Pokemon Brilliant Diamond3
Jun 26, 2023
My goodness. This game. I have a lot of problems with Brilliant Diamond. If you want my opinion, flat out, don't buy it. It's bad. But, I'll go into further detail, because the core Pokemon Diamond game is actually very good. So, the story is that you want to become a Pokemon master and catch em all or something. All of the Pokemon tropes are here, team led by a guy who wants to rule the world, it's all predictable. This is more of a problem now, because we've had 9 generations of this. But I never judge a game by plot. In Pokemon, you have to capture Pokemon to have in your team which you use in battles. Basically, if you have never played a Pokemon game before, it's an Rpg. In the last couple of Pokemon remakes, the core game is pretty similar, but there's Pokemon from future gens. This time though, in the main adventure, you only get up to gen 4. All of the cool changes made in future games, gone. Why? So it's "faithful"? The Super Mario 3D World remake added new moves so it was more in line with Odyssey. No one is angry about that. And the player character has full 360 degree movement, but in cutscenes the other characters are stuck on grids. TM's are broken, even though they were FIXED COMPLETELY in later games! Adding insult to injury, there's an underground minigame thing, where they added Pokemon FROM FUTURE GENERATIONS!! Not to mention these Pokemon aren't stuck in grass like everywhere else in the game. So why? Not to mention XP share is stuck on. This makes the early game way too easy, although the Elite 4 are at least bumped up in difficulty. Like, bumped up a lot. This is probably the only well-balanced thing in the game. And, if you've only played newer games, HMs are back. These are essential TMs you get from finishing off gym leaders. At least you don't have to put it on a Pokemon on your team. That's a good change. Gameplay is really bad. The game is probably a lost cause by this point, but we haven't gotten to the presentation. Let's start off with the good. The music is good. As good as subsequent Pokemon games. It sounds pleasing. And the sound effects are good as well. The in-battle sprites look pretty OK. Nothing amazing, but they look nice. Okay, no more beating around the bush, lets talk about the overworld. The characters adopt a gross Chibi style. It's hard to take the characters seriously when they're plotting to destroy the Pokemon world, but they have a compacted frown and their eyes are tiny. When it zooms in when a cutscene happens, they look dreadful, for lack of better word. Everything else in the world is just copy-and-pasted blocks. All of the trees look the same. And when something is supposed to appear cool, it never does. "Wow, this city has a giant electronic solar panel walkway!" Yeah, but it just looks like a standard sidewalk. The game has this style because the original on DS had to have this style. It was pixelated and the game would look bad without it. But it doesn't need this style anymore! This is just cheap. With content, not much to say here. The main adventure takes about 15 hours, but not much outside of that. You could shiny hunt, but it's incredibly cumbersome in this game. There's online trading and battling, and there's also a gauntlet with the Battle Tower that I haven't tried. The underground is a cool multiplayer collectible thing where you try to get treasures to decorate your secret base. So that's cool I guess. You can catch em all, but I've never really been into that. There's no Platinum content, which I don't understand. Why would you not include things from the superior version? They're losing nothing from including that. I guess some cool extra content is that you can glitch out of bounds? Yeah, it's not a super stable game, although it's not as bad as like Cyberpunk or S/V, but they are still there. Overall, I do not like this game. The whole game is a missed opportunity. If you want Pokemon, play Legends: Arceus. It's much more interesting, it looks much better, it has TONS of content, and it plays like a dream. Original Diamond and Pearl could be argued to be the better version!

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe10
Mar 13, 2023
Kirby’s Return to Dreamland was originally a Wii game. Many Wii games do not hold up well, and Nintendo’s recent “Remakes” have not been amazing. They’re basically just $60 ports. However, this one looks different. Let’s check out Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe. So as Kirby and friends are lollygagging around, a giant spaceship called the Lor Starcutter crashes down. Inside, an alien named Magolor is sad, because his ship broke and the parts are scattered around Kirby’s homeworld, Dreamland. Kirby decides to help, and they set out on an adventure. It’s a 2D Kirby game, at its core. Your goal is to make it to the goal while collecting secrets. If you’re new, Kirby can jump indefinitely. He can also **** up and spit out enemies. Some, he can absorb and gain their abilities. There are 2 brand-new ones: Mecha and Sand. Mecha turns Kirby into a cyborg, and it’s a lot of fun to use. Sand is my favorite ability. It’s so versatile. All the levels are accommodated for them, and they were never broken. The level design is amazing. They are a good length, but never drag on. There are many mechanics and they are never cumbersome. In fact, no level was poorly designed. Also, the bosses are very good. So 10/10 gameplay. It isn’t very innovative, but it’s still a lot of fun to play, and it’s very clean and easy to use. With the graphics, a big thing is that all the characters are cell-shaded. It’s hard to notice during gameplay and it looks very good. The backgrounds and textures are gorgeous, and the game runs at a smooth 60 fps. The graphics are bright and colorful. When I saw a loop-de-loop rainbow, I fell in love with the presentation. As for the music, it has a special Kirby-sound font that I really love. 10/10 presentation. I guess someone could not like the cell-shadedness, but it has an amazing presentation. There are 3 main modes in my opinion. The main story, a minigame collection called Merry Magoland and the Magolor Epilogue. There are 3-5 collectibles per level, and there are many levels. There’s a harder mode after the main story, and 2 boss rush modes. There are also the Kirby staples like the extra games (If you haven’t already, play Forgotten Land), the jukebox and theater.Merry Magoland is a minigame collection. It gives me heavy Nintendo Land vibes. There are 120 missions to complete, and you can get masks to wear during it and the story. Finally, the Magolor epilogue stars Magolor after the story. He’s lost all of his powers and you need to collect coin-like things in order to get them back. You can do this by getting combos while defeating enemies. This is my favorite part of the whole package. It adds some much needed progression to the Kirby formula. I really like Magolor, and it’s great to see him get more development. It even ties into the spin-offs! Also, all of the modes are playable with up to four players. This will take you a while, so don’t be worried about it being over too fast. 10/10 on the content. This remake hovered above and beyond my expectations. I really do recommend it. I’d say it’s the best 2D platformer on the Switch! Please check out Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe. I hope you have a great day!

Wario: Master of Disguise4
Jan 21, 2023
Wario: Master of Disguise. A very obscure DS game. Nintendo made lots of games for the DS. Many will go down in history as masterpieces like Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl and New Super Mario Bros. But, there are some virtually unknown games. Like Meteos and, you guessed it, Wario Master of Disguise. Very recently I got the chance to play this game. So here I’ll cover it. So, without a further ado, here is the most unknown DS game. So one day Wario decided that he wanted to go into a TV, because he saw this show called the Silver Zephyr, about a thief. Wario goes in and lands on the Silver Zephyr, who upon losing his wand, turns into regular old Count Cannoli. Wario grabs his wand who is sentient and named Goodstyle. The wand lets Wario change his outfit. He wants Wario to gather the Wishstone in order to let Wario have all the treasure in the world. Story is a major focus, so no spoilers. Wario: Master of Disguise is a CastleRoid game, or Metroidvania if you’re a weirdo. There are 10 large levels that you clear in order. You get abilities in levels that you keep, but you play them in linear order. You can also find treasure chests, and when you open them, you play a minigame. They are so bland it’s insulting. Sometimes you have to color things in. Yeah. You need to get other items as well. Imagine if in Metroid, you would have to change your suit by drawing something on the screen to use 3 of your abilities, and then change it back when you’re done. That’s the disguise mechanic. Despite this, I like the disguise mechanic, but the controls are super gimmicky. You need to draw things on the screen to do actions, change disguise, and access doors. It’s kind of uncomfortable. One action requires you to blow on the screen. I did that, and my dog got angry at me and attacked my DS. The speed of the game is a lot slower than many other 2D platformers. I played Wario Land 4 at the same time, and it was much faster. The drawing in the controls make it slower. The bosses require fast movement and it can be clunky. The bosses are good, however. There is one every level (Except level 3). Some aren’t great, but there are standouts. The gameplay gets a 4/10. Super gimmicky, and the controls are garbage. The DS isn’t incredibly powerful. The graphics are bright and colorful, and the enemies will have you laughing. To be honest, it looks better than other DS games like New Super Mario Bros. I wish it looked like Wario Land 4, but it still looks good. But again, I wish it looked better. The music is either too hard rock or too soft. There aren’t many standouts, but the final boss theme is so amazing. It sounds like something you’d find in Undertale. 7/10 presentation. It’s very good. Content here isn’t great. As I said before, there are 10 levels. There are 5 bonus ones that play differently. And there is a coffee book that contains minigames, enemies, and stuff like that. You can discover all of them, and play the minigames and get medals on them. The levels also have high-score based replay value. Other than that though, what you see is what you get. 2/10 content. Not good. I’m rating it a two because at least there’s something. I found Wario: Master of Disguise to be much better than I thought. With that being said, I do NOT recommend it. If you can find it for under $30, by all means, go for it. But that’s rare. As it stands, Wario: Master of Disguise is the forgotten Wario game, that’s hidden but not a gem. Now, you probably think I was way too hard on this game. But I’m breaking away from the standard formula. I bet you think a 7/10 is bad. A 4/10 is where what most think a 7/10 is here. Just saying this so there’s no confusion. Wario: Master of Disguise is by no means a good game. But I rated it better than you think. Maybe.

I haven't played many Pokemon games. Before this, only Diamond. But this game was the reason I bought a Switch. I thought it would be great! But, as you can see, I didn't love it so much. Why? Isn't a Pokemon game a Pokemon game, at heart? The story-where to begin? They highlighted gyms, even though they were gone for, like, 4 years. Whatever. This chairman guy sees potential in you, and same as the champion. So you join the Pokemon league. Oh boy! Pokemon games always have at least satisfactory stories, but this one makes no sense. Pokemon games play very similarly. Don't fix something that isn't broken, right? Well, it gets stale. These games have become more and more linear, and you don't get to do decide your fate... at all. It becomes very, very, VERY boring. There is an open-world area called the wild area. I think that it is the predecessor to Legends: Arceus or Scarlet & Violet. But it's just so worn in and small. 6/10 gameplay. Way too boring. The presentation isn't great. It doesn't load that well. If you're expecting a game that looks good and runs well, like Super Mario Odyssey, don't be surprised if it's not what you want. It doesn't load that well, look good, and runs at 30 fps. The music is pretty good, though. Toby Fox composed a song. 7/10 presentation. Nothing to say. It's content is a bit light. The main adventure is too easy, and takes 10 hours. The post-game takes about 5 hours. Then you can "Catch Em All!" and shiny hunt. Yeah, this should be a 40 dollar game. Captain Toad Treasure Tracker cost that much. I didn't play it, but I hear it has a lot of content. 6/10 content. It is way too linear, and what was good in it is way too worn in. I don't get why Scarlet & Violet has a lower user score. It is ambitious, big, and creative. Gen 8 was pretty good, but this game wasn't. I'm sorry, everyone in the U.K.

Miis, am I right? Many people love Miis. Others don’t like them as much, saying they're old and crusty. I think they should return. In 2021, I saw the direct and this game and was immediately hyped. I didn't play it on the 3DS, so what? I'm ranking the Switch version. Anyway, how is it? Well, I guess you can tell how much I liked it.... The plot is your Mii lives in a village, and the dark lord steals their faces. Oh no. Your character inherits a locket which gives them abilities. Eh. It's fine, for a Nintendo plot. So it's kind of an RPG. You have 4 party members at most, but you can only actually control yourself. It may seem simple, but there are salt shakers that can give your Miis buffs. It doesn't play like a standard RPG, as it has levels that you don't control the Miis movement in. It’s pretty hands-off, actually. You get rewards and encounters. You eventually go to an Inn, where your Miis can rest up, eat, and play minigames. I feel like this is most of the fun in the game, as your Miis grow bonds that help them in battle. You can get buffs with food, and armor that makes them stronger. 8.5/10. The gameplay is a mixed bag, but overall good. The presentation (spoilers) is pretty good. The themes are interesting and the Miis are very expressive. You can see the Miis interacting with each other, and in levels there are cutscenes which I love watching. It's locales make me feel like I was on the barrel hype train for the 3DS (Even though I wasn't) and I love them. The music is quite noticeable. You'll love it. 10/10. I LOVE IT! It's content is as far as an RPG goes. There are 9 worlds worth of content. There are many levels, quests, and cutscenes. There's a hub which you can receive quests in, and there are a lot. But you'll get bored 5 hours after the main story (Which takes a while) so it's about 30 hours of content. 7/10 on the content. It's good as far as an RPG goes. I like this game. But it is overrated. I won't tell you to NOT get this game, but take into consideration how long before it's over. I still like this game though.

Okay… so it has a 2.9 user score right now. That’s not good. So what are all these complaints about? Is it the successor of Arceus? The story is amped up from Sword & Shield. By that I mean it’s much better. The characters are more fleshed out, and I actually like some of the gym leaders. I’m not going to spoil because it’s brand new. It plays a lot like Arceus, which is good. There are some changes, my least favorite being the removal of the roll. You also can’t cycle between Pokémon just by pressing L or R. There is a new way to battle without going into a battle sequence, and it’s helpful. Yeah, the overall gameplay is very good. But the presentation…. The Switch is no powerhouse. Anyone who has played a ported console game will know. Scarlet and Violet does not look good. Adding insult to injury, it runs at like 15 fps. At the start it’s really noticeable, but everywhere else it looks fine. The soundtrack, however is stellar. Toby Fox composed some of the songs, and some sound like they’re straight out of Undertale or Deltarune. The presentation doesn’t bring it down too much, but it is a valid point. It has tons of content. I don’t even know how long it takes to beat, let alone 100%. Whoever plays it will be satisfied with 3 different stories, Elite 4, and a post-game, I’m guessing. I personally think it is better than Sword and Shield. Pretty controversial, and someone could say it’s rushed. It has basic features, and comparing it to Mario Tennis Aces would be a bad idea. If you are planning on giving this to someone for Christmas, they won’t complain about it unless they’re 30 and live in your basement. The people who complain about it do have valid points, but I think it’s good, and it’ll probably be fixed later.

Super Mario 3D World10
Nov 6, 2022
The Wii U was a failure. The console wasn't bad, though. The marketing was horrible. Lots of the games were bad. But, there were some good games. 3D world is horribly underrated. "Oh, really?" some may say. But I will prove this is the best Wii U game. Wait, Mario and Luigi are PLUMBERS? The story is that Bowser, instead of stealing one princess, he steals eight. It's by no standard good, but story doesn't decide a platformer. It is a linear platformer like 3D land. Lots of people don't like this. I prefer the open-world style, but this is fine. The levels were designed for 4 players, but they're fine for 1 player. But I have to say, this is the best multiplayer in any Mario game. There are 4 collectibles per level, each not being impossible to find. There are 4 characters you can play as, and you need to swap occasionally to get certain collectibles. There is also a character after the game. You need them to progress to boss levels, but this wasn't an issue, even when I played for the first time when I was FIVE! The bosses are easy though, and they have my least favorite character ever, Boom Boom. I could rant on and on about why I hate Boom Boom, but luckily a lot of them are creative. Some of the levels seem like experiences of their own, and I sometimes still like to play. The gameplay is a 9/10. Very solid. The presentation is the same as most Mario games in HD. The locations are old Mario POIs, but better. On the world map they seem uninspired, but in-level they look gorgeous. Like Puffprod Peaks. Seeing it gives me so much nostalgia. The music is the best of any mainline Mario game. Puffprod Peaks is my favorite. It gets a 9/10. You'll like the presentation. It takes about 15 hours to beat. If you are only playing the story, it's easy and short. If you are only playing the story WHAT ARE YOU DOING??? It takes about 50 hours to beat. There is 3 post-game worlds, and there is a very good 100% reward that I won't spoil. There are 3 stars per level and 1 stamp that you COULD use for Miiverse, but on the Switch you can take pictures with them. The content is a 10/10. Lots of content. This game, on the surface, looks shallow, but grows on you like moss. I am heavily nostalgic for this game as it was the first I ever played. People who didn't get the Wii U missed out. I like it more than the Switch. Nintendo experimented back then, but in the Switch era, they don't even try. Get this game on the Wii U or Switch. Please.

Metroid Dread10
Nov 6, 2022
As someone who has never played a Metroid game, I found this game to be vastly different from other 2D platformers I’ve played. Is that a good thing? Sometimes yes sometimes no. But this time is a definite yes. It is a Metroidvania game at its core. What did you expect? It made the genre (well, half of it anyway). And it has aged well. It is a lot of fun to play. At the start it can feel frustrating because you can’t go anywhere, but there is a serious sense of progression and it is very satisfying to find something new. I have to say that the controls are crispy clean, and I personally wouldn’t change them. Its difficulty is the main thing people talk about with this game. It is the first Nintendo game in a long time with perfect difficulty. Some of the bosses were really hard to figure out, but you just have to keep trying, and it’ll get easier. But I still died 200 times. The E.m.m.i.s didn’t help as they provide chase sections which are easy to slip up on, but as long as you stay calm you should be fine during them. In the start of the game they are everywhere, but later you don’t have to worry about them a ton. The game guides you along a little bit, so you shouldn’t be terribly lost. The gameplay is 9/10. It's sometimes pretty hard to find what to do next, but I still love the gameplay. The story is that Samus (or Metroid if you know literally nothing) crashlanded on an alien planet called ZDR. Prior story knowledge is required, but you get a quick recap when you open up a save file. I won’t go into further detail because it is quite a good story. It looks very nice, as far as an alien planet goes. One of the locations is an underground jungle, and it looks gorgeous. I don’t like how there’s just blackness beyond the platforms, but I get why they did it and I don’t know what to put there myself. The music isn’t amazing. However it fits the environment very well, and it didn’t matter a ton.
The presentation is an 10/10. It's memorable, and gorgeous. It has a pretty good main campaign taking 15 hours to beat. You can go for a 100% which would probably take 30 hours. It is also very replayable. But post-story, you get a boss rush mode and some bonus difficulties. This isn’t the kind of game you play for 50 hours, though. The content is a 9/10. Personally I wouldn't play it forever, but that's just me. Some people say, ”Is it worth $60?” I can gladly say it is, and it is a very good purchase. If you aren’t invested in games then I wouldn’t buy it, but if you are looking for something to play for a while then definitely check out Metroid Dread.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land10
Nov 6, 2022
Since 2000, many people have wanted a 3D Kirby game. I didn't, because I wasn't alive back then. But that's beside the point! How is the 3D platformer seemingly every Kirby fan wanted? A vortex **** our pink hero up and brings him, his friends, and 300 Waddle Dees to a new world that seems to be abandoned. He meets a chinchilla-like character named Elfilin, and they need to explore the world. I won't rank the story because that would spoil. Play it for yourself. The most obvious thing about it is that it's a linear platformer. A lot of people don't like this. I don't really have an opinion on this. Frequently I compare this game to Odyssey. I personally like Odyssey's gameplay more, but this is fine. It doesn't bring down the experience. The levels are layered with secrets, specifically Waddle Dees that are needed to fight the world boss. I like this. I love exploration in platformers. There are only 12 copy abilities, but they're all fleshed out and tons of fun to use. There are even evolutions! There are a couple of copy abilities you can't take everywhere. They're called the Mouthful Mode. This is where Kirby inhales something like a car or traffic cone. Kirby looks a bit silly when he eats them, but they're all fleshed out like copy abilities and never overstay their welcome. The gameplay is 9.8/10. The only things bringing it down are nitpicks. How are the graphics? For starters, the detail is amazing. You can see every blade of grass, every bit of skin on Kirby jiggle, and stuff of the like. It has graphics comparable to Luigi's Mansion 3. It really makes a lost world look lively. The locations are beautiful and creative, such as Alivel Mall. It eerily looks like a normal mall, but it looks lively and not-so-eerie. The music is great, too! There was no bad song, and there were some stellar ones, such as Sword of the Surviving Guardian. The presentation is an 11/10, and rivals Luigi's Mansion 3. The game will take you about 15 hours to beat, including post-game. I 100% it, and I got 30 hours on it. There are 300 Waddle Dees as I previously mentioned, and there is another collectible in the post game. There are also collectible figures that you can display in Kirby's home. The content is 9/10. The main game doesn't take too long, but 100% takes just the right amount of time. Is Kirby and the Forgotten Land living up to the hype? YES!! I adore this game, and many other people do as you can see below. This is my second favorite game, and many people's all-time favorite.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe2
Oct 13, 2022
The video game was made to have fun. That, now, is the bottom line. **** isn’t fun, it fails. But most, in order to be liked and known, have to expand on its predecessor. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe had me at a loss for words. Yes, it was fun. I said that for U on the Wii U. But no one has a Wii U and people who do are posers, right? Nintendo loves Wii U ports, but hates to say that the Wii U existed. A lot of these Wii U ports are met with backlash, because people had them on the Wii U and it’s generally, a rip-off. This game is like that. Adding nothing new, it stole Bowser Jr’s Journey’s spotlight and killed AlphaDream because they launched on the same day. It added an easy mode and the princess crown, which then made Bowsette. Kids, never do Twitter. They changed the spin jump button to ZR/ZL, but changed the midair spin to another B press. You can turn it off by doing some input every time you load the game. Why would you do this, Nintendo? Oh, no wait; I forgot people love doing manual inputs every time they load in to change the controls. My bad! It looks the same as it did on the Wii U. It added nothing new, except Toadette. They could have tried, but they didn’t. But hey, hey! They’re Nintendo. If other companies did this, they would never hear the end of it, but Nintendo gets a free pass! NEVER buy this game. I respect you if you bought it, but next time buy Mario Maker 2, which sold less then this! Nintendo can only do this so many times, and my least favorite game ever, is now this. Mario Tennis Aces looks like Mario Odyssey compared to this dumpster fire.

Kirby's Dream Buffet9
Oct 13, 2022
Remember the Wii U era, where we got eshop games like Dr. Luigi? We have none of those on the switch. So, in a surprise tweet, this little game got revealed to us. Does it live up to previous eshop games? Let’s find out. There are 3 games you play in a match of Dream Buffet. A race, minigame, and battle Royale. You could be in fourth place in round 3 ( There are two races; one in round one and one in 3) and still get first place from the battle royale. In Mario Kart, you could be leagues behind in 11th, and by then, you’ve given up. In Dream Buffet, even once the final game is over you can win due to prizes. It makes the game fun for the whole grand prix. One criticism I have is that it’s only 2 player even though it’s marketed as a party game. But the splitscreen is cramped as it is, and I think that you wouldn’t really be able to see much then. 9/10. The gameplay is great! The only complaint I have with it’s presentation is it makes me hungry. It looks very good (and appetizing!). The soundtrack is stellar, with a ton of remixes that sound very good. Listen to Love, Love, Alivel! 10/10 presentation. It has the main Grand Prix, but other then that, what does it have? Well, there are 256 unlockables used to customize your Kirby. I think of it more like a Battle Pass! There is a free-roaming mode where you can test out everything, but other then that, there’s not a ton of content. It cost $15 so I’m not concerned. 10/10. If it was $60, I’d be livid! But it didn’t cost much, so I’ll give it a pass. Plus, you can replay it like Mario party-it’s random. This game could seem underwhelming, but it’s only $15, so any Kirby fan should get this. And even if you aren’t a Kirby fan you should still get this because it is a great introduction to this series. What if Mario Strikers Battle League cost $15?

New Super Mario Bros. U7
Oct 10, 2022
New Super Mario Bros U came out in the same year as New Super Mario Bros. 2. As a Wii U launch game, it got more copies bought that it would have if it was not a launch game. Right now, you’re probably saying,”Say that again?” It sold better then it should’ve. Does it hold up today? The story is a little bit different. Instead, PEACH’s castle was taken over. Well, story never defines a platforming game (Much less a Mario game). The gameplay is the same as it always was, and they added a minimal amount of new gimmicks, which really brought the game down. I’m starting to feel like this is just New Super Mario Bros. Wii. There is one new power up and an “infinite” version of that same power up. The Nabbit chases were probably the only original part. The overall presentation is good, just not memorable. The locations are the same as in Wii and 2. There’s nothing that really stood out to me. The soundtrack is bah-bah-boring, and most of the songs are old, and the new ones are bah remixes of the original Super Mario Bros. soundtrack. There is quite a bit of content. 3 stars in every level, and if you get a world, you get an extra level. There are some other challenge modes which are a lot of fun, but they are limited and they’re nothing you can’t make in Mario Maker. There are also battle modes against your friends, which I never played because I will never play a 2d platformer with friends. This game is so similar to Wii, it should be called New Super Mario Bros: Wiihash. If you don’t own any other 2d Mario game or Mario Maker, then maybe you should get this. Not on the Switch though…

WarioWare: Get It Together!8
Oct 7, 2022
Warioware: Get It Together is the Warioware for the switch. Duh. But it was 4 years late! Usually they come around the launch, but this didn’t. Better late then never, in the simplified words of Shigeru Miyamoto. This Warioware’s gimmick is that you can play as the characters. Each have their own gimmick that makes them special, and each takes a while to master. Although you’ll probably just be using Ashley the entire time. There are 200 new micro games. They are all new, compared to Gold which had 300 old ones. There are many levels, with special micro games and boss games. Other then the main mode, there are others. The Variety Pack has a bunch of multiplayer games, each being vastly different. I really like this part, and I wish we got DLC mini games. The Wario Cup is the form of online, and it’s okay. You get highscores on some games thrown together with a gimmick, and depending on what the rest of the world got you get prizes. It could have been more, but it wasn’t. This game was fun while it lasted, but it loses its sense after 15 hours of gameplay. Still fun, and I’d recommend it.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus10
Sep 24, 2022
When this Pokémon presents happened, everyone thought the remakes would be the thing to talk about. And this happened. Open world Pokémon. How about that? If you don’t know what that means, then it means the world is much more open and explorable. It feels much more immersive and personalized. This is much better than the old Pokémon formula. Not to say that the old formula is bad, but it’s leagues behind the new one. The game also looks gorgeous in a hand-drawn sort of way. The music is quite good, and reminds me of Diamond & Pearl. The story is that you are teleported by some diety to when Sinnoh, or Hisui as it was called, and stop the powered-up Pokémon terrorizing the region, whilst filling up that Pokédex. I won’t go into further detail, but the story is quite intricate. There is more content then Mario Odyssey. There are tons of side quests and a post game. This is hours and if you want the true ending, you need all the Pokémon. This game is what the new Pokémon formula is. I’m excited for Scarlet and Violet already.

Mario Kart DS10
Sep 12, 2022
This game is so good for no reason. I’m not a huge fan of Mario Kart,(My favorite Mario spin-offs are the Paper Marios) but this game got me hooked. The last Mario Kart, Mario Kart for the GBA, wasn’t the greatest. But in 4 years, they went from trash to treasure. How? This Mario Kart had a huge graphical update, as the DS could at least try to do 3d, while the GBA couldn’t at all. The presentation isn’t the star of the show here, but it’s certainly quite good. This game is oozing with content. There are tons of single player unlockables, all found through racing. My favorite unlockable is Waluigi, but I don’t remember how to get him. You could also play as R.O.B if you tried enough. The single player modes are the greatest in the series. You can complete missions to get unlockables. They all have challenge, and while you could rage at them, they were fun. There were lots of online stuff to do, like share your best times on tracks, battle modes (My favorite) and, actual racing. I’m at a loss of words to explain why this game is so good. I think this is the best Mario Kart game. Praise Waluigi Pinball!!

Nintendo Land9
Sep 6, 2022
This game definitely has me blinded by nostalgia. I remember playing games with it for hours with my friends. So, I have averaged out all the opinions and made an honest decision. Nintendo Land is one of the games that came with the Wii U at launch. It was basically the only good game. It was high-score based like Game & Wario, but in a good way. There were 12 mini games, 6 of them 1 player, and 6 of them party, or rather 3 party and 3 party-ish. Every one of them was good, but I had favorites, like Sweet Day and the Balloon Fighter one. Each of them were based on a Nintendo game, retro or new. Mostly retro. You’d gain coins from getting high scores and beating the levels in the party-ish ones. You use them in a lottery to get prizes. I love Miis. I love any game with them. This game uses them, and has a toy-ish look to them. The games can eventually get repetitive, and this is no Wii Sports. Other then that, this is a top-tier party game.

New Super Mario Bros.9
Sep 1, 2022
A lot of people say that New Super Mario Bros, turned what’s old new, and then old again. This was when it was new. At this point, there was no 2d Mario for 14 years. The last one could barely play in color. But this one, is a gem. It has the same story it’s always had, which wasn’t so bad back then, but it’s not good now. Story doesn’t mean a ton in a platformer, though. The new gimmicks are lots of fun. The mega mushroom is an utter blast, the mini mushroom is the worst power-up ever created, and the blue shell is the best power-up ever created. Water levels are still bad though, and mansions aren’t much better. That’s just how it is. Each level tries to do something new, and usually succeeds at doing that. The bosses can be hard, but are very creative. Mummipokey is fun to say, but also difficult and fun. There are 2 other game modes: Mario vs. Luigi and mini games. Mario and Luigi pits Mario and Luigi (by the way, you can play as Luigi normally by holding L and R and pressing A when selecting a file) and they have to get stars. It’s a lot of fun when you can play it, but by now you can’t. Mini games use the touchscreen and are “oodles of fun”. They’re even funnier with friends. I learned to play Poker from it. This game is utter gold and probably my favorite DS game. It’s so sad to see New Super Mario Bros as the platforming series which will never change, but this was a good beginning for it.

Mario Tennis Aces4
Aug 30, 2022
Mario Tennis Aces is the single most disappointing game I have ever played. I do not live in my parents basement, and I am not a priest who worships Mario Sunshine. I bought this game because I thought it would be good. This game didn’t launch with an opening cutscene. When I was told that, I laughed. No one could make a game without an opening cutscene. And yet…. The “story mode” is stupid. You gain nothing from it. I didn’t play past the mansion. The story mode was frankly, lackluster and pointless. The stage selection is bad, as you have to choose everything you need every single time. The character selection is good (you can play as Pauline!) but some characters you have to get through online. You can’t get them if you don’t have online, and they cycle through monthly! Do they think this keeps people “engaged”? I didn’t even bother with the other Mario sports games, and they were the same as this one. The sentence that sums this game up the most is “What happened here?”

Super Mario Odyssey10
Aug 30, 2022
Super Mario Odyssey was the first proper 3D Mario in 15 years. There have been Galaxy and 3D world/land, but those were level-based and linear. Odyssey is open world, like 64 and Sunshine. But some people don’t think it’s the true successor. It isn’t. In fact, it’s better then 64 and Sunshine and Galaxy and all 3D Marios. Why? How? The plot is the same; Bowser kidnapped Peach. It’s never said why he does this, but now he wants to marry her. So, he pulls out all the stops. Mario tries to finish it quick, but Bowser destroys him and sends him flying to a place called Bonneton. He then meets a Bonneteer named Cappy who’s sister was taken by Bowser and placed on Peach’s head. Wow. I did not expect a decent story. The gameplay is that Mario is in a big world which he needs to explore and get Power Moons. Power Moons are used to power up his ship and fly to the next area. If you remember 64 or Sunshine, the stars and shines are more mission based, but you can find these moons anywhere, making the world seem bigger. I like this more because there are all these little nooks and crannies in every kingdom, and you get a nice reward for finding them. To find some, you need to “capture” an enemy. To do this you have to throw Cappy on their head. Then, you posses them and can play as them. This seems weird on the surface, but it’s actually a lot of fun to be a Cheep cheep of Hammer bro and see what it’s like for them. Super Mario Odyssey looks great while running at 60 fps. You can see every hair on Mario and all the scratches on the Chain Chomps. I don’t really have a complaint with the presentation. The locations are very creative and reflect on the presentation nicely. Take Toastarena. Sure, it’s a basic desert, but instead of being Egypt themed, it’s Mexico themed. As a person who lives in a desert very similar to it, I have to say they did it justice. There are also 2 vocalized songs which both sound very good. Odyssey is short. About 10 hours. It’s also a bit easy. But all the content comes from 100% the game. People who don’t like it didn’t play the post-game. In fact, 100% the game will take 70 hours. Wow. You don’t get a game like that often. After you 100% it however, the only thing you can do is play Balloon World. Balloon world is not a reason to go back. A lot of people demote it saying that there’s no reason to play it now, and I kind of agree. But if you haven’t played it before, definitely do. It’s the 6th bestselling Switch game for a reason. It was so good that I, and many others, have it a standing ovation when completed. 2017 was a good year thanks to this stellar game.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury8
Aug 29, 2022
This is purely a rating for Bowsers fury, I love 3d world to death. Bowsers fury is sandbox, but has a weird day- night cycle that I’ll admit, makes the game feel robotic. Everything being cats can also have that effect on you. I like the connected world though, and a sandbox Mario is always welcome. I feel like this was more “testing ground” than an actual game, but I still liked it and it was fun.

Luigi's Mansion 310
Aug 29, 2022
Luigi’s Mansion 3 blew my mind away. The Switch is very behind in hardware, and yet, Luigi’s Mansion 3 pushes the Switch nearly to its breaking point. How is a modern Nintendo game this good? I’ll tell you right now. Luigi and co. are invited to a hotel which is… haunted. What do you expect? He finds a machine called the Poltergust G-00 which helps him take down the ghosts. It gets a lot better, so to avoid spoilers I’ll shut up now. The exploration system is back! You have to solve intricate puzzles with our gooey friend Guigi, who can fit in spaces Luigi can’t, but disintegrates when he touches water. Eventually you find a room filled with ghosts, which at that point you must “**** and Slam” them. It is very satisfying, and a lot of the ghosts are different, and harder to take down. The bosses are a mix of puzzles, and “**** and slamming”. It has, overall, very engaging gameplay. Some people say the controls were outdated. Personally, I don’t think so, but they are different from what you’d expect. It looks like a movie. Everything is perfect about its look, from the detail to the lighting. The locations are stellar and there is a good attention to detail. Next Level Games really did their best. The main campaign will take you up to 15 hours. There are 2 bonus modes; the **** and ScreamPark. The **** puts you in a squad with other people, and you have to clear challenges and get to the roof to fight Big Boo. There are DLC outfits that can make Luigi and ‘80s dancer or a pirate. This mode was the one I played more. ScreamPark is a collection of mini games. The DLC gives you bonus games here. You can only play it local, though. This is a top-tier Switch game. I guarantee you will love it. I say this as a joke sometimes, but here I mean it; Nintendo really delivered with this game.

Paper Mario: The Origami King8
Aug 25, 2022
Paper Mario: The Origami King is better then Color Splash. That is no achievement, or a standard. Compared to the rest of the series, it’s fine. As a stand-alone game, it is superb. Let’s go further in. The story is very good. Mario and Luigi go to a festival, which would be a recipe for disaster if it were sticker themed. Toad town is deserted, so the bros venture inside the castle. Mario and Luigi find an oddly angular Peach, who drops them into her dungeon. Mario, now alone, finds Olivia, the sister of King Olly who has turned many of the inhabitants into Origami. He wraps the castle up in some streamers and Mario and Olivia get away. This is the most emotionally compelling Mario game. Play it yourself to see what I mean. The gameplay is more action and puzzle based. When you do find an enemy, you battle it in a ring-like style. You’ll like the overworld more then the battles. The gameplay is good. They go all out with the paper theme. It’s no Luigi’s Mansion 3, but it looks very good. The locations look nice and are interesting, like Shogun Studios, which is a Japan-Styled theme park. The music is insanely good, a standout being the Shogun Studios theme. There is about 15 hours of story. I wouldn’t 100% it, as that may take very long. A criticism I have is that the characters don’t look interesting. A lot of people say they don’t like it, and I kind of know what they mean. If you’re interested, I’d recommend it. You’ll like it, trust me.

Paper Mario10
Aug 22, 2022
Paper Mario is often overlooked to its sequel. It’s my favorite game, and I’m here to rectify that. Because Paper Mario is one of the greatest video games ever, and the best game of the N64. It’s plot, while being simplistic, really is great. Bowser had kidnapped Peach, but also imprisoned the Seven Star Spirits who grant wishes. Mario needs to travel around the world and save them so he could save Peach. In this day it is kind of bad, but you forget that you’re trying to save Peach when you’re trying to save the Star Spirits. This game was made for beginners in mind, so a lot of the standard RPG elements aren’t here. You have two moves, jump and hammer, and you have to time a certain input to do more damage. The damage is also greatly simplified. In EarthBound, you deal hundreds of damage. Here, you deal up to 6. The enemies have less HP then you’d think, and you deal less damage then you think. You also have partners, but you can only have one out at a time. They each have special abilities and you really are going to need all of them. My favorite is Kooper, because he has an interesting design and personality, but I still loved all of them. The graphics are bad only if you’re highly allergic to cuteness. Instead of going with a weird, polygonal look, they went with a paper-y style. This game looks different from the other games in the series, but that’s not a bad thing. The music is also very good, especially for an N64 game. There is about 15 hours of story, but usually you don’t find everything until you’ve played it 3 times. It has two very long side quests. It’ll take you about 30 hours to 100%, but I still played it 3 times. It’s just a personal thing. Despite its age, this remains one of the best games. Compared to other N64 games, this one is the cutest and probably the best-looking. Best N64 game- or best game ever.
