Everything about Donkey Kong Country Returns is so fluid and smooth. Retro constantly surprises players with new game mechanics, striking set pieces and tons of Donkey Kong charm. This title is quite possibly the definitive side-scrolling platform experience for Wii.

The best Donkey Kong game ever made. It's fun to play alone or with friends, there are tons of levels and bonus worlds, and I have to admit it's one of the games that defined my childhood. From different characters with unique abilities to challenging bosses you'll want to fight a thousand times just for the sheer fun of it. It even makes me reconsider buying a Wii again.

One of the best 2D platforms game in the last years.Varied game, full of possibilities and long. Donkey Kong Country Returns has a polished gameplay and briliant artistic designs in the return of the most famous virtual monkey.

It's a clever and challenging platformer that consistently hits the sweet spot between fun and frustration. You're guaranteed to rage in a few stops, but at the end of the day, it's still good to be Kong.

Donkey Kong's newest adventure makes traditional platforming feel fresh again, thanks to clever level design and great artistic touches.

It brings back a style of platforming that hasn't been seen in over a decade, and it pulls it off with a great assortment of well-designed levels.

Retro Studios has done a fine job with the Donkey Kong Country concept, ably translating its appeal for a modern platform, but it doesn't push it much further. [Christmas 2010, p.92]

Best donkey kong game ever. I love this game since the first time I saw it. Lots of levels, lots of collectibles, extremely fun.

Funny monkey platformer. It's hard as hell, but it's cool. I don't have much else to say.

Even though DONKEY KONG Country Returns may not be better than the original DONKEY KONG Country, because I'm not such a big fan of some of level design, the Rocket Barrel levels, or the Motion controls just like 99% of the other Wii games; It is still a really fun game on the Nintendo Wii!

Peccato...

What a thoroughly average game. It's just like the SNES Donkey Kong Country games with higher res graphics, except no longer novel or original. It's even average within its genre (of 2D platforming) within its console (Wii). It doesn't have the co-operative 4-player play of New Super Mario Bros Wii or Rayman: Origins, and it doesn't have the hand-drawn gorgeous cartoon look of Rayman: Origins, both of which are far better games. It's also all the worse (thus below average) for forcing you to shake the wiimote as an input command, which is unacceptable in a twitch platformer. At least Rayman: Origins let you use a Gamecube controller. It's sorta fun, but there are much better games (Rayman, NSMB) for the Wii you should be spending your time on if you love 2D platforming.
