Castlevania Requiem combines two of the best games in the Castlevania series. However, it does just that. The bare-bones presentation and weird mistakes keep this from becoming a must own collection.
85
For die-hard fans of the series, there is nothing new to be found here, but for those who never had a chance to get their hands on any of the Castlevania titles, this collection would be a perfect start to enter the Castlevania world.

Castlevania Requiem lets players get their hands on two excellent games, so even though it offers little else, it is still a worthwhile purchase.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a legendary action-adventure that helped define the Metroidvania genre. Its incredible atmosphere, satisfying exploration, memorable soundtrack, and deep progression system make every discovery rewarding. While some elements show their age, it remains an essential classic.

It is a wonderful combo of two great games. I only miss some quality of life improvements such as photo and music galleries, save states, rewind feature (although it is not needed for enjoyment of the games).

I played Symphony of the Night for 40 mins, beat the 2 boss associates and progressed further until I versed an enemy swinging a massive ball. I see the appeal, but to be honest, exploration and looking through every nook and cranny is a lot more boring than expected; I don't just want a potion or a trivial relic, I want fun dialogue and side characters, but Maria showed up, said nothing of substance and then left. Then with the combat itself, it was fun, but spamming square, crouching, and then sometimes using special got boring really quickly. The combat feels restricted and could have felt more addictive in 3D. The enemies look boring and are killed the same way. The music was alright, and the best thing about the game is its art design. It's a good game, but I am not in a rush to complete it anytime soon.

It may not feature perfect ports but Castlevania Requiem still contains 2 of the best games ever made. However, after playing through these gems, it's hard not to feel bittersweet. On one hand, the era of perfectly crafted gaming experiences has passed in favour of Hollywood-style rubbish and wannabe indie developers. On the other, enjoying these timeless classics again is an absolute treat.

A wonderfully nostalgic mix of beautiful pixels, rousing music and sometimes brutal difficulty.

Must play.

Castlevania Requiem brings to modern consoles what made the franchise successful in the first place. Requiem is not perfect and offers little extra in terms of modernization, but it stays true to the original vision.

Bundling two of Konami's most beloved games should have been the easiest sale in the world. Instead, what is here is something that doesn't quite hit the mark. The ports are competent, but they could have been so much more. Instead, it seems like effort was spent on including meaningless features that don't really benefit anyone. Introducing force feedback to old games just seems like a bad idea in general. Still, Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood are classics. They deserve to be played, even if it is through Castlevania Requiem.

In essence, Castlevania Requiem is a mediocre port of two extremely good games. Fans will enjoy the chance to play them again — if they haven't already purchased copies for other consoles — but it's far from the definitive version of the games. This collection offers two excellent games for $20, which isn't a bad deal as long as players only expect what it says on the package: two Castlevania titles that they've probably played before.

While Rondo of Blood is entertaining enough, the lack of extras and the inferior version of Symphony of the Night being included in this package is sure to disappoint.

Rondo of Blood: I absolutely love Maria Renard in this game. She is very agile and powerful, yet very cute (KAWAII Japanese cuteness). Maria cutscenes are the most kawaii moment in castlevania games. Symphony of The Night: The best music in game history, maybe 2nd after Final Fantasy 6 (which is the best of the best I think). Awesome gameplay, but Bloodstained Ritual of The Night is better (Koji Igarashi made both these games)

This is not the PlayStation version you remember. This is a port of the PSP version. The voice acting and dialogue has been changed in small but impactful ways. If you want to hear Dracula’s cheesy opening speech, you’re out of luck. No “What is a man...” speech here. Still a great game. But was hoping for the original PlayStation version, but this will do I suppose.

As much as I love both games, it comes of as being very lazy port. Pixelated illustrations, awful looking menus and lack of any add-ons makes it pretty poor adaptation which does both great games no justice.
