Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is utterly magnificent. Newfound vertical freedom, extraordinary new monsters and native 3DS multiplayer makes for the best game in the series to date, coupled with a much more compelling storyline and some killer new features.

You won’t even notice that you’ve already spent dozens of hours with MH4U and you will understand why whole Japan is addicted to it. A strong candidate for the best 3DS game. [05/2015, p.75]

This was my second Monster Hunter game and and now my Favorite, it's an incredible game worthy of my no.1 spot of all time. Over 700 hours were spent on this game and it was worth every second.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the perfect fit for portable play, allowing you to devour piled-platter entrees or saucer-sized appetizers.

While Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is still Monster Hunter (and thank goodness for that) Capcom has put a great deal of effort into improving the overall experience, and I'd say that their revamp has been a wild success.

Monster Hunter 4 has a lot of repetition and grinding, but succeeds at capturing the thrill of the big game hunt like no other game can. If you’re looking for a long-term game with plenty of loot to grind, quests to beat and bosses to kill, this is your game.

It makes what was once seen as a generally console-specific concept feel decidedly at home on a handheld offering a wide array of gorgeous visuals, enhanced controls, and the highly sought-after introduction of online functionality.

The great aspects of the game are crushed beneath the monumental weight of it's frustrating gameplay. While some of this pain is eased by the multiplayer, it isn't enough to make up for the fact that the game just shouldn't have been released on the 3DS. This is a console game trapped in a handheld body, and it's really a shame that a game with so much potential is limited by such small but ever-so-important design problems.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the pinnacle of the old generation of Monster Hunter games, refining the old system of Monster Hunter to get rid of most of the broken systems of past games while adding some of the best gameplay additions in the entire franchise. Mounting, the main new addition to the base combat, is extremely satisfying to pull off in a hunt and gives massive payoff to make the act worthwhile. The new weapons, charge blade and insect glaive are most extremely fun and interesting to learn and fit in great with the existing weapon roster. Most significantly, the roster of monster throughout the game is absolutely massive and extremely fun to play through, providing unique challenges with vastly different foes that doesn't get old for hundreds of hours.

This game actually added some new elements that never before and actually feel better for easier **** for those who want to buy this game got to keep 4 things in mind , first you got to know this game = no deep story , 2nd almost endless hunting for making equipment ( 1% drop rate items exist) , 3rd do you play multiplayer? (G-rank urgent shah dalamadur stop all unskilled solo player from continuing their journey so probably you want connect to the internet and find someone to kill it for materials or further hunting) , 4th you are not super hero like dante from devilmaycry or frontier so dont expect you can fight the boss while flying like a boss or use some super power and most of the bosses love to use tricky skill making the game frustrating for newcomers , LAST AND AGAIN this game is not for everyone so think before purchase

Its hooks will sink in DEEPLY, and then, suddenly, you will come to a terrifying realization that the scope of what you want to achieve in a game and the scope of what the game demands of you are irreconcilable, and the hooks will release instantly, but not without some pain. This game is not for someone who wants to sit down and have fun; it is for the most extreme masochists who want to repeat the same 20-minute fights dozens or even hundreds of times in order to adequately dress themselves. If that person is you, then Godspeed--I must move on with my life.

If you're looking for a game that is smooth flowing, intuitive and not repetitive at all, this is not for you. The combat system is the most clunky I have ever experienced, your character is slow and lumbering no matter what, and chances are you'll only be able to get 2 hits at most on a monster before you get flung across the map in the most dramatic and unnecessarily long knockdown animation ever. Not to mention the healing system; be prepared to stand still for 2 minutes while your character sips a potion delicately and then proudly exclaims to the world that he is now at slightly higher health capacity. Expect to do this every 30 seconds from the tutorial onward. Half the battles consist of at least 3 of the following **** occurrences, pick your favourites: - Being trapped underneath a large monster completely - Being knocked into another part of the map because you were standing within 2 miles from a cliff edge - Charging up an attack only to have the monster dash away at the last second -Getting stunned for 10 seconds every 3 minutes in a battle -Palicos being useless pieces of **** and not knocking you out of a sleep or stun -Having to sharpen your weapon LITERALLY EVERY 30 SECONDS which takes another 10 seconds to complete -Most of the weapons' damage ****. I mained the insect glaive and it's a piece of **** even if you micromanage the essences on a monster for half the match the damage isn't enough to warrant playing it versus some of the other weapons. You can't even block. -Awful camera too zoomed in to see what you're doing, especially when a monster is on top of you -Weapon sharpened to anything less than perfect? Have fun doing 0 damage and having your attacks bounce off And I'm not even going to go into the farming system, which is tedious at best. The fishing system? Unnecessary, boring and has no depth to it whatsoever, just another means to farm. But hey, at least they took out swimming.

I find it amazing this game was so well liked! Just trying to play the game itself is an exercise in futility. I picked it up because I've been having a blast with Final Fantasy Explorers and a guildmate recommended the MH series for more crafting and monster farming goodness on my 3ds. Boy let me tell you was he wrong. The controls are so terrible 4 hours in I had become physically ill. I pressed onward hoping it would get better or finally "click". I could not have been more wrong. I've now invested roughly 40 hours and I'm done trying to have fun with this game. Difficulty should come from gameplay, not terrible controls. Fighting the controls to make the game even remotely playable isnt a difficulty mechanic, it's just shoddy game design. If you make it past what is easily the worst controls I've seen in a game, ever (I've been a gamer for 30 years), you are greeted with hyper slow combat, crafting, potion drinking, and even unsheathing your freaking weapon animations. The game just isn't fun, nothing about it is fun. Your palico is useless, hit boxes are super huge for your character and tiny for enemies, and enemies are many times over faster than you. It makes you feel like the game is literally cheating you out of a fun experience. I can think of many things more fun than MH4U, like going to the dentist, being in a car wreck, or listening to Creed on auto repeat for 4 years. This series may have come first, but Final Fantasy Explorers does literally every facet of the "monster hunter" genre better. The only thing that saved it from a zero review is that its pretty to look at and find new cool looking armor. Everything else is hot garbage.
