For smart, strong girls and the guys who like them, Vampire Academy will hit a vein.

Well-directed and fun, if not a bit too long and perhaps concerned with a plot that’s not nearly as engaging as its leads, Vampire Academy is a little smarter than your average teen adventure, but it’s certainly not Heathers or Mean Girls.

Tedious as all this vampire exposition is (and there’s a LOT), the jokey tone here is much appreciated, with everyone “a few corpuscles shy of an artery” and the action as predictable as “a porcupine in a hot tub.”

Fans of the books might enjoy seeing their world brought to life, but most everyone else will likely leave feeling as if they’ve just completed a seminar on vampire lore, and they’re likely to fail any pop quiz that follows.

A film as soul-sucking as any of the fang-baring bores who populate it.

The only thing that distinguishes this teen-magnet wannabe from its predecessors is how lazily it appears to have been slapped together.

One idea, mixed with lame jokes, and stretched beyond coherence. Vampire Academy doesn't need a review. It needs a stake in the heart.

This movie was kind of cheesy especially at the start. But as the movie went on they did stray away from that and this movie does do a lot right. The fight scenes especially are very well choreographed and actually look fairly realistic. I didn't see the twist at the end but at the same time it was still a twist villain in which are my least favorite types of villains. Although I'll give the actor this, he does a protagonist and antagonist fairly well and believable. In fact I've gotta give probs to all the actors as they are fairly good. This movie isn't groundbreaking or anything new but I do recommend it if you're interested in vampires, school dramas, and fighting.

The trailer (and director Mark Waters) would have you believe that this is a cruel high school comedy in the vein of "Mean Girls," but it's the combo of "Twilight' and Harry Potter with liberal helpings of teenage crushes and **** battles. It revolves around 2 best friends (one a vampire and one her protector) who face all manner of challenges at the special school for their kind. All 3 of the funny lines are in the trailer. The rest is a mediocre blend of romance, magic and mystery. It never drags, but doesn't soar either. Young female fans of the book might enjoy it.

I love the books. I was disappointed when I seen this movie. I wish they would stick to the book as much as possible, because after all, that's why your making the movie in the first place because so many people loved the books. I didn't like the characters that were picked either. Overall it's a thumbs down for me.

Badly written script, poorly paced, mish-mash of non-connecting bits and pieces with no segues. It knows it's just another crappy high school film, but it tries to be smarter than it really is, with several references to 80s films that it's target audience isn't going to recognise, and those who do recognise them won't care.
