Very short game with no replay value. Don’t buy, get it from a friend or just use a subscription to finish it in an afternoon.

Many goods ideas with a 2D and 3D Gameplay, in and out the book. I played with a strong difficult for a good challenge.

Ehh I went in expecting/hoping for more of a mario odyssey type platformer to be completely disappointed. It's more kill all the monsters then go to the next page and do the same again. They break it up with added puzzles and the puzzles are terribly dull. I completely zoned out with the story as it is just your common stop the big bad villain and has nothing interesting but I'm sure some will find it cute and charming I dunno and the graphics and music is nice too.
It runs fine and had no performance issues or bugs.

Great game in general, would rate it higher if there was no frame drop in the 3d world. Too easy, too childish

I didn't expect much from this game but I was pleasantly surprised. Although the story is very kid-oriented and linear, it is nicely told and even has an interesting twist at the end. I admire the smooth switch from 2D to 3D which should inspire many other games.

Lovely game, very friendly with kids that want to start gaming. And you can play it in challenge difficulty if you are older.

Plucky Squire – A Well-Timed Indie Adventure For me, this game arrived at just the right moment. It’s far from ordinary, filled with creative and unusual puzzle solutions that work surprisingly well within its storybook world. The combat system is rather simple and somewhat outdated, which won’t suit everyone’s taste. However, this approach was exactly what I needed, so I may be a bit biased, but honestly, this experience has given me a lot. I rarely come across games that pack so many great ideas so seamlessly. Thanks to its storybook setting, I never felt overwhelmed or puzzled by the game’s challenges—I just went with the flow, and what a refreshing feeling that was. Every time I thought they had run out of ideas, something new or an extra twist came along to revive the excitement and keep things fresh. I especially appreciate that the developers didn’t drag the game beyond its natural length; the story was wrapped up at just the right time. To mention a minor downside, I played on the hardest difficulty. Although it rarely posed a huge challenge, making mistakes during combat or platform sections often sent me frustratingly back to the last checkpoint. The save system felt a bit harsh, and I think a manual save option or a more forgiving checkpoint system would have been welcome. While the final boss fights can be skipped, I wouldn’t recommend it because they offer plenty of thrilling moments. The final boss battle felt a bit lazy, mostly recycling previous bosses with new masks. Still, this does not detract from the game’s value, and I’m confident the team could have crafted even more creative solutions. The atmosphere completely drew me in. Some might not enjoy the childlike world in which the game takes place, but I can’t imagine a more fitting atmosphere for this title. The game is incredibly versatile, constantly revealing new facets. It feels both like a children’s game and something much more complex and layered. Whether a parent or a younger player sits down to play, both can enjoy the nostalgic, charming world filled with elements reminiscent of childhood. I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone open to experiencing a well-crafted indie title. Its price (30 euros) might seem steep to some, but in quality and creativity, it certainly justifies that cost. Plus, it’s often available at a discount, making it even more appealing.

I'm convinced the high marks this game has received are based solely on the art style (which is admittedly super cute). The aesthetics are lovely, but the gameplay doesn't live up to the looks. What you're getting is a clunky, substandard Zeldalike with a smattering of mini-games (ranging from okay to frustrating, though you at least have the option to skip them) and some very light puzzle solving. The most frustrating aspects for me were the linearity (no exploration at all, just go here, then go there) and the incessant text boxes. You get maybe two minutes of gameplay in between text and cut scenes, so there's no opportunity to really get into sort of rhythm. Yeah, it's trying to tell a story, but I eventually got to a point where I was mashing buttons to get through conversations as quickly as possible because I was tired of not actually playing a game. There was potential here with the whole storybook and 2D/3D thing, but nah.

Incredibly inventive while making the most of its storybook premise. It would be a perfect score if not for the v-sync issues prevalent throughout the entire game.

Some great gameplay design ideas but lots of clunky, unresponsive minigames can be quite frustrating. Lack of ability to skip cutscenes or restart minigames added to this frustration for me leading to this being another Devolver game that was fun for a while but I left unfinished

When I first watched the trailer for this game, it really caught my attention. However, when I played it, I realized it wasn't as good as it seemed. The 3D parts are quite lacking, with subpar graphics and **** characters' names also bothered me a lot, like Barbaluar, Barbinha, and Enfezaldo. They sound ridiculous, and I’m not sure if this impression comes from poor translation or if it’s the same in the game’s original **** minigames, unfortunately, are repetitive and lose their appeal quickly. The only one I found truly enjoyable is the boxing minigame, which appears at the start of the game.Aside from these issues, the 2D portion of the game, which takes place inside a book, is very well done. It has a unique charm and successfully captures the feeling of exploring the pages of an interactive story.Overall, I found the game too childish, which isn’t inherently a bad thing, but it didn’t work for me. Moreover, some children might struggle with the minigames, which could make the experience frustrating for its target audience.

The Plucky Squire is visually stunning and the central concept is a novel idea, but the combat and puzzles are ultimately not satisfying enough to support the 8-10 hour playtime.

I enjoyed this game. May be a bit short, and a bit repetitive, but it has a good heart, good pace, entertaining story-telling, and had me playing it gradly.

This game is pretty genius and certainly quite unique with what it does. It doesn't exceed in anything in particular, the combat and platforming is pretty basic and not all that challenging for sure. What it does well though is the ideas that it brings and the way that it combines it's unique elements in a beautiful way. The narrative is interesting and the overall design is very well done and it really is a good looking ****'s never going to touch indie games that are focusing on excellent platforming or combat but it always be better when it comes to the overall experience and journey that it ****'s not exactly a masterpiece but it is a beautiful little experience that most gamers would appreciate in one way or the other.

A very easy and well meaning adventure game, the story, structure, writing, and gameplay is repetitive. I enjoyed my time with it but it spends more time talking to and hand holding the player than letting them enjoy the world.

There's a lot to love about the game and I really liked the art style. The concept of 2D to 3D jump was a wonderful idea and the game mechanics themselves have a ton of creative promise. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite live up to it's potential with shocking glitches and bugs, clunky combat, and a few contrived areas, puzzles. I would generally recommend the experience since the value for money is fair enough but it doesn't hit the marks I was hoping for. I also expected a game that would work with local co-op but alas, the single-player only structure felt like it stunted the narrative potential of the experience.

Great little fun game. If the writing and story telling didn't take so astronomically long, it really ruins the whole vibe and flow of the game. Why stop the player from playing to extensively long drawn out story parts. Typed out slowly and read out loud even slower. Long pauses between everything konda ruin the whole experience and make it impossible to finish in 1 sitting without falling asleep. Good game though speed it up huh?

PROS: Super original + Great graphics + 2D/3D change is a great idea + Puzzles with and without words + Minigames are varied and very cool + Upgrade system + Very fun to play CONS: maybe it's too easy but so fun to play!

I think my problem with this game comes down to my expectations. When I saw that reveal trailer I fell in love, so deeply that I forgot that this was goingto be an Indie developer first game. The game is full of great ideas (the book gravity use, different boss mechanics and visual changes, etc) and surprises, but all kinda shallow, I think its biggest problem is its rhythm, sometimes it goes 30 seconds of gameplay and it stops for a dialogue, and repeat and repeat. It became a great foundation to a possible sequel, but not good enough to shine in this instance. Nonetheless it is still a pleasant experience, a great game to introduce children to the world of videogames.

Good concept, bad execution. Infuriating flow, the game keeps interrupting you for bad dialogue and unskipable "cutscenes" (for example, a door opening) almost every 5 seconds. The game is laughably easy, both combat and puzzles. I was dying to end it by chapter 6, it just felt so cumbersome to play, there's probably like 30% overhead of not actually playing in the playtime. Not to mention the bugs in this game which made me quit to main menu and restart a chapter multiple times throughout the playthrough. I don't get the praise for this game, it's extremely mediocre.

A horrible buggy mess. This game has potential to be maybe a 6 or 7, but there are so many game breaking **** one point, I had to wait for a **** another spot, I had to try 5 or 6 times before I could avoid a bug that had me floating away to a much later section of the **** a third spot, I had to reload an old save to avoid a bug. Unfortunately, this reset all the **** collectibles are a very big problem if you're a trophy hunter. If you miss any (which is very likely because a bug will force you to reload, which causes another bug that resets the counter on some collectibles), you will be forced to replay to get them. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell which collectibles are no longer counted, and chapter replay doesn't count them anyway, so you're stuck replaying the whole game. When the game works, it's ok. It definitely overstays its welcome with very long unskippable slow text cut scenes. It goes on and on at the end.Combat is quite boring. Some mini games are horrendously bad. For example there are two rhythm mini game that plays as if it was developed by somebody who has never actually heard music before.Generally avoid this game if you **** you want to play it, wait a few months for them to sort out all the issues.

While I think it did skew a little lighter than I was hoping for, and even though I don't think it quite grasped the creativity in puzzles that it could have done, it's homely and wholesome and left me with a huge grin on my face! Recommend.

It is a nice creative game. At the start I was amazed how 2D and 3D idea was **** some reason the core gameplay doesn't catch up in continuity. Gameplay is just lacking of challenge and gets stale quickly. Hopefullywe get continuation with more polished gameplay. Story is just beautiful.

Its a very cute and unique game. the mechanic of real world and book world is cool and a new spin on the genre. its definitely not supposed to be a hard game so anyone who complains about that just does not understand the game. one thing to point out is that the jump button is almost useless in the story book sections. invisible walls just to force a puzzle.

The game was pretty fun, and had minimal bugs for a game of it's type, but it is definitely geared for a younger audience, which makes sense for it's storybook aesthetic. If you don't like that, this game might annoy you too much to enjoy. It is chapter based, not open world that I thought it would be. Normally this would be preferable, but I think this game could have benefitted from being open world. Just having some more complexity would have been better for people like me

Great little game for what it is and that's a quick, fun, 5 to 10 hour platformer with lots of style and a charming story. It's perfect for a long flight or something to play over the weekend and relax. I'd strongly recommend this game to anyone with small children. Though, as an adult I also found it quite enjoyable. Don't come into this expecting Baldur's Gate 3. Combat and puzzles are all pretty basic and I could see that being a negative to some looking for more of a challenge. I did appreciate the various mini games that were throwbacks to games like Punch Out, Bust-A-Move, and others. I kind of wish that the 2D and 3D stuff played a little more together than it does, but I can understand the obvious developmental challenges in that. All in all, a very solid debut effort from Studio All Possible Futures. I'd love to see a sequel that expanded on what they've built here and maybe went a little deeper with the gameplay.

The trailers had me wanting to play but the game itself doesn't live up to the hype. The puzzle solving by jumping from 2D to 3D is fun, but the combat and especially the mini-games are not. Also, it's a bit too quirky and cutesy and referential for my tastes. I was rolling my eyes and bored more than I was excited to continue.

The Plucky Squire is a game that grabs onto your hand and never lets go. Simple at-best combat, lackluster optimization, and linear puzzle design made this game a bit of a chore to play.Specifically on switch, I had entire NPCs not load into maps, causing all of their dialogue to go missing as well (good luck me), as well as near constant lag in the 3D sections. This game does get some points for having a unique idea and the storybook aesthetic is fun for a few hours, but ultimately I would recommend passing on this title unless you are fine with NPCs celebrating your every move (and creating a dialogue box in the process!)

Almost every major moment of the game was undercut by a glitch. Including a glitch in the final battle that made me skip a portion (it was classified as a “mini-game” so it was skippable) and I had to go back and watch it on YouTube afterwards. The chapter select mode is completely broken with shops not appearing and some collectibles not counting towards progress so if you are a completionist you must play this game with a guide to complete it in one playthrough. ~60% of the game feels like a tutorial, it is a lot more fun after these chapters but the premise and mechanics aren’t explored to their potential. The gameplay is constantly interrupted with dialogue text boxes which results in a very stilted feeling. There is also an issue with shadows and texture pop-in, which is not the largest issue but it happens so regularly it becomes annoying.
