The Invincible is a slow-paced, narrative driven sci-fi adventure game based on a novel of the same name. Developed by Starward Industries and published by 11 Bit Studios. You’ll be drawn into the stunning alien world and feel nostalgic for those old sci-fi movies when you see the retro-futuristic aesthetic.

The Invincible is a successful experiment in bringing a novel to life via the medium of gaming. With compelling dialogue and meaningful narrative, it’s an adventure in every sense of the word, as you trek across a beautiful planet to uncover its mysteries.

There are plenty of moments in the game that are downright frustrating, such as the low movement speed, navigational ambiguity, minimal interactivity, and a certain tediousness with which the story unfolds. [Issue#332]

Very good and interesting scifi-story, couldn't stop playing this game till the end! Many possible endings. Gameplay is quite basic, but fitting for the walking simulator genre. Nice graphics, with some performance problems mid-game due to heavy VRAM-Usage, even on medium textures settings.

A fairly enjoyable walking simulator for its simplicity, thanks to its beautiful setting and storyline. There are some performance issues that, while not bothersome, need to be fixed!

What a truly fantastic game. The world looks amazing. The story is fantastic. I purchased the book it’s based on straight after and I’m currently waiting to get back into that fantastic world that was created. Best game I’ve played in years.

You may dislike walking sims, you may have never heard of Stanisław Lem or you don’t care for his books. In all those cases The Invincible extends a hand to you. Firstly, it tries to vary the gameplay as much as possible. Secondly, it doesn’t require knowledge of the novel it draws from. Thirdly, it makes Lem’s hard sci-fi accessible even for people who are not fond of his work. Above all, The Invincible is a neatly told story, suspenseful till the very end and supported by an absolutely brilliant soundtrack.

Seems like the industry critics only like big games by big developers, this game is breathtaking, yet entertaining, the graphics are superb and the story is very well written, love it!

Science fiction lovers should not miss this game. The narrative of the game is very interesting. Both this game and Stanislaw Lem's The Invincible novel are two very good works. You will regret to not play earlier.

The Invincible successfully delivers an incredibly unique and immersive sci-fi narrative based on this iconic IP. What starts as a simple rescue mission evolves into a philosophical exploration of human relationships with technology and evolution. While some NPC dialogue and confusing mission objectives detract from the immersion, I would still recommend The Invincible as a must-play game for any fan of sci-fi and narrative adventures.

Like any good walking simulator, The Invincible thrives on its story. Even though it feels similar to what the book already touches on, the differences are enough to make the game feel new and somewhat fresh, considering how many people may be approaching the game without prior knowledge of the novel. The decision to go with a walking simulator works as far as being able to effectively deliver the story, and it pays off with a gripping narrative, but some of the dialogue sections can run longer than expected. If you can live with some of the bugs that still need ironing out, you'll find this to be a fascinating experience that's well worth checking out if you're a genre fan.

Even with a few technical hiccups, checkpoint woes, and a sense that maybe going this big with such an intimate game wasn’t the best choice, The Invincible is an enjoyable experience. The Invincible is a '60s sci-fi novel brought to life that is best suited for those who love to get nerdy about hard science and love that retro sci-fi aesthetic. More casual fans will likely find plenty to enjoy with the game, but they should know that this a game about getting immersed in a world that wants to tell a story instead of the usual space-faring adventure shtick. When The Invincible gets its hooks in players, it can be a narrative experience that is thrilling, thought-provoking, and worth the ride.

The Invincible is a spectacular adaptation of Stanisław Lem's book, but it's limited in terms of what you can do in it, and the impact on the story you have.

There’s an enjoyable narrative to unravel here, if you’re willing to put up with outdated systems and monotonous traversal. But given its short run time and lack of replay value, for the price of admission, you may be better off waiting for a steep sale or even just buying the book.

I would recommend this work as it provides an immersive experience of being in an alien world. However, a drawback is that the plot is quite short, and there's no epilogue, which is unfortunate.

Despite reading reviews I was hopeful for this game, but it left me unsatisfied. The visuals are good (though not as 'atompunk' as you'd be led to believe). The characters and voice acting are top notch, and I really did like the protagonist. The general concept was good, but it feels held back by being a sort of prequel to the novel. There's a sense of anticipation throughout the game about many things that just never pays off. It's often billed as a suspense or thriller but doesn't provide these emotions in any significant way. There's a disconnect between what the game clearly wants you to feel and what it engenders in the player. For example, at one point the protagonist says something to the effect of "I'm beginning to think the things we believe aren't real," but there's nothing that has happened in the game to earn that sentiment. The game acts like it messes with your mind, but it really doesn't. I get the sense that the creators did not want to spoil the novel (or were hampered by ensuring the game lines up with it), and the game suffers for it.Gameplay itself is fine, nothing special. It's fun to explore a planet like this, but there are a lot of limitations on where you can go and what you can do. It would be nice if more things actually happened, or if the revelations were as significant as the game suggests. And while I liked the dialogue between Yasna and Novik, it was also very hand-holdy. I don't regret playing, and if you can get it for cheap it's worth a go. Just don't expect too much.

Nice. Neat. Good. Story rich. Encourages to read the book. However, it is not a storybook. There could be more stuff related to the conclusion or choice making. More lore.

Since the game is space themed, I think you need a NASA computer to play the game smoothly. Although it shows 60 FPS on Ultra, there are constant stutters and freezes, and the loading screens in the game take too long. Opening FSR 2.2 does nothing. I can't say much about the story because I haven't finished the game yet, but so far I find it confusing. The dialogs of the characters are weird and they use terms that are not understandable. On the gameplay side, the pacing is very slow and full of interactions that feel like a chore. I'll update the score if I can finish it, but to be honest, I'm more likely to give up halfway through because the optimization is so bad and I'm not going to bother changing the review. This game is not that necessary to play and you won't lose much. Instead of playing The Invincible, you can watch it in a sci-fi and space themed movie. The game uses an old engine like Unreal Engine 4. When it was first released, I waited about 8 months because I expected the optimization to be problematic. However, it is not acceptable that months and dozens of updates later, it is still not optimized. I only gave this score for the atmosphere, which looks beautiful. Nowadays, I can't come across a game that doesn't have problems. Game developers especially have completely stopped optimizing and I'm tired of seeing games like this.

The most boring game I've played in a long while. 100% linear, basically zero gameplay aside from walking and occasionally pressing A to make the protagonist utter some obvious and uninteresting comments. I haven't read The Invincible, but I have read numerous other Lem books and can assure you that none of them are this boring, not even remotely. The visuals are nice, but they sorely lack variety, and you grow tired of seeing the same sandy rocks after ten minutes. The only two good things I can say about the game are that it is very well optimized (stable 60 FPS on high settings even on my obsolete PC) and that it has a great, intuitive control scheme. That's about it for the positives. Overall, I'd much rather play The Solus Project again, which has far more atmosphere, actual gameplay, you can go wherever you want, and there's much more visual variety.
SummaryThe Invincible is a first-person Sci-Fi thriller set in a retro-future timeline. Waking up as a space scientist on a hostile planet, you embark on a mysterious mission to find the missing crew of your spaceship. Survival is a matter of your correct choices, taken whilst uncovering the secrets of the planet, bigger than anyone thought. ... Read More
