The Thaumaturge is a well-written narrative adventure with an excellent setting. Its mechanics, borrowed from RPGs, are not overly complex, but contribute to the quality of the experience.
The Thaumaturge is a supernatural detective with good dialogs, strong characters, and a fun battle system.
At times RPG and at times adventure game, The Thaumaturge is a blend of different flavors that offers a multilayered experience. Certainly a peculiar game that learned to love through its unique personality. [Recommended]

Play the demo, before buying it. The combat mechanic is badly implemented, game is repetitive and quests are not interesting enough. Try to not sleep playing this game. Maybe it's a game for Rasputin fans.

the thaumaturge is not a regular game you find daily on console and pc platfroms, but is merely a living novel and that is how it was supposed to be seen at the first place. i believe the ratings given esp by the critics are unfair as they evaluate the greatness of game with a whole different genre to the common games which are mostly focused on gameplay comparing to the thaumaturge. if you are looking for a game where story and lore matters in a gray tsarist world then this is your game but if you are looking for a dopamine stash filled with flashy movements and fast gameplay this is not your game as simply it was not designed to be that at the first place. so to the critics, i would like to say that you must learn to evaluate a game based on its purpose and how it lives up to it rather than setting an stereotype for a good game and rate every video game based on that single standard!

what a beautiful game! besides the awesome plot, the beautiful aesthetics/graphics/music, the very interesting fight-gameplay, the possible choices you could make to affect the ending, what was really a nice touch was the advertisement of polish culture//history through the years at a period when history really took a dark turn (early 20th century) through the game collectibles and side-quests. Absolute gem! -yes, the fights might turn just a bit repeating after some time, but ok, the game is not thaaat long, so i did not find it irritating.

The Thaumaturge's gritty, demon-taming take on the monster collecting genre is a welcome twist. Taking place in 1905 Poland, there is certainly some language and actions in the game that can feel uncomfortable, but it all works with the overarching theme of struggling with mental health and personal flaws. Despite the sensitive nature of the story, Fool's Theory does well to not over sensationalize traumatic story beats. Gameplay is simple and engaging, and the combat is easy to learn but can be challenging on higher difficulties.

The Thaumaturge is a story game through and through, a game that has the thrilling power of a Netflix series, but in which you can play as yourself. Only the fighting is hardly worth mentioning.

The Thaumaturge is the best game I've discovered this year. After finishing it, I felt a void and couldn't stick with any other title for a while.Have you tried our Polish game? We play as Wiktor Szulski - a Thaumaturge who sees and feels more than others. Just by touching an object, he can sense the emotions and thoughts of the person who previously held it. We pursue salutors, which are otherworldly beings that cling to human flaws and weaknesses, magnify them, and cause turmoil in the given society or group. Pros: + The atmosphere of the game, set in Warsaw in 1905, playing as a Pole+ We meet historical figures like Rasputin + The plot and dialogues, relationships between the characters. + Multiple different endings, depending on our choices during the game. + The skill tree, which consists of heart, mind, action, and word - we use these in conversations, battles, and finding clues. + Great turn-based combat, we attack with Wiktor and the salutors, creating our "deck" of attacks. The abilities impose various negative effects and are interdependent; if we strategize well, even battles on the hardest difficulty level will be almost effortless - I played on the highest level. + The ability to change the character's appearance - barber and tailor.+ Humor - the poet Abaurycy is my crush <3 + The appearance of the salutors, graphics, and the detailed environment. + Vividly portrayed scent of Rasputin, nothing else from this game will stick with me as much as that Cons:- The environment loaded in front of my eyes - first Wiktor, then everything else. - No Polish dubbing at launch, although polish names "Grażynka" and "SATAnisław" mixed into English sounded funny - I'm waiting for the dubbing and will definitely play it again <3 - Despite the city being lively, I didn't feel it. The populace always stood in the same places and said the same things, often even different residents had the same speech bubbles over their heads, and I could run through them. These cons did not detract from my enjoyment of the game at all. I fell into this world and got lost in it, playing for several hours daily, nerding out like I hadn't in a long time. Some might also dislike that there's a lot of walking from place to place - this only bothered me when it came to collectibles because, for example, when I went to a dance lesson, I really wanted to see Wiktor dance but got only a sketched postcard instead :D 9.47/10.

The Thaumaturge successfully delivers a weird and surprising RPG that is filled to the brim with narrative. Whether you’re chasing down demons, or manipulating the minds of the socially elite, you’ll feel the power of the Thaumaturge. With its complex turn-based combat and choice consequence system, there are plenty of opportunities for replayability.

But Why Tho?
The Thaumaturge presents a fantastical look into history and allows players to take the wheel. With supernatural creatures, investigations spanning whole neighborhoods, and solid voice acting, there’s a lot to enjoy. It doesn’t get everything right, but it does provide enough depth and creativity to take the journey once or twice.

The Thaumaturge immerses players in a rich urban fantasy set in pre-World War I Warsaw, offering a blend of RPG and detective elements through the eyes of Wiktor Szulski, a mystic with the power to uncover hidden truths. With a story that weaves together political intrigue, historical figures like Grigori Rasputin, and supernatural themes, the game stands out for its detailed world-building and complex mechanics of puzzle-solving, stealth, and combat. Despite its deep narrative and unique gameplay, the game occasionally suffers from overly guided investigations and uneven combat pacing. However, its compelling setting and innovative use of Thaumaturgy ensure a captivating experience, even as some narrative and gameplay aspects feel underdeveloped.

Lurking behind a dated exterior is a limited but sophisticated RPG with a unique setting and some memorable new ideas.

The Thaumaturge is another example of a game whose developers had a good concept in hand, but failed to bring it to fruition. Diving into the world of semi-alternative Russian Empire and Polish nationalists turned out to be an entertaining (albeit specific) experience, which was spoiled by unsuccessful implementation of progression and battles, as well as poor work with Unreal Engine 5.

Sweet story and cool gameplay makes a very good product, at least in my opinion. And this fantastic atmosphere...

Interesting narrative, but the gameplay sours and turns pretty bland, full of one-note combat and exploration. Historical period pieces like this might hit harder if you're familiar with the era's history, which I am certainly not. But hey, it does feature Ra-Ra-Rasputin, lover of the Russian scene, so there's that.

A great historical fan-fiction, showing how colorful and culturally independend Poland was during the Tzar reign. Interesting characters, Persona-like gameplay and unorthodox world building might take the gaming crown if it would be just a little more polished.

Even with a compelling story, even with a well-crafted setting, even with an interesting protagonist, my score is zero. Why? Because of that **** **** turn-based combat, devoid of any logical sense. The protagonist can't protect himself from gunfire, can't shield himself from blows or stabs, because of turn-based combat, so you have to endure countless bullets, slashes, punches, and gradually lose life points. When your turn comes, you only have one possible action: die, just die. How entertaining! And for even more entertainment, start over! Yeah, how fun! The whole **** fight again. So entertaining. This is all utter nonsense.
