While it may be a lot smoother and simpler than its predecessors, Empire Earth III has been dumbed down to the point of irrelevance.

Fans of the series will be sad to see that this version of Empire Earth has been stripped of the depth and detail that made the first two games so attractive. I mean, it's not as if there's a shortage of shallow RTS games already, so seeing one of our favorite series effectively lobotomized is a real shock.
PC strategy gamers have a lot to choose from on store shelves these days, and bugs, muddled combat, or weak AI aren't things that strategy fans have to live with. It pains us to admit it as fans of the franchise, but this Empire is definitely in decline.

One word: fail! This game has threw away its potential into a trash can! The most disturbing part is the fact that you can only select to play as one of those fictional nations - it becomes hard to relate to; overall this game is distasteful

Mad Doc needs to do the full makeover in the expansion. [Jan 2008, p.72]

I like Globe Domination campaign better than the old storyline driven system and I like the streamlined resource management. Unfortunately, with so many excellent RTS games (SC, CoH, WiC) on the market now EE3 can not compete. [Jan 2008]

Game Chronicles
The game does offer some old school RTS fun, but then technical glitches get in the way. The Empire Earth devs aimed for the lowest common denominator, somehow not realizing that simple and easy doesn't always equal fun.

Units get stuck on the map, breaking armies apart, and unit responses are downright annoying. The trek from the Stone Age to the future is a painful one, and all players can do is wish for it to stop.

Removing micromanagement is one thing, but when the gameplay goes out of the door with it, it becomes a serious case of throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Game Almighty
Empire Earth III doesn’t live up to the scope and complexity of its predecessors, and if anything, shames the previously good name of Empire Earth.

Game Revolution
Honestly, if the game didn't try to make you hate it, it would be perfectly tolerable, maybe even enjoyable.

Empire Earth III was an attempt to streamline the game into a pure combat focused RTS. Through simplifying a resource system and condensing epochs down from 14 to 5, it aims to make sure the battle takes the center stage. Unfortunately muddy pathfinding, lackluster animations, poor AI, and game choppiness end up ruining the experience. It's not in all a bad game when it works, and the combat does feel fast paced. It would have been a good action RTS had the developers continued working on it.

It was fun in the beginning, but it did not last very long. Sounds turned out to be quite annoying, some of the most annoying ones still stay in my head and haunt me. Boredom crept in quite fast and the replayability wasn't really there for me. It did look nice overall, technically it seemed to be made ok, but the gameplay lacked a great deal. It did not leave any significant impression in me, so I guess it's pretty average game.
