The reason why this movie gets a bad rep is a gatekeeping nostalgia for the original, nothing else. The humour of this is superior, the characters are very likeable, storyline is absolutely on par… It’s a funny film. Anyone saying otherwise is just bitter about time passing.

This is a story that didn’t need to be told. “Story” is an overstatement though, it’s mostly just a sequence of disjointed events in chronological order. It’s the definition of melodrama. No conflict, no hurdles, everything is just being blown out of proportion. Scenes (and especially dialogues) go on WAY TOO LONG. Poor effort altogether. Usyk, Rutten, and Bader were good though, gave the film some realism.

I gave it 3 points because of Jack Black and the initial idea, but everything else apart from that is an epic fail. I find it incredibly hard to believe that this is the work of the same Farrelly brothers who gave us Something About Mary and Heartbreak Kid…. Jesus Christ…!

We learn an important lesson from this narcissistic masterpiece: no matter how comfortable one’s life is, they will find a reason to complain. This is the dull story of a family I tried (and failed) to care about. Seeing it told must be a blissful ride for everyone involved, but not for the general audience. I give it two points for Glenn Close and Amy Adams, but to cast them into this was a lie in itself. The self-absorbed hero is played by a literal leg of ham. It’s extremely off-putting and out of place.

Lining up the most repelling cast within the first 5 minutes is a commendable feat. If you have a beating heart and a functioning brain, you won’t make it any further. I know I didn’t. This reminds me of “American Hustle”… My missus picked that when we went to the cinema, I had no intention of Seeing it. In that case I came from “I ain’t watching this!” to it being one of my all-time favourites. This here is the polar opposite. The movie convinces you within 10 minutes, that nobody involved in making it have a single sh—t. GOD…!

I have to give it a 10 because it’s LITERALLY impossible to do a video game movie adaptation better than this. It’s impeccable for what it is. I dunno what those who criticise the story expected. It’s not ‘The Brothers Karamazov’, itsa Mario!

This is the worst movie that I watched to the end, and I only did it because I was with my 7 year old son. There was nobody else in the cinema, we had the screen for ourselves. The film is absolutely pointless. I don’t understand people who score the visuals, the bare minimum is that a movie looks good enough. This is just that. Bare minimum. I gave it 1 because it takes some minutes till you realise that it’s a waste of time.

Lesser minds rated this as “typical Adam Sandler movie” despite the fact that he had nothing to do with it besides starring. The acting from the entire cast throughout is exceptional! Mostly amateur actors in supporting roles, and they make all the difference. Brilliantly cast, brilliantly directed, acted, written. Anything BUT a topical Adam Sandler movie.

Uncompromising entertainment. I can’t even remember when I saw a movie or a show last time, where I wasn’t also given an uncomfortable amount of social studies lecture. Maverick is a breath of fresh air in a time when audiences are not allowed to just switch off from the depressing reality that is life, and immerse themselves in an exciting story. This movie is delivers flawlessly what it promises, what you’d expect. Plainly speaking, its a perfect movie for what it is.
