This is the second AC game I've played through to completion, and unfortunately it has not lived up to the heights of Black Flag. I have little interest in the series unless the setting excites me, and as with the "pirate" theme of AC IV, I was eager to explore the streets of Victorian London. The story is as banal as it has ever been in an AC game, but at least the characters were a little bit more diverse. Had they not included the option to play through the game as Evie I don't believe I would have been able to finish this installment, as Jacob is as boring and cliche as they come. Where this game saves some face is in the presentation of the setting. The visuals are stunning, and the locations spectacular. The World War 1 side mission was enjoyable for as long as it lasted, and was certainly the highlight of this game. However, my main gripe with this game is in the mechanics. New mechanics introduced to the game all worked as expected, but the core mechanic, the parkour the series is marketed on, seems to be devolving rather than evolving from game to game. Animations are buggy and interaction with the environment is terribly mapped. The movement which should feel fluid and fast instead feels awkward and unnatural. Ultimately the grandeur of the game's setting, and avoiding a repeat of the disaster that was unity saved this game from a dismal score. With Black Flag I was eager to play the game every chance I got, and once I completed it I longed for more. With Syndicate my only motivation to complete the game was for the relatively easy Plat trophy. Once that goal was met, I was happy to put the game away and never play it again.

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando8

I had a lot of fun with this game, but I couldn't get into it as much as I did other PS2 classics like the Jak and Daxter games. Still a great game up there with the best of it's generation.

GoldenEye: Rogue Agent7

Fun game, but quite linear. Gameplay can be a bit ridiculous and tedious at times. Solid splitscreen multiplayer offers more depth to the game as the story is not particularly compelling.

Highly enjoyable coop experience, not so fun on its own. Plenty of interesting gameplay mechanics, and offers as much fun as its movie counterpart. Very good game.

Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts8
Mar 14, 2016
Doesn't do much that previous CoD games haven't done already, but does improve upon the poor AI and gameplay of CoD 3 and gets additional points for the more interesting setting, but that's a matter of personal preference.

Call of Duty 37
Mar 14, 2016
Before the Call of Duty Franchise became the pile of **** it is today, it produced games like this where the campaign was the focus, and it was actually important that they put some effort into it. Having said this, this game does have weaker gameplay than the later installations, and the AI is poorly developed, leaving plenty that could have been improved upon.

It's been quite a few years since I completed this game, but as I recall this was a very faithful adaptation of the movie, and had very enjoyable gameplay. I might be wrong though..

Just Cause9
Mar 14, 2016
My most played game on the PS2. There's nothing special about the storyline, but you can spend hours just messing around with the ridiculous physics engine. The map is crazy big meaning there's always something new to find. I recall at one point finding a road in the corner of the map that went down a v shape valley, and a pile of AI vehicles were stuck at the bottom as the road was too steep on either side. You can't not have fun with this game, but maybe I'm biased...

Eragon8
Mar 14, 2016
Though borne out of a truly awful movie adaptation, Eragon the game is actually remarkably well done, and thoroughly enjoyable. Baring similarities to the Lord of the Rings movie games, the game takes you straight into the setpieces from the movie/books with great gameplay and mechanics. Worth a play for any fans of the book series whose eyes have not yet been tainted by the movie.

Destiny8
Mar 14, 2016
Destiny's online multiplayer lives up to it's unofficial predecessor Halo. I haven't had as much fun online in an FPS since Halo 3. However, it does not live up to Halo 3 in all areas. It's lacklustre campaign left me feeling as though they had spent too much time on the multiplayer and not enough on the single player. The concept of destiny is great in principal, but unfortunately it is not executed as well as it could have been. Despite this I got hours of fun out of the multiplayer. I have not invested in the expansion as of yet but perhaps they do something to add some depth to the game.

Unmechanical: Extended Edition7
Mar 14, 2016
A great way to waste a few hours, but not quite offering enough to make it a truly great puzzle platformer. The puzzles are all rather simple, and the game is extremely short, even with the extended edition. Doesn't do anything that other game haven't already done better.

SteamWorld Dig8
Mar 14, 2016
Great game, but too short. Would have been greatly improved if they'd included more than just the one boss fight. Characters and style of the game set it up to be truly fantastic, but it ultimately suffers from a lack of content. Still greatly enjoyed my time playing SteamWorld Dig.

I spent 4 hours one morning trying to complete one platforming puzzle in VVVVV. After hours of frustration I finally completed the game 100% and was left with a feeling of satisfaction few games manage to evoke in the player these days. Excellent game, could have done with a stronger storyline.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP9
Mar 14, 2016
This game has a truly fantastic art style, soundtrack and atmosphere. It also boasts a lot of character, and and interesting story. The only downside is that this game consisted of lengthy periods of just walking from place to place. Unfortunately the conversion of the game from touchscreen platform to pc did not serve this aspect of the game well. The gameplay also lacking, but this isn't a game in the traditional sense of the word, and I don't hold that against it. It is important to consider that it was originally a game designed for touchscreen devices. Where this game lacks in gameplay it offers a whole lot more in other departments than most other games.

Mar 14, 2016
I'll be honest, I cannot pinpoint why this game evoked so much emotion in me. Looking back it seems pretentious and dull. However, thinking back to how I felt when I actually played the game, I recall that I was engrossed in the subtle yet meaningful story, the innovative gameplay and the unique style of the game. I cannot deny that playing this game was one of the most memorable experiences I've had in gaming.

Mar 14, 2016
One of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever experienced. Is it a game? Who cares? Boasting one of the finest soundtracks in gaming history, and a gripping story to complement it, this game is an experience you'd be foolish to pass up. Before playing this game I had a firm opposition to the pixel-art style, and to games lacking in any true gameplay. After playing this game I am happy to acknowledge how wrong I was.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves9
Mar 14, 2016
A worthy addition to my favourite franchise, this game advances on its predecessor's in leaps and bounds, introducing a plethora of new playable characters and gameplay mechanics. The story and setting is as good as always, the only negative is that sadly the game suffers from some of the same game breaking bugs of the prequels, even if you are fortunate to rarely encounter them. Enormously frustrating when you do.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves9
Mar 14, 2016

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King8

Spyro: A Hero's Tail8
Mar 14, 2016
Though none of the sequels in the Spyro franchise lived up to the original, this game was one of the best attempts at capturing the magic of Year of the Dragon. This game introduces many new characters and mechanics, but suffers on occasion from dull gameplay and environments. For the most parts, an excellent game.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon9
Mar 14, 2016
I must acknowledge that as this was the first game I ever played I am probably somewhat biased towards it. However, I truly believe that this is one of the finest examples of classic Playstation games, on par with crash bandicoot. It goes without saying that it does show it's age so many years after its release, but for its time it wasn't far from perfect.

Solid mechanics and a great core idea for a game don't make up for a lack of true content. I enjoyed my time playing this game to a point, until the repetitive and tedious nature of the game dispelled the illusion of depth. Good for a couple of hours enjoyment, but I wish they'd done more with the idea.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag9
Feb 10, 2016
I was never a fan of the Assassin's Creed games, until now. What was it about this game that changed my mind. Friggin' pirates! My absolute favourite aspect of this game was the naval combat and just sailing in general. Even when the fast travel option was available, I often found myself hopping on my boat to sail there instead. I could spend 30 minutes just sitting there listening to my crew sing their sea-songs as we travelled past beautiful coastline and island villages. There was something thoroughly relaxing about the experience, something I have experienced in very few games to this date, and I was happy to indulge my time. The game itself followed the classic Assassin's Creed formula, albeit in a more appealing setting. The combat and parkour mechanics were simplistic but adequately satisfying. All-in-all, having wasted over 100 hours in this game, I can say I enjoyed my time immensley.

Far Cry 49
Feb 10, 2016
Admittedly my opinion of this game might be slightly skewed as I have a hard-on for Indo-Himalayan culture, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The only let down was a slightly generic story. Yes it was almost identical to Far Cry 3 in gameplay and functionality, but if it ain't broke, why fix it?

The Unfinished Swan7
Feb 10, 2016
This game is stunning in visuals and stunning in concept. However it lacks any real challenge, and the story seems to be geared towards a very young audience. Despite this, I was engrossed in the innovative gameplay of the Unfinished Swan, and found myself completing it in one sitting. The length of the game may in fact be an issue for some but I felt it did well not to overstay it's welcome. Maybe the core mechanic of the game could have been utilised further, but I was satisfied with the game as a whole when it did come to an end.

May 27, 2015
Truly a classic platformer, the depth of this game is phenomenal (see what I did there?). With secrets and puzzles to keep you occupied for days, it is so easy to sit back and become absorbed in the tranquil atmosphere of this game, created by a fantastic soundtrack and a gorgeous art style. Loses a single mark for a clunky map/navigation system, and controls that on rare occasions felt somewhat unresponsive. It also could have benefitted from having more in the way of a story, but that's just my opinion. Edit: I just noticed that this game has quite a low user review score. This is due to a load of AAA gamers downloading the game for free from ps+ and then getting upset when they found out there weren't actually any guns in the game, and you actually had to use your brain while playing. Thinking while playing a video game? What an absurd concept.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition8
May 27, 2015
Great sense of style and humour. Combat can get repetitive, as with most brawlers, and the platforming offers the only real challenge in the game, as boss battles are all quite easy. Offers some clever platforming mechanics, but somewhat broken combat mechanics, which hurts the enjoy-ability of the game.

Bloodborne10
Apr 28, 2015
This is the best game I have ever played. Simple as that. Beautiful setting and atmosphere, fantastic story and direction, brilliant mechanics and fluidity and magnificent AI. It is also very difficult, but not so much as the previous From Software games, which for me is it's strongest characteristic. It is infuriatingly difficult, but with skill and caution, it can be conquered, resulting in a sense of satisfaction rarely experienced in video games. Where as I feel the Souls games suffered by being too difficult, Bloodborne poses a challenge to all who play it, but even those new to the From Software way of game design can get to grips with it and enjoy all it has to offer.
