The reason why this movie gets a bad rep is a gatekeeping nostalgia for the original, nothing else. The humour of this is superior, the characters are very likeable, storyline is absolutely on par… It’s a funny film. Anyone saying otherwise is just bitter about time passing.

Mediocre light non-committal comedy. Few good and funny moments. There is absolutely no "growing up" of characters, no changes, so it's not clear why all this was conceived at all.

Watched this with my kids, and was stunned by the vulgarity of the whole thing, but all 3 of us absolutely laughed our asses off whilst hiding with embarrassment as things go horribly wrong or are just excruciating in every scene. The critics have a proper stick up their arses about this - anyone who doesn’t find this really funny (albeit absolutely dreadful) has had a sense of humour bypass. I laughed so much it was like I’d turned on a faucet (ahem).

Some dumb jokes but over all it was really funny. I couldn't stop laughing most of the time.

I know most people don`t agree with me, but I think this is tied with Christmas Vacation for the best one of the series. The only real complaint I have for this movie is its inappropriateness. I counted over 65 swear words said in this movie. And 1/3 of them was from the KIDS. Overall, I`d rate this a 8.9/10 Metascore: 34 (What?) Myscore: 89

Fun faithful follow up to the originals. Really skeptical at first but ended up laughing my way through it. It's full of juvenile humor but it all just works. I hope they do a sequel.

Vacation is a standard I’m eating too much food watching a random Netflix film. It’s funny and made me laugh, some good cameos but it’s not anything ground breaking either... and that’s okay I just wanna get fat and laugh

Funny movie with a good cast. I think they did a good job doing a sequel instead of a remake.

This movie is f***ing terrible. I don’t get the positive user score, hell even the critic score is still too high. This is the second worst movie I have seen in my life, it was so bad that me and my family decided to turn it off in the first half hour. Yeah, it’s that bad. There is a pottymouth 10 year old kid that repeatedly says the f bomb and there is a cringeworthy college puking scene, let that set the tone for you. This movie is just so unfunny and I seen a lot of bad comedies, but be warned and just never ever seek out this one, it’s horrible.

Never expected to laugh as much as I did. The jokes are stupid and dirty, but there is no denying that they are hilarious. This movie also has some really strong characters with great actors to portray them. But the movie’s story is really all over the place and the same as the original. But still a solid film.

When the family vacation turns into a nightmare! Having not seen any previous films in this series, I had nothing to compare with it and to blame for. Though I have seen many similar films, but it was not as bad as they say. In this kind of theme, the basic storyline always remains same, the remaining parts like the characters, locations and the diversions in the story developments are the key. I think they did that decently, the two new directors who also penned the screenplay. Well, this is the story of the Griswold family of a couple and their two teen sons. After realising his family is spiritless with the normal life, the husband surprises his wife and the children to go a vacation. The trip is supposed to have fun, but they find hard to come along in a single mood as a family. Meanwhile, their journey begins to face many hurdles, though they are not giving up. So how memorable their adventure becomes is what unfolds in the remaining section. The cast was good. Both, Ed Helms and Chritina Applegate was impressive, though the film is not laudable. Not all the jokes, but some of them were really cool and most of them were adult stuffs. Yep, this is an R rating film, not a family film, despite the impression you get from its posters. So for the grown ups, this is not a bad film to give a try. I can't suggest or reject on the merit of its previous installments, because I've already given the reason. People like me can definitely have a good time with it. 6.5/10

This was crazy. The best dramatic comedy ever. Every scene is unforgettable. Every scene is funny. Literally funny. I think I almost laughed from the beginning until the end. There are a lot of awful experiences they had in the movie that make laugh and laugh and laugh but at the end, you'll realize that this is a perfect family story that every member of a family must watch. The lesson that I've learned? is this "We may have war between our Father or Mother or our children or brother/sister but at the end of the day, billions of people in this world cannot replace them. No one can. We need to live them with love, respect and fun at the same time." Enjoy watching!

I quite enjoyed the movie. Of course it isn't a classic or highly memorable after a few months, but it had many fun moments, it wasn't too tacky or had too many slapstick stuff, plus actors in there were funny too. Of course it is kinda a reboot of Lampoon's Vacation and not as good I guess, but it's not like it would be a really bad movie or anything. Many of my friends liked it and if you want to watch a comedy, this is quite a good one compared to others that came out in 2015.

I'm not sure why someone decided that it was necessary to remake a comedy classic in such a crude and rude manner. Despite the valiant efforts of the talented cast, this movie is not very funny. Let's hope that they don't decide to make a series of remakes based on the originals.

Definitely not as good as We' re the Millers for sure! It was long, and sometimes boring, but the laughs were pretty funny. I guess it was just because I expected too much. Overall, it was a bit disappointing but still watch it if you want some solid laughs.

Hilarious film that is not to be taken seriously or compared to old ones. Belly laugh for most of the film. Great if you don't want to concentrate on plot and just relax.

I had no idea about the original series, but I liked this one a lot. The jokes are sometimes gross, but hillarious if you accept this kind of humor. One of the best comedies seen recently.

If you like unfunny **** jokes and shock humor that makes your stomach churn more than actually laugh, this is the film for you. Anything good that happens in this film is ALWAYS countered by something bad, and you lose all optimism for the characters (who you don't give a **** about anyway.) This movie is atrocious, I'd rather give myself a vasectomy with a pair of safety scissors as opposed to watching this again.

Thought it was a very funny movie. The critics seem to beat it up a bit but I have found that most of the movies the critics like I (and most others) don't... Is it "Cant stop laughing funny like the Hangover or 40 year old virgin the first time I saw them? Not even close... but well worth seeing for sure!

Too bad. They forgot the fun cousin Eddie. Jokes about very serious subjects did not please me. I smiled a few times . Only five times throughout the film. The 1983 original is infinitely superior.

This is a funny movie. It's well paced and bizarrely weird. The cast is great. The humour is gross and the language sometimes raw but that's comedy. People go on comparing this film to the National Lampoon one as if that matters. I had a good laugh.

Vacation is attempting to bring back the classic series but sadly fails and just ends up feeling awkward and unfunny. The humor is very dull and at times not funny at all. There are a few moments of hope for Vacation at times but most are from characters not part of the main cast and are just cameos. Vacation does have a decent cast with Ed Helms and Christina Applegate but apparently can't help this movie. If your looking for something to get a few cheap laughs out of I'm sure there is something better then this but if not.....well I guess.

Let's be honest, taking a vacation with your family ****. Overblown expectations and the irritating trip to the destination usually lead to their downfall. The original Vacation did a good job of capturing the worst aspects on them and presented them in a humorous manner. Well the series is back in this pseudo-reboot, and the results are hilarious. You have to be willing to deal with vulgar humor and gross out gags, but it's certainly no harder to watch than the average R-rated comedy. Especially since the gags come at a near-constant rate and almost always land gracefully. The pacing is a little weird, but I found myself laughing constantly throughout. The great thing is the movie does a good job of capturing family issues everyone has. Even if they are presented in a more over-the-top fashion. The bond of family is actually pretty strong here, even if it's harder to pick up on it among all of the jokes. There's some heart to be found. The movie has some really great cameos. Be they the exciting return of character from the original, or just more brief ones like Charlie Day and Norman Reedus, it's pretty cool to see their inclusions in more one-off jokes. A particular standout is Chris Hemsworth. With some great nods to the original and plenty of it's own unique ideas, 2015's Vacation proves to be a successful revival of the series. Well, provided you enjoy R-rated humor that is. If you do then be prepared for a lot of laughs. It's a great, modern take on the classic. While I wouldn't recommend going into it expecting it to be exactly like the original, it hits some of the same ideas in new ways. Those who followed the series and can deal with more modern R-rated humor can still be entertained. I, for one, enjoyed almost every bit of it, and wouldn't mind traveling with the new generation of Griswolds again.

How can a movie about a family be so misogynistic? Utterly disappointed with the 6th grade humor and jokes that no person that anyone in the audience should laugh at. Cultural appropriation? Check. Horrible (I mean soooo bad) jokes? Check. Stereotypes to the **** brim? Check! LAUGHING AT PEOPLE'S DEATH AND SUFFERING? You're out. Goodbye, Vacation.

Either I lost my sense of humor, or this movie makes Dumb And Dumber To seem like the funniest movie of the year. First of all, all the characters involved in this **** movie are dumbasses and the same dumbasses you see on either tv or some other **** movie. Second, this movie tries so hard to hit you right in the funny bone which I think it missed me. I don't even know what to say about Ed Helms playing the worst character in his career. And last but not least, being an **** got way too boring, I'm talking about the little **** in this movie. I feel like I have said too much and I'm going to be honest here. This movie gives nothing new, the same humor you see in other **** movies, it doesn't give anything interesting at all, and the characters are easy to hate. Not too happy to see some people saying that this is the "funniest movie ever".

A needless reboot? Absolutely but it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Very typical and predictable but still a good amount of laughs. I liked it enough to recommend renting it but that's about it. It's a decent comedy but nothing worth praising.

I admit the trailer for this film got me excited. Unfortunately the movie itself is awful. Except for the characters this film has no real connection in tone or laughs to any of the original Vacation films. Just a terrible effort. D

I did not see the original Vacation movies but I was hoping that this movie would persuade me to check out the other films, sadly the Vacation remake does not do that. The film is very robotic in its delivery and there is very little passion to this project at all. The attempts at comedy usually fail and it relies far too much on gross out humour. I like Ed Helms and Christina Applegate in most roles and I would say that this films failure is not their fault but Ed Helms does not have the charisma to lead this film. Chevy Chase is one of the most well respected comedy stars of all time and Helms just cannot fill his shoes. I really can't see many people enjoying this movie even if you are a fan of the original.

The movie is lazy, disgusting, and not funny at times but the characters do their parts the best they can for what they're given. The Chris Hemsworth scenes where funny and I have no idea what happened to Chevy Chase. He needs to be seen by a doctor.

Vacation is all the raunchy humor and laughs that comes with such a title, perhaps a little bit more "adult" then it's grandparents, Vacation if a fun, filthy, heart warming story of a family simply trying to keep it together. Reminds me a lot of my own family and the kind of dumb, stupid stuff we had to suffer through. I don't consider this a reboot, this is a sequel to a film. It makes the clearly apparent via characters and story line. Young Rusty is now a man with his own family and his own problems and he attempts to revive his family through a family vacation to the place he so fondly remembers, It may not be a National Lampoons film, but it's still great on it's own merits. All the haters are just turds with no lives and looking for something to complain about. Out of all the movies that have been shown in 2015, this one does not deserve the hate it gets.

This movie is stupid but that's kinda the point. It elicited more eyerolls than belly laughs. You can see that they had a decent script. This is only evident in the bits with the kids because you don't have the "comedian" chewing and spitting scenery. In those moments without the movie's "star," there is a funny film with a great deal of heart. Unfortunately, that bit is only about 20 minutes of the finished product.

Expect little, gain a lot... kinda. The original Vacation movies were a huge part of my youth. Was very sceptical about a reboot/follow up/studio rehash and I'm not a huge fan of Ed Helms. However, watching this, (initially through my fingers expecting a cringe-fest) I actually saw past the lack of Griswaldy-ness (yep) and genuinely liked the film as a standalone comedy. Christina Applegate is excellent, the two children are mostly funny and not slightly annoying and Chris Hemsworth's cameo is simply hilarious. It's only really Ed Helms who doesn't get my vote as Rusty but on the whole, it's a decent comedy with a few laugh out loud moments. If you take off your 'Fan Of The Originals' hat and see through the thin plot, lack of Griswaldy-Ness (again), OTT toilet humour and the use of too much swearing then you can expect to gain an hour and a half's worth of serviceable entertainment. And lastly, the nods to the original films are well spaced although the movie does depend on them to remind you this is the Griswalds we are supposed to be watching. And it's still kinda sad to see Chevy looking so old and being shoehorned in for the authenticity of the title, but, it made me feel nostalgic seeing him in this so I guess it's a good send off for his character. Now, back to the original films, where's my Wally World cap?

Not only was the script unbelievable, but it was gross and boring. None of the characters were interesting, and it doesn't live up to the classic movies and never should have been made. The cameos actually come off as insulting being in a movie as horrible as this one.

There was one scene where a laughed my ass off and there were a few sweet scenes, but vacation is ultimately in the layer of comedies that are here for a while then forgotten with poor plot points and scenes that make you exclaim 'What? That would never happen'. Oh, and the little brother in this movie? Go f*ck yourself, one of the most annoying characters in cinema history.l

For such a great cast, this movie was beyond disappointing. I do not mind dirty jokes but don't drag them and make them unnecessarily stale. I feel like the only good part in the whole movie was when they went to meet Chevy Chase. And he was not even on for 10 minutes.

Whilst I laughed a great deal throughout, this film doesn't have enough heart to make you care about the characters. The charm of the original films lay in the fact that you were ultimately sympathetic to the Griswald's in their naive attempts to bond, making this more of a parody rather than a reboot. The tropes are worn, the dialogue is peppered with an over abundance of expletives that have no purpose, the storyline is predictable, and the humour is solid but nothing new, relying heavily on well-worn ideas - the requisite mix of toilet humour, slapstick, sexism and obligatory 80's style gratuitous nudity get laughs in the moment, but nothing particularly memorable. 5.22/10

This film is very funny indeed. I loved it from start to finish. The humour comes thick and fast and in places, the humour is near the knuckle. I'm guessing the bad reviews are coming from the easily offended. I'm a fan of the original series and although this one stands well on its own, it also pays good homage to the original.
