As a sword and sandal action film, it is quite good. Some cool creatures. Really unintelligent people will think this is a clever film with some sophisticated meaning. There are moments to think about, but not think much. Most of the characters have American accents, there was no intention of making this a realistic portrayal of ancient Greece. Ann Hathaway does not look Greek but her performance is great. Lupita Nyong'o doesn't not look Greek either but her small part in the film is fantastic. As for Elliot Page, this person was not well cast as a soldier, but consider the soldier was drafted by way of a random lottery and is not presented as an effective soldier. The plot explains or writes around the casting choice to ensure there is some level of plausibility. It also takes a good actor to pull off a part like this. Again, the film isn't trying to be that realistic anyway. It was interesting to see how the cast would pull off the roles, considering the anachronistic casting or lack of plausibility. Matt Damon does not look Greek, he has worked out, and has a body that would convince me that he could defeat the large number of enemies in combat, for the most part. It does get silly towards the end. Some decent vfx at times, though some of the cgi looks really bad in places too. I felt there were missed opportunities with some scenes with creatures being a bit too short and then followed by boring long scenes. The sirens, unseen, the song is heard, missed opportunity. Matt Damon hearing the sirens and gooning over sound was unintentional comedy gold. Desperate Oscar bait worth watching. It is a very big budget hit and miss affair with some good performances here and there, alongside some phoned in supporting roles from big names too. There is also an issue with good actors not being given parts with substance to work with. Jon Bernthal, is not Greek, fantastic performance in a supporting role, that could easily have been forgettable. Zendaya is not Greek, her role had little scope, she performed well with what she had, but didn't offer the performance we have seen in other examples of her work. Same with Charlize Theron, not Greek, not much of a part to work with, we know she can act when given a good part. I recommend this movie to anyone that likes an above average sword and sandal action movie, and doesn't mind it being needlessly too long. If you are specifically offended by Greek people being played by people who are not Greek, perhaps skip this one.

I found this entertaining but part of the entertainment comes from watching some very amateurish actors with amateurish direction and very low budget, and very little in the way of visual effects try to pull off a practical vfx horror comedy action movie. The acting campiness tries to gloss over the massive holes in plot, lack of characterisation, lack of acting skill, lack of vfx and budget. The premise is very unoriginal, the creatures are mostly zombies, and by that I mean the same actors pulling faces with a bit of fake blood on them. Low lighting masks poor set, which appears to largely be one living room. Do I like the movie? Yes, it is ok but I wouldn't watch it again. I score it higher as there is some entertainment to be had and it is clear this is a very low budget independent film. I am impressed that they were able to fill the runtime with so little happening while creating the illusion of pace. For a horror comedy it was not funny or horrific. As social commentary it tried to say something about suburban life but there was no depth. It tried a lot and failed at most of it, but I commend the effort. The best part of the movie was a mid credits outtake which had some really impressive action, martial arts. I have no idea why something so good was cut from the movie. It is also a shame, this skill, being the stunt person and or the dynamic camera person was not utilized more in the actual film. If you have read this, and still want to watch it, you are probably a fan of camp horror comedy and don't mind watching one that doesn't quite pull off what they were trying to achieve. I think it is good for what it is.

I liked this movie. It has aged well, in the sense that while nothing like this happened in 1999, a lot of it did happen. The internet is a dark place and VR and Meta glasses are a thing, interesting to see how wrong and right the writers were. Some good performances, certainly more fun to watch now than when it came out.

I am happy that there is another scary movie and I am glad the original creators got their franchise back. I am not happy that this is not as funny as any of the other movies. I laughed a little bit but rolled my eyes more and was, more often than not, bored. It is nice to see the original cast, but I get the feeling that it is hard to deliver teen goofball quips when middle aged and not actually seeing the humour in the remarks. The main problem was the script. While a lot of these movies were sketches with little plot, the funny jokes had extended gags and funny scenarios set up by the plot, which is sorely lacking here. Unfortunately a middle aged man smoking a joint and giggling is not very funny, not the first time and certainly not however many times he did it here. I wanted to like this move, took my silliest friends to see it, got a bit drunk prior, but no, not funny. We plan on doing a marathon of the old movies to make up for it.

During the early nineties, as a preteen, this was my least favorite in the franchise. Mainly because it did not follow the formula like parts 3, 4, 5 and 6. After a while it was the one I had seen the least and therefore the most interesting to watch. Good things about this are that it does something different, basically a possession movie, leaning more into things like the Amityville horror than the established franchise tropes. It also has a subtle **** coding that went unnoticed until I was much older. Not like contemporary movies, this was subtext that most the producers and crew didn't notice.

This is a B Movie classic and worth a watch. Low budget and creative. A bit sleazy and quite silly. If you watch a film with this title and you don't see a masterpiece, you complain. Predates wishmaster but it is the same essential premise. A genie grants wishes that go wrong.

Cult classic. A must watch. Contains standout stars of the 80s B Movie era. A funny zombie movie with some very good vfx for a low budget movie. Animatronics are used in some zombie faces, which is a lot more than what you get in big budget modern zombie films. It is clear that much if the film was shot in one room locations and patched together. No car chases or ambitious action sequences but cool zombies and iconic 80s punk zombie fodder.

This is a mash up of better movies, implemented quite well. It is Hellraiser in space. It is Alien with demons. The plot makes very little sense but it does have lots of the genre beats we know and love and the set design is good. I heard it was butchered in an editing room and there was a lost original cut that was 100 times better. I believe that. A lot of gory things are only flashed up or in the background, out of focus. I think censors cut this to bits and ruined the film. Seeing as this is a horror film, a lot of the relevant material, shaped so we can follow, it involves characters dying in graphic ways. Most of this is cut out. We are left with a character covered in unexplained cuts all over his body. A character found cut open but it is unclear who did it and how. Someone with red eyes. Someone with OKish CGI fire on them. So spooky moments lacking any explicit detail and often a bit random or not fully explained. Indicators that things have happened without seeing much of it.

Being the worst movie in the Evil Dead series doesn't mean this isn't worth a watch. I enjoyed it for what it was. It is worse than all the Bruce Campbell movies. It is worse than the two prior rebooted movies. The last movie was a made for TV lower budget offering and this is still worse. I think the problem with this movie is a problem all the reboot films had, which is the Sam Raimi style is missing. The first reboot in 2013 pulled it off, with a very straight horror story. The second, Rise, struggled but not as much as this one. Burn tries to lean into the comedy more, it tries to embrace some of the gross out physical horror comedy of the originals but while retaining a dead pan straight horror style of the 2013 film. This makes the cringe moments less funny. It doesn't seem to know what it is. The characters are the least interesting. For a bigger budget movie compared to Rise, it does less. The final big bad is just a bad CGI burnt person, that would have looked 100 times better practical. Burn opens with a character from Rise, but it is played by a different actress and I couldn't tell it was supposed to be the same character. This is an attempt at creating cohesion between three stand alone movies. There is effort to build lore and create connections but the movie itself struggles to stand on its own. There is fun to be had here, some good moments. As someone who loves the series and the other movies, this is an essential watch but also not as good as the other five films. While some movies, like recent DC or Star Wars offerings, can kill an entire franchise, this isn't happening here, it is a middling entry in a great series. It is a decent film that could have been better.

This is a flawed film. What most people miss, is the opening sets up the life of the male lead as an unrealistic wish fulfilment fantasy. Later, the female lead feels like she is the victim of sexism, because, while hired solely for being the first female staff member on an alphabetical list, she believes she is the most qualified. The further irony is their job as advertising executives is merely to use sexist ideas to sell wine and beer. There is then a twist where this "real world" is turned upside down, and gender roles are reversed. In this reverse world, men look after their own children and go to the gym, care about their appearance and actually have to work for money- so very unusual. They also wear bras on their testicles. Once you realize this isn't a "what if men had to do what women do" movie and actually a movie pointing out how daft the battle of the sexes has become, it isn't that bad a movie. Looking closely we find that the oppressed female lives in a multi million pound central london house and the male CEO is unable to spend time with his family or form romantic relationships due to the time pressures of his sexist job. It is also worth noting that the male leads sister is a successful dentist in both universes, showing people who are not engaged with the battle of the sexes and have a skilled profession, rather than these advertising execs, are doing fine either way. Unfortunately, only half the production team understood that this film was trying to deconstruct silly glass ceiling and diversity hire narratives. Often the nuance is missing and I expect there is a better, more intelligent version of this movie somewhere on a cutting room floor.

The biggest issue with this movie is that it isn't a Sam Raimi film. Watching an Evil Dead entry without his signature style and humour feels lacking. That said, opting for straight horror was the right call, far better than forcing a new director to mimic someone else's voice. What remains is a well-made, genuinely frightening experience: gory, sinister, and packed with real scares. Bruce Campbell and campy humour are absent, replaced by a darker, more serious tone that exists certainly in a different universe from Ash Vs Evil Dead. Yet there's room for that approach. It avoids over-the-top blood-hosepipe to the face excess, pushing the limits of gore without it being so excessive that it becomes a comedy. This is a tricky balance that it pulls off well. I'd watch it again.

This is a TV movie that got cinematic release due to its high quality. It is not of the same production value as the predecessor; the remake of Evil Dead. That said, it is quite good, and depending on what you are looking for, in some ways, it did outdo the previous film. It is less ambitious in scale, moving from the cabin in the woods to an apartment, which reduces the need for shooting on location, reduces cost but also gives the movie some level of originality in terms of setting. Some of the acting is weak, particularly from younger cast members. I say younger, but one actor is actually much older than the character they are playing, and this actor wasn't great, so it could be a poor casting decision. Perhaps it's because a teenager should not be exposed to the extreme content of this film? It was kind of strange. The ending is quite ambitious, considering the budget. I appreciate the effort, and the ambitious, mostly practical visual effects reminded me a little of the brilliant effects of the 80s classic Evil Dead 2 in one place. It was clear things were jerry-rigged on set, camera angles and framing used to mask puppeteers. I like that kind of thing though, it showed innovation and being able to stretch the limits of a lower budget, the previous movie didn't have any creatures that would require any puppetry. While the general deadite effects look lower effort in places, there are some good moments. Some characters feel like placeholder bodies, someone to turn into a deadite, get some low effort mutilation to extend runtime. This should not be the case with an Evil Dead movie, character deaths should be carefully planned so that they are innovative and bring something new. We shouldn't respond to an Evil Dead movie scene with "oh, is that it?" In this movie, some scenes did shock but some didnt. A great installment in the franchise but I hope the next movie gets the backing and budget to be intended as a full cinematic release from the start.

Very, very low budget. The directors father did a lot more with a lot less. Not much going on in terms of plot character or camera work but the script does have some camp humour and some clever writing in terms of dialogue in places. They use the gay club disco lights for interesting lighting well in opening scenes and some extras brought some gay club clothes that looked better than some of the main cast's costumes. I expected the middle aged straight white male stereotype, but they didn't make him the enemy, which is inclusive! The premise is unoriginal but good and will likely do well based solely on being a **** zombie movie. There have been some great **** horror films in the past, but this is not one of them. One drag queen zombie had quite good makeup, and was used in the trailer, the poster art and shows up multiple times in the movie; they must have filmed a lot of the makeup vfx in one day and spread it about the run time to try to make it less boring. Some very low budget moments like a person mime drinking from an empty glass to numb the pain of having a very rubber looking axe removed from their leg. I wouldn't be surprised if this one drag queen zombie did her own makeup because other zombie makeup was not often as good and often shot in the dark, often avoided filming the face of the zombie. Sparse crowd in the club, who leave quite quickly, sparse number of zombies. It looks like they ran out of money while filming. If you don't mind a zombie movie that rations the zombies and gore due to budget constraints, this is an entertaining film. Bad acting, but this is a low budget zombie movie. Slow pace due to sparse zombie encounters but, worth a watch.

This appears to be a remake of the second movie, which is a remake of the first. Sigorney Weaver, in her seventies was coated in CGI to play an underage blue sexy cat with tentacles and seduces a teenage boy. On of the other characters betrays his planet and gives lots of guns to a villainous war like sexy alien. This movie plays out like a James Cameron has some strange fetishes. While the plot makes no sense and the characters are forgettable, and there is something creepy about all the sexualized blue cat-people. I was entertained. I didn't know what the intentions behind this movie are, it is one of the weirdest films I've seen, hiding in plain sight as a standard Hollywood special effects movie.

This is a scary movie about how a man buys a robot maid that just so happens to look exactly like Megan Fox. The robot glitches out and wants to sleep with the man. The twist is, that the man's wife won't believe that he bought a pretty robot without the intention of sleeping with it, and slept with it only because the robot took advantage of him. Predictably the glitching also turns out to make the robot into a killer, just like all the other killer robot movies. Better than the more recent terminator movies. Megan Fox"s performance is robotic, really playing to her strengths as an actress. Well worth a watch, similar to Megan and Megan 2 0

The pleasure of this movie is watching some fragile rich entitled Americans step out of their comfort zone and endure interacting with people who are not like them. The horror twist is that all people that these Americans have avoided their whole lives, which amounts to the majority of the world population, would gladly see them dead. The American actors were less convincingly performed but more monstrous in characterisation than the British villains. I rooted for the villains as their bullying of the entitled guests ramped up. It plays out like an awkward dinner party where the guests do not share the hosts values and have different lived experiences to the host. It ends with the reassuring notion that people who see the world differently to you, who do things slightly differently, are actually the most terrible people you could possibly imagine. Heartwarming fun.

Not as good as the original movie. The ending looked like they gave up on making the film. While the movie was ok and had some good action sequences, the ending made me feel like I had wasted my time. It was trying to be clever but failed. It was a corporate entity signalling fake anti corporate messaging vaguely alluding to genuine political protest but not enough to have anything to actually say about it, as this may harm their corporate goals. It had zero self awareness.

This is just a few episodes of the tv show. It doesn't play like a movie. One character is rescued twice. The story ends twice. A convoluted mess, which is a shame because I would love to see a genuine movie about these two characters.

It is alright. The actress who plays supergirl is ok, not bad, better than the new superman who is significantly worse than Henry Cavil. For some reason they made her look hung over and gave her messy hair for the whole movie, except the last 20 minutes. I enjoyed the film for what it was. The villain is forgettable. The plot makes little sense. The special effects are not pushing any boundaries. In the last 20 minutes of the movie she puts on the iconic suit, because it was lost for most the movie, and gains proper superpowers, which had been limited by plot devices throughout the film. So the last 20 minutes were probably the best bit and everything prior was a bad decision, removing the supergirl element of a movie that is supposed to be about supergirl. There is potential with this actress to make a good supergirl movie but this is fine if you turn your brain off at the door and pass a bit of time, if you are fine with mediocre superhero movies and won't get upset by the missed potential here. (For some reason this keeps showing as a zero, I scored it 5 and tried to change the zero back to a 5 several times, there is something rong with the site).

If sociopolitical messaging and promoting "climate justice" is more important to you than plot, character, action or, anything a movie used to be for, then this is probably for you.

Not a brilliant film but as a flawed but fun action movie with mechs, I enjoyed it. I would watch a sequel. Certainly as good as other cyberpunk flops like terminator 3 or the live action ghost in the shell. As a Netflix movie it is not supposed to be a blockbuster. I would watch it again if a friend wanted to see it with me. Perhaps with a bigger budget and some reshoots, a few bigger action sequences, this could be an 8 or 9. Great to see J-Lo acting again, even if it looks like most her work was done in a studio. Perhaps she wanted to have her hair done nice in every shot. Seeing Jenny from the block makes this movie more watchable than without her. If you can't forgive the obviously low budget and CGI mixed with J-LO who is clearly not inside the mech, but sitting in a studio on a comfy chair, with nice hair and make-up, perhaps you skip this. The plot is a massive and unnecessary exposition dump without meaningful payoff but followed by some mech action and cheap CGI fun.

A fun movie. Chris Pratt shoots aliens. The VFX are pretty good, much better than a lot of movies. Alien designs are cool. The plot is a little messy in places but the performances carry it. I didn't watch Jurassic Park for the plot and this is the same kind of thing, CGI monsters and Chris Pratt. I preferred this to Jurassic Park.

I got drunk before watching this movie. It was good idea and I enjoyed it more this way. For the duration of the film I was entertained. It did not destroy the franchise like the last movie, but it also didn't resurrect it from the failures of the last Jedi. Rectifying the problems of the last movie is a big ask, and not really possible but it is clear that some effort was made to ignore or quickly resolve issues caused by the last movie. I'm glad they didn't spend too much time on this, and tried to make an entertaining film instead. The visual effects were quite good. The plot was all over the place. People die, then come back to life, only to die again and then come back again and then die again to the point that death has no consequences. So it was pulpy nonsense with space ships and light sabres. Probably worth waiting for the Netflix release.

I knew the complaints about this movie going in. I wont mention them as they are spoilers but I think it was better going in knowing the faults with the film from the start; it helped me enjoy the movie for what it is- a failed reboot due to pandering to the social justice crowd. It has quite good VFX and the action scenes are quite good. The new villain is quite good in concept and the actor who plays it is serviceable. It is distracting at times when a small, nonathletic woman (without superpowers) singlehandedly takes down a group of people that includes able bodied men. It is also distracting from the narrative when an ethnic minority woman is chaperoned by an elderly woman and a crossdressing woman, while making statements about whiteness and the oppressive treatment of their wombs. I sat through the political posturing so that I could see Schwarzenegger, who has much less screen time on this occasion, do his robot fighting antics at the end. I enjoyed the mindless fun. I am aware that this movie was written and produced by a bunch of white men and is a vehicle for a hyper-masculine white male icon so all this insincere faux-woke political posturing doesn't really hold much weight. If the politics is not too irritating to you, you can turn of your brain and enjoy the explosions and robot skeletons.

Not as good as the first one. The adult actors are not very good compared to the child counterparts. There seemed to be a set-up for Pennywise becoming what each character was afraid of, but it was like the scriptwriter forgot half way through. The clown was scary, but not as much as in the last movie. Noncommittal allusion to one character's possible homosexuality contradicts a romantic subplot but earns woke points for for some I'm sure.

Good acting and entertained me for the duration of the film. Not as thought provoking or deep as critics lead me to believe. Good film but not one I would watch again.

Not a great movie. Samuel L Jackson was quite good in it. Really silly ending "explaining" a very stupid reason for something about his character but that's not Samuel's fault. The blonde woman, shes wooden and smug and not very good. I hope this Captain Marvel character doesn't pull the next Avengers movie down as she isn't interesting and the actress isn't good.

This is rather slow and dull compared to a lot of slasher movies. Some nostalgia inducing references to the original that will be missed by newcomers. A few cool moments that are all in the trailer. Strange soap opera moments where the knife fodder discuss their relationships, and this isn't scary, it is actually rather dull. Terrible ending, makes the whole thing look like a waste of time.

This is a movie about a spooky ghost nun. It contains the spooky nun from the trailer, so I wasn't greatly disappointed but there wasn't much else to this movie. It wasn't very scary but had a few moments. By the end of the movie I could see they were not going to do anything new, nothing shocking and the mysterious plot points at the start were just padding. There was minor suggestion of tapping into the trappings of the nunsploitation genre, where a horny frenchman, flirts with a nun, but no, the nuns were all very well behaved and this too was just padding with no payoff, nothing shocking or sexy or particularly horrifying. Just a few more scenes of a spooky nun.

The Predator appears to be about a very clumsy and forgetful alien that is a little aggressive but very easy to kill. A unique twist is that this clumsy and forgetful alien may actually be trying to save the world... but is killing people anyway for no real reason. I may be wrong about that plot point because I started reading the ingredients label on my large soda and was too bored to listen to what the characters were saying. Another unique twist is that the classic award winning designs of creatures from the original movie was "upgraded" to some bad CGI. There were some explosions and a very stupid and irrational female scientist who appears to have unexplained superpowers, a death wish and an urge to strip naked when in danger. Also the movie seems to have a cast of bad comedy actors who think they are funny but never really do anything funny. Something must have happened behind the scenes because the director has made good movies. I would be interested to know the events that made this movie so bad. The after credits tease for a sequel that will never happen was so bad it was like they really didn't want people to watch a sequel to this.

Going in to this movie I was aware of fake reviews from lady gaga fans trying to destroy the hype. I was also aware that the movie had issues with not having Spiderman in it, seeing that Venom is a dark version of Spiderman and Spiderman is an essential character in the original story. I was also aware that this movie was about a black jelly creature from space. Going in I had relatively low expectations and a bottle of Vodka. Some critics have complained about an inconsistent tone in this, a move about black jelly from space. Did anyone go to see this movie to measure the consistency of it's tone, and feel dissatisfied because there were both scary scenes and jokes? I think some of the critics had unreasonable expectations of what is essentially a B-Movie with a big budget. The space jelly is not great CGI but, who is to say what space jelly looks like, maybe it looks like CGI? It took me out of the movie the first time I saw it but I was OK with it by the end. The main antagonist is overshadowed by one of the most selfish and nasty girlfriends in history, I was hooked to see whether Eddie would retaliate to her insensitive actions and wondered if she was going to be revealed as a supervillain herself. What makes this movie good is Tom Hardy's performance as the only two characters that matter in this movie. Brock and Venom have distinct, compelling characters and there is a subtle but clever merging of personalities as they spend time together. A large portion of the movie explores their relationship and this is a real strength. Hardy joked that his best part of the movie was everything that was cut from the movie, I wonder if there will be an R rated cut of this? I would love to see more and hope that the teased sequels happen. If you want to see a movie in which alien slime controls Tom Hardy's brain, if that appeals to you, then you will really like this movie. If you think it is far fetched or silly, maybe this is not the movie for you.

This is a remake of the last Jurassic World movie, using the same cast. The unique selling point of this movie is that there is a genetically modified dinosaur, just like the last movie. This GM dinosaur is smaller, so that they can set the climax of the movie in a house. This makes the movie a re-tread of events in the last move, albeit with a smaller scope and cheaper sets. Chis Pratt has stopped working out as much and looks a bit fatter than in the last movie. There also seems to be this weird phenomenon in which a dinosaur is friends with Chris Pratt and keeps risking its life to protect him. Why does this dinosaur love Chris Pratt so much? Extensive animal training? No, there is no reason whatsoever, in fact this dinosaur has been left to it's own devices, abandoned since the last movie. There is fun to be had if you leave your brain at the door and enjoy the serviceable CGI.

You should already be aware that this movie ties together plot threads from other movies. There are too many characters and the ending is unbelievable because the audience is aware of other sequels in development that couldn't be made if the ending was to stand. Thanos is a good villain, which is an achievement for Marvel. This movie is much bigger in scope and has some fun set pieces. I enjoyed this as an action romp and a good mash up of characters that were already developed in other movies.

This is pretty much the same thing as the last Deadpool movie. There are constant wisecracks and references to popular culture and two thirds of these jokes miss the mark. Some of them are funny and a few made me laugh out loud, so the scatter-gun approach to wisecracks worked for me. Some average CGI for a superhero flick but I am forgiving considering that this movie is made for older audiences and had a lower budget. The low budget is also noticeable when compared to an Avengers or X-Men movie. It is much smaller in scope. Some of the humor is crude and is more appropriate for young teens but the movie is R rated due to language and violence meaning they are not actually allowed to see it. I would be happy for my 11 year old to watch this but not all parents would. It all depends on your opinion regarding naughty words. For adults, this is a little immature but a generally a fun action flick.

This is a really bad film, but also even worse because it kills a beloved franchise. I had to google an explanation for the end of the movie because it makes so little sense. Characters do totally irrational things and whole plot threads have no reason for events or character behavior. I left the theater not knowing who was alive and who was dead because it was so ambiguous and without logic. This movie is worse than the prequel trilogy. There is a light saber duel in the middle of the movie that is OK, although it is over-choreographed and some actors miss their mark, making it look like a silly dance in places. I don't think they can undo the harm in the next sequel, I wish they could retract the film and make it again properly.

The plot is unoriginal and the visual effects are poor compared to other Marvel movies. The actors do a fine job considering that they are not asked to do or say anything more than generic superhero fare. Strange social commentary lurks under a thin veneer of poorly rendered CGI. An example from the trailer is that this resource-rich African society has built a wall to keep foreigners out. It made me wonder if this was a comment on the USA but I rarely see pro-Trump messages from Hollywood so this is a bit confusing. I decided the script was all over the place and the audience was not expected to think too deeply about the vague paradoxical references to racial inequality. The superhero costume is good but it is also copy-pasted for the villain, the other characters have very poorly designed brightly-colored unrealistic synthetic tribal clothing that was clearly only worn once, showing a genuine lack of effort. These poorly costumed characters all stand on this CGI waterfall, that appears to have them all trapped really high up, but they don't seem to notice and just dance on the spot. There is a glimpse of that in the trailer by the way. I must confess that I fell asleep in the theater and missed the end, but I saw it on an airplane and found out what happened. The ending was quite predictable. If you turn your brain off at the door there is some fun to be found in this below average action flick.

This movie had the odds stacked against it from the start, seeing as it does not star Harrison Ford. That said, considering this is a movie no fan wanted and everyone thought was gong to be trash, I was pleasantly surprised. I walked into the theater with low expectations and found myself entertained. If you are the kind of person who will be upset by the fact that this movie treads on the original movie character's toes and kind of undermines the message of the original trilogy in rather minor ways, then maybe you should avoid this one. For me, I understand that this is a cash grab from Disney trying to milk an old franchise and this is clearly not a passion project from fans of Han Solo. The movie falls into some of the same pitfalls of the newer movies by allowing sociopolitical commentary to interfere with the escapism in a jarring way. The impact of the social politics is minor and this doesn't dominate the entire film, just one or two scenes. That said, as a Sci-fi heist movie, this is a good film, as an exploration of a beloved movie character from your childhood, it isn't great. If you are open minded enough to watch this movie without being upset by the irreverent treatment of the source material, there is fun to be found in watching this movie.

Ant man and the Wasp is a good, generally fun movie with good visual effects and no major pacing issues. It isn't breaking the mold or doing anything new, but it is fun if you like superhero movies. I think this is the first Marvel comic movie to have a female character in the title, if that sort of thing makes any difference to you. The trailer tells you everything you need to know about this movie, no surprises, an obligatory car chase and some scenarios involving growing and shrinking.
