Clash of the Titans is a grand and glorious romantic adventure, filled with grave heroes, beautiful heroines, fearsome monsters, and awe-inspiring duels to the death. It is a lot of fun.

These fantastical He-Man epics were common in the early ’80s (Legend, Conan the Barbarian, and The Beastmaster were all variations of the same theme), and while Clash of the Titans remains one of the genre’s homelier entries, there’s no faulting a film this lovingly and aptly arcane.

It's a well told adventure. If Starwars which came out in 1977 was a 10, then this is 9. It matches Starwars in story, effects, action-tension, and script. The characters are also wonderful but, its hard to compete with Han Solo; but the Stygian witches, wise man, princess,Perseus, owl, various Gods, various villains, are very convincing for such a large cast, and the tension when fighting the various unique villains is nail-biting.

'Clash of the Titans' is not meant to be taken seriously nor intellectually. It is purely a Fantasy flick through and through where you do not question what it does and why it does it. All you need to know is that it is loosely based on famous myths and legends that continue to be passed down and told through popular media time and time again. If you take my advice above, then 'Clash of the Titans' is a very entertaining adventure that will appeal to the kid in all of us. I must also compliment the practical special effects master, Ray Harryhausen, as he bows out in impressive style. The animation on Medusa alone is enough to make me sick to my stomach. No, not from the scary presence of the ancient monster, but from seeing how each of her snakes are painstakingly animated individually. The attention to detail put into many of the special effects is quite a spectacle to witness considering they were done 37 years ago. Get ready everyone for a classic sword, shield, and spells time!

Clash of the Titans is profligate in its use of talented people who are not particularly at home in this sort of film, though they all pay serious attention to their work.

Never as spectacular as it promises, often funnier than it intends, Clash of the Titans is a harmless diversion - neither bad enough to annoy nor good enough to admire. [15 June 1981]

The A.V. Club
Titans forces all aspects of the movie except the spectacle into the background, and historical accuracy isn't much of a concern. It does feature a better-than-average cast, however, aside from uncharismatic star Harry Hamlin.

In the end, the virgin Andromeda (Judi Bowker) is chained to a cliff as a sacrifice to the sea dragon Kraken, while Perseus gallops to the rescue. If you are a small child, you may care what happens. If you are of age, you will have long since slipped off for a stiff drink. [06 July 1981, p.75]

Clash of the Titans is an unbearable bore that will probably put to sleep the few adults stuck taking the kids to it. Desmond Davis directs with a tired hand, not helped much by the lackadaisical writing.

I was raised on this film. I always thought it was so cool. Revisiting it so many years later I think I even appreciate it more. Besides the amazing effects the movie is unique and entertaining in the way it tells its story. It's been overly copied at this point from young adult series Percy Jackson which are pretty good to the abysmal reimaginings. Handsome Harry Hamlin stars as our hero as he battles everything from skeletons to giant scorpions, the kraken and most impressively Medusa. The movie is exciting and still holds up if a little cheesy.

Fun little romp, some great sarts, a cute and distracting movie. The effects seem a bit long in the tooth now but there's some of the biggest stars on Mt. Olympus for you to admire.

Hard to give 'Clash of the Titans' a higher note than 6/10 given how cheesy it is.I'll start with the best: the plot and story are amazing, it is really interesting to see how Perseus fuses into new adventures existing before him. His quests are great and are well-brought to the screen as the film schowcases many mythological creatures, heroes and divinities. Fortunately, the links between characters are interesting, but lacks a bit of depth, notably between Perseus and Andromeda or between Perseus and Ammon. It is a shame that Perseus becomes so easily over-powered in comparison to his opponents.Opponents are one of the flaws of the movie: they are so easily defeated, a single short action scene and they are dead. Add this with the fact that every other scene is soooooo slow! I had to speed them up to 200% just to get into the main battle; nothing happens on screen! This is just **** other major flaw is the quality of special effects. Obviously you have to work with the modern tools but here, it is just too much. I mean the comparisons with 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' that came out the same year are effortless. How can you miss that much? Every inlay scene is a true pain to behold and totally breaks the immersion. Make-ups are barely okay.

A reasonably good Greek mythology movie with good practical effects and okay acting though the story has issues.

It's a pretty slow-paced movie that doesn't really do much to capture your interest. They tried too hard to make this film seem like Jason and the Argonauts rather than making it it's own original thing. For a movie made in the 80s, I expected a much better blend of real-life/stop motion animation than what it was.
