Probably Wes Anderson's best-known stop-motion film, and for good reason. This is a fantastical and delightful movie based on the Roald Dahl classic, Fantastic Mr Fox. Fantastic Mr Fox is such a key memory, I think, for so many children growing up, that it's impossible to dislike this movie. I think it's great and worth watching for anyone, no matter how old they are.

Cussing brilliant in every sense. Fantastic Mr. Fox might look like a quirky kids' film at first glance, but under its charming stop-motion fur lies something much deeper — a thoughtful story about family, addiction, identity, and the instinct to rebel. Wes Anderson’s first animated outing brings his signature style — deadpan humour, symmetrical frames, and eccentric characters — into a whole new form, and surprisingly, it works. Not instantly, but gradually. The stop-motion animation is intricate and immersive, slowly growing on you until you’re fully drawn into this perfectly peculiar little world. At the centre is Mr. Fox — a flawed but fascinating character who loves his family deeply, yet can’t suppress his urge to steal. That tension between survival and self-destructive instinct gives the story real weight beneath the whimsy. Other characters, from the quietly complex Ash to the cool, collected Felicity, all feel distinct — their personalities textured, their arcs meaningful. The humour is dry and witty, delivered with a straight face even when things go hilariously off the rails. And despite its playful surface, the film handles some surprisingly heavy ideas — about individuality within a family, about choosing change, about knowing when to grow up. Sum up - Ultimately, Fantastic Mr. Fox stands apart not just for its stop-motion style, but for how delicately it balances absurdity and emotional truth. It’s as much a fable for adults as it is a visual treat for younger audiences. A rare animated film that’s warm, wise, and weird in all the right ways.

Are you cussing with me that you haven’t seen Fantastic Mr. Fox? This is the most perfect movie ever. If someone asked me what a perfect movie is, this would be it. Wes Anderson’s unique aesthetic shines beautifully throughout this movie. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, capturing the rich, warm tones and colors of autumn. The cinematography is fantastic, and the voice acting is superb, with extraordinary performances from George Clooney, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Meryl Streep, and Owen Wilson. The theme is deep and meaningful, focusing on identity and finding yourself. The dialogue is sharp and witty, with some lines hitting surprisingly hard and catching me off guard. The humor is zany and quirky, making me fall in love with the movie even more. The stop motion is excellent and well done, with phenomenal set design. The storytelling may be basic, telling a good vs. evil story, but it’s original because it explores relationships, friendships, and family. The soundtrack is awesome, blending licensed music and an original composed score perfectly. This movie appeals to a wide range of audiences, making it even more amazing. This movie is extremely mature, adding depth to its charm. It also means so much to me because it’s a yearly tradition that I rewatch every autumn with my mother, making it even more special. I could gush about this movie forever but I’d rather you see it for yourself. I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

This movie is special. I love the cast, I love the themes, and I especially love this story. At times it was very serious, and at times it was very funny. This was different from what I've seen before but I think its unique. But, my favorite part of the film had to be Ash's jealousy. Overall, the film was very solid. 8/10

I love this movie. One of the more entertaining kids/adult-friendly films. The mind of Wes Anderson reigns true once again as every character seems to have their own case of mental dysfunction and insecurity. The movie is about Mr. and Mrs. Fox, their family, how they live, and how it conflicts with the simple fact that they are wild animals. Some friends of mine have continuously called movies "fall" movies or "summer" movies, which I completely disagreed with at first. But after rewatching this one, I will say-- this is a fall movie. The aesthetic is so full, orange, and pleasing to the eye. The script is extremely well done, and I cannot say enough about how fun the cast is. Watch this if you haven't.

This movie is amazing. Everything fits in together so incredibly well, every character has their own vibrant personality, and every little element fits like a story book like boggis, bunce, and bean having their names on their places. This is a must watch in fact, watch it now.

Pretty much exactly how I imagined a stop-motion Wes Anderson movie to turn out. The first two acts are really clever, genuine and quirky, then the third drags on forever. Anderson pulls in his usual cast of characters (has he ever made a film without Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and / or Jason Schwartzman?) and they once again manage a miracle by perfectly fitting their new characters' skins. The new additions fare no worse. George Clooney is perfect as the slightly shady, endlessly charismatic lead, Willem Dafoe has a great cameo as one of the villains and the other performances key off their mutual energy. I rewatched Steve Zissou a few months back and enjoyed it much more on my second viewing, which is consistent with most of Anderson's films. I fully expect this one to get better with repeat viewings, too. Even bearing that in mind, it was mostly charming and entertaining as a goofball throwback to the old school. Updated thoughts after a 2018 re-watch: Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl meet in the middle for this eccentric, free-spirited interpretation of an early 1970s short story. I'll admit to not being a fan the first time I saw this, years ago, but upon a second viewing (now a parent, watching it with my kids) I think I can better appreciate it. As I've become more familiar with Mr. Dahl since that time, I found the author's calling cards more obvious, a close match for Anderson's idiosyncratic directing style and obsessive attention to detail. Stuffed with small character moments and a warm, soft pace, Fantastic Mr. Fox operates with an unusual cadence that takes time and effort to accept. The voice acting is star-studded and effective, particularly George Clooney's turn as the smooth-talking lead with a taste for one last heist, but the actors do often get caught up by the constant long-winded, dry, breathless dialogue. Many supporting players sound positively bored by that aspect. The animation fits the tone quite well, using stop-motion puppets that closely resemble a set of well-loved kids' toys, which gives the screen a familiar, welcoming atmosphere. Almost like walking through the door to your old childhood bedroom, twenty years on. It’s a worthwhile alternative to today's louder, flashier fare.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a very funny, wonderfully-looking movie with a stellar cast. First of all I love how the film portrays these animals. They live like humans, they are intelligent, but there is still a hierarchy between people and animals. The writing most likely includes some of Roald Dahl's original sentences, which were beautiful to hear, but Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach also made a very good job writing new dialogues and monologues. I haven't read the original, but this version is unbelievably funny. I don't know much about animation in general, but I know this is stop motion. The movie looks beautiful and the animation is extremely unique. Fantastic Mr. Fox is an extremely unique and funny animated movie.

this is the best underrated stop motion film by Wes Anderson. I still can't believe other reviewers judge the film by the running adult joke in the film where the characters say cuss instead of a slur, to me that's funny and adult deserve jokes.

After the movie, Disney's Robin Hood was released and before Disney's Zootopia and DreamWorks' The Bad Guys was released I watched one of the best-underrated stop motion movies that I wished that I should have watched in theatre. Fantastic Mr. Fox is absolutely the most underrated movie to watch. It was a story about a fox family who moved into a home which is tree home near three known farmers it even includes a memorable children's song chorus that "Boggis, Bunce, and Bean One fat, one short, one lean These horrible crooks So different in looks Were nonetheless equally mean"I love that song so much that I like the part that has the street war scene. And the soundtrack and song choices in the movies are absolutely splendid to hear for my ears. I absolutely love the characters in the movie itself especially Fantastic Mr. Fox which is almost like the combination of Disney's Robin Hood, Nick Wilde from Zootopia, and Mr. Wolf from Dreamworks' The Bad Guys. But I really like Christofferson. A special white fox with a lot of talent that he has which really makes Ash the son of Mr. Fox **** stop motion animation is absolutely appealing to the eyes, it's very crisp to see how good the animation is and It's amazing to see how most of the handsome, beautiful, and cute anthro characters are in the movie. Especially the white fox named Kristofferson he is such an adorable-looking character and of course, some of their animated crushes who watched this movie as a kid or a long time ago. In closing, I would absolutely one hundred percent want this movie to get a sequel. Because Fantastic Mr. Fox is absolutely "Fantastic".

It's very, very fantastic. Wes Anderson's vibes were stylish and artistic... Also, the way to convey each character's story and feelings was very good. And Wes Anderson's signature mise-en-scène was still beautiful. Wes Enderson's stop-motion animation will continue to be great!

The entire time watching this film all I could think was "who was this made for?" It clearly isn't actually for children considering the lengthy dialogue and slow, static scenery. Also replacing curse words with cuss is funny for adults for pretty inappropriate for kids. In the end, I can only surmise this film was made for adults that can accept adulthood. That being said, it's an acquired taste.

Mr. and Mrs. Fox live peacefully with their son Ash and grandson Kristofferson, their host, inside a large tree on top of the hill that faces the factories of the worst farmers in the area: Boggis, Bunce and Bean. But Mr. Fox's wild nature prevents him from finding satisfaction as a reporter and prompts him to try to fool the three men and loot their warehouses. Revenge is swift and merciless and jeopardizes not only his beloved family but all the animals in the underground. Mr Fox will therefore have to come up with a new and ingenious plan to get everyone out of the way. A fun and successful stop motion comedy about the tragicomic and sad war between animals and evil animals (humans).

For those who are looking for a 100% faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, I think they will be disappointed. Lacking the dark edge of Dahl's book and of his writing in general, Fantastic Mr Fox is not so good as an adaptation, however on its own terms it is wonderful. It is an endearing and hugely enjoyable film. One thing that stood out was how the film looked. Instead of the CGI rendered effects, Wes Anderson opts for a more old-fashioned stop-motion effect. This decision worked, because the visual look is outstanding, not just in the beautifully detailed backgrounds and sets but in how the characters move as well and the small details such as the armchair in his writing hut. I like Alexandre Desplat's music quite a bit. His score for Fantastic Mr Fox is no exception, it is quirky yet still has the minimalist style that makes Desplat stand out. The story is sometimes slow in the pace but because of the humour and how it looked, I never found the film boring, besides the story itself is so good. The writing is great, the humour is more adult but a vast majority of it is very funny with the odd touching moment too. The characters add a lot. Mr Fox is one of my favourite titular characters in a book and the film did little to change that, and while some are slightly underused they serve their purpose well. The voice work is fantastic. I wasn't sure about George Clooney, but he does do a bravura job, and Meryl Streep is quite touching. Michael Gambon is sterling, as is Bill Murray as Badger. In conclusion, hugely enjoyable and one of my personal favourites of 2009. 9/10 Bethany Cox

Wes Anderson instantly became one of my favorite directors after seeing this great animated film. His quirky style was perfect for this story, and voice-overs were outstanding. Clooney in particular was brilliant. I am a huge fan of animation and I usually don't like it when I recognize an actor's voice because I only think of the actor while watching the film, but in this case the famous actors (George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray) became the characters they voiced and were perfect. The music was also brilliant throughout. I hope Wes Anderson makes more animated films in the future. BRILLIANT!

This was a pretty charming and well animated movie. I enjoyed the acting for the most part and the story was half decent , unfortunately I think that the length of the movie was a bit too long which made it a bit boring and tedious to watch by the end. There were also some bizarre choices in regards to parts in the movie( some were awesome while others were just meh)

This movie is such a gem. It has a deep meaning and some silly scenes that are actually iconic. This is one of those types of movies that you can watch as a child and later as an adult and actually understand what was the hype about. I recommend the movie to everyone, too.

My photography class got the chance to watch this, and I actually really enjoyed it. It was the first stop motion film I have ever watched, and while I don't think it looks good, I think that's just because it looks different. The comedy is pretty good, the characters are well written, and the soundtracks pretty good too. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I liked stop motion films, but I still really enjoyed it.

Absolute classic. If you have a family, I'd say you gotta watch this with them. It's really good for the fam because it's layered. The adult can see things in the movie that the kids might not necessarily see, and it's still enjoyable for kids too. So it's great for everyone. And there's actually very good character arcs, and some life lessons to take away.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, a movie which I wasn't the biggest fan of when it came out but it's grown on me after watching it today. The movie is a great stop start animation with some amazing characters and the voice actors who play the characters do a great job with what they're given. Also, the plot for the movie is pretty good and I liked how the two brothers don't get a long during the start but you get to see their emotions with each other change throughout the movie, which I really liked. Finally, there's something very lovely about this movie which I really liked, I don't know if it's the colours which Wes Anderson's chosen for certain scenes throughout this masterpiece of a movie but I'm not completely sure. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, I loved the characters. I liked how they were different animals and they weren't all foxes but they had different types of animals throughout this movie which added a bit more to the movie's story. The movie's even got a lovely score from Alexandre Desplat which I thought worked very well throughout this movie. I'd honestly reccomend this movie if you're wanting something to watch, it's a well made movie with a great cast who give it their best, it's honestly worth the watch. Also, I never knew Rat was played by the man himself Willem Dafoe and he's also amazing throughout this movie.

I still can't find words to describe how much I love this movie. Maybe it's the lighthearted and upbeat tone that never slows down to have a forced emotional moment. Maybe it's the fun characters and how fun to watch they are and how well written they are. Maybe it's the impressive stop motion animation, shot composition, cinematography and all the visual aspects. Maybe it's just the excellent screenplay which, despite telling a lighthearted and fun story, there are some truly depressing moments underneath. I just don't know what is what I like more from this movie. I just think it's a brilliantly executed story.

From a Roald Dahl book, George Clooney does excellent voice work, the whole cast does. The stop motion animation is very well done. The script really pops along with the music, I am disappointed this lost awards to Up, which was depressing drudgery. I just love when they use cottonballs for fire extinguishers. it loses steam after the first act, when i assume Henry Sellick left for Coraline. The end is sad it seems they will be hunted all the worse.

One of my all time favourite movies. Wes Anderson transformed Dahls story into a cinematic masterpiece, in which every shot is aesthetically beautiful. Anderson’s use of mise en scene is spectacular and the balanced symmetrical camera shots combined with the stop motion animation creates an almost perfect movie. The plot is exciting and the charters all feel flushed out with well developed motives. I highly recommend that you watch this movie.

to speculate it with such nuance.. Fantastic Mr. Fox Fantastic Mr. Fox is a character driven animated comic drama about a fox that fails to act against its nature and gets into trouble along with his family. The symmetric world of Anderson never fails to delight us and the primary reason is it being brimmed with fine details that speaks volume. The work went behind the stop-motion animation is just marvelous especially to pull it off on such large scale and to speculate it with such nuance that it leaves the audience in an awe of it. The acts distributed in here and the way they shift from one to another is bizarrely ingenious and extremely powerful. It is eerily fast paced yet aptly cooked characters that offers enough depth for the viewers to dig in and explore. The writing is sharp, to- the-point and explicit with tiny tactics installed in here that not only is infomercial but hilarious too. Such dysfunctional family might have been familiar to the audience but with a perspective like this, the clock starts from zero. It is rich on technical aspects like its up beating background score, amazing songs, metaphorical cinematography and fine editing that paints the picture brighter. The voice cast fills in perfectly in this wild world and has done a hilarious work especially by Clooney, Streep, Murray and Wilson. Anderson's strong script matches its brilliant execution where you know that you have surrendered to his surreal world when he draws out emotions from these characters and pours it like rain over the audience. The three dimensional characters, satirical humor, moral conflicts and thought provoking policy that is genuinely effective are the high points of the feature. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a forced to be reckoned with, that not only shows potential in such animation but also the structure of the script.

This was definitely Wes Anderson's comeback hit, and the argument can be made that this is Wes Anderson's best movie. The animation is great and only serves to heighten Wes Anderson's quirky and unique style. It's charming, heartwarming, and funny. Best of all, it's fun for the whole family, as there is no CUSS-ing in this flick!

After 12 years of bucolic bliss, Mr. Fox (George Clooney) breaks a promise to his wife (Meryl Streep) and raids the farms of their human neighbors, Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Giving in to his animal instincts endangers not only his marriage but also the lives of his family and their animal friends. When the farmers force Mr. Fox and company deep underground, he has to resort to his natural craftiness to rise above the opposition. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a delightfully funny feast for the eyes with multi-generational appeal -- and it shows Wes Anderson has a knack for animation. I give Fantastic Mr. Fox an A+.
