Either way it is played, the victory over a huge monster after a forty-minute battle, and then discovering a new series of armour, etc. that can be made from its parts is the sugar that keeps the player coming back. [JPN Import]

Still a tough game to love but if you click with Monster Hunter it'll be an all-consuming relationship. [May 2010, p.62]

It gorgeous and fun, and there's nothing else like it for the system. [May 2010, p.86]

This game is my favorite out of all Monster Hunter base games, even if it's the one I started with. The difference between the time it takes to hunt a monster the first time you've seen it and after you learned its moveset is huge, and it becomes all the more satisfying to finish a fight in half the time compared to your first run. Underwater combat is the main draw of this game and a lot of people disliked it, but I didn't find it to be all that bad. Monsters like Royal Ludroth didn't feel fun to fight underwater but others like Gobul were perfectly fine and had some interesting new moves. Monster Hunter Tri, alongside Monster Hunter 1, only has 18 monsters, which is the lowest amount in the series, but I found Tri's roster to be more interesting. Tri is strict like other older games like Freedom Unite, Dos, and 1, but controls are more manageable and items are a bit easier to get. Unlike newer Monster Hunter games, though, money is something you actually have to manage. Moga Woods is a new mechanic in Tri that allows you to gather items in the Deserted Island map with no time limit or faint limit, and you can collect commodities in the Moga Woods to trade with the Argosy Captain in Moga Village. Overall, Monster Hunter Tri is an experience that I'd recommend for players who have gotten comfortable with the Monster Hunter format from before World. If you can get your hands on Tri or 3U after playing 4U or GU, then it's going to be worth it.

Very good game, brings easy online multiplayer and cool environment. Only flaw is the water fighting system that is a bit clumsy

Hunting down monsters, doing challenges and customizing your character feels good, especially when you're playing with friends, but unfortunately, the gameplay mechanics are a little bit clunky.

This is one of those games that creates gamers and is easily one of the best Wii games to date.

A very good and addictive action RPG. You kill a lot of monsters and collect even more stuff, which are used to upgrade your equipment. The missions are a bit samey, though. [June 2010]

Best On-Line Third Person RPG game ever. Even shows us Zelda fans love and I love the challenge. Sword and Shield is balanced and I'm happy. Inventory is simple and off the chain like normal. Monster Hunter has came a long way and walks over World of Warcraft.

I LOVE this game! Great weapons, beautiful locations, great music, TONS of replay value and inventive monsters. I mean, what other game that is out there has a lava sea monster that swims in lava and UNDERGROUND! And the online mode is great fun! One of the best games on Wii, multiplayer and single player!

An ambitious project has given birth to one of the best titles on the Wii. Great and deep mechanics, finally (almost) accessible gameplay and bestowed with a good control system. Get it and play it with at least a Classic Controller, your WiiMote won't make it.

Overcoming daunting obstacles is part of what makes playing Monster Hunter so rewarding, and the game gives you the option to do so offline by yourself or with friends.

Monster Hunter Tri is the opposite of a casual game. Hunting monsters and upgrading your weapons is a challenge for endless hours and highly addictive. Free Online-mode included.

It brings the tried and tested formula to the Wii without as much as a hiccup, offering the most user-friendly experience yet. The game still requires patience and a solid investment of time, however, meaning that Tri is still very much reserved for the core gamer.

Monster Hunter Tri is certainly an archaic game full of small imperfections, but its unique ambiance and approach successfully make up for it.

Fantastic game with a multiplayer experience very unlike what you would find anywhere else! Work as a team with your friends to take down a challenging boss monster in an epic battle? Sign me up. Can't wait to play each new Monster Hunter when it comes out!

You know what, I'm tired of all the ten out of ten reviews for this game. The one player mode is huge and interesting at first but soon becomes a chore.I bought this for the potential of the multiplayer. It is a total let down- the WiiSpeak hardware is terrible. After several sessions of shouting 'what's that mate?' at the telly only tyo get another mumbled/echoed reply myself and my group of friends traded this . I'm really losing faith in Nintendo- their reluctance to provide services that the PS3 and 360 do for their customers is becoming boring.

Okay. I'm going to do what apparently no one else will do. Tell you that this game ****. Before we begin, yes, I'm a huge RPG fan. I've played everything from Fallout 3 to Xenoblade to Skyrim to Sleeping Dogs to... you get the picture. I'll play nearly any of them I can get my hands on. However, I couldn't stand this game. The controls were ****, the attacks had animations that were so clunky and long half of the time you would get hit anyway, so it was more luck than strategy, not to mention that every attack moved you forward, which is fine, and maybe even useful for the big enemies... but when you're fighting the annoying little flying insects (why am I even fighting friggin insects?) you'll miss 4 out of 5 times. To be honest, I couldn't play this game for more than... I don't know, between an hour and two hours. I really wanted to like this game too, but I just couldn't. I didn't try online mode, but I'd imagine the controls and etc. would be exactly the same. If you want to play something kind of similar, give Xenoblade a try, it's nowhere near as annoying. If you liked it, first tell me what I was missing, so that I can give it another shot, though I doubt it gets better further in or anything like that. Then try out Xenoblade, it's so much better.

This game is garbage. The playability is terrible, everything takes too long, every animation is excessively long which makes it a pain in the ass every time you have to heal or use an item. I mean, the animations are so long they appear to me to be a sick developer`s joke. Or maybe they thought "how do we stretch the game play time to the max without adding more content? just make every animation several seconds long and make the entire game in slow motion!!". Gathering items takes too long and you need too many of them to do anything useful. The playability in the water is a joke, while the monsters you have to slay in the water move like lightning. The monsters are cool and all, but once you hurt them they start running away and you have to chase after monsters for way too long to kill them, because they heal themselves and hide. And excessively so, by the time they are limping do not be fooled, they have probably about 80% of their health and will move around the map like 10 times before dying. This game quickly becomes a chore and it brings a lot more pain and frustration to the player than happiness and satisfaction. Games are supposed to be a fun escape, this game is like trying to cut a tree down with nothing but a butterknife. It`s excessively difficult and for no good reason. I`m glad i only played this on an emulator and didn`t spend a penny on it. As soon as I realized this game was giving me a lot more stress and frustration than if I hadn`t been playing it, i deleted the game and cleaned my recycle bin. I am now very bitter thinking about the hours i threw away playing this crap game. I should really start doing more productive things in my free time.
