The Out-Laws may not be for everyone, but two things are for sure: DeVine has the potential to be a major comedy star and Brosnan needs more roles where he doesn’t have to play serious. The rest is a welcome distraction for a Friday night at home.

DeVine gets away with a barn-door broadness that, nodding to the Jerry Lewis tendency, chimes with a film that works a surprising amount of explicit violence into its hectic slapstick.

I don't understand why so many people think this movie is bad. It's a masterpiece. The plot is symbolic and talks about finding the meaning of life in a world oppressed by a fascist and capitalist political system. The acting was one of the best in decades and the actors were clearly devoted to their characters. Stunning production design, cinematography, editing and score, which build a very emotional and empathetic atmosphere. I hope this can get recognized at the Oscars and even win best picture, that would be a relief after the disastrous, woke, recent wins such as The Godfather or Parasite. My second favourite movie of all time, right behind Green Book.

Ok, it's not Andrew Bergman's masterful movie, The In-laws, but I don't know why it's been crucified. I liked it!

Like so much of The Out-Laws, Brosnan and Barkin are both a little better than they need to be, and also a lot better than their material demands.

DeVine is entertaining enough, and the gag of watching Bronson and Barkin playing cool criminals can intrigue just about anyone. For all its flaws, The Out-Laws will win over those who flock to Happy Madison’s movies time after time, even if you'll promptly forget what you have watched.

Putting a bona-fide imbecile at the center of all this leads, inevitably, to far-too-predictable situations in which he will do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing, sob uncontrollably, and generate no sympathy at all.

A bit of action mayhem at the midway mark plays. Brosnan and Barkin are as amusing as the script allows them to be and Devine works himself up to “maybe I don’t need to gouge my eyes/ears out every time he appears.”

Adam Devine is one of today's most popular comic actors and this movie is perfectly susited to his skills. He plays a bank manager who's about the get married. The weekend of their wedding, the bride's parents show up (Pierce Brosnan & Ellen Barkin). Meanwhile, his bank gets robbed and he's convinced it was them. The premise promises fun interactions and it delivers. Not only is Devine continuously amusing, but he's surrounded by other enjoyable characters (Brosnan is relishing being a gruff guy). Making it even more enjoyable is the smart script and Tyler Spindel's direction, esp. his way with physical bits. There's nothing new about the writing, acting or direction, but it's still a good old-fashioned comedy that's continually funny.

The Out-Laws is a classic comedy from Netflix. The Out-Laws is a light movie for one viewing in the evening. Which you will forget the next day. A banal plot, typical characters and primitive humor. Whoever likes this genre is watching. The cast is not bad. The whole movie is sur and it's impossible to take it seriously, but it looks in one breath. And it doesn't cause rejection like the latest Netflix comedies. But The Out-Laws is a terrible action movie, action scenes are staged primitively and do not surprise in any way. For the whole film, which lasts 1.5 hours, there is only one interesting action scene - a chase from the bank on a truck. And it turns out that The Out-Laws is a bad movie as a comedy - the viewer does not laugh often, although the actors try. But also as an action movie, The Out-Laws does not tolerate criticism. A mere film, but against the background of the latest Netflix comedies, at least it does not cause rejection.

The Outlaws A formulaic but annoyingly funny movie. Adam Devine leads this action comedy with his usual comedic capabilities of being very expressive, but sometimes it can get too much or over-exaggerated. Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin are adequate in their supporting roles. The best part of the movie was Poorna Jagannathan. I found myself eager for new scenes featuring her. Coming off the heels of Never Have I Ever, this is a new direction for the actress, and this should definitely help her subvert typecasting. The plot has nothing new to offer, and when the climax was reached, I was expecting more albeit happy that it was over. There's also no chemistry between the leads, Adam Devine and Nina Dobrev, and this hurts the bland plot even more. 5/10

The Out-Laws assembles a good cast but the humour is very cringe as it tries to be dazzling as I just felt it had been more improvised.
