an incredible cinematic experience, ruined by terrible UX design. All too often a wonderful cool event will happen and just as it is winding down with the music still playing a damn tutorial will appear, completely taking me out of it. This is even with tutorials on minimum. There is also the issue of the NPCs telling you the solutions to puzzles before you get the chance to even look around properly. it's infuriating to be given a puzzle and then a second later the NPC says, oh you should try and hit that over there. The UX design is ABSOLUTELY the number 1 reason this didn't win game of the year. Guys, when you release this for PC can you please sort out the UX design. Also, the menu system and the excessive stats and upgrades could do with being reworked. This game is so damn confusing in that department.

I just spent an hour stuck, trying to figure out how to continue. finally gave in and looked online and discovered that a vital object is COMPLETELY MISSING therefore it is impossible for me to continue. This is the last straw, I'm not giving this game any more passes. The game is a broken and buggy mess. I was willing to forgive a lot and recommend this, but now I cannot. This game has been out for a long time, a bug as bad as this should have been fixed by now. despicable.

Initial impressions, after prologue and fair way into chapter 1. The game has unmistakeable charm and has some engaging gameplay elements that are fundamentally robust. So far though, there are several issues that mar the experience. There are enemies that can drop on your head and there seems to be literally zero sign that it's going to happen. I don't find this to be a satisfying 'challenge'. The text sometimes has a tendency to auto advance with very little apparent reason, posing major problems for slower readers. The menu has a very strange arrangement, which can make it confusing to find the item you want to inspect. why aren't the cooking ingredients in the cooking tab for example? why isn't the backpack just on the same tab as quest items? why is the quest screen and the map screen, inbetween the quest items and the backpack? bizarre and nonsensical. The pacing also seems really slow so far. despite that, the pace at which I'm collecting quest items seems to suggest the game is really short. Other issues... The stuttering. I'm playing on an R7 with a rtx 2080 and 32gb ram. My system should not be struggling with this game. when I see electrical cables sparking, I tend to avoid them, yet the game wants you to interact with then, connecting and disconnecting live wires. to say this is irresponsible is an understatement. kids will be playing this.

horrible inconsistent design. some things look like platforms and are, the bit right next to it looks exactly the same but isn't a platform. things that don't look like walls turn out to be walls.spikes hurt you, except when the spikes aren't actually there but are foreground artwork but look exactly the same as the others. the game even gives you extra abilities and doesn't even tell you. the game is telling you to use your feather to get past a bear, but your ability to float with a feather doesn't work and the game completely neglects to tell you that a special move with the feather is now in your menu. it was at that point that I am done with the game. I can't take any more of the frustration. because there has been A LOT of it, so many things, like getting stuck in walls, controls not responding, enemies action totally stupid and throwing themselves into spikes for no reason, multiple useless systems that add nothing to the core game experience.

bad bad awful. the DLC in this game is terrible design from the interns. the paragon interrupts make no sense, the paragon dialogue options are absolutely NOT virtuous in nature. The skirmish at the hotel is triple bad, it starts you in a pit with no effective cover and throws fast advancing enemies to pin you there, making you flounder like a fish in a bucket. random spawn locations for the enemies is not skilful, it is WHACK, totally lacking in good design conventions present throughout the main game.

I fell in love with this game within half an hour of starting it and I love it more and more every time I play it. the art is gorgeous, the music is atmospheric, the gameplay is widely varied, fun, engaging, well implemented, the story constantly reaches new depths and becomes more intriguing all the time. I don't understand how an indie developer makes this game... this is a strong contender for my game of 2021. An absolute joke. Remember some of the best quests and characters and events in wow? Shadowlands gives you none of this. Remembers the most boring zones such as desolace? Shadowlands provides lots of this. The writing is awful, with huge plotholes and stuff that just doesnt make sense. There are hardly any unique characters, and those that are unique dont even have their own unique model, so they look the same as everyone else. You are locked to a linear quest and have literally zero choice on where you can go and what to do. This is an insult to all that has come before.

I am getting just about sick and tired of wasting my money on these games by experienced studios that can't get the FUNDAMENTAL BASICS of good design. I mean.. sure.. every time I die, it is so useful to put the cursor on 'settings' because that is definitely what I want to do every time I die. I'm revising my review after playing past the intro and the second planet. This game is a mess. The graphical issues are bad enough. the stuttering is bad enough. What I can't put up with is the inability to climb over a pipe that is running along teh floor, whilst able to climb on crates and oddly shaped exploded cannisters. there is nothing behind teh pipe even, but for some arbitrary reason there is an invisible wall. it just gets worse the more i play it, with such bizarre things as this, and other things. I've just about had it with going to the planet choice screen and accidentally opening the map of the planet, because woe betide they put that on the actual map button. the one that isn't being used for anything in that particular screen. I come across a broken door deep into a dungeon and I miraculously gain the ability to smash it open, but for some reason, I have passed dozens of the exact same broken door and nothing happened. I pass multiple little statues and yet when it comes to one particular statue, all of a sudden BD thinks this one is of note, even though it really isn't. There is no rhyme or reason to any of the 'design' decisions in this game and i can't take it any longer. I'm fed up of the game showing me a place I can go and then punishing me for it, showing me pointless stuff that has literally no semantic value, giving me pointless 'skins' for a lightsaber that is so small on the screen I can't even see the skins on it. The game is an embarrassment to Respawn.

The art is horribly inconsistent. you have a cartoony looking hero amongst a world of realistic textures and low importance NPC's that are rendered in a semi realistic way. The quality of the graphics on their own is incredibly bad, most notably in the 'dream sequence' where the trees and grass are the level of a wii game. The voice acting is utterly awful. I look at the characters face and they are emoting very strongly and I can just imagine what the japanese voice track would sound like, but that is not given as an option in the game. The story has interesting ideas in it, but the way it is presented is quite bad, with characters flying in to save the day at the last moment, having previously given no indication they could fly. the way it is presented is pure deus ex machina, before the first chapter starts. The environments are cluttered and busy right from the offset and came across quite overwhelming. there aren't even any artistic cues to help environment traversal. at one point there was a set of stairs that led to the objective but because of the angle and the colour of them, they looked just like one of the crates that littered the area. This is a small subset of numerous issues. The game is bad. so bad it is shocking.

I play games to take away any anger and to relax. this game did the opposite. I started it feeling intrigued, I ended up shutting it off feeling enraged and irrationally violent. I don't know what the designer were thinking but they clearly had zero interest in introducing the character or the world or the gameplay in any sensible way. I have no idea who this guy is, what he does, what is important to him, why I should care about him, or the world he is in, or the things he does. I have zero lead in to learn how the game is structured, what the game style is, what the focus is, what i can do, how to do it, what are the advantages, disadvantages, etc. The director of this game needs to go back to school. I am not getting any gratification watching some soldier balk at me for 10 minutes and then drop me on a rooftop. this is the most sloppy and lazy introduction to a game that a designer can do.

gameplay: no real opportunity to experiment. you fight a monster, it's gone. for the most part, in most areas, they don't come back, so how do you experiment? also, the battles go on for so long on normal, you get so fed up and if you get the wrong combination, you are screwed. and on easy you basically cheese the enemies so hard, your materia strategy is hardly even effective anyway. incredibly annoying minigames that catch you off guard and in some cases are impossible for some players. story: complete bait and switch. I got hit hard when I realised it wasn't what they led us to believe and I wasn't getting the amazing experience they promised. emotionally, I tanked and i can't forgive them for this. graphics: amazing in most places. really amazing. except for the places where the textures are obviously really really bad. like the apartment door. what happened there?? cats are amazing. music: some good remixes, but then there are other new music that are completely out of place and just don't seem to fit the theme of the game at all. pacing: the pacing of the story is utterly destroyed. the original game was crafter to give you the right feel of urgency in the right places and the feel of relaxation in others. an example, when don corneo tells you about the plate, you are really supposed to feel like it's pretty urgent to get there.. but in this remake, you are forced to go through incredibly long sequences with 3 bosses at least, and stupid dementor things getting in your way. that part is just ruined in terms of urgency. to be honest, the majority of this game has me feeling like I want to rush through it all to get to the next plot point. art design: The look and feel of the original is there for some parts but totally gone in other places. the underside of the plate was a gloomy place with the odd oasis of brightness and cheer. this is totally changed and now the places are simply junktowns in broad daylight with happy and vibrant communities. not the worst thing in the world, but it severely compromises the original concept of the city and detracts from the contrast that ought to come later with wutai etc. This really really hard to rate, because on some levels this is really amazing and if not for the bait and switch, the story idea could be clever and well received. I have to take all other things into account too, the pacing, the music inconsistencies, the gameplay, etc. I have to go with a 5 for this.

let me preface by saying, I have not played kingdom hearts since the first one. I am not a fan of the series, I am not a big fan of Disney, I am a fan of games. Didn't know much about this, and I have to say it is shockingly awful This has to be the worst designed game i have seen EVER. the way this is presented is so confusing, I had to look up a game guide on the very first sequence, to understand the choices it was asking me to make. It did not get better. I wish I had a camera to record the expression I was making. by the time I got to the conversation with hades, I was literally , yes LITERALLY dumbstruck. I just had no words for how tragic this game is. I mean, I just don't even... what the HELL was that thing they flashed on the screen saying "kingdom hearts II.9 HD" ???!?! WHAT THE F*?!?! I... WHAT?!?! That's not even going into, why the hell they were in the block ship and then all of a sudden they say they are stuck on the HIGHWAY? excuse me?? what??!!?? That is not even to mention bug eyed merlin who was suddenly giving the characters a dressing down with NO EXPLANATION as to what in the hell they were doing there and what the whole premise is... I'm still trying to make sense of any of it and I wonder if it's even worth trying. seriously, if you're a kingdom hearts fan (first i have to ask "why??") then you will probably love this but you probably already have it so why are you even reading this? if you're not a kingdom hearts fan, then stay away from this utter trash.

This game is badly badly flawed, in so many ways. It just falls apart the more I play it and makes me feel worse and worse. I have given this game a number of chances. I think this is the third time I have stopped playing and I can't see any hope for it. First time I came upon some of the surface flaws. Weapons breaking. This is the number 1 flaw in this game. I really don't care what their theory was for why this was a good idea, it plainly was not. It discouraged me from going anywhere or doing anything. every time I saw a monster or a tree or anything that required a weapon, I avoided it. what is the point in using your weapons when the trade-off is just not worth it. it's not a sensible risk. you would have to be an idiot to attack a group of enemies in this game, because you come out worse than you went in. for the most part when playing this first time, I avoided most encounters, I avoided exploring and I only ever used the worst weapon I had in my inventory at any time. because why would i want to break the best weapon I have? I might need it later. The whole system is just ridiculous. If I could repair them , then it might have made it better, but as it happens, it just discourages you from actually playing the game. I played this until I had defeated the first beast, in zora domain. at this point I felt like the story, the quests, everything was too disjointed to make it worthwhile playing with this weapon breaking dynamic. I was in Akkala and I realised the only way to get any fun out of the game was to be free to explore. so I quit. Second time I played it, was after getting latest CEMU and the unbreakable weapon mod. This made a big difference. I finally felt free to actually play the game. I knew there was a carpenter in Akkala somewhere do I decided to explore with that as my basis. it felt like the only interesting thing that I had in my mind from my previous playthrough. So I spent a long time exploring that place. found some korok seeds, completed some shrines, smashed some rocks, picked up some plants, etc. I was just enjoying the game for 'what it is'. I played this way for about a week. I found the carpenter, and found the workshop. Carpenter just gave me some fetch quests, and the workshop was a tiny bit of story but nothing really major. It was at this point I realised that there wasn't really much in this game other than collecting things. the shrines are boring and dull. just a bunch of mini puzzles. I can get that from any indie game on steam. I don't do that because I don't like dull repetitive puzzles. I don't see any point in just collecting stuff. I certainly don't feel any kind of reward from the damn koroks. So it was here that I realised I was wasting my time. I was going to quit, but I noticed there was DLC available. Third chance I gave this game. the DLC. I learnt I could get a thing for my horse so that I could teleport and actually bring my horse with me. that makes a big difference. so I went on that quest to do that. not a great quest to be honest. it involved looking for a bunch of places with very vague and obscure clues. for something that is supposed to help you to actually explore, the designers thought it made sense for you to have already explored everywhere. so it's an actual pointless item, that is only really available to the players who no longer need it. I heard about other things in this game that do the same thing. oh well, I went on the quest. what was it. a couple of treasure chests stuck in the ground. not flair at all. so that was disappointing. There is so much more wrong at this point I started to get angry. if it's raining, you can't see, so you have to wait, but you can't 'wait' because you can't make a fire in the rain. even under a shelter. There is so much more bad stuff, and no good stuff. no reward, no story development. The game is just terrible. This is like skyrim without the quest lines or interesting stories.

To preface, there is a lot of good about this game, but I need to tell you it's shortcomings. While the gameplay is excellent, and the game is something like 3 times longer than the original, there is a real lack of context. a lot of the files that we had in the original and text descriptions of things we could inspect, are all gone from this. This makes the world feel empty and less lived in. It's a real shame. the worst part though is how Capcom handled the two stories of the original. basically they're gone. this game is one story. except for some bizarre reason, you have to play the same game twice, once for Sherry's sections and again for Ada's sections and the proper ending. aside from those things, the game is pretty much exactly the same for both. Mr X was even pulled from mission B and put into all scenarios. This was a big disappointment. I was expecting to get a new B scenario with an enemy and events that did not happen in my first play-through. instead i got the A scenario of the other character and an extra boss at the end. This was so disappointing that I just feel the need to warn other potential players. I don't recommend this if you want 2 scenarios and The rich backstory we came to expect. only buy it if you want an exciting single story with great gameplay and environments and don't mind being forced to play it all again to get your full ending.

I had previously given this game a 5, but I'm revising it. I just completed a mission and in the cutscene, a character mentioned a character by name that I've never heard of and mentioned things that I had no idea what they were talking about. literally. BECAUSE IT HADN'T @&$%ING HAPPENED YET. I was so confused, I did a search for the named character and discovered that this character was supposed to be introduced mid way through a quest I had pretty much just picked up. after just sitting and staring at the screen for a minute or so, and thinking "WTF"... just totally incredulous, I had no recourse but to just ALT+F4 because the game has made me so angry. I honestly am not sure if I can continue with this trash. I knew this game was a mess but at least it was playable. at least the stories were somewhat entertaining. but when things are accidentally put in the WRONG ORDER, how am I supposed to enjoy that??

I supported these guys on kickstarter because I figured it would be nice to get some new games of this genre especially on PC. I mean playstation has ratchet and clank, but not on PC. To be honest, I was prepared to forgive a lot. the camera is a bit stupid, but I'll let that slide. The music is a little annoying but i'll let that slide. The snake guy is really annoying, but I'll let that slide.. what I won't let sllide is absolutely NO impetus to do anything in this game. the premise is next to non existent. there is no decent reason to do anything in this game, the only objective is to collect more pagies. I'm sorry, but that is just not good enough. even super mario bros had more drive than that. yes, collecting coins was nice, but the objective was to rescue the princess. you had a REASON to continue going. In Yooka Laylee, the only drive for the main characters is get book, sell it for money. bigger questions might be, who will you sell it to? what will you spend the money on? the world has no other form of civilisation or even any hints of it. there is no depth to the characters, just "we want profit". I have never seen such empty, lifeless, 1 dimensional characters. I was willing to forgive a lot, but at the end of the day, I need some kind of motivation to play a game. Yooka Laylee gives zero motivation and playing it I just felt completely and utterly depressed. My whole mindset was "what is the point of this". Industry veterans can and should do better than this. very poor show indeed.

finished all relevant endings. mostly I binged this game because for the most part while I was playing, I felt like I had to keep playing to get to the meat. There were some points where I felt like I was really enjoying it and made it worthwhile to keep going. in the long run though, I really feel like the developer wasted a lot of my time. It seems like this game has so much padding and it's really not fair. The developer tries to be 'clever' by reusing set pieces to tell the story from a different perspective, but honestly, these different perspectives could be done in a much more fun and enjoyable game. not by forcing me to play through the entire game again. It's like a lot of the game was 'held back' for playthrough number 2, when it should have been right there in the game the first time round maybe as optional missions or as exposition. It reminds me a lot of devil may cry 4, where it required you to play the game again backwards in order to get to the end. In retrospect, I feel like I wasted a lot of my life playing this, I got too involved and it was actually quite bad for my mental health. I recommend against this.

This DLC was not something I looked forward to. I have seen many DLC that are so low quality and add very little substance to the original. then I saw this through to the end and I have to say this effected me far more than the entire game of 'last of us'. the story of the two young girls rekindling their friendship was so deep and it totally drew me in. It was so well staged that I fell in love with Riley and after finishing it I have found myself in tears a lot recalling the precious moments they spent together. It's so magical, it reminds me of a lot of precious moments from my own life and the delivery is incredible. there were times that I just didn't even think of them as characters, the animation and lighting etc was so realistic I felt like I was looking at real people. The action parts and traversing the environment was fairly rewarding. I liked the change in the way the game plays with the different character. climbing and getting around the environment seems more of a focus with Ellie and the fighting also has me feeling more vulnerable. which is perfect for playing as a young girl. Fact is though, she can truly do some real damage and hold her own in a pinch which impresses me no end.

There is a point where I said out loud "This game is freaking genius!". My brother can vouch for that. It is very clever. I have to be honest, the segments where you play the endless runner portion are sometimes a bit too challenging for my tastes, but I would just knuckle under and get through them because the rest of it is really rather clever. I won't spoil it by telling you why, but chances are you've already seen a ton of spoilers. If you haven't then don't read any more reviews and just play the game. It's better that way.

this is not metal gear solid. the introduction sets up some stuff that is pretty intriguing. after that you are sent on bullcrap missions having to do menial tasks that have nothing to do with what was shown in the introduction. I'm sent to take out bases on my own, even though I have a base of soldiers who could swamp the area in seconds. I'm told to develop weapons that in past games were 'procure on site'. I am told to collect resources and plants. an errand boy. of course we could look at it another way. we kidnap these russian soldiers and it turns out they have no allegiance or national pride. no integrity. so I then have to question what they are doing here. I'm also questioning the point of building up this base, when it seems like they would have no chance against skull face or that floating red headed gas mask girl. it's clear from last games that snake is best as a solo operative, so building up this base is nothing but bullcrap busy work. I've struggled with this game since I got it. struggled to try and push myself to get to the parts where the story picks up. but having looked at other reviews it seems I have wasted my time. I am a mug. my only consolation is that i got a pre-order from a different site at a 25% off. F*** Konami.

Sex scenes in a first person shooter / action game are incredibly inappropriate. This crass and distasteful addition has grossly offended me. it is sick and pointless, what kind of decent game design does that? it is cheap. I have enjoyed the rest of the game, it is well put together and the preceding scene on the train worked incredibly well and then that pointless and crude scene came along and completely ruined it. it was completely out of place and felt like it had been forced in to objectify the characters and take away any compassion I might have had for them. what was the point of that? am I supposed to feel more caring for the characters now? now they have been reduced to sex objects? the entire connection with the game world has been destroyed by that and I now feel very negatively about the game, I have no motivation to continue because I now see the game world as a porn set and the characters as sex puppets. I don't even understand the motivation behind this tasteless stunt. how does it fit in with the characters ethos? the scene at the beginning where he clearly states that family is not for him. so instead he screws this nurse he had the hots for? am I supposed to feel empathy for his actions now? or maybe his entire persona has changed now? am I supposed to find the world believable? I honestly don't feel like continuing now. Anyone who values character integrity in games, you will want to give this game a miss. it is insulting.

I was really looking forward to this as I expected they would only improve it over the first one. At the end of the day, this is a big disappointment. They tried a bit too hard I think. The addition of multiples of items that get picked up every five minutes, really cheapens the concept of extra armour. In the original darksiders, new armour for War was very cool. In this game it is just "Meh, whatever". Then there is the horse. In the first game it was pretty interesting when you got to ride the horse for a bit. Now in darksiders 2, riding the horse is boring. As well as actually riding the horse being boring, it results in the areas being boring. You end up with a few large plains, with some dungeons dotted around the place. This actually polarises the game between horse bits and dungeons. It takes the intrigue out of world exploration as you know what to expect. Due to the drawbacks of these elements of the game, I decided to set it to easy so I could go through the game easily and quickly. but they couldn't even get that right. I ended up going up against a boss who my zombie decoys died against in 3 seconds so I couldn't distract him, I was hardly taking any health off him and got completely slaughtered. On easy. There is of course the existence of bonus items. The limited edition gives a really powerful weapon, but this just makes the weapons you pick up useless. It takes out any sense of reward for collecting stuff, not that there would be anyway since the game throws stuff at you. It seems backwards, when you really need some health you just can't seem to pick any up. When you don't need health it gets thrown at you. It's just all really, really wrong. I haven't even mentioned the poor level design. I simply cannot imagine how the game designers failed to notice that their volcano was moving from one side of the temple to the opposite side. The art design of the environments is bad, with overlapping textures causing a horrible flickering effect, some places there are glaring gaps in the geometry so you can see through to the other side. The general art direction is very clumsy with many areas just being very difficult to figure out and resulting in a mess of clutter.
