What makes Pikmin so fun is that you are seeing the world from new eyes, and exploring large beautiful environments.

A riot of stressful action and multitasking that's fun every time you play it. [Dec 2001, p.164]

This is a revolutionary masterpiece that brilliantly applies Shigeru Miyamoto's game design philosophy, even to console RTS-like gameplay. While it may look simple, it possesses genuine depth. I'm also a big fan of the intricate, biology-inspired creature designs, the harsh world that contrasts sharply with the cute Pikmin visuals, and the cynical humor surrounding the protagonist, Olimar.

One of the most refreshing games to come out of Nintendo in a while...It's a great adventure indeed, but when the 30 days are over and the last level is complete you find yourself feeling somewhat slighted.

You feel like the most clever person on the planet when you're able to bring in three parts a day, slaughter a few frogs, and birth seventy Pikmin without breaking a sweat...what is there is enormously fun.

The only real problem I had with the game is one you have to push "A" 71 consecutive times to pull that many Pikmin out of the ground, and with only 30 days this gets time consuming.

For the first time, real-time strategy concepts like resource building and army management feel at home on a console.

Solving the challenges was rewarding enough, but the steps one needs to take to achieve these goals become far too tedious.

- This game was an almost entirely new concept for me, which actually challenged my brain a bit. Using Pikmin as your weapon, your tools, and forgeable all in one is definitely unique.- OST is overall very weak. I understand we're on an alien planet so the music is supposed to symbolise that, but that's all it does. There no sense of feeling from any of the music, which is a shame.- The game makes it very easy for you to reset your day if you want to. Almost urges you to, which is a tool I definitely utilised. In fairness, while the game feels like kids were the target audience, there are many ways to quickly lose a majority of your Pikmin via very small mistakes. I can see why it is so easy to just restart the day.- Quite the variety of enemies I was quite impressed by.- I know In the Night Garden is a show for toddlers, but the general art style and scenery gives me those vibes.- I don't know who was possessed to do this, but on the final area, the music is very creepy. Something I might expect to hear on a play ground in the Resident Evil universe, not quite from a kids game.- This game is very small. However, it doesn't feel like the mainline quests were actually the main focus of this game. It feels more like an arcade game with quests added later to give the solo player something to do. There's definitely a 'High Score' aura about this game. Less about just beating it, and more about how little days you can beat it in. Considering that, the replayability is almost infinite, especially with the arcade mode.

The Good • The areas are very well-designed along with wonderful music and visuals. • The progression is very good. • Olimar is a wonderful character and full of charm. The Bad • The Pikmin AI is jank. They tend to trip and get stuck on things, meaning you’ll have to suddenly stop to help them. Overall Pikmin 1 still holds up as a game I want to come back to, even all these years later.

If you ask me anything about this game I would be baffled. I never understood Pikmin in any shape and form, and the strategy guide failed to bring any clarity to what I was doing. This game has a timer of 30 days, and you collect random objects as part of your mission. The game’s title comes from the creatures that are the staple of it in Pikmin. You pluck them out of the ground, and then you try to build an army of them to complete your tasks. I cannot really say anything more about this game when I simply could not understand it at all.
