Honestly, this game is overhated. It suffers from three: * The game starts with the worst of the companions you get during the playthrough. * It became a meme before its release. * 30 FPS are cruel in this day and age. I am a lover of the original trilogy and started this now for the 5th time and finally it "clicked". After a while, you learn to love it if you are into the universe. It's just that the start is really really bad hence I cannot give it more than a generous 8. It is at least a 7 for most who actually give it a chance. There are things I enjoy more than in the original trilogy, e.g. the shooting, my ship (much easier overview).

After playing through 1, 2, and 3 this game aint it, fun little space game now, to explore repetitive planets. The other 3 games were on to something..

This game will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first game I'd played from start to finish and I can equate my love for games to this day solely due to its influence. It got me to check out the original mass effect trilogy and then branch out to other types of games. Does that mean I'm biased? I can admit that does play a part, but regardless of the sentimental reasons, the reason I finished it in the first place (then immediately replayed it) was due to having so much fun in the galaxy they created. The sense of adventure, discovery and the unknown are key parts of this games make up and if your into sci fi or space in general, like myself, then thats checking all the boxes. Theres tons of great quests, a compelling, engaging story, and more lore then some entire book series I've read. It also has some great antagonist aliens and creatures and the combat is super fun and well balanced. The power system is opened up compared to the first 3 games in the series, meaning you can choose from all of the powers available without being restricted to specific classes BUT there is a story related reason they give to justify that ability. Speaking of the classes, they change those into profiles that you can switch between that grant you certain bonuses depending on which class it relates to. They upgrade as you gain skills in the different power trees. The MC is very different from Shepard so going in its important to not bring unrealistic expectations that they will be the same because they aren't. Ryder is a very well made character and upholds the same values as Shepard, they just goes about achieving their goals in different ways. I did have the benefit of playing this game long after its launch which I have heard was buggy but as of right now, this game is amazing and I would suggest it to anyone whos on the fence.

Misunderstood and given up on too fast. A few bad glitches at launch ruined what could have been worthy follow up to the original trilogy.

It's 2025 and I've just finished replaying Mass Effect Legendary and man it was amazing and felt like it was just released this year. But what a shame about Andromeda. So many good ideas within this game but poorly executed. An amazing franchise Mass effect, but this was left **** characters in this game have some good ideas, and it was nice to see new Alien species in the universe. But the dialogue was awful and bland. You didn't find a connection with the characters like in the previous three games. Also, for some reason, the face graphics of the people were not improved but looked worse than mass effect 123. It looked like this was made before the previous mass effects.

I never would have thought that a game could ruin such a well-established franchise. I tried several times to finish it, but it was such a nightmare that it was impossible.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a decent game. 50% of the game consists of repetitive filler that often feels like a waste of time. Yet, there’s still gold to be found here that makes the game worth playing, especially if you’re a Mass Effect fan. The story is pretty decent, and the combat and character building is honestly great. So great that I’d say it single handedly kept me sane through all of the fetch quests. The biggest star of the show has to be the crew. All of the best moments in the game come from interacting with them and their own unique loyalty missions. It’s the only aspect of the game that can really hold a candle to the og trilogy. Definitely worth trying if you can pick it up for less than 20 bucks.

SCORE: Average 7, 7,5/10 I mean this game is alright, not as bad as you would think it is. there are some fun quests, good characters, the gameplay is also fun. but i expected more from a mass effect game, much more. its leagues below the old mass effect games. you wont miss much if you skip this game, but if you dont have anything else to do, sure, play this **** dont expect too much, i guess.....

Take everything that people thinks made Mass Effect good, give it to your C team, and rush it out the door, and you get the ungodly mess that is Mass Effect Andromeda. Ugly characters, dull visuals, terrible story, buggy gameplay, choppy performance, monotonous open world activities, laughably worse combat, and terrible world building. Frankly, if I didn't laugh at the glitches and bugs, I would have given it a 0. That one point on my score is a pity point, due to the comedic nature of the glitches.

After playing the original trilogy have to say that Andromeda is not a bad game because is another saga in the same universe that's why it has it's differences good ones or bad ones but is a mass effect game and a good one when you play it as another saga and not a sequel of Shepard's trilogy talking about the game itself is a refreshing start i like how it feels less linear like the original trilogyamd it has it's reasons Ryder is the pathfinder in a new galaxy is necessary for the game to have exploration and in my taste is a good one I like how each planet you visit feels alive and it's beautiful and I like the combat system is a update and And with more action elements playing with the new biotics feels like how biotics should be in the original saga the companions are iconic to the typical badass krogan drack, to the more energetic asari peebee, the less military turian vetra and much more they all have a spark that makes them shine they are unique and familiar at the same time, in Conclusion the game is a new look to the mass effect saga and its a good game maybe not as much as Mass effect 2 but at the end of the day is a good game

Despite hearing mostly mixed and even negative thoughts on this game, I tried to get into Andromeda open-minded. Mass Effect: Andromeda is not connected to the original trilogy, so it's more of a spin-off or a new sub-series in the Mass Effect franchise. With that being said, its openness and some of its ideas make it feel quite similar to the first Mass Effect game, more so than the other games in the series. Unfortunately thought, Mass Effect: Andromeda doesn't share the epic scale and stakes of the original trilogy, in fact, it's even less epic than the first game of the trilogy. Another thing it doesn't share with the original trilogy is... well, a good story and engaging characters; uhmmm... yeah, it's rough, there are some cool ideas about them, I guess, but they're largely forgettable and just bland, and the pacing is slow as well. At least the gameplay is mostly enjoyable, it feels satisfying and fluid, there's a decent depth and variety, it's just fun. The visuals are very good too, particularly when it comes to the world design, not just the graphics. The quest design, however, is very repetitive, especially for the first half of the game. Also, details like the user interface is kind of a mess, the facial expressions and animations in general are awkward most of the time, and the voice acting is hit or miss as well. The performance isn't perfect either, but the game runs well for the most part. Pros: + Interesting plot ideas + Fun gameplay + Great visuals Cons: - Underwhelming story and characters - Slow pacing - Weak quest design - Minor details and technical issues - Animations Narrative: 4/10 Gameplay: 7/10 Content: 6/10 Characters: 4/10 Music: ?/10 Graphics/Audio: 8/10 Final Rating: 5/10 - Mediocre - All in all, Mass Effect: Andromeda feels like an outdated, rushed and lazy spin-off, and an unfortunate follow-up to an absolutely legendary videogame trilogy; it's not a bad game per se, it's just a disappointingly average and heavily flawed third person shooter RPG in a series filled with amazing games. Do I recommend it?: Only if you wanna dive deeper into the series, otherwise, not really.

Poorly made game with horrendous, childish, MCU-like writing it felt like this game was made for kids. It's overwhelming from the get-go and poorly paced throughout. The premise is interesting, but never utilises its potential. Dialogue is corny and ham fisted and doesn't feel engaging nor stimulating. Animations and character models and so janky and unpolished it's laughably bad. THE MOST egregious thing this game does is by wasting your time even further with load screens after load screens. It's horrific optimisation results in things like waiting a minute or two to access the main menu, another minute to load into the game itself and roughly 7-15 seconds to open a door that leads into any main area. There some positives however, such as gameplay is genuinely fun. There's a lot customisation that you can swap up your playstyle on the fly, which makes for interesting outcomes when you factor in the Biotic and Tech combos. The Strike Team missions are low stakes fun also. This game would be somewhat tolerable had it been its own IP. However, since it's tied to the Mass Effect franchise there's an enormous expectation on quality that this game simply does not have. As a new fan to the series I thought people where just exaggerating how bad this game truly was, sadly they were not wrong. An absolute far cry from what the first three games accomplished and what impact they had.

After running through ME2 on Insanity, I decided to give the heavy storyline and slo-mo cut scenes of ME3 a pass and jump straight to Andromeda. After 7 years I am thrilled with the combat and even happier with the narrative elements. Thankful for the enhancements since I first bought the game long ago. Andromeda should not be judged on the same scorecard as the original trilogy. It’s not another predictable but exciting retread of “Seven Samurai in Space.” It’s an RPG 3rd person shooter AND a political sci-fi story. An allegory for developing consciousness of some complex, multicultural world, where everyone thinks their team is right and the other team is out to destroy them, but where you actually only gain strength and resilience through cooperation and respect. This entire sensibility is probably foreign to most US users (myself included) raised in a bubble of exceptionalism. Granted, the predominant values are still thoroughly Western. But the little dopamine boosts of gaining the trust and loyalty of a stranger or a former enemy seem didactic and intentional. It “hits different” in 2024 than in 2017.

I know this game was released in an unacceptable state. It has a lot of shortcomings in storytelling compared to the other Mass Effect games. But, I still had a great time playing it. I really enjoyed the gameplay, exploring with the ND1 Nomad (yeah, I said it! living that Mako life.), combat, crafting and augmenting gear, and trying all the different classes and different builds. Dumbing down your squad commands was an epic failure. However, in my opinion, there are a lot of great features in this game. Carrying the Mass Effect name probably hurt this game a lot. It was never going to live up to the trilogy before it. Instead of judging it for what it is, people judged it for what they thought it should be (with the exception of the launch state). That's usually a recipe for disaster.

Don't let anyone trick you into thinking it's "fixed." The bugs are fixed for the most part, at least the game isn't liquefying in front of you, but it didn't change just how undercooked and rushed this game is. The facial animations, the scene staging, and the dialogue are all still atrocious. The teeth clip through lips, the characters look at you with a thousand-yard stare with unmoving eyeballs, and their attempt to showcase even a slightly complex emotion makes it look either creepy or laughable. The story is unfinished, and the setting is beyond generic. I swear to God that if you ask a modern AI to come up with a synth machine race comprised entirely of self-printing robots, Remnant would be the result. It's like the first draft of a race for a videogame. Granted, the Protheans weren't as fleshed out in the first Mass Effect either, but at least they were tied to the Reapers. In Andromeda they are everywhere, and nothing about them is interesting. Not their designs, not their mysterious creators, who apparently "eugeniced" the entire galaxy. The gameplay starts out strong, but the sheer stupidity of the AI and no restrictions on what your abilities are in this classless system mean you will crumb stomp unopposed. And my advice if you ever actually decide to play is to never do the RNG tasks. If there is no marker, do not bother. You can get 100% livability on every planet without touching them.

*Note: I never played Mass effect 1 and it’s been years since I played mass effect 2 so I can’t speak for it* Weaker story compared to Mass Effect 3. The world is so shallow you have little reason to explore or care about the new alien races. The Angarans BARELY have a presence in their own home turf, have no history because it was lost, and they’re in worse shape than our characters! Game felt less like exploration and more about putting out fires. Things get better as the story gets going but the flaw of the alien races being undeveloped still remains. The squad mates felt like the only good parts about the game. They single-handedly carried the game for me, hearing their conversations and banter in the vehicle as we drove around the map. The protagonist isn’t as strong as Shepard but I feel like if given more time to develop, they couldn’t developed as a character along with the other side characters. The combat was also great and when the world was lively, such as the planet with the Krogans, things were good too.

I don't know what happened with the launch of this game, but I'm playing it now, in 2024, and I'm finding it to be pretty good. Entertaining, a solid story, and long. It's not feeling repetitive to me and I don't see any bugs... The launch was probably a disaster, but I think everyone should try it.

I found it hard to continue playing. There are way too many side quests compared to the main quest, the main quest feels short. Character interaction is lacking something too, I didn’t connect or feel anything for most of the squad mates in the game. I am biased, I find myself comparing Andromeda to ME 1-3 and BG3, which are in a league of their own. I do have 66 hours logged for the game and I haven’t finished yet, so take this review with a grain of salt. You can get the game for really cheap (I think I got it on sale for $7?) and there is easily 100 hours of gameplay, I think it’s worth it. Definitely falls flat coming after ME 1-3 but without comparing Andromeda to anything I think it was fun and enjoyed experiencing something new in the Mass Effect universe.

There’s just really nothing to say about this game except it is just “meh.” The game, of course, isn’t complete trash, so please ignore the zeros people are giving it. The game, however, is also certainly not a 7 or above. If this was the first Mass Effect game, then maybe a 7 would be in order. This game proves two things: #1, you can’t have a proper Mass Effect game without the original crew. THEY are what made Mass Effect “Mass Effect,” and #2, you can’t have a proper Mass Effect game when the people who made the epic trilogy didn’t work on Andromeda. Andromeda is a tedious, boring game with a neat idea for a story that was poorly executed.

The game's premise is that you are the Pathfinder, a role in which you find a way to make worlds habitable in the Andromeda galaxy for the human race. You do this by killing off evil aliens and doing a bunch of quests. The game is an open world specifically of 5 large places to explore. If there's something good about this game, it's the large amount of things to do. However, the game feels more like other people are the star of the show, namely your AI called SAM which pretty much does all the work in the game really. The Pathfinder feels less like a leader, and more like a random dude that wants to explore. The voice acting isn't that great and the conversation animations aren't so good. Combat is neat but can get old quickly since you're fighting the same types of enemies from beginning to end. Most of your main squad mates aren't very memorable; especially Peebee. Peebee is such an awful character that she really has no logical place in your squad. The game would've been much better without her. Overall, it was a slightly above average experience.

I did not play this game at release so by the time I played the majority of the glitches and issues had been resolved. I like the story and characters. The ability to jump added new mobility to combat and the more open world feel of the planets was also refreshing. While ME2 is still my favorite, this was a solid and fun addition in my book I know we won't get a a sequel to this but I would really like to see what the future held for the Andromeda Galaxy

Probably the best example of the genre, the Mass Effect games were a grand space opera that nigh on perfectly blended shooting, RPG style exploration and story telling. Andromeda continues in the same vein but starts from scratch in a new galaxy with a new story arc and new set of characters, As such it doesn't have the same immersive feel of the previous two instalments and the story and characterisation is not as rich. Having said all that, it's still an extremely playable and fun space-bound **** just doesn't have the je ne sais quoi that marked the last two outings.

“I just think [it’s] neat.” -Marge Simpson This game is not a masterpiece (or even close) but I enjoyed playing it. I played a bit of it on PC and it was a miserable experience, but playing it on PS4 a few years ago was fun. I didn’t experience any technical issues on PS4, but PC was an entirely different story. The frostbite engine kinda **** (brave statements only on this account).

Definitely not as good as the Mass Effect Trilogy in terms of story and characters, some of them I really didnt care about. The dialogue is somewhat very poor and pale in comparison to everything we are used to watch with Commander Shepard badass attitude and his interactions with others. The level of threat represented by the antagonist is not really compelling. It is not a bad game because you can still explore planets and feel like a real space ship commander, the gameplay is still fun, but it lacks a lot of substance before you can call it a great game.

It just needs some polish. The combat is amazing and the story is engaging. And there is a lot of content. I put in over 50 hours and I am still not done with the main story. There are some bugs but nothing that is game stopping. Well worth the bargain price it is now for a fun few hours

To start, the game is incredibly ugly. I mean PS3 ugly. Flat, muddy textures make the "hdr" options a mockery. Add that to emotionless mannequin like faces and it's really hard to get invested in anything going on in the opening of the game. The plot is as generic as any other. Humanity's in jeopardy, need a new planet to live on yada yada. The irony is, because the plot is so rote, there never seems to be any sense of urgency or anything at stake. I think my biggest issue with the game is just how low budget it all feels. Almost like the made for TV film equivalent of what was at one time an awesome masterpiece of a blockbuster. Even the combat is that basic bullet sponge exchange. Honestly can't recommend spending any time with this game from what I've played so far. Although it may be worth experiencing for under $10. I guess it just follows that trend of once great licenses dropping the ball this decade.

I was hyped for this game cause i loved Mass Effect 3 which was the first part i played, but i played it so much, especially the multiplayer. In my opinion the best coop wave defend like game i ever played. And that is the main reason why Andromeda didnt had the same success imo. I cant really explain why but it didn't was the same anymore. The game constantly felt a bit laggy and the maps were too small for this new big enemies especially when u play in gold or platinum u didn't had even space. They just should it done like ME3. They literally could copy the game with new content and better graphics and it would be perfect. Still a good game btw

An end of a legendary game series for me. I have spent hundreds of hours of previous mass effects but this is just unplayable. The shallow writing is just too much. Storytelling was the foundation of Bioware, but it has since morphed into this horror.

The game has it's problems and is definitely not perfect, but I keep coming back to play it. I think as a Mass Effect Game people expected something a little different and more, I was one of those people. But I have to say I enjoy playing the game just as much as any of the other games in the series. Update: After dropping support for this game within 6 months of release for an even worse game, Anthem cough cough, that they also gave up on review went down. The game really suffers by being developed by a c team with no fault of the people who worked on the actual game, but the bugs and incomplete tweaking of things that never happened really makes the game suffer. And it's unfortunate.

The game seriously lacks polish. It's been a long time since I've seen a game where the issues and flaws are so obvious. Animations, clipping, graphics glitches, all of these things are substantially sub par for a AAA game. This being said, the environments seem to be large and beautiful. Unfortunately the story seems to only be serviceable, not extraordinary like the previous Mass Effect games. I would have preferred this game be a PC exclusive so that we would have one great game rather than three okay to good games. Now I have to treat Bioware like Ubisoft.
