Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
9
User Scoregtwist

The Last Jedi will ease Star Wars fans by doing something different, even though they will still probably be mad because they are Star Wars fans. Rian Johnson gave this series an incredibly unique direction, that makes this film stand out. All of the arks in this movie are written and pulled off beautifully. There are some definite issues in pacing, for the movie will derail a lot in the first act. This may tie into my last complaint, but I don't like what Finn and the new character Rose are doing in this movie. Finn also doesn't have an ark or any character development, which was disappointing. I did like The Force Awakens more, by the way. I don't by into a lot of the criticisms and nit picks that people have, because they're stupid. But The Force Awakens move along at a better place, and overall had less problems then The Last Jedi. I still loved this movie, and it is a welcome addition to the 3rd Star Wars Trilogy!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman v Superman is not a COMPLETE disaster. Ben Affleck nailed batman! He was so cool, and his costume is my favorite batman costume. Henry Cavill is very good as superman, and I didn't mind Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. However, I hated the use of Doomsday! He had no place in this movie. If I were to summon up all of my complaints for this movie, it would be that the whole movie feels like a build up for a sequel, which meant I was never invested. This seems to be the new trend in superhero movies, and it's stupid. Most of the cameos for the flash and some of the other superheros were very poorly written. Overall, Batman v Superman was very disappointing, but still not an awful movie.

One of Tarantino's best films, The Hateful Eight has amazing dialogue, as well as performances from the whole cast. The cinematography was beautiful, and the score was fantastic. This is everything I like in a film and more!

Suicide Squad

Besides from a couple good performances, Suicide Squad was a disaster! David Ayer is about as horrible as a person as he is a filmmaker. The movie is poorly shot, and the action scenes are all bland. There are a lot of useless characters, and arcs that are underdeveloped. I admire Jared Leto for not being like Heath Ledger, because that would be really easy. He gets almost no screen time, and isn't even the main villain, and his dialog is horrible. Suicide Squad is one of the worst superhero movies I've ever seen.

Green Room

Green Room is a very good looking movie, with scenes of sheer horror and intensity that left me on the edge of my seat the whole film. The characters were extremely thin, however, with really nothing to them. The best performance, by far, was Anton Yelchin. Patrick Stewart went a little too silent for him to be scary, and overall his performance was slightly disappointing. Overall, very good and well made thriller.

War for the Planet of the Apes

War for the Planet of the Apes was extremely emotional and intense, and I loved it. It was so heartbreaking at times, and so inspiring as well. It looks beautiful, and the CGI is flawless. I have never seen CGI that look so good in my life, and Andy Serkis is amazing as Caesar, again. Woody Harrelson is fantastic as well. A lot of people will complain about his one scene of exposition, but the scene was so investing, and it built upon his character as well. I had no flaws with this movie. It was perfect!

Dunkirk

User Scoregtwist
Nov 26, 2017
Dunkirk is devoid of really any real characters, or character development. However, Christopher Nolan has done this deliberately. There were thousands of soldiers on the battlefield. Dunkirk never gives you that moment to examine a character. Like what a character would do when he goes back home, or something cliche like that. This movie is always moving, and I was always on the edge of my seat. Christopher Nolan has yet again made a brilliant movie with amazing cinematography and sound editing.

Valerian is actually entertaining, different, and visually stunning. The fact that this movie is not like any other I've seen, makes this movie watchable. However, there are a lot of flaws. The casting is off, and the pacing is off too. Not a great movie, but it's not bad either.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spiderman: Homecoming is not bad, but not that good either. The directors were going for a lighter tone, which isn't a very good choice in my opinion, even though a lot of people like this. If you look back at some of the best spiderman movies like 1 and 2, they weren't light hearted. The were intense and emotional, but they were also very fun. This movie is none of those things. Tom Holland is very good here, and I really like the ark he goes through. However, the best part of this movie is Michael Keaton as the Vulture. His character was interesting and his performance was even better. The best scene in the movie by far is when they are talking in the car. That was the only scene in the movie where I felt something was at stake. Not a bad movie in any way, but I didn't love it like a lot of people did.

Insidious

Insidious is an extremely well shot, and well acted horror movie. The score was fantastic, and it never needed an R rating to be scary, which was refreshing. The creature was terrifying and has by far the scariest moment in the film. James Wan uses a lot of jump scares, and not a single one was fake! The ending was not very scary however, and some of the scares in the middle all felt the same. Still a very good movie.

If you ignore the misleading trailers, and just focus on the filmmaking, It Comes at Night is an extremely well made and scary movies that always had me on the edge of my seat. There were a lot of dream sequences, but they are important to understanding the unanswered questions, which this movie has a lot of. The cast is also all good.

Shyamalan is back with an extremely intense thriller with a performance by James McAvoy that was so good, that he should win an oscar for it. It's very well shot and directed, and the ending was fantastic. The first 20 minutes, however, were a bit messy, and the two other girls who were kidnaped got on my nerves. However, Anya Taylor-Joy was also fantastic in this movie.

Baby Driver is one of those movies that gives you hope that there is still people in Hollywood that are making movies that are creative and different, and that can also entertain. Baby Driver is one of the best movies ever made, and Edgar Wright is still one of the best directors to ever live. All the performances are perfect, and the action scenes are some of the best ever!

Blade Runner 2049 is one of the best, most provocative, and DEFINITELY one of the best looking movie of the year. Ryan Gosling gives one the best and most subtle performances he's ever given, and Harrison Ford is great as well. Denis Villeneuve is proving to be one of the best directors working today, and I can't wait to see what he does next!
