important dramas to appear on either broadcast or cable in many years. Bravo to all those involved and to ABC for airing it in their most valuable time slot (after Scandal).
Mar 20, 2015
iZombie: Season 14
Mar 20, 2015
An undead Veronica Mars reboot with its star zombie even sounding like Kristen Bell in those annoying voice overs. Ironic deadpan dialogue aside, the pilot feels more teen cop procedural than comic book inspired fun. I can see the zombie angle getting stale very fast. A talented cast and Rob Thomas flourishes throughout makes me think this effort should have been a lot better. Feels more like a summer show
Mar 18, 2015
One Big Happy: Season 10
Mar 18, 2015
Kind of mind blowing that Ellen DeGeneres is connected to this big happy mess of a flop. Just horrible. The cast is okay but the jokes and the canned laughter make my skin crawl.
Mar 9, 2015
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Season 11
Mar 9, 2015
Not quite unbearable Kimmy Schmidt but approaching that level of discomfort. The 30 Rock vibe gives it a "been there, done that" feel. The cult background just feels unnecessary and distracting not unlike one of those awkward and unfunny SNL sketches that go on and on and on. Krakowski is reprising her unfunny Jenna character here, too NBC made the right choice in shipping this highly marginal sitcom to online. It would have been ratings challenged on the network like every other NBC sitcom in recent years
Mar 4, 2015
CSI: Cyber: Season 10
Mar 4, 2015
Cheesy and silly tripe that probably seem like cutting edge technology to CBS' core audience which I imagine is still using both Windows 95 and AOL. I keep waiting for CSI:Swansong but no such luck. We will probably be seeing CSI:Cyborg in the distant future. What was Patricia Arquette thinking other than paycheck when she signed on to this turkey. Wretchedly bad but good hate watching comedic potential in between playing games of Pong and Ms Pac-man on the Atari. I never thought I would be saying this but CSI:Cyber makes Scorpion look like Shakespeare.
Mar 2, 2015
The Last Man on Earth: Season 11
Mar 2, 2015
Nothing particularly bad about Will Forte's man-child performance but nothing particularly attractive about it either. The material here plays out like some awkwardly unfunny SNL sketch that doesn't know how or when to end. While critics have lauded this effort as fresh and original television, neither fresh nor original guarantee good or compelling television which is unfortunately the case here. Last Man On Earth obviously owes some amount of gratitude to the film Castaway but that excellent film was 120 minutes or so in length from beginning to end. I am absolutely dumbfounded that any viewers could sit through an hour of this show. If these same viewers return to watch next week, I am afraid civilization is **** least the future of comedy on network television is.
Mar 2, 2015
Secrets and Lies: Season 19
Mar 2, 2015
An effective murder mystery with some compelling characters. It's hard not to get pulled in and feel at least some empathy with Phillipe's character whose life is falling apart and whose neighbors assume is guilty until proven innocent. The paternal ties to the dead child and the extramarital affair with the child's mother add to the complexity of the crime in this attractive suburban neighborhood. Both the high quality exterior and interior shots seem more like a feature film than a television series. There is nothing particularly original here in the story but Lewis' interpretation of the unrelenting detective who is both annoying and fascinating to watch in action, along with Phillipe's restrained performance as the alleged victim suspected of killing the child, make this two more reasons to watch Secrets and Lies
Feb 12, 2015
The Slap (2015): Season 10
Feb 12, 2015
I admit I was intrigued when I read the description of this show. It really did sound like something very different from the mostly safe and bland stuff on broadcast television and the actors were all very good. Watching this show was pure torture, however. I can't honestly say it is the worst thing I have ever seen on television but it is definitely in the bottom 5, only redeemed by the actors attached to it. Unfortunately, good actors and an interesting sounding premise can't overcome pretentiously bad execution. I would have to be slapped unconscious to watch any more episodes. Even hate watching and hate tweeting is fun for only so long which I proved by watching Peter Pan Live once and only once. I wonder if someone threatened to slap NBC president, Bob Greenblatt if he didn't air this drivel? .
Jan 9, 2015
Empire (2015): Season 12
Jan 9, 2015
No one does nighttime soaps better than ABC, especially anything attached to Shondaland.. Empire feels more like a throwback to Dynasty and the original Dallas with cliched characters and story, at least in its pilot episode. The show need more than bling to make it watchable
Jan 7, 2015
Marvel's Agent Carter: Season 19
Jan 7, 2015
An amazingly well done comic book inspired series based on the premiere episodes. Who knew you would have to go back to the 1940's to reinvigorate comics on television. Love the spy genre and the copious action. It's also nice to have a strong female protagonist for a change. Great writing, top notch production values and great acting. I hope Agent Carter is picked up as a regular series. Both Agent Carter and Agents of SHIELD are the two best comic inspired series on television.
Jan 4, 2015
Galavant: Season 19
Jan 4, 2015
Tickled my funny bone big time. Silly, goofy and just a little bawdy. The most original and creative television program in recent memory. "Maybe You're Not The Worst Thing Ever" is my all time favorite new song--I want to sing it to so many peeps.
Dec 21, 2014
The Librarians (2014): Season 13
Dec 21, 2014
It's not very good. Not bad enough to hate watch and certainly not good enough to enjoy. Innocuous drivel but the airwaves are chock full of the same
