Put up with its farcical levels of misogyny and you'll find an approachable, satisfying fighting game that feels smoother and looks sharper than it ever has before. [Issue#160, p.100]

Judged purely on its mechanical merits, Last Round can be considered a narrow success. [Apr 2015, p.94]

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round is an excellent ending point for this chapter of the series. It takes all of the groundwork laid in DoA5 and polishes it off in the best way possible. Armed with an excellent roster of characters and a ton of modes, this is a great introduction to 3D fighting on the new generation of fighters. Just be prepared to be smothered with DLC options.

Fenominal fighting game and one of the best DOA around. There's a looooooot of DLC costumes which honestly come off as greed by the developer, but they can be absolutely ignored. The game has enough unlockable constumes at base.

La historia no es su punto fuerte aunque se nota el esfuerzo por algo distinto. Tienen una buena jugabilidad, excelentes gráficos y buen sonido, muy recomendable.

Honestly I didn't suspect myself to like this game as much as I did, but easy trophies and cute girls make for a dangerous combo. While this is my first entry in the series, I am thankful that I got into at the time that I did. Koei Tecmo doesn't have the best DLC practices, and while I do plan to play some of the older games along with DOA Extreme games, I know this game was the better one to get into. Learning all the tutorials was surpisingly hard compared to most other tutorials, but it does go fairly in-depth with everything. While I still largely button mash while playing this game, I do want to get better at it and actually learn how to properly block and such. The story mode in this game is fairly nonsensical, and honestly wish it worked with it's silly side more because the drama in Dead or Alive isn't good. Still I plan to get into the rest of the series because of this game, and I have a bunch of new girls to look at. Overall huge win.

It might be decadent, and looking at the screenshots in this review will tell you if it's a decadence that make you uncomfortable, but the gameplay behind it is rock solid and perfectly precise.

The definitive DOA for your PS4. Old content greatly outweighs the new. Still plays like a dream. [April 2015, p80]

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round is meant for those who didn't play the original game on PS3 and Xbox 360: it's the most complete version to date, brought to you with 1080p and 60fps. Enjoy. The others should keep their money for the sixth episode.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round offers a decent value to newcomers and will please dedicated DOA fans with the improved visuals and performance and additional content.

For the stalwart fan, it’s possible that Last Round contains just enough additions and upgrades to make a purchase necessary, especially when you consider its budget pricing, but for the less committed it may not be enough. Meanwhile, for those yet to play Dead or Alive 5, Last Round is the most complete and attractive version of an enjoyable, albeit ostentatious, fighter despite a few minor issues.

When all is said and done, DOA 5 ends up being a great looking, middle of the road fighter that still heavily relies on absurd female characters in revealing outfits to sell copies.

If you want all the costumes etc then you need a big wallet. This is not the typical fighter I normally play and I didn't expect to like it but everything just gels. It is a great pick up and play. Easy to grasp, great fun, great roster. Looks nice. Better than DoA 6. It's easy to recommend. It just works.

Out of all the games to get re-released I never thought that Dead or Alive 5 would be one of them. Hello everyone B-rod here, and I know normally I start with some sad pun, but this is so surprising that it got a re-release that I am just slack jawed. I played this fight game back in 2012 when it was first released and I have to say I didn't miss it one bit. The story is, is... oh **** I haven't got the slightest clue. The first half is about these fighters all being recruited to fight in the Dead or Alive tournament. While the second half is about ninjas taking on some even corporation that was doing something nefarious. The story jumps in the timeline so much I can''t keep the continuity straight. I'm honestly not sure what the hell was going on in this game. I have never played any of the other four Dead or Alive games so I don't know if this story fits with them or if this is some new and original bull****. All I can say is I am not into whatever they were throwing at me. I will say about 90% of the reasons on why the characters would fight was just either funny or **** stupid. Seriously sometimes it would be, "Hey you bumped into me, lets fight!". The story is about 3-4 hours long depending on how good you are and such. The story isn't hard until you get to the end boss fight and they whiped my ass as if I was a toddler in the UFC. If you're into the story that is awesome, but if you're new maybe read the wiki before starting. The game looks pretty damn good. I dug on how the characters would sweat, and get all scuffed up in the fight. The arenas get a bit repetitive but they are destructible and that in fighting games is a must. Team Ninja of course had their ridiculous boob physics. This game will offend people with the recent sexism in gaming. While the ladies in Dead or Alive are BAMF they are overly sexualized to the point that even I would start to think is someone supposed to get off on this? Of course I would immediately never want to find out. Anyways the game looks freaking good. The voice acting is about as good as a anime so it is just ok and over acted. The gameplay is the reason why Dead of Alive has five games. This is very complicated. At the surface you can do what I do and just button mash to victory, or you can learn how to play and know how to counter multiple ways, and do combos, and wipe the floor with your opponent in mere minutes. Besides a graphic upgrade though I didn't see any improvements from the original Dead or Alive 5. I will say I avoided the online because I know I **** and didn't feel like committing suicide this week. I will say the tag team fighting is nice, while it isn't the first game to do it, this was still nice to have. The roster has a good amount of characters not too few, but also not so large that you can't master everyone. Overall I enjoy this game, but only as a rental. If I bought this it would be on the shelf never picked up again. The fighting is deep and complicated much like how they tell this story that jumps around to no end. If you're into the series getting this on the next gen seems like a good way to spend the weekend, but to newcomers I don't see this winning you over. I give this a 3.5 out of 5, it was short and confusing, but the fighting is a large amount of fun and the reason why people will stay. I leave with a question. Is Dead or Alive anyones' favorite fight game franchise? I've never met anyone who loved these games.

A well-made fighting game, and much simpler than the other titles. The graphics is honestly prev-gen for today's standards. Too bad the story mode is lackluster and the DLCs are overkill for sure.

Basically the same game as the last two installments with very little to keep a solo-player interested (besides the forgettable story mode). No tasks or challenges to unlock content - Some costumes are unlockable by blindly grinding fights (it gives you no indication of how to do this). I got tired of that, so found the cheat code that unlocked all costumes. Well, I mean 15% of costumes - the rest are all DLC and the game proudly shows this to you each time you try to pick a costume for a character. I don't buy DLC, so lost interest in the game within two days. Well, at least the character models are nice...

This is like an inferior version of Tekken. Tekken at least had very charming yet simplistic gameplay with an impressive array of fun characters. While DOA may boast a big selection of its own, the fighting and the characters themselves do not come close at all to the those of Tekken regarding finesse and design, not to mention that DOA has very poor characters in terms of personality and personal appeal; they form a really dull and unsatisfying palette for inadequate battles. Speaking of which, the battles do not last long at all, and even if they did they are nowhere near as enjoyable as Tekken. The mechanics can be sometimes flawed as when trying to jump or dodge they require you to press the button with considerable force in addition to poor performance of any holds or combos in battle. As a matter of fact, i do not think this game even values dodging or avoiding in battle, it's all chaotic, ridiculously and mindlessly fast-paced, as well as extremely uninteresting. The purpose of a fighting game is to have intense yet proper and at times logical forms of fighting and fighting mechanics to establish solid game-play, but the programming of these elements in the game make it seem ridiculous and frustrating. Blocking sometimes cannot be activated when there is an incoming barrage of attacks, but the combos altogether make such defense useless when it cannot be protected against. With that being said, certain moves when done correctly are sometimes unresponsive on screen. As for the story, or lack thereof, the characters may be bad enough for being the selling point of the whole thing in regards to how they are dressed and look, but also their poor dialogue and forced "ambition" and "drive" neither seem natural nor compatible. It all comes off as cheap, highly scripted, and extremely cliche rather than anything of originality or hint of an aspiring narrative; if the storyline and characters are not able to get you hooked from the start, and in this game they don't, there is nothing for them to offer at any other point in the story. Even the relationships between certain characters seem manufactured as are their behavior and emotions. They just dont fit together especially in the context of the story. From the arenas to the the characters to the combos, I still couldn't manage to keep playing the game for more than twenty minutes no matter how many varieties I ended up with. For me, it was going to end up as an unsatisfactory short battle that I would do more manually than actually trying to find some joy and challenge in this game with any sort of emotional investment. Nothing positive to get back. Heck even the graphics had their own bit of setbacks at various points and were not able to contribute anything significant to the lacking experience.Which is why for the effort and the "content" in this game I can barely give it a three.
