The Union

All of the action is shot cleanly, and I could always tell where everyone was in relation to one another during the setpieces — which may not sound like much of a win, but if you think that, you clearly haven't watched too many direct-to-streaming movies. If you want something done efficiently, hire a union man.

The mood is light, the stunts impressive and, mercifully, the film is not nearly as cheap-looking nor dull as Netflix brethren such as The Man from Toronto or Lift.

Netflix's The Union is a formulaic spy thriller that wastes its promising premise. Despite the star power of Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, the film suffers from a predictable plot, mediocre action sequences, and shallow character development.

The trouble with The Union is that neither the film nor its characters have much in the way of personality, to the point it’s not even clear how they feel about one another.

The love story between Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry works, or at least meagerly satisfies, on only surface levels, as does most of the movie.

The gimmick is that The Union, in addition to being an action film, is also a sort of comedy of remarriage for Roxanne and Mike, except that the screenwriters, Joe Barton and David Guggenheim, haven’t brought much in the way of levity to the relationship. Nor have they applied much ingenuity to the big set pieces.

The Union delivers tonal whiplash on account of its failure to exceed at either end of its genre attempt at action-comedy.

I missed the first 15 minutes of this movie, but I enjoyed what I sat through. Not a movie guy, but I enjoyed it.

The Union is like any other spy comedy action film uses the same tactics but the chemistry, script, set and action is pretty decent.

Typical Netflix action comedy flick is buoyed by an excellent chemistry between both leads, but feels like a TV Action movie despite a seemingly sizeable budget. As ususal, a good time passer but nothing more.

It's another Netflix dud. Their catalog now feels filled with more brainless, dull, and uninspired films—mindless content for us to keep consuming. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of it. Now, some exceptions are reasonable, and then some are great. But that's just my opinion. With their latest outing, "The Union," I think they have finally started to stop caring about plot, characters, tone, direction, action... etc. Written by Joe Barton and David Guggenheim and directed by Julian Farino, 'The Union' is a film that lacks coherence. The characters' actions seem to have no logical basis, and the plot is equally nonsensical. The writing lacks the energy and excitement that could have made the movie more engaging. Even the visual aspects of the film are disappointing, with visible green screens and poorly choreographed action scenes. Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry's lack of chemistry is palpable. Despite playing childhood sweethearts who reunite after 25 years, their interactions feel forced and unnatural. Their banter is uninspired, and their characters lack any memorable qualities. J.K. Simmons, on the other hand, brings a cynical wit that is somewhat enjoyable. However, the rest of the cast, including Mike Colter, is so forgettable that their characters are not worth mentioning. A lousy movie is not worth recommending.

This probably seemed like a really good idea on paper but it is doa. A nonsensical shadow agency, a plot device that has been done to death for the last 2 decades and a cast without any chemistry. There are a few good action sequences here and some of the locations are stunning. If that's all your really after though just put on Bond, Bourne or Mission Impossible. Atleast they have characters that you can get invested in.
