Star Savior is a live service gaccha game featuring turn based RPG gameplay. Instead of improving upon the genre, this game features tons of different currencies when it only really needs a handful. It offers tutorials that don't explain the game play modes very well. The game's story comes off as bipolar: it features a timeloop story that involves forced amnesia; which is a a really bad story writing style. Even worse, the more you get to the story, you find even more characters that have forced amnesia because the writers are too unskilled to write a story that unfolds normally and instead resort to such infantile writing tactics. A big example of this is when there's a bad guy who legitimately tries to kill your party. You would think either the party would want to arrest the individual, kill the individual before they kill anyone else, or just move on with their lives. Nope, the "solution" is that they should find this evil person in order to show them their "smile." Such extremely cringe storytelling is something you'll see throughout all its modes. The story doesn't know if wants to be taken seriously or be a comedy. It would be better if it were a full blown comedy as it does a good job of not taking itself seriously. The awful UI forces you to just click on a bunch of items instead of consolidating it into half the menu options it should've had instead. There are also clone characters which have different movesets from their original. These are really wasted character slots and should've just been brand new characters. There are some good ideas here but all of it is sloppy and awful. There are way better games out there to spend your time with.

It's hard to play this game without it soft locking on you from time to time which ruins part of the fun and part of your progress. Then add to the fact that there's no way to change the speed of text. Also, instead of the writer choosing to write characters based on real people, the writer just chooses to write them as tropey.

Sep 21, 2025
Reverse 1999 centers around a character named Vertin who is called the Time Keeper. The reason being is that she is immune to the effects of the "Storm." Despite the game being a year old, it still doesn't fully explain what the Storm is which goes to show how slow of a pace the main story moves despite there being plenty of chapters and plenty of side stories too. The Storm essentially erases all beings caught up in it and then reverses time. Each time a storm happens, all the characters get transported back in time. One of the biggest issues with the game is the obtuse and pretentious writing. It's as if it's written by a precocious philosophy freshman who loves talking in circles about philosophy. Heck, it's almost as if the game is aware of this since there's a chapter that features a subset of characters that talk in circles. The story is really hurt by this shallow way of writing. One thing that this game excels in is its voice acting. It's even done in 4 different languages which is great. The gameplay is simple and fun. You use the cards on the screen to cast abilities and combine cards to make stronger versions of your moves. Like the story, the more recent characters have their movesets be filled with word salads and a bunch of longstanding junk that makes the mechanics more complicated than it needs to be; it's similar to reading things like legalese or filling out government documents. You can't just play whatever character you want like in a normal video game. You have to collect resources which involved grinding every day where you get a small amount of materials which allow you to gamble at a chance of being able to gain a character to your roster. It is an inferior gameplay system when compared to literally any other genre or any other live service games. It's meant to psychologically trick and frustrate its players into paying money to gamble on the game's systems. Overall, there's just way better games live service games out there with better stories and better gameplay.

The game's premise is that you are the Pathfinder, a role in which you find a way to make worlds habitable in the Andromeda galaxy for the human race. You do this by killing off evil aliens and doing a bunch of quests. The game is an open world specifically of 5 large places to explore. If there's something good about this game, it's the large amount of things to do. However, the game feels more like other people are the star of the show, namely your AI called SAM which pretty much does all the work in the game really. The Pathfinder feels less like a leader, and more like a random dude that wants to explore. The voice acting isn't that great and the conversation animations aren't so good. Combat is neat but can get old quickly since you're fighting the same types of enemies from beginning to end. Most of your main squad mates aren't very memorable; especially Peebee. Peebee is such an awful character that she really has no logical place in your squad. The game would've been much better without her. Overall, it was a slightly above average experience.

Game has great dungeon and battle design. However, it is missing two basic features that most RPG's have nowadays: the ability to run away from battles and the ability to change the speed of the text. You can get around some enemies but there are certainly enemies that are just mandatory to fight; which wouldn't be an issue if there was a run button. This game is redolent of Super Mario RPG with timed hits to both its specials and normal attacks. The variety of special skills you can use in battle are really low though. The story and characters are one dimensional and vapid. Most of the story is "This is the way things are, now do this fetch quest for me since I won't give you the information you need to save the world unless you fetch these items."

Tactics Ogre Reborn is a remake of a remake. It is remake inception. The original Tactics Ogre was remade on the PSP called Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together. This game is a remake of the Let Us Cling together. Unfortunately, though some of the game's attributes were streamlined, there are still quality of life ideas missing. For instance, you don't know which class can equip what weapons unless you buy it. There's no list of skills that you can learn; skills are now tied to weapons rather than classes and it'd be nice to know what the skill list is before investing into leveling up a weapon. There is an arbitrary level cap that hinders you throughout the game. It is increased every 3 or so levels after 3-5 battles. Unfortunately, some of the battles are at your level cap or even higher. This takes away freedom from the game. Some players like to play underleveled, some like to play at the enemy level, and some like to play overleveled. Restricting play styles is quite awful and a step backwards from the series. The fact that this system can't be turned off (at least until you beat the game and even then, the level cap still exists for the other routes you didn't finish) just kills off a lot of the fun I had with it.

Demons Roots features a demon protagonist in a human body. It revolves around the demon realm invading the human realm. The world building of this cruel world is told pretty well as it integrates the sex scenes in terms of world (it's a cruel world so **** and slavery are rampant). The turn based combat is relatively simple and straightforward. One big foible is that even if you are way higher leveled, enemies on the map still chase you. There's also one character whose entire skillset revolves around finding non-treasure box items on the map so if you miss these items, her character is just forever gimped. The story focuses on being highly emotional and being successful at that; but sometimes it forgoes logic because if the audience feels super emotional, then they'll miss the plot holes and some of the weaker writing moments. The music is superb and this is a full fledged RPG with a plethora of side content; it'll take 22-30 hours to complete.

Rance IX: The Helmanian Revolution

User ScoreHunterSeeker
May 22, 2023
Rance is one of the longest running RPG franchises to feature the same protagonist. For those who have never played this game, the titular Rance is a villain who is as strong as most other RPG protagonists. What makes him a villain is that he enjoys **** and has no remorse for those he ****. He also kills allies (in the past game) or at least seriously attempts to kill allies if they think they will interfere in his harem. He is absolutely a narcissist and the whole crux of the game is everyone around him trying to feed his massive ego because he is so powerful that he can topple nations. One of the biggest flaws of this game is the rudimentary UI which looks like something out of a PlayStation 1 game. This is an SRPG which, unlike its predecessors, isn't an absolute grind fest. Each of the characters are varied and have their own set of one/two skills. You gain skill points in which you distribute to specific stats to suit your own playstyle. There are 7 main heroines but most of the other females do have at least one sex scene. It's awesome that some maps let you use your entire roster or almost your entire roster (which can be up to 18 units) I wish the sex scenes with the 7 main heroines were more varied. Monkey orbs are used to see sex scenes and it's a mistake that you can only hold a max of 4. This story is a straightforward and well told one: you are trying to overthrow the evil Helmanian government. All the story beats and foreshadowing focus around that thesis and it does a great job of it; no super out of left field, poorly written plot twists that you see in some other Japanese developed RPG's. Overall, if you love SRPG's, ****, and being able to play as a villain instead **** two shoes, then this game is worth trying out.

Honkai Star Rail is a turn based RPG with a similar setting to the Star Ocean series. Where this game really falls apart is the storytelling. First off, it uses the overused and bad writing trope of having an amesiac protagonist. Even worse, one of the main characters that joins your party is also an amnesiac because the writers couldn't find a good way to tell a story without shoehorned amnesia. The worst part of the storytelling is simply the game throws a bunch of terminology and then they don't explain any of it. The whole point of having an amesiac character is so that other characters can explain the world to them but that doesn't happen in this game. For instance, what is a Doomsday Beast? What is an Emanator? Who are the Anti-Matter Legion? Who is this Stephen that Herta speaks up? What is a Stellaron? Why are Aeons showing up in a simulated universe? Basically, the game throws out all these terms and characters and doesn't explain them at all which makes the world building quite awful. Later on in the game, you get access to a Database which explains some of this but even that is awful story telling: the story should be told through dialogue and cutscenes, not through some optional encyclopedia. The turn based combat and graphics of the game are quite stylish. There are some quality of life features missing. For instance, every character has an out of combat technique that they can use but the overworld UI does not tell you what each character's technique does. Either you have to memorize them all or go into the menu to look it up every time. Combat is relatively straightforward with every character having 3 moves and 1 or 2 passive abilities: a basic attack, a skill attack, and an ultimate which can be used any time you want. The goal is to target enemy weaknesses to delay enemy turns and deal extra damage. Here, the quality of life is really nice because you get to see all weaknesses displayed in and out of battle. This is one of those games where there's just so many different types of crafting materials and currency that it's hard to keep track of it all. It'd be much better if it were much more streamlined. There's a way to have crafting/buying systems without having hundreds of different types of materials /currencies on day 1. Overall, you should avoid this game if you're looking for a good story and good character development. But if you're looking for a straightforward, turn based game, this might be the game for you.

The beginning of the game states that this was a huge undertaking for an 8 person team... And it really shows. The team was so strung up on going big that they completely failed to make the basics any good. For instance, it's an open world game where you can't even jump. I noticed this being a problem since there's a farm with a super small fence around it; you have to walk completely around when a simple jump would fix this exploration issue. Your moves in battle don't even tell you what they do. The items also don't tell you how much HP or percentage HP they heal. There is no way to change the text speed. The team should focus on making the basics right before they try to do anything else. Unfortunately, the gameplay is also lackluster. This is seen in the tutorial where you are literally pressing the basic attack button 10+ times to beat a monster. If animations could be skipped, this might make it more bearable but battles are extremely slow and sluggish. There's an interesting story and premise here, but it's buried underneath the jank, PS3 graphics, lack of quality life, and numerous bugs. Heck, I even went through one cutscene where both characters mouths were shut but the subtitles showed a deep conversation going on and there were no voices whatsover. Overall, this is a rough game.

For one thing, the game establishes that Aion is super intelligent and yet, Ringo and Figue lack so much information that you would think they have access to. It just doesn't make any sense. The dungeon design is really just extremely long hall ways with lots of dead ends. It made me wish they had a dash button from Persona 5; you don't get an actual run option until late in the game. With all of the shops/locales being placed all over the city, it feels like you have to go through a myriad of loading screens just to get to the places where you want to be. It doesn't help that the story climaxes also don't make any sort of logical sense either. Additionally, Shoji Meguro didn't do the music for this so the soundtrack is quite forgettable. You go on for hour and hours with very little story progress. It doesn't help that some of the characters are extremely unlikeable. As for the SRPG portion, it really **** that all enemies start off the battle being very far from you which means every battle is just mindlessly moving forward for a bunch of turns. The Digimon capture mechanic is fine but very flawed; the type of Digimon you can capture is affected by your alignment. Speaking of your alignment, it only actually affects gameplay (what Agumon Digivolves into to) and affects story very little. I've made choices that were opposite to where the story was heading only for the story to not acknowledge my choice at all. It also had a lame amnesia plot going on too. Another Eden is a gaccha mobile game that doesn't properly explain its gaccha mechanics. It seems odd considering that they gave you basic tutorials but teach you nothing about the genre. This game expects you to have played several gaccha games in the past which is lame for newcomers to the genre. This game attempts to be a RPG, but lacks all the basic functions that turn based RPG's have i.e. you can only choose one target for your whole party to attack instead of strategically choosing targets, there is no skip function for cutscenes, and there is no function to speed up text. If I could describe this game in one word it would be this: laggy. Everything in this game has lag. Imagine if everytime you went into your menu, you have to wait 1-5 seconds just to change anything. Whenever cutscenes happen, characters spend 70% of the time emoting and when characters emote, it removes all text on the screen and you have to wait 1-3 seconds to wait for them to finish emoting before you can move on with the text. Additionally, the game takes so long to start up. In fact, sometimes it will install improperly and you have to reinstall. In fact, sometimes the game has to reinstall itself all over again for some odd reason even though it's already installed in your computer. Another thing to mention is that this game also installs malware on your computer which the devs said is safe and is only there to block cheaters. The story is a mess and it's one of those stories where science mumbo jumbo is made up on the spot to try and explain anything that doesn't make sense. Also, random people appear out of nowhere for no reason just to literally tell you where to go next because the writer was too lazy to think of an actual plot reason for you to progress through the game. Not only that but this game is chock full of mundane side quests which are just vapid fetch quests. If you are looking for a competent, straightforward RPG, you should be playing something like Chrono Trigger (which is ironic because the writer of this game wrote that game). Only play this game if you are looking for a gaccha game that is relatively nice to free to play players.

This game is essentially a gaccha game where all the units are anime girl representations of various rifles, hand guns, sub machine guns, machine guns, and assault rifles. The game attempts to have a serious story but this is one of those stories that go nowhere. There's a lot of good and interesting story points but unfortunately, all chapters end with "your princess is in another castle" so you can finish up to 10 chapters and still be strung along while the game sets up this whole buildup of M4A1 (who is the main character) only with no reasonable payoff. All the villains pretty much have the same personality as they all mainly care about "entertainment" which is pretty weak plot point for a series that is trying to be serious. In essence, this gaccha game is relatively friendly to newcomers but does a horrible job of explaining the game and its mechanics to you. Experimentation is fine but needlessly wasting resources in the beginning will have huge downsides in the long run making it a necessity to look up guides. Overall, there are better stories out there that deal with androids and the concept of free will and emotions. Only play this game if you're into waifu collecting.

The characters aren't that interesting and the plot devolves into characters saying "Oh! I had amnesia! So I have no idea who the culprit is who is causing all this bad stuff to happen!" The boss battle design is fairly atrocious. Every one of them has a percentage chance to counter a specific job skills. Oh? Did you bring a Bard to the party? Well, get ready to get counter attacked for 40% of your HP. That isn't skill based gameplay. That's just guesing and testing. Battles on the overworld are quite long and tedious. For most RPG's, you will do fine if you fight almost all your encounters until you get to the end of the dungeon and fight the boss. This is not true for this game. The best way to gain levels is to either bunch enemies up or use the lure food. The side quests are also uninteresting fetch quests or "Kill X a set amount of times" quest. This game found a way to make fetch quests even more tedious than any other RPG I've ever played. There are some quests where you have to go talk to an NPC, return to the quest NPC, then walk all the way back to the NPC, return to the quest NPC, then go all the way back to the NPC, then finally return to the quest NPC. Overall, skip this game unless you really like games with tons of classes to choose and level up from.

Late Shift is an interactive real life movie game. Your choices are timed so you need to be able to decide quickly. The premise is that the main character suddenly gets caught up in a heist and you have to navigate all the surprises and drama that comes with it. The story gets right into the action and there are varied endings depending on your choices. My only real gripe is that a game like this encourages multiple playthroughs but it gives no way to skip scenes like other choice based games.

The game is fairly fun but gets repetitive quite quickly. The game is riddled with bugs that make the gameplay experience bad. I've seen a bug where the starting mission doesn't show up which pretty much is a soft lock situation. I've seen bugs in the HARM room where the AI doesn't attack you at all. The campaign story is fairly mediocre. All of the Avengers have somewhat of a different gameplay style but what's missing is that some of the Avengers don't have a move that breaks walls. This means that if you are playing solo, you miss out on any loot/secrets that require wall breaking since your AI companions won't break the wall for you. Another sad thing is they only really put 4 villains in the game as fights, but only 3 of them are actually unique. There's 2 other bosses but those are generic and annoying to fight. Overall, the game is average and still really needs bug fixing. It's one of those games that shouldn't have been released yet because it feels so unpolished. There's some really good ideas here but not enough variety post game.

This is a point and click adventure. So Katie, you, cum home after a long trip in Europe. The home is deserted and you must investigate the reason why your sister, Samantha, is gone. Most of the things you find here are absolutely useless and the story is fairly linear. In essence, it's a point and click adventure about lesbians.
