Although laboring like the rest of them in servitude to a mostly nondescript script and a standard issue Marvel plot, Rheon makes the most of his latest dastardly character. Villainy still suits him, even if the drop in quality from Game of Thrones to Marvel’s Inhumans is both obvious and precipitous.

Pretty faithfully adapting the comics, Inhumans tries to bring an operatic quality and look to the material, but the character dynamics simply feel heavy-handed, and the visuals hardly justify a big-screen TV, much less anteing up for an Imax premiere with which Marvel experimented earlier this month.

In short: Flawed execution **** story, enjoyable characters and interesting concepts but still enjoyable enough. Longer version: I saw the negative reviews from fans and critics and was curious as Inhumans were handled well in Agents of Shield. So I started watching the first episode and later the whole show. Rarely if ever were I so divided. The story, characters and concepts / ideas were excellent. The execution however is sometimes really bad. I mean wooden acting, scenes that reminded me of plays at school instead of a show with this budget and other scenes that did not work as intended atop of some bad special effects (I am normally not the guy who rants about this). To be fair they have also sometimes good acting, well done character moments and scenes that make me think how good the show could be if everything was this excellent. Lets start at the beginning: The Inhumans were created long ago by an alien race from normal humans as powerful soldiers to fight for them. Later they abandoned the project and the Inhumans formed their own secluded society while later migrating to the moon to hide their presence. An Inhuman is practically a human with dormant genes that can give him/her superpowers. As passage rite every Inhuman is exposed to Terrigen mist which activates the genes. This is however as much a curse as a blessing. The changes are random and unpredictable. You can get something awesome or mutated into a horrible appearance or even both. For example the king of the Inhumans and his brother were differently cursed by this. Black Bolt the king got voice powers strong enough to destroy a city at full power (in the comics even more from continent to small planet destroying powers). Even a small whisper can kill people around him and he has to live with it. His brother Maximus was transformed into a baseline human and is looked down by others because of it. There is also a strict caste system as the resources and living space is limited (The powers you get also affect your later status but you can also be a prisoner of your role caused by abilities). The story starts shortly after the Inhumans destroyed a lunar rover because it came to close to their hidden home of Attilan on the moon. Maximus started a coup against his brother as there are many unhappy with the caste system. The royal family must hastily flee to Earth and are separated while being hunted. The rest I wont spoil. The story for itself is enjoyable and works well. There are some good twists and reveals that kept me entertained. Sadly there are some scenes that are poorly directed / done / acted. It took me out of the immersion and I can fully understand why others disliked the show. While I am at it: It was a bad idea to give the show an IMAX theatrical release. The people were hyped and expected something far greater. It was a disappointment and a good example for being over-hyped. Back to the review: The acting is similar. There are so many good moments and poor moments. I made the school play example earlier on and I was even not looking for this. I blame it on the script or director as I think the main characters are proven actors. I like all of them and their arcs. Be it Anson Mount as Black Bolt who works so well as silent protagonist in many scenes. Serinda Swan as Medusa also delivers strong scenes as do Ken Leung as Karnak and Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon. Again there are also bad scenes. Iwan Rheon as Maximus is such a great humanly villain (Unintentional joke). I fully understand his motives and flaws. So much character development but not everything is done well but from the potential I say this could have been pure gold. I must also point out that the special effects are somewhat weak. I find Attilan pretty boring and the effects of superpowers were sparingly used. The fight choreography however improved greatly and at the end I will give the (positive credits). Overall this will become my prime example for a hit and miss show. It is so good on paper but does not always deliver. If they introduced the characters into Agents of Shield with their staff and direction it would have been awesome (There is a gap between season 3 and 4 of 6 months in universe that could be used). It is not great but also not as awful as other people rated it.

Those forgetting history are bound to repeat it, as Mick Jagger said.. ^^ I mean when you don't have the budget to do superpowers, you don't. You do kid Batman, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Green Arrow, Jessica Jones etc Same model here, 99% inept talking, 1% action. Except they're supposed to do stuff. Hey let's take Black Bolt not saying a word, Medusa without her hair and a few others without big powers, we can scamake it work. Well.. no u can't, it's just pathetic

Nothing particularly clever happens as the heroes endeavor to extricate themselves from their respective predicaments in the second half; you keep waiting for it, but aside from a bit of pickpocketing... nope.

The dialogue is so poor, even Tyler Perry would wince.

Crammed with incessant exposition and shoddy special effects akin to those in ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” “Inhumans” disappoints from start to finish.

Frank Sinatra and others sang about the best things in life being free, but at least now the same is true of the worst things. ... Who and what we're supposed to be rooting for is maybe the biggest flaw in a series of insurmountable flaws and a crucial bit of storytelling [writer Scott] Buck was unable to crack.

Inhumans has nothing at all to recommend it. Its only superpower is its sheer ineptitude.

This might be the worst show I have ever seen. Complete and utter garbage on almost every level.

What a mess. There's no better word to describe Inhumans. I usually try to find something redeemable in almost anything I watch, but here? Nothing works. Poorly written, poorly directed, and completely soulless. And the saddest part? The source material had real potential — all **** story starts with no context, no proper character introduction, and a string of scenes that don’t excite, don’t surprise, and barely make sense. If you haven’t read the comics or seen other Marvel series, you’re lost. If you have, it's even more painful. Plotlines collapse under their own weight, and the few interesting elements are thrown **** characters are a disaster. Their decisions defy logic, and most of them are symbolically stripped of what makes them unique. The mute lead, who could’ve been compelling, is wasted. And cutting Medusa’s hair? A metaphor for the show’s senseless approach.Visual effects are inconsistent, with some decent moments and others that feel 20 years outdated. The costumes? Hard to take seriously. The low budget is obvious in every **** anything is somewhat tolerable, it's Maximus. At least he has a goal, even if it’s not very fresh. Still, it’s not enough. This series could’ve been a key piece in the Marvel universe. Instead, it’s a textbook case of how not to adapt a comic. A real shame.
