OFF
A surreal and thought-provoking RPG that blends minimalist visuals, clever puzzles, and an enigmatic story full of metaphors and psychological depth, with improved combat balance, interface, and accessibility options that make this remaster the best way to experience its cult classic charm, despite its short duration and inconsistent Spanish translation.
OFF really tastes like a fine aged wine. Even though plenty of games in the same vein have come out since the original release, OFF still manages to impress with its story and atmosphere even after 17 years. I just wish that, after going through all the trouble of a remake, they had done more to update the action system. But everything else, especially the weight and impact of the underlying metaphors, delivers an experience you won’t easily forget, even years from now. In fact, when it’s over, you might find yourself, like me, just staring blankly at a wall for a while.
Over a decade later, OFF maintains its status as a delightfully bizarre, compelling little narrative that will haunt you far beyond its 5–6 hour runtime. This timeless RPG benefits from the polish and updates in the remaster, but otherwise remains faithfully true to its incredible original incarnation.

The most influential jRPG of the bunch. The father of Omori, Undertale, and countless others. Truly a unique narrative, almost making fun of the jRPG core gameplay

It's a great game. While it doesn't really stack up now, you need to remember that it was made back in 2007; which allows you to truly see how much this game has influenced indie games that came after it

OFF was one of my first ever RPG horror games I ever played (The Witch's House was my very first), while it's not my absolute favorite or anything and I much rather play other RPG horror games instead I still cheerish this game for have brought my interest into RPG maker horror. This remastered was...good, I suppose, I don't mind the new soundtrack, I honestly think it's great but a MASSIVE downgrade from the freeware version. Ok, there are some tracks that I enjoyed like Dedan's new boss theme but some tracks were just a hit or miss for me, but other than that, the remastered has improved a lot from the original, especially the battle system (I still hate the puzzles). Though, my personal advice? If you really wanna get into OFF, download the freeware version first just so you can listen the OG soundtrack and get an idea what the game is about. Then, if you liked the game and wanna support Mortis Ghost, you can (if you want) spend 15 bucks for this remastered, but if you wanna jump right into the remastered first then I suggest to download the OG soundtrack mod to get a much better experience

The best RPGs impart lasting emotions on the player over the duration of the playthrough. In between its turn-based battles, light character building, and dark symbolism, OFF imprints guilt, horror, and confusion on the player in ways few games successfully pull off. OFF is an RPG that everyone should experience blindly, especially those who appreciate a haunting journey with blips of the bizarre. This remaster is not just a should-play of 2025, but a must-play of the decade. If you want OFF’s rainbow, you must have the rain.

Finished playing “OFF” last night, honestly a **** class RPG (which Kate narrated for me, really drove home the tone of the game thank you) I knew a bit about the game going into it as Kate explained the plot and a hint of the ending a while back, but nothing truly prepared me for what this game had to **** game really is like catching lightning in a bottle, it has so much charm and creativity, it’s cryptic and horrifying; not in the scary jumpscare sense, but it’s existential as ****. It tackles morality better than any game I’ve ever played, after finishing the game (and pondering throughout playing) it made me think for a good while, it’s one of those games at really makes you think and get excited for. I think the writing and pacing of OFF is perfection, it leaves enough mystery and weirdly cryptic dialogue to make you ponder, but it doesn’t spoon feed you “deep lore”, it’s incredibly humble in its writing and perfectly cryptic enough to give you chills. It’s also good at not going overboard with that dread factor, there’s enough weirdness, twists and turns that makes it a perfect experience. There’s so many clever choices made in this game that I’ve not seen before in a game or many forms of media, it’s hard to explain without spoiling but the game is full of surprises and I adore how it is executed. The dilemma between the batter and the judge is clever and makes you ponder what is morally right the more you uncover about this odd world, there’s also a bit of 4th wall breaking throughout the game too which isn’t some edgy “look at how clever this is lol”, but it’s more a necessary plot point about the game as a whole; as in if you, the player (who is acknowledged by some characters as an entity puppeteering the batter), has a role in the outcome of this world by simply not playing the game is a decision therefore what is to come cannot happen. I love turn based combat and as simple as it is it’s so cool, the art in the battle sequences are ace, it’s a driving point for the game and makes each encounter interesting. The system works really well, it’s balanced and the wording of the battles makes sense, it’s all quite ominous how a lot of this game is written. Even the dialogue from the batter is flat and unnerving, he spouts some terrifying one liners at times. The music too is, **** wacky, and it works so well for the atmosphere of the world around you and the battle sequences. The final part of the game is where the music drives that terror factor home. I could go on but I’ve said enough so I’ll conclude with this. Some people may not agree or see it, but from experiencing OFF like this it feels like such a special game, it was intriguing from start to finish with a sick world, neat game mechanics, great OST, and brilliant writing. This game is simple but works so **** well, it’s perfect in my eyes and I can see why it’s such an inspiration ****. Love it so much, I’ll definitely play it again one day.

OFF is a fantastic RPG from beginning to end. The narrative is fantastic and manages to weave a dark tone with brief moments of levity extremely well, thanks to the great worldbuilding and charming characters. Further, the gameplay is paced superbly with a combat loop that never gets old. I do wish some of the puzzles weren't as infrequent and the new content in the remaster was easier to find, but with the other new additions to the remaster, this is the best way to play this incredible cult classic game that paved the way for future indie RPGs.

OFF is dated, but in the same charming, lovely way that a big grandfather clock is dated. It's something you have to appreciate; you can enjoy the craftsmanship behind it, and it's something that inspired so many things you love nowadays. The remaster doesn't change that much, but it's just enough of a facelift and refresh that it's super easy to recommend to anyone interested in playing the game for the first time, even with its slightly crusty visuals and somewhat repetitive combat. This game is a definite masterpiece, and one that deserves to be remembered fondly.

OFF is a cult classic RPG thanks to its surreal world, strange cast of characters, and bizarre enemies. Inspiring Undertale and many other indie genre icons, OFF manages to still feel like a titan, and incredibly digestible thanks to its tight design and bite-size zones. Revised combat is a huge plus, making every scrap pack plenty of impact in this definitive release.

OFF is an important relic of the old RPG Maker scene, a pioneer in the realm of independent, small-scale RPGs that innovated in its own right. To have an accessible, modernized version that is a nearly 1-to-1 rerelease, without having to dig up old download links for a fan-translated version, is a win in itself. As a faithful remaster of a 2008 RPG Maker game, however, it also shows its age rather clearly, with a shallow turn-based combat system and barebones structure – such is the thing with aging. But even within those limitations, some things do age gracefully; the eerie atmosphere, off-kilter art style, cartoonish humor that feeds into a uniquely disturbing style of horror, and the breaking of convention that still sends chills down my spine. OFF walked so others could run – so, you don't have to love OFF, but you damn well better respect it.

Estoy francamente decepcionado....
