Though the mystery of what happened in Mount Massive was already discovered, developer Red Barrels has shown that there are plenty of new horrors that can be built, even more grotesque than then those left behind.

Whistleblower just finished a tale of uncommon insanity. He raised the level of brutality, and explained several mysteries from Outlast's plot. However, the number of manhunts with psychopaths has been unnecessarily increased, and maybe there is too much of a rove in the game's setting. Otherwise, Whistleblower is brutal and an (un)enjoyable experience.

Whistleblower does a good job explaining the original Outlast's storyline. [June 2014]

An amazing DLC for the first Outlast game, expanding on both the highly interesting story and the insane setting of Mount Massive.

Outlast: Whistleblower's a very good horror DLC like the original game. This DLC offers: a very good story and more gore, scary moments to the horror lovers. Even the gameplay mechanics's still same, the DLC gives us a key character: Waylon Park.

How great and smooth can a Dlc be? The answer is in this game. After the first game, Whistleblower gives us a different perspective on the story and the same location, bringing us back to the creepy tension of Mount Massive Hospital. Continuing without spoilers, our main character, Waylon Park, is a senior programmer at the Mount Massive branch of the Murkoff Corporation. But this time we are exposed to different events in different parts of the grandiose big hospital. I have to say that the gameplay is still extremely cool and sweet. A game in which the characters we call Villian now exhibit a completely different level of terror, and in this tension, I got goosebumps. The story is very well filled for the end of the first game. Again, if we want to understand a game, we should follow the details well and play the game as a whole. It may be an exaggerated score for a DLC, but such a carefully designed DLC gave me extreme pleasure! SCARING AND SWEATING. We also see in this game that it's not just a monotonous story, but that Murkoff, the megacorporation of Outlast, has a really big story. Lore is in the far future and hopefully Outlast 3 will be with us and we'll solve the mysteries as the open points are closed even more. In technical terms, I think the game's artificial intelligence is quite good, the character voices are very detailed and you can feel the tension and fear. The story is not cliché but it progresses in a way that makes us question our ethical values. In addition to all this, in this game, especially with the increased dose of tension in the DLC, we can understand well what EVIL is. On the one hand, even though the graphics are not overly beautiful, as I said, I bet it's one of the sweetest games I've ever played, and if it was longer and the script was more twisted, it would overtake the main game Outlast. My score is 10 because if a dlc really manages to do these things, it deserves 10 in every way. I was clearly satisfied with the game. I don't understand the low scores, but I know that it's a game that doesn't appeal to everyone because it appeals to a specific category. Nevertheless, it's a game that deserves really high scores, and for me it's the perfect game in its genre. May this game become a cult hit years from now. We wish Red Barrels a lot of love and look forward to the new Outlast games in the best way possible.

If horror is meant to plumb your fears and unnerve you, The Whistleblower at least manages that to do so a few times. For the rest, it’s a fun return to the stock release’s setting and mechanics for some solid jump scares and atmosphere, which lasts just long enough to remind of what made the original enthralling.

For Outlast fans and horror aficionados alike, a return to the demented halls of Mount Massive is exactly what the doctor ordered.

Whistleblower is a short and predicable first DLC for Outlast. It's very obscure and bloody. Waylon Park also uses a video camera, like Miles. This is his only weapon to face the cannibal.

While Whistleblower sheds a bit of light on the mysteries of the original, but ultimately feels far too familiar, far too often.

Outlast: Whistleblower is an exhilarating and compact prequel that lives up to the hype without overstaying its welcome. It delivers just the right balance of thrills and gore, along with solid pacing. Additionally, it introduces one of the series' finest antagonists in the form of Eddie Gluskin. He's got a tightly structured story that is near flawless in execution, and the absolute BEST smile (If he wasn't so horribly homicidal, he could totally swoon me with that smile)! While the flagship game may have been a few hours too long, this DLC rounds out to the perfect length of time. Honestly, buy this. Whistleblower is the definitive Outlast experience!

Outlast Whistleblower is a perfect dlc for the main game. Even though the scares are the same as the main Outlast game, there are a few more terrifying moments which were intense throughout. I would of expected it to be a bit longer, and to make it less frustrating at certain moments because it takes away a bit of the experience. The sounds and the atmosphere are still perfect, same with the night vision effect. Overall, i would give this a 7/10.

Schade.
SummaryAs Waylon Park, the whistleblower who emailed Miles Upshur, you’ll witness psycho killers and asylum security face off as all hell truly breaks loose. Survive, and you may just have a chance to expose the terrible secrets at the heart of Mount Massive and unmask the true face of the Murkoff Corporation for all the world to see.
