Jeremy Clarkson loves knowing everything, even when he doesn’t know anything, and this inherent conflict continues its bountiful crop yield in Season 5 of Clarkson’s Farm. It’s a consistently fun show, because you can see the contours of Top Gear and The Grand Tour within it, how the host combines thoughtful observations with smart-alecky asides.

Here in season three the very real challenges faced by Diddly Squat give him true pause, and that creates an effective balance against the usual gripes and galavanting. We’re invested in how Clarkson’s going to solve his farm’s host of problems, and particularly enjoy it when the solution as he sees it meets real world whammies.

What started out as just a way to expand Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear and Grand Tour fame as a farmer has since turned often into an unintentional documentary on major UK and world events that have impacted UK farming, with an organically grown cast of local people hired to help him learn and understand the efforts and difficulties of running a small farming business over the years.

There aren’t many popular entertainment series that give airtime to the thorny issue of agrarian monocultures. Somehow it also manages to be highly compelling viewing. This is very well-made television, and perfectly balanced.

There is endless amusement in the odd-couple relationship between the clueless landowner and Kaleb, his assistant: while the knowledgable Kaleb unabashedly informs Clarkson about every one of his many stupid farming errors, his boss hits back by ribbing the younger man about his lack of wider life experience.

By and large, they’re running low on new things for Clarkson to mess up doing and new tricks to try on the 1000 acre Diddley Squat “working” hobby farm. .... But at least the old dog “petrolhead” is finally talking about climate change,

Opening a pub is undeniably a noble pursuit – but this is supposed to be Clarkson’s Farm, not Clarkson’s Pub.

The series amounts to less and less as time goes on. From the staged conceit to Clarkson’s contempt, the bad faith of every aspect of Jeremy Fills the Airwaves is so nakedly on display that each moment feels as if it is hollowing itself out from the inside.

Despite seeing all the hardships Clarkson endures, I still want to move to the middle of England and become a farmer.

A brilliant bit of wholesome fun with a great cast. It has serious educational moments too, when it touches on the struggles farmers face. An all-round great watch.

I absolutely love this show. I think Jeremy is sometimes a bafoon, but that's part of his charm.

This show is meh to me. My husband thinks it is top notch. He is not someone who grew up around farmers or ranchers.
