The diversity of environments significantly enriches the game and challenges experienced players in new conditions every time. It’s a hellishly good game – for me an addiction that makes me go back to it and reach for more and more. [13/2018, p.84]

A satisfying colony-building sandbox with a lot of replayability that suffers from a lack of polish in the UI. A great aesthetic and quirky sci-fi take on the genre mean there is a lot to like here, it just takes a little digging to get there.

An imaginative management game but a weak story generator.

RimWorld is simply an amazing, more visual, sci-fi themed Dwarf Fortress. An excellent colony builder, story generator and people simulator with a large and vibrant modding community. What more could you want? That's it. Short and sweet. Get it without hesitation.

Stories, stories, stories. RimWorld sets you up for an ever changing game in which only your engagement remains the same, potentially for hundreds of hours. And when you’re done with the vanilla version of RimWorld, there are thousands of mods that enhance or change the game in such a way that it is all fresh again. I am in awe of RimWorld, and it deserves a Big Fat 10 out of 10.

Rimworld is a new standard in survival/strategy sims, and has emerged from early access with grace. Now the REAL fun can begin...

This strategy game offers survival and business simulation in one package. With the player learning from trial and error, numerous unpredictable events bring additional challenges to solve, while enriching the story at the same time.

The most fun, creative experience I’ve ever had. It’s easily my number one favorite game of all time with the most hours spent playing it. At first the game may look silly, but as you play you realize the tremendous amount of complexity beneath the surface.

Very good game with a lot of replayability but the dev seems to have abandoned it, so no more improvement for the basic game only dlc expansions

A very specific game, more fun to watch on stream than to play. It has a variety of possibilities and mechanics, but it's a sandbox and has no real goal. Even though I've played a lot of "games without a goal" like Minecraft or X3, I quickly got bored with both here and Kenshi. So, if you really liked that game, try Kenshi - it's very similar and you might like it.

perhaps with mods this is better, but the DLC wont even install and the tutorial and UI are some of the worst ive run into. for a game that is supposed to have so much complexity, everything about the tutorial is visually and procedurally obtuse. the sound design is also terrible, an assault on the ears at max volume of discordant "ambience" and "music" which both appear to just be ambience. i plan to give this another shot, but my introductory experience has not left me with any desire to play more of the game. also: why do you consistently use such detailed cover art for the game, then use the most boring and mismatched artstyle possible for the actual gameplay? i like the cover art, but either make the game look like the artwork or make the artwork look like the game. it's been years, you have the time to do this, there is a massive schism between what you advertise on the box and what you are actually selling.
SummaryA sci-fi colony sim driven by an intelligent AI storyteller. Inspired by Dwarf Fortress and Firefly. Generates stories by simulating psychology, ecology, gunplay, melee combat, climate, biomes, diplomacy, interpersonal relationships, art, medicine, trade, and more.
