The pleasure of this movie is watching some fragile rich entitled Americans step out of their comfort zone and endure interacting with people who are not like them. The horror twist is that all people that these Americans have avoided their whole lives, which amounts to the majority of the world population, would gladly see them dead. The American actors were less convincingly performed but more monstrous in characterisation than the British villains. I rooted for the villains as their bullying of the entitled guests ramped up. It plays out like an awkward dinner party where the guests do not share the hosts values and have different lived experiences to the host. It ends with the reassuring notion that people who see the world differently to you, who do things slightly differently, are actually the most terrible people you could possibly imagine. Heartwarming fun.

Greetings from Lithuania. "Speak No Evil" (2024) is tense and well made drama / thriller. I won't spoil the plot details for the plot itself because it one of those movies that are best experienced when knowing nothing to little of what it is about. James McAvoy was totally amazing in this movie - he is literally can be a sole reason to watch it in a first place. He owns every scene he is in, has an undisputed presence on screen and its a raw performance. Others were good. Cinematography is another thing worth mentioning, as this movie looked gorgeous - the photography was stunning. Also at its running time 1 h 50 min i was almost never bored so kudos to good directing and solid pacing. Overall, while not a great film by any means, "Speak No Evil" delivers good and its a tense and involving story. Recommended.

Still, it doesn’t escape some Blumhouse tendencies: controlled violence, polished aesthetics, and twists aimed more at surprise than coherence. That said, the discomfort is real, and that’s essential in this genre.Where it stumbles is in the final act. The climax, which should have been explosive, falls short, shifting toward “action thriller” rather than existential horror. It also seems afraid to push too far — as if the script was softened to reach more viewers. That choice weakens its impact, though it remains effective.Even so, Speak No Evil does what many thrillers can’t: it keeps you hooked until the end, making you feel fear under your skin more than through jump scares. It’s not better than the original, just different — with stronger visuals and a narrative rhythm that feels more Hollywood than European. The ambition is welcome, even if the social critique doesn’t fully land.Ultimately, it’s a gripping and intentionally uncomfortable film, featuring one of the most intense performances of the year. McAvoy turns every scene into a minefield — reason enough to keep watching… even if you’d rather cover your ears.

As with many Blumhouse thrillers, the character motivations start to go off the rails in the last act, where they clearly make silly decisions to hit the next plot beat. But McAvoy is devilishly slick, and the film consistently maintains suspense until the end. It's worth a view as the more pleasant alternative to the original, which is just too dark.

Diferente do original, essa versão de 2024, embora siga o mesmo roteiro e mesmos diálogos de seu antecessor antes de chegar no ato final, foca mais no suspense físico, no thriller, não entregando o mesmo horror psicológico dilacerante da sua contraparte dinamarquesa de 2022. James McAvoy traz uma boa composição mas isso não impede o filme de ser aquele tipo de remake de quem ninguém precisava, ninguém pediu mas traz bastante tensão. Como outros tantos parecidos com ele. Em relação ao material original, especialmente por seu ato final e sua conclusão, essa versão é um filme absolutamente diferente.

Es interesante, debido a que en un principio la historia comienza siendo amigable y tranquila, y en el último tramo pasa a ser tensa y **** está mal, pero no es de las mejores películas que he visto. Eso sí, es un recordatorio de no hablar con extraños en vacaciones.

Fun and intense film, actors were good, McAvoy can perfectly play a sketchy scary guy, good story progression and flow. Only issue I had was the worthless character of the Dalton husband. Felt he was needlessly written as a coward in comparison to the strong leader wife character, a narrative that is simply over used these past several years. Solid 6/10.

Has a good central performance but absolutely wears out its welcome and its premise before its climax.

Mouais bah, c’est du thriller très classique : une gentille famille rencontre une autre famille… et il se trouve qu’il s’agit de tarés et psychopathes plus ou moins dégénérés, surtout le père ! et sa femme aussi. Et comme ils sont chez eux à la cambrousse au milieu de nulle part… qu’est-ce qu’il pourrait mal tourner ?!… En fait, à peu près tout mais ça, vous ne le saurez que dans la toute dernière demi-heure (sur 1h50 de film) ! alors autant dire que ça se traîne très sévèrement comme un hamster mort (d’ennui) dans sa cage. Il ne se passe rien, vraiment rien du tout et même en accéléré (façon Benny Hill, vous voyez) il ne se passe toujours rien. Et enfin, lorsqu’il commence à se passer quelque chose (dans la dernière demi-heure), on est déjà soûlé… et on continue donc d’accélérer plein gaz… Scotty ?! il me faut toute la puissance ! oui, on doit accélérer l’étron à fond la caisse, bordel de merde ! surtout que McAvoy est unsupportable de cabotinage de bas étage (mais bon, il a toujours été nul, ce gros con). Mais à dire vrai, je m’y attendais et je me suis risqué sur ce film de merde à cause -surtout- de la bien jolie Mackenzie Davis (faut toujours que je regarde à deux ou trois fois pour écrire son prénom d’une traite, ce prénom bizarre et inécrivable), une actrice étonnante et fort convaincante. Mais elle ne peut rien dans ce thriller qui ne propose que de l’ennui et des clichés à deux balles, hélas !

It was a remade from a Danish movie If I remember correctly, but I think the actor it does agood job. Nothing special afterwards.

The difference between the two Speak No Evil films is the sole difference between the USA and Europe. Europe is always more realistic and relentless, while the USA writers believe that the audience craves happy endings. But they are not. Old habits die hard.

This is the undoubtedly more superior version of the original version released in 2020. Everything is much in-depth and actually more refined in terms of character development and especially the better ending than the shocking evil ending in the original one.

Ótimo suspense! A gente percebe que tem coisa estranha desde o início, mas não sabe exatamente o que é. As situações ficam cada vez mais desconfortantes até finalmente revelar a verdade. Tenso a todo momento, até em situações que deveriam ser socialmente simples fica climão. Gostei do final e de como os personagens se comportam as adversidades.

IN A NUTSHELL: The story is about a family that is invited to spend a whole weekend in a country home of another couple they had recently met while on vacation. The weekend reveals startling lies and an unimaginable dark side. This is an American remake of the 2022 Danish film. It’s unusual to get an American adaptation of a film so quickly! The movie was directed by James Watkins who also cowrote it with Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup. Christian and his brother co-wrote the screenplay, while Christian directed it. James McAvoy said that he did not watch the Danish film before he began filming because he didn’t want it to influence how he performed and presented the story. Twenty-four hours after they finished filming, he watched the original and said he was extremely impressed. Just so you know, the original Danish version is much more violent and brutal. The director of the unsettling Danish movie revealed that a real-life experience he had inspired the film. He and his wife met a Dutch couple when they were on vacation. Later, that couple invited them to visit them in the Netherlands. He and his wife declined the invitation because they thought it would be awkward. He let his mind wander and explore the worse-case scenario to see how far and horrific this movie could go. THINGS I LIKED0: I don’t really like horror movies, so the only reason I wanted to watch this was to see the incredibly sinister performance by James McAvoy. I’ve been a huge fan of his and knew he would be amazing in this. The’s absolutely nothing he could have done better in this role. His creepy performance was stellar. The rest of the cast also did a great job and includes Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, Aisling Franciosi, and the two darling kid actors: Alix West Lefler and Dan Hough. There are so many times in Acts 1 and 2 where we see red flags and feel extremely uncomfortable. As you become more aware of what’s really happening, you want to yell at the screen to warn the characters not to do what they’re about to do. That’s what a good horror can do: evoke fear and passion in the audience. Mission accomplished in this film. The movie was filmed in Gloucester, England and also in Croatia for a week. The title takes on an interesting meaning in several ways. Because you know the madness is coming, you feel the tension from the very beginning of the film and throughout every scene, wondering when the chaos will begin. The dialogue does a great job injecting some humor along the way. THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: Fans of the original Danish movie might be disappointed that the American film changes some plot points, especially the ending. Like most horror movies, there are always characters who make dumb decisions that put themselves in even more danger. Some viewers might complain that the story is slow-moving because they want to get to the crazy action sooner. The horror begins at the last 20 minutes of the movie. Speak No Evil is a tense, but sometimes boring piece of a film. On one hand, there is a super liberal family where the father isn't able to stand up for and protect his family, while the mother is both physically and mentally strong. On the other hand, there is a super messed up family of which I won't talk about, because it would involve spoilers. The buildup was tense, but they stretched it out just like the final action sequence. The characters made a few infuriating decisions, which wasn't enjoyable to watch. The message I got from the movie is that having too much empathy can be almost as harmful as having none, but it is what makes us feeling human beings. The cinematography was good, the editing too, but this film's best part is the acting. James McAvoy did a fantastic job, while all his castmates were great including the children. Speak No Evil is the kind of movie, witch is better than how the audience might enjoy it and I definitely didn't like it, but that doesn't change the objective truth that this is an okay film with some great things.

It's recommended to watch this alongside the original. If the Danish version portrays one extreme of cowardice, the Hollywood version is filled with the classic thriller elements typical of Hollywood. James McAvoy is phenomenal! I didn't realize who Mackenzie Davis was until I looked up her IMDB Profile and to my suprise she was in the Terminator: Salvation Movie. In a movie such as this when the presence of stupidity, for me, takes away from the true reality of the situation. Not everyone becomes overly stressed and inept in a life threatening situation. There are several scenes in the movie where one may think to themselves, why are you acting like that. Overall I found the movie enjoyable.

Absolutely loved this. So tense throughout. James McAvoy is just brilliant. You never know for sure where it is going but as the story unfolds you realise things are definitely amiss. Can’t recommend this enough. This is the kind of film M Night Shyalaman wishes he was making.

'Speak No Evil' is not such a bad remake despite practically copying the first two acts of the original; however, it's evident that the project did not want to walk the same dark terrain. And it is not that the Danish film is brilliant, but its ending full of hopelessness is truly disturbing. This new version opts to turn the third act into a home invasion thriller which, although it has one or two exciting moments, is very ordinary. The good news is that despite presenting a "happy ending", it does so with a certain gloomy tone thanks to a couple of scenes in the last minutes. James McAvoy, of course, is the film's main attractive; his unhinged performance gives us an exquisite and certainly frightening character. Mackenzie Davies, who takes advantage of the new material that the script incorporates around the couple's conflict, also stands out. 'Speak no Evil' succeeds in exploring from another angle the social limits and lies we live from a position of privilege; nevertheless, the absence of more horror elements and many commonplaces prevent it from being something more.

We’ll start by stating that we haven’t viewed the Danish original, so this review is strictly based on what this version brought to the screen. Speak No Evil has a decently interesting premise and solid performances from most of the cast, with James McAvoy giving a great, deranged, layered performance. It did provide us with some answers to many questions it posed, but we would have liked to have seen a little more depth to Paddy and what brought them to this life. And while we are all for slow burns, it takes a little too long to get into the heart of it all. But, when the tension hit, it had us wondering what would happen next, even if most of what we got was thriller/horror cliches in the end. Speak No Evil isn’t a bad film and worth a watch, but it takes a bit too long to get to the main tension and thriller aspects and leaves us with a finale filled with cliches and standard horror/thriller bits.
