The Stoning of Soraya M. goes well beyond its angry didacticism and its specific indictment of men's oppression of women to achieve the impact of a Greek tragedy through its masterful grasp of suspense and group psychology, and some superb acting.

A timely story, given the political upheaval in Iran, it is emotionally explosive. It also is profoundly compelling.

I found this movie emotionally extremely powerful in the sense that although I am quite a stoic person, I could feel the fear Soraya and her Aunt were going through and the humiliation Soraya was subjected to. I cannot imagine what the two ladies must have gone through in real life. Another very important point made by the movie is that the ancient way of dispensing justice has no place in modern times because human beings are imperfect and can manipulate such simplistic and biased laws. It may be a simple and for some even slow movie but it's impact is profound on people who believe that justice must be done. They will enjoy it, love it and loath it at the same time. Loathe it for such great injustice done to Soraya..

The Stoning of Soraya M. was as real today as it have been for centuries. Women in foreign countries can be lied upon very easily as she was in this movie and stoned to death. This depiction broke my heart and the struggle continues. Stoning is wrong and no one deserves this kind of treatment. Her stoning wasn't based off facts but lies and her husband wanted her dead. Watch this movie if you can but if you cannot stand to see something that is real don't watch it because this is a real life story and such crimes still exist today.

Based on a French true-crime best seller, this gory, ham-fisted hybrid of social-issue picture and horror film exerts a crude but undeniable power.

The film oddly mirrors "The Passion of the Christ," as a show trial leads inexorably toward an almost sadistically filmed public execution (it doesn't hurt that Jim Caviezel plays the reporter). Like that movie, it gets its point across with all the subtlety, sorry to say, of a rock upside the head.

It also gives another black eye to Iranian fundamentalists. It is most unfortunate, then, that the film isn't better.

Thoroughly blurs the line between high-minded outrage and lurid torture-porn.
20
A classic case of preaching to the choir, since it’s doubtful the film will reach many of the minds that need changing.

It is riveting, moving and extremely powerful. This is a movie you need to see. The Stoning of Soraya M. is packed with extremely moving and powerful story, with truthful acting and graphic violence that has a reason to be there, because if you cut off some of the violence, if you didn't see it happen, you will say it never happened. It is a movie with a real hero, because think about how many heroes we have now, not many. The story is amazing, the directing is wise and the movie overall is one of a kind.

The Stoning of Soraya M….A tool of religion for the lust…watching is must!
Recently watched this irani movie directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh . A journalist is passing through an Iranian village where he finds that his car needs a repair and without it he can’t go any farther. A local woman makes an unsuccessful attempt to approach him but she manages to invite him in her house and shares how Soraya was stoned to death and how the people of this village are so heartless. The journalist records all her say while his car is being repaired. Ali, husband of Soraya is frustrated with her and he wants to marry a 14 years old girl of a wealthy citizen but then he has to share his income to his first wife and their children for livelihood and he simply can’t afford it. So he makes a plan with the local Mulla and as a result Soraya dies of stoning (in urdu it is known as ‘Sangsari’) at the end. Director has succeeded to show the hypocrisy of the world of men, male domination, how Ali turns his sons against their mother and his father-in-law against his own daughter, virtual brutality and use the religion as a tool to meet their physical demands and urges. A revolutionary movement can also be felt from the female characters. This is the best irani movie I had ever seen. It is all in nutshell but there is vast scope to write on this movie since it contains multi effectual events. Despite the perfection of this film a mistake is pinching me (I may be wrong also) and this can be caught by a keen watcher but overall it is a must watch movie.

Definitely a must watch, everything in this movie made me mesmerized and into seeing what will happen next, although the ending is spoiled from the title but it is still one of the greatest I have ever experienced.

This movie is filled with inaccuracies and stereotypes, it's hugely dramatized in every way and I'm getting sick of these american "based on a true story" movies.

I gave up watching the movie after half an hour. It is probably a good movie, but the editing is the work of a hopeless amateur. The cutting between camera angles and pov´s are faster than a Skrillex video, which is confusing and frustrating when the scene is a supposed to be slow, painful and full of dispair. Better editing could have saved this movie.
