I really liked the animatronics and the sets, but the acting was pretty awful. The story was decent enough, but was let down by the pacing. Ultimately I didn't care enough about the characters, despite really liking the authors books. I'd watch it again, but not for a while.

This is the epitome of “very forgettable”. It is exactly what I’ve grown to expect from a film starring any of the Stranger Things alumni, basically a generic cash-in on their name alone. The Electric State is basically The Last of Us but with robots and without Joel (Chris Pratt’s character is pointless so doesn’t count). It’s not all bad though. The visual effects are really impressive and there are some good moments of character development which are really engaging but sadly this is only a small focus of the film. The rest of the focus is flat jokes, dreary action, shallow story and forgettable characters. The finale forces sentimentality onto you awkwardly. It’s a total waste of budget.

I think it was pretty good for a sci-fi action flick...I was expecting this to be an Oscar worthy type movie and I dont think it was meant to be that at all. It supposed to be a chill on the couch enjoy this type of movie.

The Electric State is an attempt to make a dystopia and partially post-polypsis for children of primary school age. And the target audience of the project is read immediately. Everything here is either cardboard or maximally hypertrophied. Watching The Electric State without a child is almost torture. The Electric State is the most stupid film according to the script. I don't know the original. But the film clearly simplified the whole story and the setting of the world to the maximum. The cast is not bad, but everyone plays for nothing. And then you see the project budget of 320 million and you don't understand anything else. I can't recommend this movie to anyone, except for children who don't understand the more adult presentation yet.

Not great but not bad either. Excellent soundtrack with piano covers of great songs. Not sure why everyone is hating. Just a decent action movie with a great cast.

A very good entertainment, worthy of the adventure films of the ’80s like E.T. or The Goonies! And suitable for the whole family. The special effects are amazing, you don’t see the time pass, and it fills you with wonder — that’s all you could ask **** for those who spat their hatred because the film cost 320 million, wake up, it’s 2025 — that’s what a movie with that much CGI costs. When Fast and Furious X spent 340 million on lousy special effects, nobody cried scandal. And if it’s because the film is released on a streaming platform instead of theaters, again, get out of the fairytale world. Cinema is a thing of the past, the future is streaming, just like digital slowly kills physical formats. Stop putting on blinders and accept that the world is changing.Finally, for those who said it’s all been seen before and there are no surprises: not every movie needs to surprise you. The purpose of a film is to escape reality and entertain, not to shock. A simple film telling a nice story suitable for the whole family doesn’t need a twist ending. It can have a “conventional” story without being bad.

When i sat down to watch The Electric State, i had already been influenced by the wave of negativity surrounding it, for the first 30 minutes, i was skeptical, expecting something truly awful based on all the harsh reactions online, but as the film unfolded, i started to see something very different, a heartfelt, simple story with surprisingly likable characters, both human and the robots. The movie isn't trying to be overly complex or groundbreaking, it tells a clear, emotional story about a girl on a journey to find her brother, with plenty of charm along the way, despite the usual criticism surrounding Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, professionally i see both of them doing a completely fine job in the movie, they fits well within the narrative, and Stanley Tucci brings his usual excellence as a villain, and once again proves how easily he can elevate any role he's given. What really caught me off guard was how much i cared about the robots, they weren't just background elements, they had personality, emotion, and purpose. The Russo brothers clearly put effort into The Electric State, it's not a perfect film, but it's one with heart, fun action, and solid pacing, i never felt bored, and i found myself genuinely wanting to understand what was going on, that alone tells me the film worked. And i know The Russo is always passionate about making these films, that's why the action sequence is fun, the characters are working, the writing might not be masterful but still followable especially for a 2 hours movie. After The Gray Man and their work in the MCU, it's obvious the Russos know how to craft engaging stories, i don't believe this film deserves the hate it's getting, it's far from a disaster, in fact, i had a really good time with it, The Electric State is far from the trainwreck some make it out to be, it's an enjoyable, well-made film that does what it sets out to do, entertain and connect.

The Electric State is passable family entertainment that is also conspicuously inert. Watching it is like watching someone describe an awesome film they watched in the most boring way possible. The film is vaporous despite talented people both in front of and behind the camera. It may hold the title as the most a film adaptation has ever departed from its source material in cinematic history. Then there’s the uncanny way the film serves as meta commentary on itself and the filmmakers. Fifteen, maybe twenty minutes in, and I found myself grappling with existential regret, questioning the wisdom of spending my limited time on something so utterly devoid of engagement or depth. From the opening frames, empathy was conspicuously absent, replaced by a blunt and patronizing storytelling approach that left no space for interpretation or intrigue. The film spoon-fed its every beat, reducing potentially compelling moments into bland, pre-digested mush—cornflakes already chewed, milk already soured, leaving nothing but a foul, uninspired taste. To be fair, the film had one redeeming feature: the Matryoshka doll-inspired robot. A clever nod, a machine hidden within another, within yet another—a subtle, evocative homage to the alien concealed inside the android from Men in Black. This singular detail was genuinely inventive, a fleeting spark of originality. But even this standout moment inevitably fell prey to predictability, its initial charm dimmed by the film's broader failures. True, the visuals shimmer impressively, conjuring a mechanized dreamscape rich with metallic allure and synthetic grandeur. Yet even these tantalizing glimpses couldn’t compensate for the film’s profound absence of soul, depth, or originality. Unrelentingly stupid. It's obviously a copy/paste of every Marvel movie and it MUST have been written by AI. No human could have reviewed that and said OK. It's also obvious from interviews that the Russos didn't really want to adapt the book or its bleak themes. Not when there are robots to punch and 1-liners to deliver.

Idk I guess it was too emotional for some people? I loved it, haven’t seen world building like that since late eighties early nineties. I must just be weird but the movies where things are happening at warp speed and amazing things are introduced and thrown away just as quickly causes me so much disconnect I generally fall asleep (i.e.modern blockbusters). I really liked the pacing and artistry. Reminded me of peak Stephen Spielberg. Also seemed beautifully relevant with the current state of class wars. Not really sure why I’m writing this, it’s my first review. I guess I just really liked this flick for some reason and I’m confused by all the hate. I.e. the Brutalist is a wonderful movie, but it’s certainly hard to watch, this movie also gave me a sense of wonder and is served with a bit of sugar like Penny the mail robot. Thank you!!! Missing a lot of...well, just missing a lot. Chris Pratt does Chris Pratt stuff, and that's generally a good time, and it looks pretty cool. But the rest of the movie is flat. Pratt's and Anthony Mackie's back-and-forth is charming, but not charming enough to carry the movie. Did make me want to read the source material, though.

I was bored by the whole thing. Stayed until the end despite the urge to cut my losses and switch over to something else. Had no idea that they spent over $300 million on this. That’s just mad.

On paper it seemed it might be interesting but while watching it just felt so boring throughout - yes parts of it was ok, but overall it lacked something- and such movie with such budget should feel opposite, it should feel like you do not want to miss any parts at all.

A truly forgettable movie. The characters are about as undercooked as the world they inhabit. Brown's performance is subpar, but when the character is written to be so boring, it didn't give her much to work with. Pratt plays a fast-talking protagonist again, but doesn't fit the movie's overall tone. Some of the visuals are very well done, but overall, that doesn't come close to saving this two-hour-long drag.

I don't understand the bad reviews of this movie, the critics speak very badly, they have hatred and they put it as the worst you can see of this genre. But I liked it, it is very entertaining and has good effects that more ask for?? I don't understand what people are looking for to see a movie but hey. I give it a hundred scores, but it would really be eighty or eighty-five.

Why all the hate?? This movie is so anti-corporate oligarchs. It probably scared the sh__t out of them. They cranked up all the human and non-human social media bots to try to take this movie down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Oligarchs can’t handle the truth.

This is excellent escapism... An entertaining movie with lots of great visual gags. Worth watching just to see all the different robots they included. It's not Shakespeare, but that's not why I watch Netflix. The actors are fun and the story progresses in a satisfactory manner. The movie delivered on all it was supposed to.Most importantly, I had fun. That's got to start counting for something again.

It seems to me a movie far below what Netflix usually produces. It has a story that could have been explored further. I don't see the characters as bad either, the story is simply very poorly executed but it doesn't seem that bad to me.

Employing a unique method of storytelling, his books allow the reader to experience fantastic country scenes, each related to an evolving plotline. His coming to prominence is a well-deserved triumph, although I sincerely doubt “The Electric State” is what he intended, in terms of a worldwide breakthrough for his cherished artwork.Politics is alive and well in the film industry. Now, more than ever, productions are being weaponized with the intention of serving up an ideology to the masses. In the 1930’s when the Germanic elements of Disney’s Snow White were toned down for the American household, that was politics. In the 1980’s when James Bond could no longer tease and bed women, that was politics. The brutal truth is that Hollywood has a long track record of not caring for artists or their vision. Despite presenting some of the moral reflections of its source material (namely, a critique of our modern-day inability to be present, due to our obsession with the digital world), this film is mostly a Woke production. Under this partisan umbrella, the film takes on a different agenda: themes of prejudice and forced labor are included; adults, especially parents, are painted in an unreasonable light; all men are painted as evil, spineless or inept, and a border wall is included. Please understand: these narratives WOULD be fine in normal storytelling. Here, however, they are weaponized against the American public, used for social standing amongst the elites, and applied for the prejudiced funding of Black Rock initiatives (funding that producers might be easily pocketing!). Sadly, this ongoing commentary is also imparted with a heavy dose of condescension. This lecturing is not only off putting to the viewer, but also heavily obscures any morale Stålenhag might have imparted in the first **** more and more partisan productions fail in spectacular manner and despite the industry beginning to tone down its rhetorc, regardless of how many critics are bought and paid for, Hollywood’s efforts of deception fail to prevent the masses from avoiding cinemas. Film studios can spend as many millions as they want; if the message they are sending isn’t wholesome, moral or considerate, then it isn’t art. In this case, its politics. The entire story, and mankind as a whole, suffers from it.

This movie is fantastic, go and have a look yourself! It's a family adventure that you don't want to miss out on, since good movies are so rare these days.

Not sure why the bad reviews. It has a blockbuster lineup and more. It is a touching story about a brother and sister losing everything. There's even humor in it but then again, how could it not be with all the stars in the movie. Yes sometimes it's all over the place and sometimes not make sense, but overall it's a really good.

Feels like it was directed and finished in a rush, in an attempt to make a film that was perhaps shorter than it really should have been. Aside from the impressive visual effects, consistent production design and good soundtrack, the film directed by the Russo brothers did not do justice to the film's star cast, and wasted a huge potential for the adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name. Over use of same O actors. Watch 1/4 of the movie then rest went blank last thing I know the movie was over. NETFLIX subscription not worth it the priced. The whole story didn't went hard they trying to be. Suggestions not use well known actors pretty sure this actor is netflix cashcow.

As a 90s kid, fan of jurassic park, stranger things and robots with the fallout universe vibe, loved every bit of it.

The book is a criticism of rampant consumerist economy. This movie is the pinnacle of it, completely missing the point and in fact outright representing everything book criticized - corporatist, consumerist, extremely dumbed down, superficial, poorly written(with plot holes size of Titanic) flashy piece of fast-food type "modern entertainment", meant for people with intelligence of a tree stump and attention span of gold fish. I did not see even an attempt at conveying tone of the book. It all decayed to the level of "ohh look funny robots". If you never read a book, then it is fairly generic dystopian movie, that is maybe 6. If you did, then just reread the book instead, substantially superior experience. Book is merely a setting for this movie, background, with entire(often nonsensical) plot of the motion picture being almost completely written from scratch, by dollar-store writers, that reflects in new plot quality.

What a terrible, uninspired bore of a movie. A stab in the heart of the creative roots it came from. The source material is 10 out of 10, but this is nothing like it and it shows in every second, that feels like a minute. I had to break up my watching of this over 3-4 sessions because it's THAT bad. Every single actor in this should be ashamed and The Russo Brothers should be forever barred from AAA Studios.

Their post-Ultimatum projects, Cherry and Hidden Agent, were met with a lukewarm reception, revealing the duo's fragility when removed from a previously established cinematic universe. The Electric State, their latest work, appears as their last chance to demonstrate that they still have the ability to tell good stories in isolation. However, the film not only reaffirms their narrative limitations, but also exposes an excessive reliance on easy formulas: nostalgia, blatant references to other works and a superficial appeal to the public.Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag, The Electric State was supposed to be an immersive work of science fiction, capable of exploring the relationship between humans, artificial intelligence and technology in an apocalyptic world. However, the directors took the easy way out, filling the film with nostalgia and references instead of exploring its story in depth. The result is a movie that occasionally entertains, but is superficial and forgettable. Netflix has invested in an empty overproduction that is unlikely to make a mark on the science fiction genre.

Overall I thought the movie and robots were entertaining. Admittedly, however, I've never read the source material. I also must admit that the plot with her brother felt a bit weak and the ending was a bit weak too. 7 is a bit generous, but I think a 5 or 6 isn't quite right. It's not exactly something that will surprise you, but it's definitely watchable. I liked it.

I was very excited to see this movie, and very disappointed after watching it. It was so dull, nothing overly exciting happens, I did not care about a single character. The only positive is that I liked the art/graphics of the film, but nothing else. I can't say I'm glad I spend 2 hours watching this.

Soulless. It was either written by AI or by a roomful of execs. The actors do their best, but with zero story, we're left with a collection of nice FX scenes interspersed with curated scenes from ET, AI, T2 and countless other 80s and 90s action films. It's a colossal mess and a huge disappointment. If it was on at the cinema, I would have asked for a refund. As it's on Netflix, they have one extra viewer so will see it as a success. Shamefully bad.

It has potential but it was very boring. The idea of humans vs robots is very repeated and also the idea of a human make a good relationship with a robot is another cliché.
