This film stands comfortably alongside its ancestors, a perfect detour in a time when it’s most needed and a wonderful experience overall.

It’s not consistently hilarious but it is consistently imaginative, sometimes even breathtaking.

The Day the Earth Blew Up is funny, visually inventive and, unlike Warner Brothers Discovery, honors the legacy of the Looney Tunes cartoons. The movie is a testament to what hand-drawn animation can achieve when in the right hands. Although 2025 is only three months old, this movie is already the front-runner for comedy of the year. Highly Recommended. detroitcineaste

Those who have grown up with the iconic Looney Tunes characters will be more than pleased. The plot, which references the fictional films of the 50's, sticks to the spirit and humour of the classic material that every good fan knows.

Essentially, for all its sci-fi/disaster/zombie movie trimmings, at its heart the film is a mismatched buddy movie that celebrates the bond from birth between Porky and Daffy.

The film’s open affection for the Looney Tunes franchise has a restorative quality.

The Day the Earth Blew Up isn’t arguing for the past at the expense of the future, it’s simply trying to put a modern spin on a classic formula in a way that makes you wonder why we ever left it behind.

The movie’s energy doesn’t pay off in dividends of real pleasure. Anarchy has never been so mere as it is ultimately rendered here.

I’m not sure I’ve ever before come across an original feature with a screenplay credited to 11 writers (not to mention four “story consultants”), and yet nobody in this mirth brigade brought any operational comedy ammunition.

Honestly my expectations for this one were not high, but to my delight, I loved it. It perfectly captured the Looney Tunes spirit in a modern way, and I hope will serve as an effective relaunch for this classic brand. I wasn't sure about a Bugs-less Looney Tunes movie, but Porky and Daffy were a great combination, along with Petunia, and this hopefully opens up the wide world of Looney Tunes characters for a new generation.

The Day the Earth Blew Up is a nostalgic return to form for Warner Bros., delivering a Looney Tunes adventure that feels both familiar and slightly daring. While it's not essential viewing, it’s a relaxing watch that offers enough fun to recommend—especially for longtime fans and a new generation of kids getting to know these iconic characters. At the heart of the film are Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, and their dynamic is the real charm here. As friends, they stumble through an alien invasion plotline that initially feels predictable, but gradually surprises with clever choices and well-timed turns. Their chemistry deepens as the film progresses, making you root for them not just for laughs, but emotionally too. Daffy Duck, unsurprisingly, steals the show. His over-the-top antics, expressive animation, and classic chaos bring some of the loudest laughs. The slapstick humor doesn’t feel dated—instead, it’s layered nicely into a sci-fi setting that grows more interesting as the story unfolds. The film resists being a one-note parody, instead building its world with just enough care to keep adults engaged while the kids laugh at the antics. The animation sticks to a classic look, which works well for a film so rooted in legacy. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel visually, and that’s part of its charm. You’re here for the gags, the timing, and the chaos—not cutting-edge visuals. Sum up - This isn’t a reinvention of Looney Tunes, nor is it trying to be. It’s a tribute, a comfort watch, and a little bit of a surprise once you settle in. More than anything, it does justice to the legacy. And if this is the start of more Looney Tunes adventures on the big screen, we’re off to a solid start.

Forming an opinion is tricky. I can only acknowledge the director’s love for the Looney Tunes—it clearly shows in this film, which is incredibly respectful of the original spirit. And I also recognize that, in a way, it’s quite a feat: it’s the only 2D animated film we’ll see in all of 2025. Unfortunately, the story just isn’t compelling enough and feels overly stretched. It’s like a 45-minute TV special that was unnecessarily doubled in length. You can’t really tell if it’s meant for kids or nostalgic adults—it doesn’t fully check either box. It’s fun at first, but you quickly lose interest and forget about it as soon as it ends.

I enjoyed most of the Porky and Daffy antics. But this movie's plot is stretched way beyond its limits to fit the runtime of a film

I am all for hand drawn animation returning to theaters but what we have here is a straight to cartoon network special that could have easily been released 20 years ago on tv and no one would think anything about it. The animation is slick and glossy and I wish other classic animations like adventure time and others would get this sort of big budget treatment. That being said the content of this movie is by the numbers recycled children’s humor that seems like an imitation or a watered down imitation of “this is what’s funny right.” It seems to have nothing relevant to say whatsoever and the same jokes we’ve seen 1,000 times over. Even by Looney Toons standards this movie is tame and boring. I’m happy to see animation back in theaters but it deserves better than this. Just feels kind of empty and irrelevant.
