I agree with other reviewers saying dlc is overpriced. Tho the roguelite mode adds something, its below expectations. Im general i have the feeling entire bananza is missing something... But im comparing it with dk 64 which was one of my favorite games of all times. This dlc i suggest get it on a sale.

This was rushed and they could’ve done more but I actually thought the emerald rush minigame was a blast to play

Some might like it and some might not, but in my opinion, the price is exorbitant for a DLC.

I don’t think they could’ve complemented this game with a dlc in a better way. The BEST part of Dk Bananza is 100% the movement and adding a rougelite mode where you are constantly dashing around the layers was so smart of them. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of this dlc, only trying a couple difficulty levels of 5/10 of the playable layers. I think the reason people hate on this dlc is 1. They haven’t accepted the choices of Nintendo’s pricing yet. Every game will be $100, every dlc will be $30 (CAD), deal with it. Even with emerald rush alone I still think this is worth $30, having played 10-15 hours of it and still wanting to do more because of how addicting it is. And 2. That they marketed DK Island to be such a big part of the dlc, when it’s just a little nostalgia buff. This would be 10/10 without Dk island, but it’s still a welcome addition. Overall this is a fun dlc to a fun game, building on DK’s amazing move set in a spectacular way.

The great game that dk bananza is makes it obvious to make a dlc. But a couple months after release seems odd, nonetheless this dlc is great with a challenging and rewarding new mode with online events I see nobody talking about that give you really cool statues. Although I wish the island had more to do outside of emerald rush it still had some nostalgic areas and when collecting the statues makes it really fun to explore

A decent rogue like mode that I'd not even see as cut content because the main game really delivers, but I don't think it's worth the price for most people.

I have been enjoying this DLC so much. Not only is the mode very fun to play, but the addition of the beautiful DK island is an amazing gift. I love gathering statues in timed events. Well worth the purchase.

The DLC is not true additional content, but it is most likely just a paywall. This is highly unfortunate. Additionally, the DLC isn't fun. The Emerald Rush gets old, and the Donkey Kong Island wasn't fleshed out properly, for the island only gives you a bit of nostalgia and that is it. My personal recommendation: You should only get Donkey Kong Bananza, but you should not get the DLC.

20 USD DLC from 80 USD base game and just 1 month after game launch. I liked base game but fans should not support all Nintendo moves to get our money

An unexpectedly enjoyable gaming experience after the main game. The creative mechanism (combining 3D platformer & roguelike ), beautiful interface and satisfying reward-based operating mode all make the whole process gratifying and addicting!

Emerald Rush is one of those things where the marketing failed it so hard that everybody hates it. It's basically the Kirby Fighters 2 of Donkey Kong, except it's actually GOOD. Don't buy it if you only want DK Island though.

Emerald Rush makes Donkey Kong Bananza insanely replayable with its Roguelite mode. If you like DK Bananza at all, this is a no-brainer for just $20. I find myself saying "Just one more Emerald Rush, and before I know it I've played for several hours.

I think videogamedunkey said it perfectly. The entirety of DK bananza was actually just the tutorial for this mode. I don’t know what everyone else is talking about because emerald rush genuinely has a lot of depth and content. First, turning DK bananza into an addictive roguelike is absolutely genius. The core gameplay loop of DK is already so satisfying with breaking and collecting things, and getting stronger with upgrades, but here that loop is cranked up to an 11 and on freaking steroids. I love that it pushes all of the game’s mechanics to the absolute LIMIT as well as encourages you to experiment and fully utilize all the games mechanics. You’re always racing around each layers and you’re always trying to move as efficiently and effectively as possible, so there’s a speed runner like fun to this mode which I love. Then there’s the perk system that provides so many different strategies, builds, and combos. Keeping track of all your perks to maximize the number of emeralds and chips you can get is so much fun. A good example is there’s a “You get more emerald if you defeat an enemy in Kong bananza more emerald” and then you can combine that with “Get more emerald if you defeat an enemy with a projectile” and then you can combine that with “More emerald when defeating buzzoids” and then you can combine that with “more emerald after you defeat an enemy during glare slow-mo time”. You can do an intricate combo where you slow mo glare, switch to Kong bananza, throw a rock at the buzzoid, and get an absurd amount of emerald and when you see that x3000+ and all the emerald shoot out, it’s one of the most satisfying feelings ever. It’s genuinely insane how crazy and hectic is can get once your build is so good that the game starts lagging and I’m genuinely surprised at these times that it just doesn’t crash with how much is going on screen. It’s so much fun when this happens though and you’re collecting like a million emeralds per second. This whole mode is basically the ultimate make your brain go full monkey mode seeing so many numbers constantly go up. The fossils, which grant perks, are always in the same location, so this rewards game knowledge and knowing the in’s and outs of the map. The same goes for bananas. I also like how the bananza’s are used. I love how lots of the perks revolve around their abilities, which encourages you to use them. I like the variety of different void goals there is, and the goals themselves add a lot of depth. They appear at various locations, so you’re always strategizing when to go for them and how to do them as quickly as possible while maxing their benefits. The other aspect I like is the replayability. There are up to 7 difficulties for each layer where quotas are higher and more rounds get added. There’s a ranking system which makes chasing high scores fun and I knew there was a rank higher than A and after a while I managed to get my first V rank, which was amazing. There’s a point reward system where you get points after each run that unlocks stuff at specific milestones. This could be new perks, outfits, and new layers. It was strange the point card unlocks wasn’t a whole lot at first and had a bunch of empty space. Then once you get all the reward and reach the credits, all that empty space is filled with EVEN MORE REWARDS, which is fantastic especially because it meant that means every major layer is playable in this mode. Also, I saw the perk screen and was shocked by the absurd number of perks that can be unlocked. I looked it up and it seems there’s 104 which is insane. Just an absurd amount of content that even after spending 15 hours, I still feel like I barely scratched the surface. All this to say, I just think it is a super fun and addictive arcade mode, and many people too easily look at the price and look at it at on a surface layer and easily dismiss it, which is a shame. Sure, this type of roguelike and high score gameplay format is not for everyone, but if you do like this type of gameplay or just love banazna, you’d definitely get your value out of this fantastic DLC.

Donkey Kong Bananza is an excellent game, but this DLC is overpriced, it doesn't have enough content to justify the price, and its content should come with the base game.

Felt ripped off. It's $20 yet it didn't have enough value to even came close to that price. It should have been a free DLC as even $10 is still asking too much. It also felt it was going to be a part ****, but was strip away to be sold as paid DLC.

To get straight to the point: it’s not worth the price.Even with new maps added, there’s nothing meaningful to **** Island does carry nostalgia, but some parts are noticeably different from how they used to be. Donkey’s house, for instance, doesn’t even belong there in the first place. This game already strays too far from Donkey Kong’s original lore, which was frustrating enough. On top of that, they throw in DK Island as fanservice for longtime nerds, only to butcher it like **** the so-called “new mode”? That should’ve been included from the **** me say it again: instead of buying this DLC, you’d be better off treating yourself to a nice ****’s been years since the last new entry, and yet this disappointing DLC is what we get.

Don't be an idiot like me and blindly give $20 for this. I loved the base game so much and have such a soft spot for DK that it was a no-brainer for me buuuuuuut ~ THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN END GAME CONTENT INCLUDED in the 2 month old release. Imagine if peach's castle in Mario Odyssey had been DLC?? DK Island is a nostaligic museum for 30 mins. No new bananas, just the new mode. Nintendo is just bending their fans over a this point and only discouraging new ones all at the same time!

Kind of fun but not 20 dollars this could have been easy part of the main game i don't understand how you just cut it out from the main game and sell it for 20 dollars a couple months after the game released...

Another case of the "New Super Greedy Nintendo Deluxe Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Cut The Content To Make Bank Like A Bowser". Please stop breaking your fans hearts, Nintendo ... </3 In the end, Nintendo selfsabotaged any chance for a Game of the Year award, by these greedy moves. The dlc that was shamelessly cut from the main game, is all people are talking about, when evaluating who should deserve the title. Karma.

An example that highly replayable is not necessarily fun. But, the real problem here is the asking price, and how Nintendo is milking the base.

It's just a monotonous task of repeatedly destroying emeralds. This is some of the most boring additional content I've ever seen. They should make new game levels instead of this kind of thing.

Good just not worth the price, should have been a free update. The emerald mode is fun for two minutes and the island is nostalgic and cool to explore, but for 20 dollars it's a big no no. You could buy silksong which is an entire fullgame for that price

Absolutely a rip off for how much content you get for $20, especially considering they launched it just 2 months after the game releasing, Nintendo becoming even more greedy than usual.

There is not much content here to begin with and what you get is disappointing. DK island should be a great throwback and it is but there are no real reasons to explore, all you get is 5 bonus levels which we already seen on the main game. As for the emerald rush it's just a rogue lite for collecting gold and in reality it lacks what makes that genre interesting and the speed it often has. Overall skip this... which is a shame considering the base game is amazing

Shameless cash grab containing content obviously cut from the base game to milk more money from the player. DK Island is just nostalgia bait - one new island with no banananas, fossils, or really any reason to explore at all. S The new roguelike element is cute but not worth the price at all.

Loved the main game. Over 200 hours of play, and I’m already on my third playthrough. At this point, I should probably list it as a part-time job on my résumé. The base game alone is worth $70 — especially if you went physical, since it’ll always hold a $50 trade or resale value. (Not that I’d ever trade mine, but hey, nice to know it’s basically gaming currency.) So when Nintendo surprise-dropped the DLC on Friday 9/12 for $20, it was a no-brainer. And wow — what a treat. This expansion is a big, glorious rogue-like romp across six of the game’s areas, plus a brand-new Donkey Kong Island. You can even decorate it with nearly 100 collectible 3D statues, which I’m proudly hoarding like a pixelated interior designer with a banana obsession. The game eases you in, but once you climb from difficulty levels 2 through 6, things get serious fast. Each new layer adds more devious layouts, and the challenge ramps up harder than a Mario Kart blue shell. I’m already 20+ hours deep into the DLC, nowhere near done with all the layers, and I’ve only collected 40 out of 100 statues. So yes, this thing has **** short: the DLC is fun, frantic, and dangerously addictive arcade gaming. It’s absolutely worth $20. Stop whining that Nintendo should’ve made it free — the base game was already absurdly generous. If you love rogue-likes and Donkey Kong, this is an instant buy. If you’re too busy being mad about the price… then don’t buy it. We’ll be over here having fun while you yell at clouds. :)

A really good and well done DLC. The new soundtrack hasn't got that many songs but all of them are excellent. DK's Island is cool and full of references to past games, and the new statues' shop is... useless, but cool. The things gets better with Emerald Rush, an amazing and really fun gamemode that also allows you to unlock new music disks and amazing outfits. The replayability of this DLC is huge, with tons of levels of difficulty and the possibility to do the Emerald Rush in 7 layers. A really good DLC for an already amazing game.
