Had potential. Only problem is a tighter script and more substance. It takes too long to get to the Backrooms. It would be fine if we explored the character more, but we don't. They try to, but I don't think it was done all too well. The “climax” or incident, or even the defining moment that pushes the story along, happens way too quickly once we are in the Backrooms. It's because we spend too much time before getting to it. The movie is at its best when it is building tension as we explore more and more of the rooms and the weirdness of it. That's the intriguing nature of the Backrooms and everything about its viral success. The more it unraveled, the more unknown it becomes, and more of just a place. I think they needed to really tighten up the script for the next one and instead make the rooms themselves feel like an entity while keeping the mystery still alive. Something like Stranger Things did well in the earlier seasons. But, for a 20-year-old debut, solid attempt. 7.8/10 C+

Jurassic World Rebirth

There are movies with a few plot holes, maybe a goofy scene or two. Then there are movies that are just cringey or campy. And then... there are movies like Jurassic World: Rebirth, where every single scene feels like it was written by someone recovering from a lobotomy. To be fair, the core plot isn’t inherently awful: retrieve three MacGuffins and go home. Simple. Not great but could make a fun movie around. But, the problem is that every character in this movie acts with the decision-making skills of a toddler. They get themselves into situations not because of tension or conflict, but because they behave like they've had their frontal lobes scooped out seconds before the camera rolled. And let’s talk about that family introduced at the beginning — the ones Scarlett’s team is always worried about. I don’t know who wrote these people (screenwriter obviously), but they might be the most annoying, utterly useless, and aggressively incompetent characters ever shoved into a blockbuster. Their survival instincts are practically in the negatives, and yet, their plot armor? A nat 20. Constantly. They bumble through danger with all the awareness of a blindfolded toddler, and yet poof, they get out of danger. The pacing suffers because of them. It honestly feels like two separate scripts were written: one for a grounded, emotional family survival story and another for big extraction blockbuster movie. Then someone at Universal panicked and decided to splice the two together. But in order to make that Frankenstein mess work, they had to make the family as dumb as possible — so they'd conveniently end up in danger and give them anything to while also having Houdini level of escapability. That’s not tension. That’s lazy, dumb writing. And the plot armor… good lord. If you were in the trailer, you're invincible. There’s no suspense. None. Characters survive impossible situations just because the script says they must. It’s exhausting to watch. Now the jokes. Oh man. The humor is painful. Think recent MCU banter, but stripped of charm and written for toddlers... so basically recent MCU banter. Every punchline is telegraphed three lines in advance, and the delivery is so forced it’s like the actors knew how cringe it all was but had to power through for the paycheck. It’s not just unfunny — it’s exhausting. Ultimately, this film feels like it was made for babies — not literal children, but people who just want non-stop action with zero expectation of coherent storytelling. If you just want loud CGI (most part is actually very well done except a few scenes) and chase scenes stitched together by nonsense dialogue and dumb decisions, you’ll probably find something to like here. But if you’re even slightly invested in scene logic, character development, or tonal consistency, this is going to be a painful sit. Honestly, I owe Jurassic Park III an apology. For all the flack that film got, it looks like a measured, thoughtful masterpiece compared to this Fast-and-Furious-style descent into cinematic lunacy. This might be the final nail in the coffin for the franchise — at least for me. 1/10 E P.s. This film has the entertainment value of Oscar from Shark Tale It’s below whale poop. I was so hopeful too, because Garth Edwards was attached. But clearly, the screenplay writer and Universal execs didn’t care about story — just mindless “fun.” And holy hell was this mindless. P.S. The opening scene? A whole facility goes into lockdown… because of a Snickers wrapper. Yes. A Snickers wrapper. P.S. #2 I could do a full-length video essay maybe even longer than the film itself just cataloguing every brain-meltingly stupid thing that happens.

Well I found a contender for worst mcu movie. I didn't think this could be worse than antman 3 but here we go. This film just flies by at a ridiculous pace. We're supposed to know these chatcters already but I don't. I don't know either of these charcters that well besides ms marvel because her story ends where this movie begins but the other we haven't seen in at least 2 years. There's no set up to this film and it speeds through act one so quickly you'll get disoriented wondering how we got here so quickly. The acting isn't bad for the most part besides a weird performance and character transformation for Samuel L Jackson. No idea what the hell he was trying to be or what his character was supposed to do here. For how much **** he's been through, he's not linking up with straight. He's just all over the place. The rest of them are doing their best to make up for the last of a anything but they're just speed running through the film as well. They have 0 direction it feels like. The villain, oh the villain, is so makeshift amalgamation of Ronan, gorgeous, and the knee. Her powers are so all over the place I have no idea when she's stronger or not as strong as out protagonists. Because captain marvel should just boddy her it feels like but then she sometimes has the bracelet be able to reflect captain marvel. However, captain marvel has the ability to just take a star to the face and go right through it. The powers can't even be consistent where the main gimmick of the film is never consistent. They'll use their powers and won't switch. The biggest thing here is the manufacturing of tension and stakes. It's like they couldn't create a realistic storyline to stretch the film out so one scene someone is super strong then they're not or they have someone get trapped when they could have just done it from the other side. Overall, this is a convoluted mess of a film that doesn't have any weight in the other parts of the mcu. The only thing it does is set up other projects while compromising it's story for bad jokes and a lack of identity. 3/10 E

These films have such a rocky past and this doesn't help that at all. It's not the worst of the series, part 2 has that crown, but it's probably the most disappointing. Its problems definitely reside mostly in "part 3" but there's problems all over the film. I'll try to keep most of the "spoilers" to a minimum. The film opens up with just problems, as we're supposed to feel bad for our protagonist, who we already know will become a ruthless dictator, because he's... poor. We're then shown our other protagonist, Lucy gray, who we're supposed to care for because... she's poor. Interesting strategy here. Snow has more of a backstop at least but Lucy gray has nothing here. Does Snow care about her because she has a pretty face and she sang good? He's willing to get to the top at all costs (to save himself and his family from being homeless) but will risk it all, right away, for some random girl he's mentoring. There's no major conversations with them at all and no chemistry to begin with. She's constantly hating on him, rightfully so, and clearly stats she's into someone else. Regardless of that, he risks his life for her while sounding like the biggest hypocrite throughout the film. I'm confused on his motivations throughout the film. The hunger games themselves have some cool stuff in them and the look of the capital was pretty cool. I liked the intriguing nature behind the hunger games and the evolution of it throughout the film. I wanted more of this and less of the relationship mumbo jumbo. The relationship part is easily the worst part and creates problems later on. It's unfortunately like 70% of the film. Now the worst part being the third act where charcter motivations are just completely abandoned sometimes then become laughable. It feels like the film should be 4 hours long but reduced because that's too long. It's extremely rushed to the point of insanity. Maybe the book does a better job at fleshing out the many problems in the movie but the movie does a very bad job at doing it. The movie is one big Shakespeare wannabe that tries so hard to be an epic tragedy but comes off as a tragedy of filmmaking. Overall, I think this world could be a cool idea, but I think movies are too short and narratively strict to make for a good adaptation. I would love a tv show, with every year being a random important year, with political intrigue and behind the scenes of the hunger games. We can get different aspects of the districts as well while focusing on what makes the hunger games interesting. Which, to me, is the human nature element to it rather the romanticized elements these movies keeping giving us. 4.4/10 E

This was pretty good when it wasn't kind of boring. I think they focused on some of the wrong aspects of the film or didn't focus enough on others. Because sometimes this film jumps around very quickly without knowing what year we're in or how out main charcter has changed. It's sometimes jumbled with a weird direction of focusing too much on his relationship rather than himself. Although the movie is mainly very good. The war scenes are extremely entertaining and rewarding when they're on screen. The French revolution (I wanted more) was very interesting. The political intrigue with how he ruled (I wanted more) and how he got into power was very good. There's a patten here and I think that has to do either it being too long for a standard biopic and too short for an epic. There supposed to be a 4 hour cut of thus film and I hope they bring out thay extended edition. It should flesh out some of aspects I wish were fleshed out hopefully. The acting is good enough here and never great. Vanessa is probably the best performance but nothing special. Phoenix does his thing but nothing special. Overall, the theme of the movie is its gold but nothing special. The downgrades of the film don't distract from the overall quality and I think the 4 hour cut should cut into the negatives of the film. I'm hoping the 4 hour cut comes out and that it helps squash the bad aspects of the film. 8.5/10 B

Well, it was ass. Straight garbage with a first half that tricks you into thinking it'll be good, but then nose dives off a cliff into unfunny mediocrity. The beginning of the film wasn't a super grounded film or anything but felt like we were getting a cool idea for an SH film, surrounded by a tight family group, but then the cliches started pouring in. Also, with cringe/unfunny jokes about a spaceship making farting noise to a joke that was so unfunny the first time, they preceded to make the joke over and over like beating a dead horse. After the cliches and terrible jokes came the awful plot holes. From a person's motivation to people's decisions, blue beetle just kept getting more and more atrocious. It's remarkable how a film that started off pretty well spiraled into such mediocrity that I was rolling my eyes constantly throughout the end of the film. Overall, Blue Beatle isn't Wolverine origins or Fan 4 stic levels of awful, but it's one of those SH stuck in the past and wasting potential. This could have been like a spiderverse with cool minority characters and a strong family movie (which they had 2 scenes with all of them together), but got painted over with the typical bad SH cliches. Next time, if you're going to make an SH like this, at least take the good cliches of SH films and not the ones that make people roll their eyes. 4.5/10 E P.s. of course, geneal audiences like this. Cliches ️ No risks taken ️ Unfunny jokes to make kids laugh even though the adults think it's funny to️ Another example of people lying when they say, "I want something original, Hollywood has run out of ideas"

Damn, I'm a scrooge with this movie (not my intent). In this franchise, I've liked 1,3,4,6 and unfortunately this was one of the bad ones. The biggest gripe I have is that it's just goofy. It feels like the plot to a bad superhero movie or the plot to a spinoff ff film. The villains, yes villains without spoiling anything, were not only lackluster but goofy to then point where I questioned if I was in a MI movie and not an Austin powers one. The main motivations of one of the bad guys isn't clear as he works for the other one. He has tech in the film, especially involving a casket, where I laughed a little when I saw it. Looked like something out of a B level superhero film. The direction they went with the main top level bad guy is a direction I just don't like. It makes the stakes feel higher but they honestly never do anything that special with it. This concept has been done before and way better in those other fimms. To a point, where I thought for sure they would going to utilize it way better and way more menacing but everytime they dropped the ball. Even though I don't like the direction they're going I can see the potential it can bring but hopefully they do a better job with it in the next one. Now, let's talk about the charcters. Ethan Hunt feels like he's regressed in the film and not in a natural way. I know he's running up against the biggest threat but this film feels like he's not even running his own movie anymore. Cruise is still good in the film but the film feels like just one big chase sequence stretched out for no reason. Plenty of times Ethan could have been killed and would have been beneficial for the top bad guy to do so and could probably get him killed but they never do. Hunt just feels like a dude along for the ride going from place to place while being spoon fed information. The second character I had the biggest problem with is a newcomer and how they introduce her to the team. Without spoiling anything, she basically makes Hunt look like a fool the whole movie and makes Hunt look like a side charcter in his own movie. She's without a doubt the most annoying charcter in the film with tropes molded to create her charcter. She's a walking cliche for most of the film and gets out of scenarios she shouldn't. They even say she's not a spy the whole movie but can invade the spies at every turn. It's both a joke and sad that she is in the film (especially because the outcome of her charcter does something to another better charcter). Luckily the rest of the charcters on the main team are great here. The only other charcters that kind of **** are the two high generals. Felt like cliche trope "spy authority figures". The main villains aren't good but the actor does a fine enough job. No actor does a bad job for what they are given. Now to the most disappointing aspect being the stunts. The marketing for this film had "most dangerous" stunts but just never felt thay way. A lot of them are cool but are blown out of the water in comparison to the water scene from rogue Nation and almost all of the stunts from fallout. If they really were that dangerous, that's awesome, but it didn't translate to the screen. Felt a lot more bad green screen stunts more than the ones we got in rhe past two films. Not one stunt in this one was cooler than those other two films and that's a let down. Also, the action sequences didn't hit as hard as the bathroom scene in fallout or even the knife fight scene in RN. A lot of bad shaky cam and a lot of cuts. The story doesn't help here either. It's literally one big scavenger hunt with a side plot of also being one big chase sequence. Everyone knows where everyone is and everyone is there at the same time every signal scene. The main mcguffin isn't even explained to us in this film so we have no idea why the team is going after it. We just know if the villain gets it "it will be bad". Also, the reason the mcguffin gets into the real world is unknown and the motivation of why the mcguffin gets into the real world is a weird decision by the top bad guy. Seems like they hurt themselves by doing what they did in the beginning of the film. Overall, if this was a little disappointing I wouldn't have disliked at much but this is a really huge step back compared to the last movie which I loved. Every aspect of fallout is better and there's little hype I have for the next one if this is the direction they seem to want to go to. I need to see rogue Nation again, maybe this movie will make me appreciate that movie more. D-

Might seems like a troll post but this is by far the worst Star Wars ever and haters of the last one are to blame. The Last Jedi wasn’t that great and had its flaws but my god is it better than this dumpster fire. From a story comparison, TLJ is a masterpiece compared to this, nothing to be worked in her and just goes to show you that the plan for this trilogy was completely half added and that ticks me off. I’ve loved this franchise since I was six right before the specials editions came out and been watching it since. I’ve never truly hated a Star Wars films but I have been bored with films like solo. I truly hate this film and has made me push this saga down the list. A lot of aspects in this film don’t lineup and ruin the other two films. Watching the other two films will be hard now because if leads to what? A prequel level rehash of the return of the Jedi? But, way dumber and goofy ass moments that feel like it’s from a B level sci-fi franchise rather than a billion dollar one. This film panders to the lowest common denominator. This transformer type of people that love that **** General audiences are to blame for this failure of a film. It just goes to show you the ineptitude of Disney and the brilliance of one. Disguising real filmmaking with a flashy, fan service, and nostalgia to trick people into thinking the film was good. This will 100% be the phantom menace of this trilogy and people will finally wake up to realize how much of a joke all this was. It all leads to disappointing nothingness while masquerading as a real love letter to the franchise. In the end, this film has turned me away from anything Star Wars and won’t be seeing anything of theres again. Unless they really change thing around. But, this is Disney. Tricking the public with big business operations to pony in money instead of making a good product. Money over substance. Obey.

Stronger (2017) review I remember seeing this film at one of the previews to a film and completely forgot about it. I then was hearing it got great reviews so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. This based on a true story movie on the Boston Marathon is a wondering showing of talent from all around. Not sure if it was in the editing or they wrote it in the screenplay, but the way it was structured help with the emotion. It never showed the event from his perspective until later in the film. It really was put in the right area. Also, damn are the performances fantastic. This is expected from someone like Jake G. but I had never seen Tatiana Maslany in a movie ever and she was fantastic. She never felt like she was misplaced or felt like she didn't belong. She put it up with Jake G. the whole time as he produced one of the best performances by him. There wasn't any when he came out and we thought we were watching the actor. There were times when he did show emotion but it never felt like he was asking. This is top two of his because it always felt like it was grounded in realism. He kills it again. The story itself also shows how the stages of grief can affect both the victim and the family but never felt cliche like a lot of bad inspirational films do. Overall I was very pleased with the film and actually liked it more than Patriot's day that came out last year. 9.5/10 A

Three strikes and you're out in baseball. This could be said about a lot of movie franchises. However, DC's universe has been scheduled for more movies than it deserves. This comic-book franchise has been derailed by the one and only Zack Snyder and it looks like it will never be fixed. The Suicide Squad trailers tried to prove a lot of the haters wrong. It's marketing was perfect as it showed a funny spin on the universe. It got a lot of the critics of the franchise on board as well. It surely did its job to try and manipulate audiences into believing that this universe wasn't a complete disaster. Unfortunately, “disaster” is the exact word to describe this movie. If Warner Brothers and DC wanted this movie to change the critics minds, they failed. Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer and produced by Zack Snyder. Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis) is trying to get a team together to fight threats that could potentially harm the world. She wants this team ready so that if another Superman comes down, their will be a team that can stop it. Waller gets the help of some bad people that will do a lot of good. Enchantress is one of these villains but she doesn't want to follow orders and creates a plot to create an army to destroy everything. She's a mystical witch that releases her brother. Her brother helps her in her effort to take over the world. The Suicide Squad has their first task in taking down the threat. However, they soon realize that not only are the bad guys in front of them, they're also the ones pulling the strings. Suicide Squad’s biggest failure is in the character department. The big selling point of the movie was that audiences were going to get great characters that were interesting and fun. What we got were characters that were boring and wooden. There are only a few of them that get a backstories (of course these are the three major stars in the movie). Most of them never get any character development. They're tossed a side for no reason at all. Majority aren't interesting enough to care about to begin with. This has to do with both bad screen-writing and a lack of talent in the acting department. The dialogue doesn't help these actors, but a lot of the acting is god awful. The three major ones that are quite awful are Enchantress (played by Cara Delevingne), Boomerang (played by Jai Courtney), and the Joker (played by Jared Leto). Leto doesn't do a terrible job with the Joker but the character is so bad that it becomes nauseating at times. He's not the Joker that's been seen in any live-action movie yet. He's a gangster with a gold tooth and a whole lot of tattoos. Leto is given a character that seems to scare everyone around him but never feels menacing at all. The over-the-top performance doesn't help, but Leto isn't given a character he can shine with. The worst acting in the movie is Courtney’s performance. Courtney is a terrible actor to begin with and this movie doesn't prove that wrong. His delivery of some of lines is cringe-worthy at best and he's constantly aggravating throughout the entire runtime. Delevingne’s performance isn't much better. It's over the top, loud, obnoxious, and overall lazy. She's out of her element and it shows in her performance. Suicide Squad has a lot of directional and screen-writing errors as well. A scene where the squads chopper is shot down by someone we never see. Though the movie doesn't really pay a lot of attention on the crash in the first place as it just cuts to the team walking down the street with no transition shot. Action scenes are shaking and sometimes hard to follow. Enchantress’s heart is her only weak point, then it's not, and then it is again. Enchantress is in control of a person’s body. If she dies, the body dies. This was the overall message throughout the whole movie until we needed tension and a fake-out death scene. There was an annoying amount of fake-out death scenes in the film. It seems like DC’s new trend. Though the worst offense is when a group of non-meta human villains was able to take down a demonic witch and her brother. Their no match for them but somehow pull it together and win. It's done in the most lazy way possible (wont tell you for spoiler reasons). There’s a lot these inconsistencies with a lot of unrealistic moments in Suicide Squad that turns the movie into a joke after while. It's like a punchline of a joke by the Joker. Nothing in the movie impressed me. Nothing in the movie was groundbreaking. Nothing was fun to watch. DC might be able to disguise this crap better with some audience members. However, it's still crap at the end of the day. Overall, Suicide Squad is the biggest disappointment of the year. The beginning produces some promise, but it's just a glimmer of hope that fades when the second act starts. What could have been an interesting film, fades into oblivion with a terrible performance by everyone evolved with the film. This new universe DC/Warner Brothers have created, has another strike under its belt. It's time to just scrap this new universe and reboot. However, the box-office numbers will state over-wise. 4.5/10 45% E

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
7
User Scorebmaster4616
Jan 23, 2016
The history of movies is almost as controversial as the events that went down in Benghazi, Libya. From scandals to affairs, Hollywood has been controversial since the beginning of time. The movie presents itself just like Hollywood. The exterior structure looks glamorous with a hollow center of both destruction and chaos, with both a surprising good narrative and less Baism then his past films. Bay seemed to have truly wanted to make a good movie, without the need to trump action over characters. This results in a good tale of the soldiers who gave their lives to fight an enemy that shouldn't exist. 13 hours tells the true story (depends on what you believe) of the accounts leading up to the attack of a military base in the city of Benghazi, Libya. There has been Civil uprising of the government, which leads to the militant capture of the country. They shunned many world powers, especially United States out of the country. After a press meeting with the an United States Ambassador is leaked to the public, the militants track down his outpost. This leads to the death of the Ambassador that then spirals out of control. This leads to military base being next one the list. The military will now have to defend their stronghold against the onslaught of forces who are headed their way. Bay has mostly created lifeless characters, an action driven story, and laughable romance in almost all of his movies. His track record has been less than even bad, with movies like the Rock being the best. Bay has produced a lot of critics because of this. Though he's been able to turn a profit with almost everything he touches. Though his storytelling is pushed aside for cheap tricks and remarkably terrible dialogue. This phenomenon is called "Baism". It's when a director simply makes money, no matter the quality of the film. Though this has led to a decline in sales, because audiences just seem to value the movies again. However, this outing is the best he's ever produce. Bay leaves all the trickery at the door, for some good character development. The story is as hollow as any bad movie out there. The story train chugs down the straight path and hits all of the same rhythms as every real life war movies before it. Little history lesson with text, small period showing unrest, civilized manor of defusing that unrest, diplomacy fails, climax occurs, and the resolution. This doesn't have anything new or even compelling. It's a predictable ride throughout and no major significance happens in the story. Though Bay doesn't want the audience to focus on that portion of the movie. His attention is solely committed to giving the audience the real victims, the soldiers. In most of Bay's former movies, action was pushing the story along. It was the action that turned the attention away from the poorly written script and stiff characters. It a Baism tactic to distract the audience to shift focus off the awfulness of the movie. However, 13 hours kicks off the meat of the movie with action, it's the characters who push the story along. The characters create the action through their actions, and it allows the centers the focus onto the characters involved. Though it seems like another distraction tactic, that turns the focus away from the story. However, the characters feel so genuine and real, that it isn't problem to focus solely on them. That's what the title even says. They are secret soldiers in foreign land, which they don't truly understand themselves. Bay truly captures this aspect by getting the audience to get connected with these characters. His goal is for the tension to rise when these characters are in trouble, not begin able to distinguish the enemy from the friendly's. This wouldn't be possible if Bay just throe action in the faces of the audience. He really achieves tension by simply narrowing the focus onto a couple of people. The connection between the characters and audience is captured by giving us only small backgrounds characters other than the main character. Not bogging down the movie with sappy back stories of every single man. Though giving enough insight to care for those that eventually die. Overall, Bay does a fine job with creating a movie that's mostly character driven, pulling away from his usual Baisms, to produce a mature movie to honor these men. Though Bay can't help himself at times with some bad dialogue, firework explosions, a weak story, and one or two lifeless characters. However, Bay puts on his directors cap to make a grounded film that tells the story of survival. It gives way to some great scenes of extreme tension. 13 hours might not be up to the 2014 standards of American Sniper, but sets itself up to be its little brother. 8/10

Krampus is a what the industry likes to call "a dumb fun" movie. This over-the-top and ridiculous movie is so idiotic, it's entertaining. It's terrible as a standard movie and most certainly isn't even a good film. However, there's more enjoyment in the last thirty minutes alone than most blockbusters this year. The movie Krampus is unrealstically dumb in all the right reasons. One family is traumatized as creatures from the dark start to pick them off one by one. Creatures that are being controlled by the entity Krampus. A horned like Santa Clause that grants one terrible wish, when a child starts to not believe in the Christmas spirit anymore. Its out for blood as it terrorizes a wealthy suburban in search for the person that summoned him. The movie Krampus isn't going to blow anyone's mind, scare anyone, etc. Krampus is here to simply be a tool of disgust. It's here to shock audiences while making them question what had just happened. The movie itself is a selfaware train wreck that's on a direct course to the darkest parts of your mind. It will completely engulf your attention with ludicrous creatures and funny moments spread out. Its like an ADD squirrel that's been trapped in a box for a month. The story itself is quite interesting and the premise is also interesting. Though the director seemed to love to always one up a crazy scene with a crazier scene. The rollercoaster ride is a fun one but it makes you sick after while. The story is overshadowed by unorthodox aspects and scenes. Though these moments are quite entertaining and make for some pretty great scenes. The comedy doesnt work a lot in the movie. At least the intentional jokes, that are sprinkled throughout the film, with a lot of unintentional comedy. For example, one puppet looking creature shollows a kid. He then unspeakably wipes his mouth off while he proceeds to growl at the camera, continuing the laughter throughout the scene. The movie plays off like a morbidly bad wedding joke that makes the audience laugh for easement of the person making the speech. The characters in the film are despicably hilarious and over-the-top representations of real life people. They make for a great catalyst for their own demises while making those scenes a wonderful treat. They don't allow feelings to be spared on them as they make their one linet's before disappearing. This leads to an ending that spits in the face of the audience; not caring what they think about it. Overall, Krampus is a mess of a film. It really doesn't succeed as a comedy, a thriller, or even a horror movie. Its a Netflix movie, if you're ever in the need to watch an over-the-top horror/comedy movie. Its worth watching on entertainment alone. Krampus is its own short bus with one stool, no benches, no steering wheel, and one man in a straight jacket. Is it worth getting that ride? 3/10 Entertainment value 9/1

Boxing movies usually follow a cliche script or finds ways to just completely ripoff its far superior predecessor (I'm looking at you Southpaw). Some take stories from real life, while others focus on a down and out person who pulls himself/herself together to fight for a living. The then come together and become the top of their craft. It gets to the point where the stories get boring. They're predictable, sappy, boring, etc. Creed might steal some cliches from boxing movies or previous rocky movies, but mostly it throws all the other cliches out the window. This gives audiences a refreshing take on the Boxing genre and a great movie in a long time. Both of Adonis Johnson's (Michael B. Jordan) parents weren't around when he was growing up. His aggressive and insurgent nature has caused him to get a bad-rap in the foster home that he lives in. His life suddenly changed when the wife of Apolo Creed comes in to adopt him. Apolo had cheated on Johnson's mom and left Creed's mom before he was born. He can now lives the life he's always wanted or maybe not. He's always wanted to follow the footsteps of his father without getting there with his name. He meets up with Rocky (Sylevester Stallone) to get him to train him and eventually is able to get into the sport he loves. Creed exceeds past its predecessors (besides the first one) because it does a great job of combining both the amazing parts of the Rocky series while giving audiences a new and fresh take. It doesn't want to ride the coattails of the past while still still staying true to the name, and the movie gives us those moments that made the franchise great. This small little awesomeness of irony in the story, is just one of the great things Creed does. Creed the movie doesn't want to be great because of their name while Johnson also doesn't want to get inti boxing because of his name. It's an interesting parallel that really shows us that the director really does get it. He knows what the fans of the series want, while pulling in a new generation of fans. The best part of the movie is the acting within the grittiness of the movie. The movie has those amazing corny moments that people love from the last films, but the movie is grittier version of it's predecessor. The acting reflects this as Stallone really shows a broken down version of the once great boxer. His idea of knowing that the past is in fact the past, and he can't cope with leaving the past where it is. Also everything he's loved in life has pasted and gone. His career, his family, and his life has been transformed into something different. Both Jordan and Stallone show their acting chomps as their chemistry is great together. The script helps in this but it's really their performances that make you believe that they're this new family. Stallone gives his best performance, maybe even better than the original Rocky. Michael B. Jordan sells that he is indeed a boxer and the direction of those fights were fantastically put together. The cinematography brings to life the fight scenes and it feels extremely real. The choreography is best since the Fighter. The script helps the movie feel real as well. Johnson doesn't all of a sudden become this amazing boxer. It take months for him to train before his first bout. He has boxing all his life in different countries underground. Nothing about the script screams cliche and it doesn't scream for attention. I simply knows what the fans want and it produces that product onto the screen. Bringing back some of the original actors, characters, set pieces, etc., is something not really done anymore. At least not to the quality of this movie. Overall the script prevails without an overabundance of the Rocky formula, while still giving us that Rocky feeling. Also they answer the question of who won during the third fight of Apolo and Rocky. Overall, the movie is fantastic. The cinematography shows us the grittiness of Pittsburgh while giving the audience fantastic fight scenes that can rivial any boxing movie. The acting sells us on the script as well, with Jordan and Stallone seeming like they've been acting together for years. This might be the most surprising movie of th year to some as well. Creed is the second best Rocky movie of all-time and might be the be the best boxing movie since Ragging Bull. 9/10

SPECTRE

There comes a time in each industries life that indicates they’ve simply given up. The movie industry seems to be moving in that direction as movies this year are either sequels, adaptations or even remakes. These types of films shouldn’t be considered bad but they do remind the audience that Hollywood has simply run out of ideas. Spectre is a prime example of studio “giving up”. It seems to wander like a zombie in an industry plagued by repetitiveness. Spectre not only destroys any hope for another great bond movie, but squanders what could have been a great send off for Daniel Craig. This train wreck completely ruins everything that the Craig era of Bond movies stand for, and it seamlessly tares down all of the great moments from the past films. This leaves us with a hollow shell of a movie about one of the most iconic characters in Hollywood. Spectre is another Daniel Craig James Bond movie. Bond has just received a tape M left for him with simple instructions. To kill someone. This someone is the leader of the secret organization called Spectre. It’s an illicit organization does crimes to somewhat keep a balance in the world (reminds me of the Syndicate from almost every media). Bond has to go on another adventure that eventually links all of his past endeavors. They all link together somehow through this organization. Bond has to find out a way to stop this terrorist group before it’s too late. The main problem with the film is the quite silly approach this time around. Skyfall succeeded mostly on a grim take that really allowed the audience to connect with the character. Craig doesn’t want to be Bond for a while, stating that the character has grown stale over the years. This is extremely true as we see a completely different character this time around. The screenwriters have resorted in giving us a bond that’s a cliché resemblance of the past. To think of it as a whole, the movie is a cliché of the past. Instead of giving us a great plot with interesting characters, we’re treated with hollow characters, laughable dialogue, a cliché plot, a disappointing villain and many other atrocities. Clichés are given to us on a silver platter which we’re supposed to swallow without saying a word. Though they’re extremely laughable in mostly every scene. There’s more than one part where the villain survives what should have been a killing blow. The audience watches as small little occurrences pop up that help drive the story along. At one point Bond so happens to wake up as a mouse in sitting the middle of the bedroom. Instead of shooting it, he lets it go back into its home in the wall. This allows bond to find a secret passage. This lazy writing is just one of the many things the screenwriters do. Some blame has to fall on the director, Sam Mendes. The blend of old school bond and new school bond doesn’t mix at all. This allows for cheesiness into the film. Casino Royale and Skyfall seemed to take themselves seriously enough not to have elaborate action sequences. The movie throws all that out of the window with actions scenes that seem to never end. A ten minute chase scene and then a ten minute fight scene. At one point bond is chasing a helicopter, with a boat and destroys it with his gun. The movie isn’t all that bad though. The direction of the movie is very well done and the cinematography quite good. Although the actions scenes seem long and out of place, they’re very well-choreographed. Other than Lea Seydoux, the actors do a pretty great job. The portrayal of James Bond isn’t the best, but Craig tries his best with what he’s got. Overall, Spectre could have been an amazing Bond film that really gave Craig a sendoff he deserves. However, it’s a movie bogged down by clichés that never seem to end. Ultimately this leads a movie that simply can’t be taken seriously. The connection to the last films is an interesting story, but it’s ultimately a cliché. Spectre is for those fans wanting to live the glory days of James bond films or can look past clichés that have plagued James Bonds films in the past. However, it could have done away with what’s ultimately the worst script in the series. 2/10 20%

My review on inside out This exceeded expectations and more. Pixar is back with this one (until they make cars 3 of course). The fiftieth movie in the Pixar saga is an instant classic. This is the funnies Pixar movie sense find memo and is the third best in the franchise. Only find memo and monsters inc. top it and that's saying something. The movie focuses on the emotions of humans. How emotions start, how they grew, and now they evolve. The movie is simply brilliant. This is the most or second most smartest movie ever. (Only movie to maybe top it is spirited away). The whole process that these emotions go through it amazing. They sleep, they have emotions themselves, etc. The world they live in is the most impressive part of the movie. How each core memory has its own world, how dreams have their own world, and even how imaginations have their own world. This all constructs who we are as people. They story is of how the core memories getting messed with and then sent away with joy and sadness. They have to get back to headquarters in order to ha panniers and Riley's (main character) whole existence. Though it won't be easy as they both will have trials and potential disasters to overcome. It's a movie with great emotion as the forefront. It leaves you sad and happy (irony and mind blown). It's a great insight into what happens when someone gets depressed. The subtle things are also done so well. The little details in the worlds, the things they say, the things they do, etc, all add up a movie that is by far the best move of the year. Overall I'm impressed that Pixar took a step back and really but their heart and soul into this movie. It shows on the screen. This is not just another great movie from a great studio, but a triumph of what the human mind can do and accomplish. 9.7/10

This movie isn't for everyone because everyone won't simply get it. That's fine but don't hate because you simply don't understand it. The style is unique, the characters are even more unique, and the setting are down right unique. A place of only sand, water, sky, and some dirt; coins be this interesting is beyond me. Also above my pay grade which is nothing. The movie is supposed to be set during the first and second one. Though it's crazier than any Mad Max before. This is the movie that Miller would have made first if he had the same visual effects back then. It's like a acid trip gone right. Car chases, hi octane cars, and a visual effects so that has been lost over the ages. Practical effects over visual effects make MM the best movie of the year. The story keeps you engaged. If you loved the road warrior, then you'll love this too. The road warrior is slightly better because of it being a timeless classic but this does it justice. A movie that will have you on the edge of your sit but you will be wanting to let go and join the ride. Again this movie isn't for people without the ability to comprehend it or those who simply don't understand. Though don't go watch it. For those fans of the original and of people who just love quality movies. Go watch it. Overall it's an awesome chapter into the amazing world of MM and will satisfy those who can appreciate an old movie in a new movie era. 9.5/10

John Wick: The Review The awards season has rolled its head around once more. Either you love it or hate it, but it comes every year. One movie that didn’t receive any recognition is a movie called “John Wick” starring Keanu Reeves. John Wick was a stylized action movie that was unique enough to warrant high praise like an Oscar nomination. This beautifully choreographed action movie with Reeves shooting his way through the Russian mob. However, the movie has only received minor praise by winning some rewards and nominations. While getting snubbed from all major award ceremonies. However, John Wick should be considered on that top tier of movies in 2014. This Chad Stahelski directed film is set in New York and came out last October. It’s Stahelski’s first major film and Reeves comeback movie. Besides “47 Ronin” it has been 6 years since Reeves stared in a major motion picture. It hasn’t been since 2003’s “Matrix Reloaded” that he’s stared in a movie that got positive ratings from critics. Reeves has also accumulated six Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies for short. The Razzies is an awards ceremony that gives awards for the worst in film. The movie has earned Reeves some critical praise for his portrayal of the mob hit man. The movie centers around a man named John Wick (Keanu Reeves). It begins with his wife (played by Bridget Moynahan) who had just died from an undisclosed illness. Wick had just settled down after getting out of hitman business. His last link to a normal life was just taken from him. His wife has one last gift for and it’s in the form of a puppy. John Wick has felt a short of comfort in the fact that a piece of his wife is with him and he now has a companion. Makes his loneliness bearable. Unfortunate events lead to the house being broken into, the car stolen, and the dog killed. Set on revenge, John Wick tries to find the men who did it. Wick discovers from a friend that the son (Alfie Allen) of the Russian mob boss (Michael Nyqvist) was involved. Wick is ultimately pulled into the life that he tried so hard to get away from. This sends him down a tale of revenge and despair. Wick tries to seek revenge for the last thing in his life that he held dear to his heart. John Wick is ultimately an action movies. This doesn’t hurt the movie at all, as the movie gets A in every category. The movie is a beautiful display of camera perfection. The cinematography is what sets it apart from most movies these days. Everything has this blue colorful tone around the lens. The camera gives colorful detail and Johnathan Sela. (Cinematographer) dominates at his craft. This camera allows the subtleness of Stahelski direction allows the movie to shine. Though the best part is both the dialogue and the acting. Keanu Reeves history doesn’t affect his fantastic work in this movie. Delivering a performance that could rival Bruce Willis in the movie “Die Hard”. His diameter is very subtle like the movie is trying to be. He delivers the splendid dialogue like it comes out naturally. “People keep asking if I’m back, yeah I’m think I’m back!” The realistic and phenomenal performances leave the audiences wanting more. Overall, “John Wick” might have some action clichés. However, the movie accelerants past most movies of this year with a great plot, breathtaking performances, and dialogue that will impress Shakespeare. Rating: 96% Letter Grade: A

Very good movie. It's a smart tale about a guy who is one of them smartest people to every exist on this planet. It tells the true story of Allen Turing, who is almost like Sheldon from the Big Bang theory. Socially awarded but a genius (also ironically that the actor and the character is this movie are both gay). The movies really only weakness is that it's slow and has parts that shouldn't be in the movie. There's also parts that seem Hollywoodized because of the original story maybe being "too boring". Though that is does hinder the movie, the movie is still one of the best movies in 2014. Like I stated before, it's smart and it knows it. Overall I'm satisfied with this great tragic tale of a man just trying to help people. 9.4

This is a movie with a lot of idiots saying this and that about it. Simply it's intense, inspiring, and sad. Throughout Chris's life he had tragedies. From his friends to himself. There has been speculation that Kyle was more of a **** than the movie shows. This might be true but he still shrived to help his fellow marines and fellow people out. He said that he loved killing the enemy. I don't mind this because....they were the enemy. Like he said, he will stand proud and answer to every shot he took to his creator. The ending is where it left our theater silent. You could hear a pin drop because people didn't expect something like that. The best part is Cooper's performance. From Hangover to this, Bradley has completely revamped his career. Another great part of this was story, it just kept you engaged and the dialgogue was on point. The amazing part of this ****'s all real. These men went through this as they tried to fight for out freedoms. Give them respect that they deserved. For all the evil, it was done by people who told them to do it. He had unstoppable power to get the job done and protect those he loved the most. Overall it's the best or one of the best movies to this early 2015. 9.3.

Also of over abundance emotion that **** the life out of the scene. Emotion is good and this movie does its share of its. Though it sticks to action and a certain code. Telling the story as well and as straight forward as possible. No fluff, no boundaries, and nothing that would distract from the story itself. This pretty good premise had promise until the **** ending. The movie was good until it tried too hard to be unique. The movie is actually one of the better unofficial "found footage" genre movies, sadly. The beginning has it's flaws, but the pace and story of the stone is actually pretty well done. There's this stone called "Philosophers Stone" (KIND of a copy of Harry Potter) that is suppose to basically heal and give the owner internal life....basically harry potter. Scarlet finds out that the stone is in Paris and they go after it. Well this is where things are actually pretty good. Creepy things happen in the Catacombs. The good thing about this movie is the one fact that plague a lot of found footage movies "why are you still filming". They move the camera onto a head light, like a go camera. So "still filming" doesn't go through the audience's minds...well that's a small good thing about the movie. After half way through the movie, the story of the stone is quite stupid and turns into a backwards and confusing premise....that's really awkwardly pretentious. Its nothing to watch in theaters....just watch it on Netflix when it arrive there in the future...just don't stay for the ending. Overall I didn't thing it was god awful, but the movie is too confusing and pretentious for its own good. 5.8

It's not corny or sappy, but really shows what the characters truly are. It's fantastically and will go down as one of the best superhero movie period. As a frequent movie goes, I'm always at the movies. I'm watching whatever comes out that week. Whatever comes out, I'm always there. As this week came around, there really wasn't anything coming out. Rio was quite a joke and the second one seemed worse. Oculus looked like a joke of a movie and didn't interest me. So I went to see this strange movie by Wes Anderson. Wes in my eyes is a hot and cold director. I've only seen two of his movies. Royal Tennebaums (good) and Moonrise Kingdom (bad) were the only two I've seen. It did get my attention because of the RT score and I did like RT. I wasn't disappointed, as this movie is one of my favorite comedies of all time. It follows the adventures of M. Gustave and his lobby boy as he is framed from murder. The very crass and vulgar movie is saved by this very weird stylish film. Everything (and I mean everything) fits together and the superstar cast doesn't disappoint. I could go on and on about this litter wonderful movie, but I could talk for hours on it. If you like Anderson, I would recommend it. If you don't then I might stay away. Though I know a lot of people who doesn't like him actually liked him. Overall 2014 is saved no matter what happens after this. If Godzilla fails and everything else just **** doesn't matter. This year was saved with the top 3 comedy movie ever. 9.5/10

When going into a 300 movie, you don't expect it to me smart as hell and the best movie ever. However, you walk into it thinking at least it will be dumb fun. This was dumb fun during the fight scenes and the other scenes were taken too seriously. It was as if the director wanted it to be smart, but used silly characters and quite silly premise. It also had a creatures that were quite silly and unnecessary as well. Unlike the original, where the creatures were pretty human and didn't seem too far fetched. These seemed useless. The special effects were impressive and the comic book feel was rewarding. It was just dogged down by quite lame action scenes with the fighters seeming supper hero. Though this really wasn't a negative, because its a war movie and I should have suspected that. The special effects though of the fighting seemed fake. Almost like a video game or Matrix reloaded when he fought all the Smiths. The fight scenes wasn't too bad, but wasn't as good as the original. I don't want a movie like this to be completely factional correct, but something like the formation of Spartans, the random idea for the Persians to back themselves into a corner, and even the use of slaves wasn't rewarding. Overall the movie wasn't too bad and it seemed like it could have been worse. Though scenes like the random sex scene were useless things in the movie. Things that could have been approved and or left out. Overall I wasn't angry at the movie and don't really consider it a score. I would give it a 6.5/10

The first one was one of those movies that you hated or only though was alright. Certain things about the first one was crappy as hell (CGI orcs). This one was completely on another level. Loved it from start to finish and the ending was perfect. The music at the end should win an Oscar, because it was awesome. There were a few flaws in it like the fact that Legolas had a bigger role and the length of the movie was just way too long...other than that I loved it. The fight scenes were top notch, it was funny, the dragon scene was amazing, etc.
