played to me like a guy richie type of story that everyone involved assumed would be better than the final product.

It is fine. This doc probably doesn't make people on either side of this issue happy.

Nickel Boys9

I didn't like at all the first person filming, but this movie wasn't about my comfort, I acknowledge. This film was in my head for many days after watching.

Mountainhead7

Not a feel-good movie, but definitely reflective. Maybe like going to the dentist.

Ghostlight9
Mar 7, 2025
Messy and real in a way that felt offputting at first, but paid off as we were allowed to learn the story. Gave me the biggest smiles and several moments of tears.

Chasing Chasing Amy7
Dec 29, 2024
Had my fill the Chasing Amy memories -- which was a memorable movie for me in college -- for the first 30 mins. I'm so glad a stuck around for the end of this documentary.

Bernstein, or at least Cooper's portrayal, was so much more unlikeable than I was ready to process! The story, while painful, was riveting.

Sometimes I'm curious why a movie gets review bombed, but other times I wish someone would have just told me to just watch the movie and enjoy the heck out of it.

Anyone annoyed by any message in this movie should ask themselves why watching it makes them so angry. Then, they need to remind themselves that now they're angry, it's obvious the terrorists have won.

On the Rocks7
Jul 10, 2023
It may feel like minor work, but still a movie with the power of Bill Murray, Rashida Jones, Sofia Coppola, and A24, and the journey was well worth the time.

Spoiler Alert7
Jun 19, 2023
It's good, but the story had me bored several times. This may not be fair, but the story may have been better in a television show format.

Creed III6
Jun 11, 2023
Formulaic, but well made. Would have loved to watch this as a television series.

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio10
Dec 10, 2022
A masterpiece of a film. This feels like it could objectively be the definitive story, which is impressive given the preceding films.

Bullet Train7
Dec 6, 2022
Sometimes a movie comes along that is fun. Fun to watch from start to finish. It turns out -- I don't hate that feeling.

DC League of Super-Pets6
Oct 9, 2022
Enjoyable, but if you draw a line of what feels like a streaming movie vs theater release, you'd probably assume this was made for HBOMax.

Lightyear7
Aug 10, 2022
The movie was fun. I have a hard time understanding an audience that needs every story and artistic message to be preapproved by themselves first.

The Bob's Burgers Movie7

No doubt a fun movie, but not important or any better than an extended tv episode.

It is good. But long. And mostly not the movie I wanted it to be. But it is good.

Loved the bonkers fun house-like filmmaking that others seem to have not liked.

Worth seeing in the theater. The flight scenes will leave you feeling affected.

it was -- fun-ish -- i guess. i wanted to like it, and most of the music was enjoyable. the equality message was cool.

My Octopus Teacher8

It is astonishing that, as I write this 3 months after its release, there is only one review of this movie. It is shot beautifully and tells an incredibly engaging story.

The kind of movie that is better the longer it sat with me. Won't be for those wanting an easy watch.

Dick Johnson Is Dead8
Nov 22, 2020
Not the easiest movie to watch. My family couldn't get on board with the premise. I'd recommend it only for the moral and emotional challenges, but it is also a great film.

Mulan7

It didn't (maybe couldn't?) live up to the hype, but it was enjoyable enough.

Familiar story in a topical setting. Just when I thought I'd be bored, the story got intimate enough to hook me.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always8
Jun 15, 2020
In the current atmosphere of social unrest exposing systemic racism and a global pandemic, what a powerful reminder that social justice is long overdue for women as well. The emotional climax also reveals the movie's title in such a perfect cinematic moment.

Of course I came in this expecting to loathe it, but it is simply incredible

It is not that I wouldn't recommend, but "the greatest rock documentary ever made"? Not for me.
Feb 28, 2020
See You Yesterday9
Feb 28, 2020
A fascinating amalgam of genres, without losing focus on the movie's most important social theme.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World7

I think I'm tired of this story. The movie isn't bad, but the storylines are too familiar.

One Child Nation7
Feb 8, 2020
Informative and heartfelt, but it doesn't really chronicle as compelling of a story as most of my favorite documentaries. This felt a little like homework.

I Lost My Body7
Jan 18, 2020
The movie was too unsettling at times to love. Definitely worth seeing though.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum4
Jan 18, 2020
The movie feels pointless -- unless you are really interested in types of neck killings.
Dec 24, 2019
They Shall Not Grow Old5
Dec 24, 2019
Visuals aside (and they were awesome for some of the movie), this is like a lecture from your least favorite class of all time.
Apr 8, 2019
Creed II6
Apr 8, 2019
While the boxing scenes were outstanding, nothing in this movie feels necessary. Even the film's most moving moments were so predictable and cliched that it felt like homework just to get through.
