Leigh Whannell's new film adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1897 novel, THE INVISIBLE MAN, is a modern take on the story. The film initially presents a sense of normalcy, then gradually shifts to a focus on inexplicable events, culminating in a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who is utterly alone with his fears and no one believes him. The camera skillfully shifts perspectives, initially only hinting that the shot represents the view from the invisible man's point of view. THE INVISIBLE MAN is a gripping film throughout, but unfortunately suffers from a predictable ending and a few logical inconsistencies. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended.

The whole premise of this woman be lusted after by a successful and attractive and literal genius male is beyond far fetched. The guy invents an invisible suit, is a millionaire, and has the discipline to stay in great shape in his late 30's/40's and magically is attracted to a woman who looks 48-52, has a saggy pitbull face, bad health, no body shape, no attractive features, and most importantly no charisma or personality. She's truly unlikable. The only fans she has are unattractive chicks that are so insecure they need to see an ugly chick on the screen to feel immersed, which is really sad and says a lot about the state of society. What's next? James Bond with man boobs, rainbow suits, and a tiny round jaw?

A really strong reboot for Universal's reboots of their classic monster franchises. While not every aspect of this film is successful, director Leigh Whannell nails the important elements. The Invisible Man is highly tense and suspenseful, while the portrayal of victims of abusive relationships is believable and treated with the appropriate level of respect. Elisabeth Moss' performance is the key to holding the entire film together; she's exceptional, and should not be forgotten come awards season.

The idea was to make an updated adaptation of the literary-film classic. It wasn't entirely bad, as it is supported by suspense and a dose of paranoia, but it was quite far from the James Whale classic.

It has some amazing direction and a great lead performance but the story is okay.

This film starts so slowly. Wow the build-up to the titular character is painfully slow. It treats the audience like idiots, we know there is an invisible man as it's in the title, we don't need an hour of the film trying to convince us there isn't one and question the protagonists sanity like there actually isn't an invisible man. There is one! Great acting, cinematography and sound design. Dull characters, uninspiring direction and lack of ‘fun’ entertainment. There are some genuinely creepy invisible moments to be thrilled by. The portrayal of domestic abuse is actually harrowing but this might have been better put into a different film, maybe a more drama focussed one rather than a horror one. I suspect the director actually wanted to make a drama but was forced to make a horror film. I honestly didn't hate this but also cannot recommend it. There are much better and less forgettable films to watch that are similar, It Follows (2014) for example! Even Hollow Man (2000).

I did not expect anything from this movie. But when i saw it, i was actually disappointed. Seems actors played their role very poorly. The only positive thing i can say about this movie is that i liked the scene with the suit was cool.

Well written, brilliantly acted, this is a clever and brilliant re-make. The sense of fear Moss delivers when all you know is something is present but unseen are superbly crafted and makes this one of the best thrillers of 2020.

This movie is a really surprise in the genre. A great performance of Elizabeth Moss and a stress environment that will have you with your heart in your throat all the time.

It's pretty good, but it could have been much better and scarier if it was more ambiguous.

A good movie that has some very, very cool things to show you that could have been an even better movie if it took some time to show you them. Among the effects (which are great) is a story worth telling, but the balance between the effects and the story is just slighly off.

Overall, not bad. It got a bit silly there for a little bit and the ending through me off a little bit. Otherwise, a decent picture.

Perfect movie for Generation Idiot. Everything about it is mediocre and not properly thought through. I didn't feel the chills or the thrills but that's the kind of rubbish they make nowadays.

In many moments, the suspense, tension and the sense of threat generated by the frames and some small events of an admirable subtlety and even elegance are really intolerable. On the other hand, its dosed and sudden scenes of violence and special effects are wonderfully resolved. As in any good genre film, its core is the drama that Cecilia suffers based on the persecutory trauma she suffers like every abused woman, enhanced in this case by signs that do not seem to be from the real world, making the feeling of threat more omnipresent and desperate. It could be said that The Invisible Man refers in some respects to films like Sleeping with the enemy and Gaslight. There is no trivialization of the issue of abuse: the film never denies the past of Cecilia and her abusive husband. I ended up watching this twice two night in a row! Once alone, and once with family. I enjoyed it both time. This is a perfect thriller/suspense flick, and while yes, there are glaring plot holes, the experience overall is rewarding. It feels like it has two parts: the first is more horror, suspense - building tension, paranoia, and the other more action driven, mystery solving with a bit of revenge. The camera work is phenomenal here, the editing (including sound design) really grabs you. I discovered a few things that I missed the first time around. The lingering wide shots make you search and look and anticipate but the movie never reverts to cheap jump scars and quick cuts. I was a fan of the original with Kevin Bacon, but this is a hole different ball game and I'm all for it.

We, men, CAN'T own the story of a woman simply because we don't have experiences in the body, the psychology and biology of them, much less we can create a representation, and that's the mistake of this movie. There is a strong sense of masculinity in the main conflict, the main character's context, her decisions, her definition of the solution, and the final situation. That is an extensive analysis that I won't make right now. But the idea is to dismiss intentions similar to this one since, unconsciously, it becomes a man industry exploiting women's image and story. On the cinematographic side, the lack of special effects, and its technique is enough simple and elegant to achieve visual quality and shines the realistic sense of the image. The music, by Benjamin Wallfish, decors that elegance. The photography is on point, just as the scenery. In acting, Elizabeth Moss is the only one that has a working field, but her character ruins the sense of her reactions. There is simply a dissonance between the actress and her situation, and I blame it on the script. Even though the humble and good intention, there is a lot of ignorance and masculine cynism that ruins a very important representation message and throws to the garbage any narrative achievement with an offensively unconscious and stupid ending. Whannell has an interesting inclination for horror and sci-fi that has been exploring decently until now, but his intention of creating social consciousness needs to be directed to topics on which he can give an opinion.

A mixing of feelings, many theories created. Elisabeth's performance is perfect, the way she instigates us to think that in moments she is losing her insanity and doubting if that is real. Very good!

One of the worthless and childish movies i be ever seen, why someone would spend so much energy just to mess with an ex (just to begin with), its not even terrifying but childish...

One of the worst films I've seen. Started off well but got worse from there and the fact the guy had to wear some suit or something to be invisible was laughably bad. The guy who was supposed to be invisible or so Elisabeth Moss thought wasn't. Very silly film that gets worse and worse as it drags on. Not scary, not interesting, silly and not well thought out and bad acting. Watch Hollow Man with Kevin Bacon instead because that's a great film but avoid The Invisible Man. Hollow Man was well directed and made and some parts was pretty creepy and it was interesting and Kevin Bacon was awesome even as a villain but The Invisible Man is a joke.

Movie's starting one hour was unnecessarily stretched and boring. It is only in last 45 minutes when movie becomes some interesting. This is a horror movie just difference is that they are trying to scare you by moving camera here and there. Well, the idea was nice but execution needed to be better. The pace of the movie was also a problem, first of all this movie didn't need to be 2hour movie. 1hr30 min (max) was enough for this type of story. I was really excited for this after seeing all the reviews but after watching it, I don't think it deserved so much rating. Overall, would say that you can give it a try but don't expect too much..

I don't usually watch films from this genre. I generally stick to SF action and superhero movies, but I heard good things about The Invisible Man. This movie is tense and intense. It's a rollercoaster of emotions. I actually felt anxious at times. Seriously, it's a powerful film.

An excellent adaption of the Universal classic: wholly original, modernized, and thrilling, building off writer/director Leigh Whannell's fantastic science fiction debut Upgrade.

The 2020 film The Invisible Man is not a remake of the classic 1930’s Universal Monster movie starring Claude Rains and directed by James Whale, or even a new adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel. In fact, aside from sharing a title and the basic concept of a sinister man that is invisible, this film has nearly nothing in common with the H.G. Wells novel. This frees up writer-director Leigh Whannell to create a wholly fresh approach to the story of a mad scientist that makes himself invisible. Unlike the Wells story or the film Hollow Man, this story focuses not on the scientist but on his victim. Elizabeth Moss stars as Cecilia, whose partner, Adrian, is a controlling and abusive tech genius. In a suspenseful opening scene, she makes her escape from his luxurious compound-like West Coast mansion. She is hiding out with a friend (Aldis Hodge) and suffering through PTSD when she receives news that Adrian has killed himself. Cecilia finally begins to feel safe and free when unusual and suspicious occurrences begin. Adrian’s research was in optics, so it does not take her long to realize that he has somehow made himself invisible to continue to control and torment her. The Invisible Man was produced and released by Blumhouse, the dominant production company in modern horror, which likes to keep budgets low (to keep profits high). The visual effects involving the invisible man are sparse but effective: floating objects, footprints appearing out of nothing, a human shape appearing when covered in paint or water. There are big scare scenes but also plenty of lowkey creepy moments to make your skin crawl. Disembodied breath on a cold night appearing behind Cecilia is a quiet but frightening moment. Maybe the simplest and scariest effect is the camera panning over to an empty corner or staying put after everyone has left a room. As a director, Whannell is smart enough to know that the best way to scare us is not with special effects or blood and gore but to put us right in Cecilia's shoes. We are as certain of the invisible man’s existence as she is and as uncertain of where he is or what he’ll do next as she is. His attacks on her are not only physical. When she is at a job interview and her portfolio is empty, we know what happened, but the interviewer just thinks that she is forgetful and unqualified. Adrian isolates her from her family and friends just as he did before, sabotaging the relationships that are holding her up, just as real life abusers physically and emotionally isolate their victims. Elizabeth Moss gives an outstanding performance that drives the movie. Through her performance and the stylistic choices of Wharnell we really feel Cecilia’s paranoia. That is the major reason why this movie is so successfully frightening and suspenseful. She begins to come undone because of the stress and anxiety of her situation, but she knows she is not losing her mind. Scene after scene of her of not being believed has a deep significance beyond the plot. Any number of women could unfortunately relate to being not believed and left vulnerable by those supposed to offer protection. This movie easily avoids the male gaze and any lascivious scenes you might expect in a modern era movie about an invisible man: there are no scenes of Cecilia in the shower or getting undressed. From beginning to end this is an excellently crafted, scary film. This isn’t art house horror or elevated horror. This is just great horror. I wish more horror films were like this.

An unnerving, slow-burn horror film/badass, Termintor style sci-fi horror with a great performance by Elisabeth Moss. It's full great sequences full of tension and paranoia. It suffers a bit towards the end. When it seems like it's about to end it pulls a twist and keeps going for another ten minutes that feel unnecessary, but it didn't take away that much from my enjoymet of the film.

Acho interessante como esse filme consegue misturar um monstro clássico na ficção com os monstros da vida real. O medo que a personagem sente é o mesmo que nós sentimos e por mais que no final ele se puxe muito pro lado da ação, não deixa de ser interessante e relevante.

Slow paced and a bit heavy on the melodrama but it has some decent character development, a couple of good suspenseful scenes and story twists, and a satisfying ending. Elizabeth Moss is great and carries the movie effortlessly.

Absolutely stunning work with the genre and plot. And the idea of using something different like this? Is Awesome!

An absolutely mediocre film, it was made solely as a means of discriminating against white men, in particular rich white men. What does a multimillionaire and a genius of science care about an absolutely nondescript gray mouse? The logic "he began to persecute me because I refused him" is normal for a virgin schoolboy, but not for a successful man. In addition to the stupidity of this plot move, it is also banal. As well as the rest of this film. The heroine's friend is black. Besides mediocrity, the plot of the film is very boring, predictable and full of plot holes. How could the heroine terrorize her walled-up husband? (logic goes to hell) Well, the cherry on the cake is the lack of talent of Elisabeth Moss.

The start is bad, with the tell not show mentality. The car window scene made the movie feel less realistic, and the whole thing is set up badly. The main character looks lost, like a 5 year old without her mom. This makes her hard to relate to, and breaks the bond between viewer and character. She does many dumb things throughout the movie, lessening the bond even further. The ending is really bad as well, with the villain being irrational as hell. Watch this movie as background noise, its not worth more than that.

This movie is like a slice of emmental cheese. It's pretty good when it's there but those darn holes. Starts strong but the quality of the plot melts quickly. Elisabeth Moss plays the very same character as in Handmaid's Tale, but at least that series makes sense. If you are sensitive things that doesn't make any sense, this movie will make you cry for mercy. It's a shame because it had its moments. Maybe one should cut out the silly things and release a "logic's cut".

The Invisible Man is a brilliant movie. It's fun, it's creepy, it's really good. The story is not amazing, but it's not bad. Definately above average. Everything else is really good.

Um bom filme de suspense. A obra me deixou curioso na maior parte do tempo. Por não saber nada sobre o filme, eu não sabia se aquilo se tratava sobre um drama psicológico, uma ficção cientifica ou terror. Sendo assim, as surpresas tiveram um impacto significativo em mim. Não foi um suspense num ponto de roer as unhas, mas me deixou em alerta significativamente. O roteiro é bem amarradinho, nos surpreendendo em diversos momentos, e o fato de nunca estarmos a vontade por motivos óbvios aumentam a tensão. Os personagens são ok. Gostei bastante da família que abriga a protagonista, mas não me restou muito por parte da mesma. É como se ela não tivesse reações humanas as vezes. Quanto ao seu EX, gostaria que trabalhassem um pouco ele também. A obra não escolheu trabalhar com uma abordagem mais cética, e foi mais direta no que tava acontecendo. Não acho que tenha sido a melhor decisão no gênero, pois apresenta o perigo de maneira solida - mesmo ele sendo invisível.

Um filme simplesmente genial e muito bom, eu sempre ficava assistindo com medo do que iria acontecer a personagem principal, esse filme fez eu encorporar ela de uma forma absurda.
