It may feel like minor work, but still a movie with the power of Bill Murray, Rashida Jones, Sofia Coppola, and A24, and the journey was well worth the time.

I can't rate this any lower due to Bill Murray being in it and being particularly, well...Bill Murray-ish. He doesn't appear for the first 20 minutes or so but I was interested enough in the main story, away from him, anyway so it wasn't too big an issue. I would say that by the end, I'm not sure if I was entirely convinced by what we're told happened but I found it a very enjoyable watch overall anyway. Murrays character, the ladies father, has plenty of slick one liners and manages to talk himself out of numerous situations, the usual. Its a very watchable and somewhat laidback of a film. I enjoyed it, so yes, I'd recommend it.

This is one of the most honest comedy of all the time, so I think, that's why the people doesn't like so much this movie, but for my was great.

Nice movie. Nothing so special, but Bill Murray was great. I really enjoyed it and it works as a movie that you can just chill and has some valuable life lessons.

I'm a fan of Sofia's films, but this one is unwatchable. It is a mere attempt of revisiting the man/woman complicity we saw in Lost in Translation, mixed with Bridget Jones scenes, literally copied, and with a touch of Sex and the City. Sofia's snobism is everywhere, in the details of the life of the protagonists, in the fact they mention restaurants and Clubs, in the quotes about the paintings or the painters, adding nothing to the plot but useful only to underline that "she knows". There are at least a couple of inexplicable black holes in the plot that are uncomprehensible. Bill Murray does all, even if his character is so forced and above the lines that his brightness is in some way turned into ridiculousness. Everything is so boring and predictable, what a pity.

Bill Murray and Rashida Jones are quite a pair. I loved the dynamics between the two of them. It was a heartwarming movie, entertaining and definitely worth my time.

While its comedy sets it apart from her other work (though Murray provided similar comedic relief in the iconic Lost in Translation), On the Rocks still contains the classic tropes of a Sofia Coppola film: an intimate look at isolation, satirical depictions of privileged society, and a cinematographic love letter to a place and time. In the past, Coppola has taken us dreamingly through suburbia in The Virgin Suicides, Tokyo in Lost in Translation, Versailles in Marie Antoinette, and now the streets, restaurants, and apartments of Manhattan in On the Rocks. The film is understated and pleasant, with Murray stealing the show and the story offering some much needed uplift and comfort.

This movie isn't bad, per se, but it just... wasn't good. Best way to describe it is boring and dry. There's not much to it, really. I had high hopes as the casting is great but it really leaves the viewer wanting. It lacks music that actually adds depth and feeling and the story is seriously lacking any climax that actually feels like the height of the plot. Don't waste your time on this one.

(Mauro Lanari) "Lost in directing" and "Lost in New York", a film that tastes like an autobiopic on Coppola's vacuous flat existence, even devoid of any Allenian wriggle. Scary miscasting.

In what possible list of definitions can "On the Rocks" be labelled a "comedy"? To be clear, I prefer a subtle bit of sophisticated humour to the turd-tossing slapsticks that dominate modern movies. But this movie wasn't funny. A meandering sort of sitcom plot (again, lacking "com") they stretched and padded out from 25 minutes to 96. Most of the reviews that praise the film seem to be more in love with the concept and idea of Bill Murray than actually watching the show and seeing what he actually does, which is pretty much a mellow, aged, by-the-numbers effort. It is simply a snooze of a movie, without highs or lows, laughs or tears.

The story is too simple, and therefore too shallow. The only reason that I have completely finished this film is Bill Murray. Of course he's good again, but that's actually too little.

Such a great light and entertaining movie. Happiness with Bill Murray is in the small things, and this movie is no different. Interesting story line, fun conversation set in New York. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie.

S.Coppola tries her old formula of midlife crisis melancholia, but comes out way more silly and needlessly sentimentalist than deep or meaningful. In my opinion it's not a terrible film, mind, but one that leaves you sadder at the waste of all the talent involved than in the characters story arch.

Sofia Coppola returns to basics with 'On the Rocks'. Reflecting on the midlife crisis, the struggles of marriage, and the difficulty of relationships between fathers and daughters, the director delivers a funny and thoughtful film. It sure has its out-of-place moments, like the travel to Mexico sequence, but overall this is a good movie.

funny, witty, and typical Sofia Coppola. I loved it, and it felt like watching real people talking and discussing about everyday life and problems. Loved it

I can't say that Sofia Coppola is a bad filmmaker, but I must admit that after three years, her new bet is something that feels too passive for its own good. This movie is basically a sitcom, and sadly, more is expected from Bill Murray than from Coppola herself or Rashida Jones. And it's that basically once you do the final sum, the only reason why this very rudimentary story receives more attention than it really deserves, is due to the protagonists and the director and when all three of them are only playing in their automatic mode, you can't help but feel disenchanted. Competent enough to pass the time. Notably forgettable for the careers of everyone involved.

In this film from writer/director Sofia Coppola ('Lost in Translation', 'The Virgin Suicides'), Rashida Jones ('Parks and Recreation') stars as a middle-aged married woman who begins to suspect that her successful businessman husband (Marlon Waynes) may be having an affair. As a result, she enlists the help of her estranged father (Bill Murray) to get to the bottom of it. I was mostly interested in checking this out since it's the first time Coppola and Murray have collaborated since 'Lost in Translation', which remains one of Murray's greatest performances. And it turns out that they're a winning combination once again, as Murray's wry humor and Coppola's sharp writing pair together perfectly, along with the great chemistry between him and Jones. Moreover, it's full of both fun and touching moments, although the film does start to feel a little safe and predictable as it goes on, and things felt rushed and wrapped up a little too neat and tidy by the end. However, it was still a fun ride while it lasted. Overall, it's heartwarming and fun, and Coppola's and Murray's talents make it worthwhile.

If you’re a Bill Murray fan, the latest film written/directed by Sofia Coppola will make you happy. Otherwise, not so much. Rashida Jones plays a New York mom who begins to suspect that her work-obsessed hubby (Marlon Wayans) is cheating. Her father (Murray) plants the seeds of suspicion and helps her discover the truth. The story and interactions are mildly interesting, even though there’s little modification in the pace or energy. The performances are fine, but it’s mostly Murphy’s showcase. He plays very much to type as a charming, eccentric, off-center womanizer. I’ve never been a big admirer of his style, so there wasn’t much else to recommend this most pedestrian of Coppola’s films.
