It seems interesting Played the trail and it wasn’t enough to buy the full game The price is ok but still I feel that I can wait to get it discounted It’s not something you’ve never tried before It has some kind of. Nostalgia factor It’s not the first game nor will it be the last of the same concept

With Directive 8020, Supermassive Games achieves exactly what many fans have been hoping for for years: the tried-and-tested Dark Pictures formula isn't reinvented, but meaningfully developed further. The blend of science fiction horror, moral choices, and survival gameplay works exceptionally well. This is supported by a strong story, believable characters, and by far the best technology the series has offered to date. While the new gameplay mechanics can't eliminate every repetition, the overall experience is excellent.

It’s great to see Supermassive Games taking a different approach—and it’s certainly a successful one. I’m already looking forward to the next installments. I’d also love to see another larger-scale game like *The Quarry* again at some point.

For me, this is the best *Dark Pictures* installment so far. I found the story, the monster animations, and the characters interesting. Please keep it up. My only criticism: please bring back the Curator to the usual extent. He’s simply an essential part of it.

It’s a game that disappointed me in several ways. I felt that many classic elements from the franchise were removed, including mechanics that were actually really good and helped make the experience more engaging. In the end, it felt like a step backwards for the series. The plot also didn’t convince me, i found it weak and not very interesting, and the characters failed to be engaging. On top of that, there are too many stealth sections, which make the pacing feel slow and dragged out at times

Directive 8020 nails its promised The Thing in space and delivers Supermassive’s familiar blend of choice and consequence with a surprisingly tight and consistent roadmap. The muddy atmosphere pairs well with the sci-fi horror themes and, despite a slow start, characters share interesting dynamics that play well with the fear that the enemy could be anyone you know. A cinematic payoff hides a variety of endings that overall feel satisfying depending on your decisions throughout. Sadly, 8020 isn’t without its too familiar hiccups. Stealth mechanics introduced to provide some engagement between scenes is overly simplistic and largely unnecessary given they can be circumvented by just, well, not stealthing. Inspirations are clear as day but prevent the game itself from crafting an identity of its own, further muddying the waters with out of place licensed tracks that rob veteran Jason Graves of his otherwise solid soundtrack. Overall, fans of the genres, both narrative and sci-fi horror, are absolutely going love this tense and unsettling jaunt through space, and the story does have some nifty twists that lead to thoughtful cast contemplation while consistent choice to consequence outcomes make the payoff impactful.

Directive 8020 delivers a tense, atmospheric and visually stunning sci‑fi experience, with a focus on narrative, characters and psychological suspense. It is gripping from start to finish and sets a strong tone for the anthology's new phase.

The characters are boring and forgettable, hard to care about decisions when you're indifferent to who lives or dies and this is what happens when ideology is a requirement. The story fails to build any tension or intrigue for what the experience was aiming to be, which is damaging in this genre, don't get me started on the direction and editing. Cinematic horror lives or dies on narrative and character investment, this delivers neither. Worse, the gameplay mechanics are virtually non-existent. No combat, no meaningful interaction, just cutscenes and occasional prompts. The graphics and character movement are painfully average for a 2026 release. Narrative choice games can be brilliant but they demand so much more to accompany them. This belongs in a $10 bin, not the full retail price. Not just a disappointment, an embarrassment.

I'm so glad the another Dark Pictures Anthology game has been released since I really loved the decision game designs since Season 1. But there are some cons in this game like some facial animations are weird, and some voice acting aren't serious. But overall it's a real good horror sci-fi game. The gameplay is QTE, decision making, and silent sneaking just not to be caught. Now you'll experience a cinematic experience while playing a game. Different choices comes with different outcomes so choose wisely.

I don't understand all the negative ratings. I think this is one of the best Supermassive Games ever. There are multiple plot twists and endings. The graphics and voice acting are fantastic. Please keep it up in the next installments.

Works really well for the most part. The story is really ambitius and interesting for the most part. While I wish a little more was done with it, it does allow for some pretty cool moments throughout the game. The characters are pretty solid, even if the voice acting does feel a little off at times. The graphics are really just amazing and the story does allow for some pretty great twists and turns, as well as many different paths to explore. Also love the way you can jump back and forth through the story.

As a huge fan of both Alien and John Carpenters's The Thing, I was eagerly anticipating Directive 8020, but to be frank, it's terrible. I loved Until Dawn and have watched the other Supermassive games played on stream. They're not always great, but at the very least they're entertaining. Directive 8020 isn't entertaining, scary or even unintentionally funny, just tedious. Bizarre decisions made around the game's narrative structure drain any tension from proceedings, the gameplay is awful and consists mainly of interminable stealth sequences (and I like stealth games), quick time events and meaningful choices seem stripped way back compared to other Dark Pictures games and the deaths seem extra arbitrary in this one. A late game twist is completely nonsensical and the developers, although copying the narrative beats of the The Thing almost verbatim, seem to have fundamentally misunderstood what makes The Thing a tense, paranoia-drenched horror classic. A major part of the fun of these games is replaying them, making different narrative choices and watching the tapestry of cause and effect unfold in unexpected and interesting ways. Unfortunately Directive 8020 is so dramatically inert, the dialogue so painful and the gameplay so tedious that I can 't even be bothered to suffer through it a second time. I've awarded it three stars as the visuals are a cut above most Dark Pictures games. The ship is visually impressive with high quality rendering and some atmospheric lighting. It's just such a shame the impressive visuals are in service of such a dud of a narrative. Disappointing.

Fantastic game. Too many sneaking sections to the point where it started feeling incredibly repetitive. Other than that, solid game.

GG, beautiful game New mechanics Will love to replace it for all the ending, butterfly effect game. Act 3 and im having a blast... story so good. 44 deaths in total. Only one character died by my choices act 3. Why I love about this new one, your choices matters updraded lately to a 9... 4 hours in ... they allo you to répond, but im a harcore Iron man. Loving it.

My friends and I have played every Dark Pictures game couch co-op, and we LOVED this experience. Directive 8020 is a great sci-fi thriller with an engaging story, fun action, and beautiful visuals. Your choices are more important and numerous than ever, and the game has great quality of life improvements from its predecessors. The game introduces new stealth-based gameplay sections where your ability to avoid being caught also has consequences. While the sections can get tedious in later parts of the game, they are usually forgiving. Overall, we’d highly recommend this game for fans of horror and story-driven games!

Directive 8020, the new game from Supermassive Games, which is notably responsible for the much-loved Until Dawn, is a decent experience, but far from memorable. Here we find ourselves in our spaceship, the Cassiopeia, alongside our crew on a mission to save humanity. From the beginning, we are very quickly immersed in the atmosphere, the scenario is quickly set up (compared to previous Dark Pictures) and the characters are still well "written", less clichés, fewer insufferable or completely stupid characters and it feels good even if it remains very **** regret that the evolution of relationships between our various characters is still based on exchanges via text messages (yes); they are not very useful and break the rhythm. Graphically, the game is beautiful, the artistic direction remains rather generic and the facial/general animations are better than before. The gameplay is finally moving in the right direction, we can really "run", the characters react better to our movements and it’s nice. However, the different phases of gameplay are very repetitive over time; we’re on a "hide-and-seek" mechanism with entities, or an exploration one with riddles that have been seen and reviewed to move forward. So we’ll note the effort to improve the gameplay, but it’s still quite simplistic and warmed up in 2026... On the other hand, the scenario remains breathless; I often sat down to theorize and reflect on the outcome. We will still regret a significant decrease in QTE which actually decreases the fear of losing a character. Everything will really be decided only at the end (as very often). Directive 8020 remains a good experience in terms of choice and continues in the line of The Dark Pictures, nothing surprising, but enough to spend a good evening alone or with friends.

I've played every game in the series & I throughly enjoyed this game. It was fun, pretty scary at spots & all around a good ride. The only thing for me that kept it from a 10 was that in order to change your decisions, you had to replay the entire story again from that spot. But my least favorite of the series is Devil in Me which was not very scary, rather boring & the only time I couldn't wait for a game to end so Directive 8020 was definitely a ginormous step up from that. Overall a great game, would definitely recommend.

So far, so good (the story), but the gameplay is average. The worst part for me is that if I want to test a different choice, I have to replay the whole story. In my opinion, that's a really bad mechanic.

I really liked how the game captures the tension between various events and makes the consequences of your actions feel important. The stealth gameplay adds something fresh to this new installment, although they can be quite repetitive at times. Enemy NPC's can also be a little buggy when chasing you. The overall jump scares and sense of terror are amazingly done well, making the game intense and memorable.

One thing I wish was better is the screentime distribution between the main cast. Some characters feel more developed than others, and I think the story would have been stronger if every cast member had more balanced focus. I also wanted more depth about why the alien specifically attacks the crew, because the threat is interesting, but the explanation could have been explored **** horror atmosphere is there, but for me, it lacks those big “AAAHHHHH” moments that make you and your friends panic together. It feels more tense than shocking, but not always in the most exciting way.I do appreciate Supermassive trying something new with the stealth minigames. It is an interesting approach, but honestly, it feels a bit meh to me. I personally prefer the Until Dawn-style QTE events, like “don’t move the controller” or making quick choices during stealth moments. Those mechanics create more suspense, especially when playing with friends who are mostly not gamers. It is easier for everyone to understand, but still stressful in a fun way.

I’m a huge fan of the Dark Pictures franchise, but this one was not what I expected… It felt really different, but not in a good way for **** game was kind of boring and only became interesting around the middle of Chapter 6. I truly had fun only during the last chapter. Chapter 8 finally felt like a Dark Pictures game. The positives: Good story. The negatives: The new mechanics (hide and seek) were overly used… It’s nice maybe 2 or 3 times max, but after that it becomes repetitive. There wasn’t enough tension, not enough QTEs (except at the end, where they were great), no Curator anymore, no more premonitions… I hope the next game will be better !

Directive 8020 is a gripping sci-fi horror adventure blending paranoia, cinematic storytelling, and meaningful choices. The alien threat creates constant tension, while the eerie atmosphere and impressive visuals keep players immersed. Despite slightly repetitive stealth sections, it stands as one most ambitious titles.

Very creepy game. The sound design was very good. The atmosphere was a big creep fest and the plot was one of the better ones for the series. The stealth was done well although it got repetitive towards the end. It would have been better for replayability if you could skip through dialogue you've already watched in previous playthroughs. The twists and turns of the game were pretty good and the suspense was very good throughout also. I think horror movie fans would enjoy.

I applaud Supermassive for trying something new with Directive 8020, in that they made it more interactive and coherent. While I don't think it's the best in the series, it's definitely the most polished. The twist lands a bit flat and I must say that I don't like the absence of the dark pictures (loved the foreshadowing and, especially, the one hinting at the next game), but the stealth sections were a nice addition, even though they got repetitive, and the cast is, for once, SMART! But, at the end of the day, they are astronauts and not teenagers, so it figures that they wouldn't be as stupid as the teens from Quarry or Until Dawn. Just hope they continue with the series because it's hinting at great things!

Story 9/10 Characters 10/10 Gameplay 7.5/10 The story and characters slapped, the gameplay was just fine. I was on the edge of my seat throughout and eagerly looking forward to replaying. There's a lot more to the stealth sections than meets the eye, like a lot of players I played very passively and avoided the enemies but you can actually handle it in different ways.

I've enjoyed so many of Supermassive's games in the past decade and each one seems to improve a little bit in one way or another. This iteration improves the movement and actions significantly and feels really good to control during exploration sections. This game also features the ability to instantly explore each branching path at critical moments which is amazing for those looking to see every possible outcome, the only downside is certain events get locked in from decisions early on and there's no way to just change things and skip forward to the outcome. Game looks great on PS5 Pro and the atmosphere and tone is very fitting for this creepy space story. However it's not the most cohesive story. There are a lot of cringy dialogue but the story was interesting enough and kept me wanting to see what was going to happen next. One gameplay mechanic that kind of annoyed me early on is the stealth sequences. I thought it was a cool addition the first time but it just kept happening throughout the game I quickly got bored of it especially noticing the AI will just loop around and continue to say the same things until you reach the next objective. There were several instances where I was in a corner and the AI just walked right by me. I get this was probably to test the feature out but it was far overused and undercooked in my opinion. I love these types of games so much but the amount stealth sequences need to be reduced significantly or heavily polished if they are to continue including them in future games. What was here in the stealth segments just does not match the quality of the rest of the game.

Directive 8020 is a very good surprise and a game I really enjoyed. The gameplay is simple and easy to learn, which allows you to quickly focus on the most important part: the story and the atmosphere. Narrative games like this are among my favorite types of games, and this one does a great job of keeping you interested from beginning to end. The story is especially engaging and keeps the tension high throughout the experience. As the game progresses, the pressure increases, especially near the end where every choice starts to feel stressful and important. This is also one of the few weaknesses of the game in my opinion: early on, some choices do not feel impactful enough or lack immediate consequences. Visually, the game looks very clean on PS5 Pro, with strong graphics that help the immersion a lot. The idea of the multiplayer mode is also excellent, even though I have not had the chance to try it yet. It adds strong replay value, just like the different endings. The game is fairly short if you only do one playthrough, but it almost feels necessary to start at least a second run to discover different choices and see how the story can evolve.Overall, a solid 8/10 for an immersive and effective narrative experience.

Is there no more development or evolution for this type of game? This game company has regressed since its 10-year-old game, Until Dawn.

I feel so abused by this game. Listen, I am not a hater, I love supermassive games I played them all on day one. I love this type of games and I will continiue to love them. But I cannot defend something that does not deserve to be defended, this is by far the worst Dark Pictures, it has unnecessary boring stealth and there is too much of it, they removed two best things about dark picture, DARK PICTURES themself, there are no premonitions in this game, also there is no Curator who finally seemed to have a bigger role in Devil in Me. Scenes do not add well to each other, from cinematography standpoint it is dreadful. Also charging 50 euros is crazy. If it costed like 30 eu like any other Dark Pictures game I would be ok with it, I would even say that for that money it can be really good game, but for 50 it seems like somebody stole money from me

Great dark pictures game. One of my favorite. The twist was great, gameplay/cutscene balance was perfect. The scary factor is also balanced. Has some serious performance issues in chapter 4, and sneak sections aren't great when you play the game for a 2nd time but other than that everything was perfect.

I love the Supermassive games and was really eager to dive into this. But about 4 hours in I don't think I want to play it anymore. The stealth is a terrible choice and poorly executed. I got to the point where I started running because I was so bored with it and it made no difference. I didn't care when the characters died because they were not likeable. Then on top of all that the dialogue is absolute cringe, much more so than normal with lines like "My face has muscles in it, so I use them to smile," or another guy who just starts randomly telling another crewmate out of nowhere what his dead husband's concept of the afterlife was. I have zero interest in the rewind feature because the fun of these games for me is making terrible choices and watching the chaos unfold. I don't even care to do that here.
