I imagine Rosemary’s Baby purists will be upset with the various references and connections Apartment 7A makes to the first film, a few of which are clumsy, but nothing was egregious enough to trip me up—including the final sequence, once again involving dance, which I found to be rather brilliant.

Were it not for the concrete that is Julia Garner’s take on the lead, “Apartment 7A” could unquestionably spiral into indistinguishable obscurity, but even amidst cliché after cliché, it still manages to fulfill minimum requirements within the pantheon that is Horror 101.

I know the original B&W Rosemary’s Baby film was a big hit, although I was never a huge fan. This take on the story was a bit better and it’s always nice to see Dianne Wiest! The story itself is a bit boring and drawn out that’s all. Kudos to the visual department.

This movie was a stunning visual display with a deeper look into the background surrounding how young women were drawn into the apartment's dynamics and what sets them up for the priming with consideration to the owners' end goals. It's shocking, stunning and heart breaking but gives a great cinematic experience that is thoroughly enjoyable if you are someone who finds mystery and suspense appealing along with delvings of the occult.

It’s not so much a prequel as it is a parallel story that continues underscoring the limited autonomy of women. Restrictive social mores trap both Rosemary and Terry, albeit in different ways.

What ensues is the exact same thing that happened to Mia Farrow’s wife, except minus the creepy surprise and, thus, any reason to pay attention.

The film does so little work to make me care about the girl that came before Rosemary that I simply found myself wondering how she was going to die to properly set up the events of the original.

Think of all the ways “Apartment 7A” could have slyly addressed these times, or, conversely, more fully explored the practices of the Castavets’ cult. Instead, it's just a retread, and that’s why it’s bad. The devil is in the details.

Apartment 7A's biggest drawback is that we already know what will happen, and the film fails to add anything new. Julia Garner is an exquisite actress, someone I wish to see more of. Her presence manages to carry a film whose ending is already evident.

The prequel to 'Rosemary's Baby' feels like they remade Polanski's classic, but now incorporating scenes from 'Black Swan' and 'Suspiria.' There's zero tension and it's got nothing to add. Sometimes it feels more like an episode of 'American Horror Story.'
