It's decent as a Mario movie, that's kinda everything I got to say, it's cool fanservice.

È stato un film davvero bello! La trama è semplice, ma riesce a coinvolgere lo spettatore. Mi è piaciuto molto che abbiano inserito dei riferimenti a diversi giochi Nintendo legati a Super Mario.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is exactly what you might expect from a modern Mario adaptation made by Illumination and Nintendo: color, pace, constant references, recognizable worlds, simple humor and the constant feeling of watching a very well-packaged brand. It is not a great film, but it is watchable. And it is certainly much better than that strange 90s version with John Leguizamo, which had its own accidental cult charm, but as a Mario adaptation was pure madness. Here, at least, Mario looks like Mario. The Mushroom Kingdom, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, karts, blocks, pipes, power-ups and music are all where they should be. The film understands that a large part of its audience is not looking for a deep reinvention, but for seeing on screen what they have been playing for decades. In that sense, it delivers. It is colorful, fast and respectful of Nintendo’s **** problem is that it also remains very much on the surface. The story is minimal, the characters have little depth and many scenes feel designed more as a succession of references than as real storytelling. At times, it feels less like a film and more like an animated theme park: everything is pretty, everything moves, everything sounds familiar, but there is not always much underneath.Still, it has charm. Bowser is by far the best thing in it. Jack Black gives him an absurd and funny energy, and the song “Peaches” works very well because it understands the exact tone: silly, catchy and ridiculous in the best possible way. That mix of exaggerated villain and pathetic lovesick monster gives the film some of its most memorable **** also helps that the film has the right length. It does not drag, it does not try to overcomplicate things, and it moves from one world to another as if clearing levels. That can be seen as a limitation, but also as a virtue: a Mario movie did not need two and a half hours of mythology. It needed to move, entertain and avoid becoming heavy. And it does that. What it lacks is a little more soul. It has nostalgia, spectacle and visual fidelity, but not much emotion. For children, it can work perfectly, and for adults who grew up with Mario, there is the pleasure of recognition. But beyond that, it is hard to find a truly memorable film. It is fun while it lasts and fairly forgettable once it **** Super Mario Bros. Movie does not jump to the very top of the flagpole, but it clears the level. It is a correct, likable and very carefully designed adaptation for fans and children, with Bowser stealing the show every time he appears. It is not especially inspired animated cinema, but it is effective family entertainment. And compared with the 90s version, this almost feels like a masterpiece of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Nintendo really pulled off a really good movie for the fans and delivered what the fans wanted for the super Mario movie and was the first time Nintendo made a motion picture movie for the fans of super Mario and legend of Zelda I hope we get more movies from Nintendo if Nintendo keep making more games and we will see more movies and more money for Nintendo and I love the super Mario series it was a really good game series but Nintendo never made a super Mario movie but a another studio Hollywood picture made 1993 Super Mario Bros movie that did not please fans of super Mario but the super Mario movie delivers what the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie did not

They Didn’t Make a Mario Movie. They Made a Mario **** me be clear about something before I get into this: I grew up on Mario. Not casually. I mean sitting on the floor at 7am with the cartridge tilted just right, learning the exact pixel you had to stand on to get the secret item. Mario was mine in a way that felt personal and specific. So I’m not coming into this as a hater. I’m coming in as someone who actually cared — which is exactly why this movie stung the way it did.Because what Nintendo and Illumination made wasn’t a film. It was a delivery system for **** movie doesn’t trust you to feel anything — it just trusts you to remember.Every five minutes, something happens on screen that isn’t a story beat, it’s a trigger. The music cues. The visual callback. The easter egg. The “oh I remember that” moment engineered into the edit like a Pavlovian response test. And audiences clapped. Which, fine. But clapping at a reference isn’t the same as being moved by a story. These are completely different experiences, and the film never once seems to understand **** whole thing runs on nostalgia like a car runs on gas. And when you’re burning that fuel constantly, you never stop to ask: where are we actually going?Mario is a side character in his own movie. This one genuinely bothers me. Chris Pratt’s Mario is likable the way a company mascot is likable — pleasant, inoffensive, totally without depth. He doesn’t make decisions that cost him anything. He doesn’t change. He’s carried forward by the plot rather than driving it. The emotional core of the story — if you can call it that — belongs to the visuals and the set pieces, not to him.Meanwhile Bowser, voiced by Jack Black with obvious commitment and genuine energy, ends up being the most dimensional character in the film almost by accident. He has a want. He has a bit. He has a song. And the movie barely knows what to do with that. You’ve got a villain with more personality than your protagonist and a script that doesn’t **** pacing is relentless in a way that feels defensive.Like the filmmakers were scared that if they let a scene breathe for 30 seconds, you’d check your phone. So instead of breathing, it accelerates. Constantly. There’s always a new environment, a new obstacle, a new piece of IP to acknowledge. It’s not storytelling — it’s stimulation management. And it works on a surface level, the way a loud room keeps you from falling asleep. But exhausting someone into engagement isn’t the same as compelling them.I didn’t feel excited watching it. I felt **** dialogue exists to move bodies from point A to point B.Nobody in this movie says anything worth remembering. Nobody has a conversation that reveals character. The emotional moments are told to you — “this matters, feel this now” — rather than earned. When the film reaches for genuine sentiment it’s borrowing it wholesale from the iconography of the games rather than building anything new. The emotion you feel watching it isn’t coming from the film. It’s coming from you, your own history, your own attachment. The movie is just pointing at that and taking credit for it.That’s a con. A slick, expensive, extremely well-marketed **** games had more soul because they left room for your imagination. Here’s what I keep coming back to. Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, even the original NES game — those games were sparse by design and alive by experience. The world felt big because you were moving through it. The stakes felt real because you were the one losing the lives. Mario worked as a character because you projected yourself onto him — the silence, the openness, the possibility. He was a **** movie turns that canvas into a billboard. This is what it looks like when a beloved thing gets industrialized.Someone in a room — probably many someones in many rooms — made decisions based on data about what Mario fans respond to, what ages the movie needs to hit, what the Chinese market requires, what the theme park synergy should look like. And the result is technically correct in every measurable way. It’s colorful and loud and it has all the pieces. But it has no center. No original thought. No risk taken anywhere in its 92 minutes that wasn’t pre-approved by focus ****’s not a bad movie the way a genuinely strange failed movie is bad. It’s bad the way corporate product is bad — smooth, confident, emptied out.I didn’t leave that theater feeling like a kid again.I left feeling like a demographic.

I’m familiar enough with Mario’s universe to understand its logic, and my experience with the film comes from the clash between what I expected and what I actually got. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic attempt an ambitious adaptation that mixes elements from many Mario games, creating more of a fast-paced mosaic than a focused story. The plot is simple: rescuing Luigi from Bowser with Peach’s help. My biggest issue is the character balance. Peach dominates the narrative so heavily that it stops feeling like a story about two brothers. Luigi is reduced to a passive role, and Mario himself sometimes feels secondary. Emotionally, the film leaves me cold. Its themes of self-improvement and recognition are overly familiar and executed without impact. Visually, though, it’s excellent: colorful, energetic, and constantly entertaining. I enjoyed its style and pace, but despite being effective, it never felt meaningful or memorable to me.

Its bad. Is this how it felt in 1993 when the first adaptation released to mass negative reviews but some people were die-hards. I loved that 1993 film, perhaps this film will became that form some kids, but for me an adult, it ****.

An Adventure Full of References and Humor The movie is good and entertaining. The animation and overall elements are well done, and the story works nicely too. Bowser really steals the show-he's a unique and very entertaining character throughout the film. What I liked the most were the references to the video games, along with some funny scenes featuring Bowser, Toad, and Lumalee. It's a nostalgic movie with enjoyable scenes and solid elements.

Un film che non riesce ad incarnare Mario in nessun aspetto se non quello visivo con battute scadenti e una storia imbarazzante e generica pure per Mario... Si poteva fare molto di più ma si è deciso di fare un adattamento di pura mediocrità. 6.2/10

I love this movie vie I remember me my mom and my dad was in the theatre to watch it, good characters good storyline and good comedy but you also might be asking then why do the critics hate it? Well little friend…. BECAUSE THEY DONT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE IN THE SLIGHTEST BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY NEVER EVER PLAYED MARIO️. But I actually like the galaxy movie better but this is an amazing movie!

SPOILER ALERT!
Mario movies have been pretty bad over the years, with the 1993 one being received horribly. However, with the new film coming out yesterday, I thought it could be a fair comparison to talk about the first one as well. So, I went to see both movies the day they came out, and it was floodied with people that day. Let's start with the good. The animation, just like the Galaxy one, is impeccable, especially the fights between Mario and enemies. Every part of the movie is sprinkled with homages to the series and I'm all here for them. The characters are interesting and unique from each other, and it's cool to see Mario evolve from a basic plumber to a hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. I also appreciate the fact that Bowser didn't kidnap Peach, which is a lot more stronger and independent than you'd expect. All of the scenes were packed with funny moments, wholesome reunions and a great plit, even for a Mario movie. I liked this movie so much, that it's such a disappointment to see the newer one be worse in almost every way. The ending, the story, the characters. I honestly don't know why critics hated this movie so much, because I personally think that they couldn't have done better, which is not something I can say about the Galaxy one...

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an incredible tribute to Nintendo's legacy, managing to cram forty years of history into one vibrant adventure. It feels like a non-stop treasure hunt for fans, seamlessly blending deep cuts like Wrecking Crew and Punch-Out!! with iconic elements like the Tanooki Suit and a thrilling Rainbow Road chase. By layering Koji Kondo’s classic themes into an epic score and featuring a hilariously dark Luma, the film transcends being just a kids' movie to become the ultimate celebration of gaming. It is truly the most comprehensive and rewarding reference-filled experience for any Mario fan!

Democrats hate this movie because it doesn't advocate for violence hate white supremacy. Abusing children or women. Or committing murder and genocide. This movie was simply just fun entertainment like all Hollywood movies really should be with one or two exceptions. Hollywood was overrun by left wing terrorists for far too long at least with the Mario movie and the Sonic movies you could actually feel safe and enjoy a movie again. Which is something you can't say about movies like the marvels or Captain marvel. It shows your rewarded when you actually care about the fans and not the liberal terrorist groups that run Hollywood.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the cinematic equivalent of jingling keys in front of an audience and calling it storytelling. It’s loud, colorful, and constantly moving—but underneath all that energy, there’s barely anything holding it **** biggest issue? It confuses references for substance. The film throws in recognizable elements from the games like it’s checking boxes on a nostalgia spreadsheet, hoping you won’t notice there’s no real depth behind any of it. Locations flash by, characters pop in and out, and nothing is given enough time to actually mean anything. It’s less a story and more a guided tour.Mario himself feels oddly hollow. For a character that’s supposed to carry the entire movie, he barely evolves. Things just… happen to him. There’s no strong arc, no real struggle that shapes him in a meaningful way. He’s just there, moving from scene to scene while the movie rushes **** then there’s Bowser—arguably the most entertaining part, but even that feels like wasted potential. His moments lean heavily on humor and spectacle, but the film never fully commits to making him a truly memorable villain beyond surface-level charm.Visually, sure, it’s polished. Bright colors, smooth animation, all technically impressive. But it plays things so safe that it ends up feeling generic despite the iconic source material. There’s no distinct artistic risk, no bold identity—just a clean, corporate sheen designed to appeal to everyone without challenging **** pacing doesn’t help either. It’s rushed to the point where emotional beats don’t land because the movie is already sprinting to the next reference or set piece. It never slows down long enough to build tension, atmosphere, or genuine **** the end of the day, The Super Mario Bros. Movie feels less like a film and more like a brand showcase—efficient, marketable, and ultimately disposable. It entertains in the moment, sure, but once it’s over, there’s not much left to hold onto. It’s all flash, no foundation.

After the 1993 flop that was the live action Mario movie, we've got an animated Mario movie 30 years later that's actually amazing. The plot makes really good use of the source material despite being a chaotic mashup of a ton of different Mario games, while also just being great on its own. The animation looks absolutely stunning, and of course it wouldn't be a Mario movie review if we didn't talk about how cool the Easter eggs are. I mean like it doesn't just reference stuff from the Mario universe, it also references stuff from The Legend of Zelda and even references stuff from Nintendo franchises that nobody talks about any more. Many people complain about the character development in this movie, and while I do agree it was pretty minimal, I personally think that this issue can be forgiven due to sequel plans and the short runtime of 1 hour and 32 minutes (92 minutes). I'd also like to take the time to mention that I'm very excited for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The movie looks amazing from what we've seen and tickets are on sale now, if you're interested in going. But back to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, please watch this movie. Even though it feels like it only lasts 92 milliseconds, it's definitely worth your time.

This movie is decent, the plot is very good, introducing Mario to the world of (animated) cinema.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Cant believe they actually made a good movie for Mario bros. It is a movie based on family, especially the bond between brothers. That's why it's good we got to see more of Mario's family, even the rare grandpa Mario when he was trying to eat some pasta. Mario and Luigi are the best brothers, they care so much. Seeing Luigi in the spooky castle, which is a reference his mansion was funny. Mushroom Kingdom is well designed, Princess Peach is lovely. Princess Peach training Mario on the obstacle course was hilarious, it was just like the games. Yoshi herds made a brief appearance, which was a nice touch. Including the iconic rainbow road, and them racing on it with Mario carts was a legendary decision! Bowser is a funny and lovable villain, never a dull moment when he is shown. Overall good casting, animations, color palette, humor, and action scenes. Highly entertaining movie. Enjoyed every moment. 3D animation is the right choice for a movie based on video games. Saved to my movie collection!

The opening is fairly cringe worthy, where a sentient dog messes up their first job - but it has zero impact on the story, and honestly should have just been cut. In the opening scene, we get a glimpse of Mario's 'parkour' skills - which are quite good, but only in the opening scene. As soon as he gets his first chance to use it "for real", he suddenly needs a training montage to learn what we already saw in the opening scene. As expected, Peach is a Mary Sue as well. The voice acting for Peach is passable - for a YouTube cosplayer, but not Hollywood. Her animations are worse though. Honestly, she's probably the worst animated character of the series. The writers clearly didn't talk to each other. Early on, we get a look at the world map - which they promptly scrap in the next scene where we have a travel montage that ignores everything we saw on the map by taking the most circuitous route possible, just so they can show off all the scenery, even though they're on a rather severe time crunch. In short, skip it. It's a forgettable movie with a poorly-written plot, mediocre voice acting and only decent animation.

A vibrant and fast-paced adaptation that faithfully translates Nintendo’s iconography into a candy-colored spectacle bursting with energy and affectionate detail, even if its brisk storytelling leaves character depth and emotional weight just shy of the next level.

GREAT FANSERVICE, NEEDED BETTER WRITING: As a lifelong fan who grew up with Mario, I went into this with very high expectations. Visually, the film is stunning, and it’s packed with great scenes that perfectly capture the games' energy, like the Rainbow Road chase and the 2D-style platforming homages. However, the experience was a bit let down by a paper-thin plot. It felt like Illumination didn't take the storytelling seriously, focusing more on rapid-fire references than building a cohesive narrative with real stakes. While it's a fun nostalgia trip, I truly hope the upcoming sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026), delivers a much deeper and more developed plot to match its world-class animation.

Greetings from Lithuania.
"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (2023) is a pure fun. It does not reinvent the wheel in any department and it is the safest film possible. Still at running time 1 h 22 min (perfect for youngest ones with a span of attention equal to a tic toc video), i found myself enjoying it mildly. It does look very colorful, and seen at home on a big TV with great HDR will blow you away in terms of colors. Story - not so much. It is basically a commercial for Nintendo's Mario games and that is it. Still, humor is there, and its hugh energy and some smart writing save it and made it very watchable.
Overall, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is fun enough to see it. It is short, colorful and funny enough to recommend it.
