The film aims to scale things up with bigger stakes, a broader canvas and more immediate danger. But in doing so, it loses sight of what made this version of the character work.

Lots of hate for this film which was designed as a streaming movie. At least I get a bang for my buck instead of having to see a 'streaming movie' on theather (Disney..cough, cough). It's actually punch above its weight quite a bit thanks to Krasinski himself. Hey, if you want to have a stand alone movie, give a good protagonist and conflict that's worth the audience time. At least this flick did that. It also made me curious for the long running (yet finished) series. I might binge that in the weekend.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026) Messy Beginning, Full of Cliches and Forgettable (12,508 – 13 Jun 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) The ex-spy and now working in Wall Street Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) and his friend and CIA Vice-Director James Greer (Wendell Pierce) have an encounter and Greer asks him to collect a package from Nigel Cooke (Douglas Hodge) in Dubai with his former colleague Mike November (Michael Kelly). Ryan meets Cooke, who tells that Greer needs help, but is killed by a sniper. MI-6 agent Emma Marlow (Sienna Miller) takes Ryan and November into custody. The rogue agent Liam Crown (Max Beesley) tells Greer that he will kill Ryan if he does not return what Cooke gave to him. Ryan learns that Greer and Cooke created the black ops Project Starling and Crown worked with him after the 9/11 and later he shut it down. However, Crown wants to resurrect it and now they need to stop him. “Jack Ryan: Ghost War” (2026) is a movie with messy beginning, full of cliches and forgettable following the style of “Mission Impossible”. It all makes one wonder why any of the original team returned for a sequel that not only undoes some of the far more impactful emotional beats of the final season but also leaves audiences in limbo about whether they even want to see Jack Ryan suit up for another disaster to solve.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War [editor’s note: the full title of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is way too long to keep repeating] is a straightforward spy movie without excitement or intrigue, like a training exercise to keep Krasinski busy. Even the franchise’s main distinguishing factor, its rah-rah patriotism, is no match for a few moments of product placement from the Saudi tourism board.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit was a decent watch. While I don’t fully remember the previous films in the franchise, and some details felt a little fuzzy, the movie still managed to capture the core essence of a solid action **** cast featured several familiar faces, which added to the film’s appeal and helped maintain engagement **** film itself was action-packed, delivering enough suspense, intensity, and fast-paced sequences to keep the momentum going. While it may not be the most memorable entry in the genre, it remains an entertaining watch for fans of action and espionage films.Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone looking for an easy, entertaining thriller.

I'm not sure what I expected with Krasinski as screenwriter but it was supposed to be better than whatever-the-hell this was. Ghost War is the definition of bad screenwriting. It's one cliche after another. A solid C or D effort on creating an original and believable story. Unfortunately all we got was a first draft effort. Clancy is doing somersaults in his grave. Whomever greenlit this abomination over at Amazon, to go to production, needs to be terminated.

John Krasinski is back in the title role as a former CIA operative who’s drawn back into the world of spy antics and treachery. The team heads to London, then Dubai, which showcases the city’s cool architecture. Sadly, that’s the film’s best asset. Otherwise, it’s much like my review of the series (my review) with “more intrigue and espionage than big staged action sequences.” If you can dredge thru the continual dialogue scenes, there is one car chase which upends a few trash cans and lots of shooting. What the film lacks is any spectacular staging or even mildly exciting action. I’d pronounce this a disappointment, but given the 2/5 star rating of the original series, I’m not surprised that this did worse.

Went in with low expectations, but wow, this is so much worse. Not just appalling nonsense, badly written, with all-round ham-fisted acting of unlikeable characters; and I am a fan of John K and Sienna M! But I am afraid it is much worse: Empty calories laced with propaganda poison; toxic slop for the sheep.
