Girls State8

House of Gucci6
Feb 20, 2022
- Review in English - The House of Gucci, despite being clear about its outcome from the beginning, all the way it goes to get there it feels quite unbalanced and lazy. The narrative of it tries to be very mundane, but it ends up being an exaggerated drama in the style of a 90s soap opera, focusing more on gossip and fights between the family, rather than anything relevant to the Gucci brand. However, it has a couple of moments in the story that, if it manages to attract attention dealing with quite versatile and interesting topics such as the theme of piracy, without a doubt for me it was the best of the film, despite the fact that it is very short, considering the exaggeratedly long duration of the film.
The stellar performances are pretty good, I'm surprised not to see Lady Gaga nominated for an Academy Award for this role, Jared Leto is on the edge of excellence with mediocrity and the entire cast full of great artists do a great job , however, the secondary characters and extras seem to have no direction at all. And from there we come to the direction of Ridley Scott, the person who gave us one of the best films of the year (The Last Duel), which makes us not understand why he did a lousy job with this film, it seems that he made this film for commitment and with a lot of laziness, however, if I kept myself entertained throughout the film.

Jackass Forever10
Feb 6, 2022
- Review in English - I remember when I watched the first Jackass films, I always thought that those people would lead a difficult life in the future because of all the dangerous challenges they performed. 20 years later they return, but with steroids and at the same time with a cane. Without a doubt, the nostalgia factor plays an important role in this new film, despite reusing some challenges from the past, they manage to give it a different approach and make them feel quite fresh and innovative. With all this, adding that this has the biggest and most ambitious production of the franchise, not only showing us the results of a joke or a challenge, but also making this an impressive audiovisual show.
You enjoy this film, as well as you suffer it, many use the term "Roller Coaster of emotions" when referring to the sensational quality of a film, however, we also quote it here, but really showing the nature of a roller coaster: fun, terror, nausea and creepiness. He can't leave you silent for a minute because he always manages to impact us in many ways, whether it's forcing us to look the other way, laugh, feel nauseous, etc. My final conclusions regarding this movie are, that it is definitely on another level, that I regret having bought popcorn and that when the movie was over, I went to the bathroom to urinate, I looked at my **** and said it “I love you”.

Leave No Trace9
Feb 3, 2022
- Review in English - Leave No Trace is a fairly mature film and without any objection, you manage to understand the problems these characters are going through. Thomasin McKenzie today has established herself as a great actress on the rise, but this 2018 film shows that her great work is reinforced from her first performances. The script and the direction demonstrate a great ability to show a point of view of these people with interests so intrinsic that they expand your way of seeing life.

The Tree of Life7
Feb 3, 2022
- Review in English - If I could define in a few words this film would be: “Visually out of this planet and narratively ambitious”. The cinematography shows up here, is one of the greatest and most flamboyant that I have ever seen, nevertheless, the editing, at times frantic, it takes me out of this surreal and immeasurable trip about what it means the life itself.
The performances were excellent, it achieves great suspense moments and littles sparkles of so real feelings that the life gifts you. The script, as I said before, I thought it was quite ambitious and easy to make you lose the train of thought, however, it notes that they made it in the best possible way and I appreciate it.

Judas and the Black Messiah10
Jan 30, 2022
- Review in English - Maybe it doesn't catch you very much at first, but as it progresses, it manages to generate enormous pressure and makes it the densest film of the representation of the revolution of the 60s. Both the quality of acting and direction increases as the film develops, culminating in a conclusion that affects you for many days (even more so if you don't know the outcome of this true story).
Each participation manages to steal their scenes, but without a doubt Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield show a masterful performance in their roles. Regarding the script, it has a consistent flow but is difficult to digest at times, despite its duration of more than two hours, it has a balance between fast and slow development, and this could be a negative point for some people.
The cinematography is quite beautiful and risky, which demonstrates Shaka King's impeccable direction for this political drama that, despite having spent more than 50 years, unfortunately this problem is still in force today.

The Rescue8
Jan 23, 2022
This type of material makes you see that the development of documentaries is much more interesting to make.
A great example of a virtue that is always born to us as humans in this type of event: Solidarity. But it doesn't feel like it really brings something new to documentaries, another very god documentary film from National Geographic.

The Fighter10
Jan 23, 2022
Every time I watch a new David O. Russell movie, I end up liking it more than the previous one, this film is the pithier of his career, the way he directs each character and each situation is quite applaudable.
About the performances, well, they get three nominations for the Academy Award and two of them won it, so, that says it all. And the script has a palpable superfluity in which at all times it presented us with something important and interesting to watch.

The Green Knight9
Jan 23, 2022
Here we have one of the most confusing and uncertain films of the year. You must do your homework to understand and enjoy this hypnotic and haunting adventure. Just knowing the five virtues of a knight which are: Generosity, Friendship, Chastity, Mercy and Chivalry, you'll have enough information to understand in more detail the purpose of the film, but, that doesn't mean that it'll solve all your doubts, which will be many.
Even though I didn't understand at first, I could recognize that the script is quite well done, because it has many interesting and iconic dialogues. The performances are quite wondrous and each of them is quite appreciated. David Lowery shows us his most ambitious project to date, the level of production is very high, both production design and visual effects. Not to mention the gorgeous cinematography, one of the most remarkable of the year, I hope it gets an Academy Awards nomination.

Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)9
Jan 22, 2022
"The United States has so much money, but it doesn't have soul"
Seeing this incredible documentary transported me back to when I was a child and used to watch Michael Jackson concerts recorded on DVD, but with the factor that this had not been released until now and the fact that it was a historical moment.

Initially, I felt very confused about what kind of film I was watching, until a saw the interview with the writers of this film, Ron and Russell Mael, members of the band Sparks which they had plans for their new album to be presented by means of a film. So, that explains the strange format that it had and it brings a lot of freshness to this genre. But, at times I lose my train of thought.
The director shows incredible creativity in the staging of this film, most of the time by artificial means in a good way, because the artificiality somehow heightens the emotional component instead of distracting you. The performances were great and the last scene adds enormous emotional value to the film.

While We're Young9
Jan 20, 2022
This is the perfect example of why dramatic comedy is one of my favorites genres. Noah Baumbach does an excellent job showing us the good and the bad side of this kind of friendship.
The performances are great and the script quiet interesting and contemporary, I don't understand why this film was indifferent to the audience, for me was great.

The Human Voice8
Jan 19, 2022
A beautifully presented self-reflective monologue about the loneliness and the depression, and how to deal with it.
The performance of Tilda Swinton is excellent as always and the directing together with the production design, the costume design and the cinematography reminds me of Lars Von Trier's Dogville in a good way.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania6
Jan 19, 2022
Well, after three mediocre films, they made another one and fulfills what it is, but I'm gonna say that Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is the best in the franchise. It's an entertaining adventure of the characters and that's all, it has a good message at the end but they doesn't development it at all and it seems that the development that Dracula has had in the previous films disappears.
Animation quality comes and goes, at times it takes a step forward and at others it takes a step back.

Pain and Glory10
Jan 17, 2022

It takes an already controversial and interesting topic, and captures it in such an original and innovative way. And they manage to create a beautiful and complete drama without romanticizing the situation that the characters face.
All the performances are magnificent, Elliot Page since then shows us the great potential of her acting quality.

What Do We See When We Look at the Sky?7
Jan 11, 2022
It's hard to talk about this film because I watched it in a 4 day range. To be honest, I'm not sure what the title means for the film. I also want to emphasize that I hardly followed the thread of the main love story. It seemed like we were gossipers and saw everything from afar.
Nevertheless, the editing and the cinematography is quiet decent to the point of transporting us to an almost alternative reality, because it shows us quite daily activities, but that take place on the other side of the world and makes it even more interesting to appreciate. This was what I liked the most about the film, the world that surrounds the main characters.

Isle of Dogs10
Jan 10, 2022
It is a film with a hypnotizing and overwhelming audiovisual proposal, the first thing I wanted to do was watch it again because it feels like the warmth of hugging a dog.
This is possible the most perfect stop motion film ever, everything has such a perfect fluidity it almost feels surreal both in story and animation.
The first thing I thought when I finished watching was "I will sleep with my four dogs today".
Jan 9, 2022
Hereditary10
Jan 9, 2022
The atmosphere of Hereditary is one of the most perfect ever made, becoming us observers of manipulating people's emotional weakness and as a curse heritage expands on your legacy like a dangerous disease. This and more represented so broadly both in script and in the audiovisual field that you can watch the film several times and if you pay a little more attention, you can get a new surprise every time you watch it.
Also it shows the best performances of the leading actors: Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd. Ari Aster creates a classic snapshot of horror cinema and which will be taken as the main point of reference for future generations.
All technical aspects are excellent and original, but the most remarkable thing is soundtrack, this being one of the most terrifying and immersive ever made.

Prayers for the Stolen9
Jan 9, 2022

Shiva Baby8
Jan 7, 2022
The simple existence of a young woman representing one of the most stressful moments in life, when you have no way to go.
Shiva could be translated to what we know as a novenary in Mexico, but it isn't similar at all, it manages to create an atmosphere of strangeness and disorientation despite the film occurs in only one location, this done on purpose due to the main theme that is the acceptation.
What I love about this indie films is that the director always take advantage of what is available for their films, in this case, Emma Seligman made an excellent debut as a director and writer.
The performances were very organic in every moment, these being the ones that had me immersed in the film all the time. It has a great script, but when it's about the proof of a concept and not to tell a story as such, is difficult to enter and understand what the movie wants to show you, like the director said "This film is a bar joke".
Jan 4, 2022
The Lost Daughter8
Jan 4, 2022
The Lost Daughter is an unnatural film, move the molds about what it means the motherhood to exposes us the other side of the coin, the dark side. Maggie Gyllenhaal adapts the book of the same name in a masterly way, maybe not making us understand, but making us feel what she wants to convey.
I love Olivia Colman performances, but I'm gonna say that this performance is the best of her career, also for Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson. They are so sincere and natural to manifest such an unnatural thought to make us think that it should be a natural thought and this will be rejected for some people.
The story is slow and tries to play with the surreal at times, on a first impression, this causes a mess to get more involved in the story. It's a film which we have to take another look at.

Lamb9
Jan 2, 2022
The shock of appreciating some moments of this film is abysmal. Is a simple story and it develops slowly, but it's full of very captivating and disturbing nuances.
From the first impression upon seeing the lamb, the film grabs you and keeps you on the edge of your seat in a rather strange and attractive visual tension.
It manages to generate a quite large impact visually and conceptually speaking just like it companions in the A24 (Hereditary, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, The Witch, Saint Maud, etc.), while achieving a unique and incomparable style.
The performances were great, even the lamb. The directing of Valdimar Jóhannsson takes advantage of everything he has at his fingertips, captivating us with a unique vision and leaving us with much to think about.
Maybe at first, you won't really understand the film in all its complexity, you just need a little explanation of the meaning of the film and from there, you begin to raise your own theories and interpretations of the film.
Nevertheless, at times, for a strange reason, I felt like I was watching another live action film of Stuart Little, but this doesn't last long.

Dec 27, 2021
Undoubtedly from the first minute you immerse yourself in the story, without mention the lovely animation showing us the continuous evolution of Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The most delightful of the film is there characters, probably they are the most original of the film too. Their gifts and insecurities are the most charming, giving us to understand that nobody is perfect.
It was going very well until the conflict arrives, is very intriguing and interesting, but it comes too late and the resolution has a lot of sense about "What keeps a home standing, is the union of the family" but it rush it a lot to end it and it makes loss all the impact.

The Matrix Resurrections6
Dec 26, 2021
The first thing that I must clarify is that I am not a fan of this franchise, I've only watched the first film. So, I belong to those people who liked the first act, in the first instance I considered it quite risky but manages to unfold in an intriguing way and in a certain way, taking existential concepts again.
The second act was the worst of the film, I have very rarely been so bored watching a film and unfortunately happens here. Almost all the middle was pure explanation, the action scenes in this part were quiet heartless.
The third act gets to take power with great chase scene, the most exciting scene of the film. The conclusion is fine, but in this point you almost forget how they get there. In the end, this film manages to be a great show at times, but regrettably is forgettable.
Last but not least, the cast were very fine and about the visual effects I would say like a character in the film says "It's so perfect that it doesn't seem real".

The Sixth Sense10
Dec 25, 2021
Now days, this film has become an icon of how to mix various genres with a horror base and end up making an excellent audiovisual material. The frames are iconic and superbly executed, at the same time as the performances, the script, the directing and the editing achieve unforgettable insightful moments.
The first time that I watched this film was an experience like no other, even knowing the ending. It shows great maturity be making you cry, smile, thrill you and scare you in the case of be a horror film.

The Matrix9
Dec 25, 2021
The Matrix represents an evolution in the cinematography field achieving a unique and incomparable audiovisual environment. Accomplishing this without leaving aside the great script, taking existentialist concepts and redefining them.
The Matrix is a film ahead of its time, even in this last year is still part of popular culture and it will continue to be for a long time. It is one of the movies you must see before you die.

The Witch10
Dec 25, 2021
The best indie film ever. This is the perfect example of take advantage all the possible elements that you have on hand when you're directing your own film.
Nothing feels wasted in this, the script is original and round taking into account even the small details, the performances were great, even to consolidate the career of Anya Taylor Joy in her first acting.
The cinematography represents an amplitude as well as a mesmerizing unsettling claustrophobia. Mightily impressive, brimming with beauty and terror.
In a few words, it's a balloon that inflates slowly until it unexpectedly explodes and it does it in a terrifying way.

Don't Look Up9
Dec 25, 2021
A film written and directed (before the pandemic) trying to make a parody about how the politicians and newscast react to an imminent extinction, it feels so familiar and sometimes nothing far from reality.
If you really want to enjoy this emotional trip, you have to tolerate absurd black comedy that this film handles, very stupid and unconscious. With that in mind, you'll be absorbed in this upsetting story and sense everything that the film wants to transmit, from heartwarming scenes to tense moments.
The performances were excellent, one of the best cast of the year, some of them taken advantage of 100% and some others completely replaceable due to its low participation. But undoubtedly, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are reason enough to watch this film.

CODA9
Dec 20, 2021
The main theme is not the inclusivity that in some way a lot of people have classified it as a problem in this kind of film, but it is empathy. This film is the refined representation about belong to one community just, regardless of the problems that arise in everyday life, we all deserve our place here.
The script is its strongest aspect, it shows very genuine moments that will remain reflected in your mind for a long time and knows how to play with our feelings to make us realize that the sign language its maybe the second idiom most important below your mother language. Nevertheless, it has some moments that doesn't have any development, the scenes has impact, but they are in someway unimportant. But that is not an impediment to get an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The ensemble is one of the best of the 2021, everyone give the best of themselves, but Emilia Jones is excellent in her performance, I would like to see her nominated in this awards season.

Spider-Man: No Way Home8
Dec 17, 2021
- First Time Watching It -
This film is the Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but perfectly done. It's replete of a lot of characters with a lot of stories and moments very different one each other, but it has a great assemble and achieves fluency during all the film.
If Avengers Endgame moves our feelings based on a 10 years nostalgia of Marvel's films development, Spider-Man: No Way Home shakes us based on 20 years nostalgia of our childhood and our passion to become a hero like Spider-Man. It manages to be a tribute of everything about Spider-Man and in the same way achieves the best development to this character in the MCU, it exposes everything it represents to be not just a superhero, but be Spider-Man and its perfect on that.
I'm gonna say, for the excitement, everything feels so natural and organic, but it really isn't. The events that occurs have an explanation but it doesn't abounds a lot in that, to be concentrate it on moving our feelings in any way, during first impressions this is unbelievable, but in the long run isn't see very well.
About all the characters that appear it, they get a righteous participation in the film, but we need to see more and more and so much more.
In a few words, Spider-Man: Far From Home is too good to be truth.
Rating: 9/10 - Second Time Watching It - Like I said in my first review, this film won't see very well like the first watching. Everything of which we yell for loses its impact and only the nostalgia of the emotions that we felt the first time watching it as a massive film event remains and that's a good thing that fits.
Now, in a deep way, the best of the film is the whole story arc of Spider-Man's Tom Holland, leaving aside everything about the multiverse. Now it does feel like a Spider-Man movie and not like a MCU film. Final Rating: 8/10

Zola8
Dec 16, 2021
Its style is unique in every single way, both script and staging. It's a film that handles the cuteness with the seduction and achieves a strange balance that generates an attraction quiet interesting.
The performances were great and very gripping in their role. I always wonder, how will be the life of the people who are traveled in any highway, in someway, Zola is an example of that, considering that this film is based on a chain of tweets and that is both hilarious and dangerous.
I don't think that this film has any defect, but I considered that is not a rating 10 film.

Spider-Man: Far from Home8
Dec 14, 2021
Until this film, I could really empathize with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, finally it gets the great development that this character deserve after some appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In comparison with Homecoming, this one has its own style and in someway succeeds in innovating both visual field and script.
Undoubtedly, this film is one of the biggest audiovisual shows of Marvel's films, the visual effects were excellent and the action scenes were great. Something that's appreciated is the cast, they got an excellent balance in all the development of each character un this film.
Now, if you weren't convinced by the mystery of Mysterio, you can not appreciated all that I mentioned before, and that is compressive, but in someway is a warning of something that is coming tomorrow.

As a MCU film is an entertaining trip around the new world of Tom Holland's Spider-Man, using the same formula of this universe franchise. It has great moments like the ferry scene and the plane scene, and that plot twist is so tense and shocking.
The vulture is an excellent villain, his background is one of the most envelopment in all the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a concept, but not really like a visual spectacle, maybe just at the end.
As a Spider-Man film is the less styling of all, it has a lot of changes that loses all the background of the character, you can't really empathize with Spider-Man, because this changes move us out of our comfort zone to take us to an awkward and inconvenient zone. The editing and the cinematography feels so weird and frantic and not to mention that the script is full of conveniences.
- RATING -
As a MCU film = 8/10
As a Spider-Man film = 6/10

- Review before have seen an explanation - This film shows us a surreal and strange world, but with a graceful way of handling the script and a colossal staging. Undoubtedly that this was so unnerving and alluring, both performances and technical / practical field.
An indie film in the right hands manifests the biggest quality of the director to make appear a short budget film to a big budget film. It takes liberty of doesn't explain us some important plot gaps, but you don't need at all, because it's intriguing enough and it's totally unforgettable. - Review after have seen an explanation - Now I confirm that this film doesn't need an explanation, all it did was open my eyes a little more, because the representation of some ideas like redemption, affection and a pretty weird way kindliness is obvious now that I think about it and that gives all the meaning to the film.

A film completely hypnotic both staging and performances. Without any doubt, the blend between the score, the cinematography, the performances and the script gets a disturbing balance to make you look away.
Considering that almost all the film is a metaphor about the first sex encounter and what happens after of that, is hard to get into it easily, and also keep up with it.

The balance between the performance of Natalie Portman and the directing of Darren Aronofsky are enough to get an incredible film. Everything else is gain for our feelings and give us goosebumps during the 108 short minutes.
My perception of the film is the metamorphosis of grow up, how do you transform from childhood to adolescence or even to the maturity, displayed in a visceral and violent metaphor.
Everything in this film is a topic of conversation, but for me, the most remarkable of the film is the immaculate cinematography, is one of the best that I had ever seen.

This is the most immersive film of the year. Everyone doesn't need to be ready to this wonderful epic drama family bursting with life. A biopic that we didn't ask for, but that we need to evolved our conscience.
Finally Will Smith will win an Academy Award for Best Actor and he really deserves, his performance was subtle also poignant and all the cast were excellent in their roles.
The director wants to cross the way of the symbolic narratively, because the script and the dialogues were the best of the film, definitely was the most spellbinding.
Everything else were very well, but in the technical aspect doesn't take risks to show up a visual breakthrough.

When I finished it, I was a little bit lose regarding that end, so I watched an explanation about it and my idea with respect to the film was right, but in that moment I didn't realize why. You can do that or watch the film twice and understand the great value of The Power Of The Dog.
The performances were excellent, everyone steal your attention in every moment. The cinematography in some way it transform to interesting character to take notice.
In general, it's a perfect film in every way but with a nothing new script.

The visual effects are awful in every way, I guess Sam Raimi has some great ideas to the action scenes, but he didn't find a good way to made it. The script barely shows us some great moments like the past films, but in general it's less of heart.
About the villains, the only one who we can save is Sandman, I think he is the best of the film at first, but at the end show up something what detracts development to that character, Harry Osborn was OK and Venom totally wasted.
It adds great elements to the story like Gwen Stacy or moment like the hardest scenes between Mary Jean and Peter Parker, obviously the advices of Aunt May and that's it.

Having been one of the biggest success films ever is its gift and its curse. It's a grandiose and unforgettable visual spectacle, it has the most creative shots in the MCU, the action scenes are shocking and some characters have their best roles in this film.
All mentioned is the gift of the movie and the curse is that it has our full attention only in that aspects, because the film has a great script, round, complete and with great value, but they almost force you to ignore the story as such and just enjoy the fights.
I have watch it again and my experience was totally different now that I was paying attention to the script.

The most remarkable of the film is the lovely also spine-chilling production design, it's very original even for Guillermo Del Toro's films. It has great moments which are unsettling in different ways.
The performances are good, but not perfect. Guillermo Del Toro made his seal in a classic mystery movie adapting it for a new generation, but I think that it wasn't the better way to do it. The script is round and complete, nevertheless is quiet weird, sometimes it feels like a family film and suddenly it shows rather disturbing scenes. The story doesn't have any stability and that is the only mistake of Crimson Peak for me.

An incredible gratifying experience. This film is very affecting with the anxiety, as strange as it sounds. Because we have an eagerness to do whatever we want without see the world around us and be aware that it could explode in any second.
All the performances are great, considering that most are unknow faces. Andrew Garfield is getting an Academy Award nomination for sure and I hope that it won't the only nomination for this film. The script and the editing get a refined harmony to make it very interesting and entertaining.
The musical scenes are well, but not perfect like other films, and considering that it has the require elements for tell a great story, the cinematography and the visual effects are not perfect too.

I watched a long time ago and I had a conflict about this film, I couldn't understand why Spider-Man 2 was considered one of the best superhero movie ever. I'll be honest, I was a kid and I didn't process the film like this days, that doesn't mean that the film didn't like in that moment. Now days, I get on the train to swear that Spider-Man 2 is the best Marvel film ever.
It's an amazing mix of genre which has you on the edge of your sit during all the film. It'll thrill you, it'll make you sad, it'll amuse you, it'll make you jump out of your seat in excitement. It could be said that I am exaggerating but this film is perfect in every single aspect, the script, directing, cinematography, visual effects, the performances, editing, sound and soundtrack, achieving an unique style to be the benchmark talking about Spider-Man.
It squeezes all your feelings while with a gorgeous eloquence speaks us about the importance of kindness above all. It could be summarized with great tenderness with the next verse.
"I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble and finally allows us to die with pride. Even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing that we want the most. Even our dreams"

Until this days, none adaptation of a superhero of Marvel on the big screen have been being able to get over this trilogy (well, except for the third one), it's an instant classic with an extraordinary vision. The way of direct this film was a breakthrough to create the category of Superhero Film together the X-Men films. It gets a great balance between the excitement, touching and amusing with unforgettable performances, a round script and great action scenes. Considering all of this, it isn't perfect, but I will talk about perfection in the second film.

It's a shame that in every single film starring Dwyane Johnson, everything revolved around him. Because this is a great film, but his narrative arc, for me, was the worst. Everything else was great and very funny.
