The graphics are flawless. Super-smooth, fast, seamless environments stretch on as far as the eye can see. While the GameCube should easily be able to do this, it's the frenetic pace that makes it most impressive.

Despite the messy structure, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is still up there with the best of them, knocking most of the competition for six. And that's what counts. [GamesMaster Magazine]
If you’ve played or owned the Dreamcast version though, there isn’t much new to do.

Sonic Battle is frequently celebrated as one of the most unique and ambitious spin-offs in the franchise, offering a surprisingly deep experience for a Game Boy Advance title. At its core, the game departs from traditional platforming to deliver a fast-paced, isometric 3D arena fighter that feels like a portable blend of Power Stone and Super Smash Bros. The combat is snappy and accessible, utilizing a simple control scheme that remains satisfying thanks to the "Ichikoro" gauge, which allows for tactical instant KOs once fully charged. Visually, the game is a standout for the era, featuring a distinct, edgy art style and fluid character animations that push the handheld's hardware to its limits. The true heart of the experience lies in its narrative and the "Build-A-Bot" customization of the main character, Emerl. The story is widely regarded as one of the most emotional and well-developed plots in the Sonic canon, moving beyond the typical hero-versus-villain tropes to explore themes of identity and friendship through different character perspectives. As you progress, Emerl learns and mimics the moves of the rest of the cast, allowing you to create a completely bespoke fighting style by mixing and matching various ground, air, and special attacks. This level of personalization, combined with a stellar soundtrack and robust multiplayer options, makes Sonic Battle a cult classic that remains a high point for the series on handheld platforms.

The way the Advance interacts with the Cube is flawless, and if you have Sonic Advance (and we recommend you pick it up), it's a nice touch, with lots of promise for future games.

Blazes across your screen with incredible graphics, addictive gameplay, and deep play options. Sure, it's not flawless, but it's definitely worth playing.

Aside from the camera-angle blemish, Sonic 2 for the Gamecube is still loads of fun.

Sonic and Shadow's levels are great, but every one else's levels are, unfortunately, dull. In the end, 1/3rd of the main game is great but hampered by camera and some control issues.

While it has its moments, its lack of refinement makes playing it a disjointed and frustrating experience.

I can't help wondering how it would have turned out had it been developed originally for GC. [Mar 2002, p.51]

Although the two-player mode is entertaining, there's not enough variety to keep you going for long, and the quibbles with the camera and the music are the icing on an unsatisfying cake. Avoid.

Sonics and Shadows levels are a bit good they are pretty epic and have alot of cool stuff to like but they are to **** mech and treassure hunting levels are just **** mech stages are extremely underwhelming because of how automatic and linear they are but theyre still good compared to the treassure hunting stages wich are just **** Emerald tracker from SA1 got changed now it only tracks 1 emerald until you find that emerald,at firat this might seem like a difficulty increase but in reality it just makes the process much longwr in a really bad **** size of the levels also is much bigger wich again seems like a difficulty increase but it just makes everything much more **** time i traveled through a level for 15 minutes straight because i couldnt find the last emerald wich was hidden at a very specifc spot in a GIANT level no seriously the space one is so big. This might seem like a skill issue at first but the gameplay is just checking a very single corner **** map until you suddenly get a signal but gameplay like this dorsnt work on maps this big. Luckily you could choose wich character to play.... well you could do that in SA1.SA2 combines all hero stages and all dark stages into 2 parts. This decision is just AWFUL it COMPLETELY ruins **** playing a sonic stage having fun then theres a sick story cutscene im finnaly exited AWESOME RIGHT?WELL THE GAME COMPLETELY THROWS THAT OUT OF THE WINDOW AND SENDS METO A KNUCKLES STAGE WICH IS COMPLETELY SEPERATED FROM THE MAIN STORY.That level is EXTREMELY tedious and takes DECADES and once im finnaly done im completely tired and not invested in the story anymore this could have been COMPLETELY avoided if they just atleast sperated knuckles story wich has nothing to do with the other storys the majority of the **** the stories were seperated you could play the sonic/shadow playstyle having tons of fun because nothing is interupting you but sadly youre forced to play atleast 2(that never happens because the balancing is also terrible you play 2 stages and then have to suffer through 4 knuckles/tails stages one time and shadow doesnt even fill 1/3 of the dark story) bad stages after every sonic/level.This game had some good sonic and shadow levels wich dont even fill 1/3 of the game that arent extremely good and the rest is just unenjoyable.

Horribly overrated game that only got worse (for the most part) with this terrible port. The Speed stages are really the only fun part about this game other than the music and some bosses, but not only do they take up less than 1/3 of the game (keep in mind this is a SONIC game) but they're still riddled with many flaws of their own. In fact, for Sonic, 2 out of his 6 stages(Crazy Gadget, Pyramid Cave) aren't even that fun anyways and for Shadow out of his 4 stages one is INCREDIBLY short(Sky Rail) and one is also just not fun(Final Chase). This game is a definite step back from Adventure 1 gameplay-wise.
