A delightful, witty picture that's short and sweet and presents one of the most accurate depictions of the behavior of teenage boys you're ever going to see on screen. [22 Mar 1991, p.E1]

This lacks the darkness and subtlety that makes the first film so good, and so adult, but its simplified plot and gags will appeal to the under tens.

Almost as good as the first movie but no Casey and we have some random kid who is low-key annoying

An inferior, though quite respectable, follow-up. [22 Mar 1991, p.73]

This slap-- sequel is primarily for the cognoscenti -- that is, for other teen-age mutant ninja turtles, or very small children. The rest of us it happily ignores.

Retains the essential elements that first turned the world Turtle - the affectionate squabbling between the four, the pantomime villains, the cracking one-liners - and the bigger budget is a blessing.

In most ways, a sequel-as-usual: a little warmer, with slightly less zip and flurry.

Today's kids are learning from the Turtles that the world is a sinkhole of radioactive waste, that it's more reassuring to huddle together in sewers than take your chances competing at street level, and that individuality is dangerous. Cowabunga.

This sequel very much rivals the original. It's just a ton of fun to watch. They stuck to the formula that worked so well in the first film and improved enough of it to stop it from being repetitive or stale.

Flarrow Films.

its not as good as the original Movie but its focuses more on Humor and is definitely more Lighthearted goofy then the Original which isn't necessarily a bad thing because I think this is still a fun movie to watch but my main problem with this movie is that instead of Casey, we have a random kid who knows Martial Arts

The sequel is more lighthearted, goofy (mostly the good kind) and uses more humor. While it is still entertaining it is weaker while also doing some things better. It continues the story from the first movie. Some time has passed and the Turtles must adapt to a new situation and old enemies want revenge while new ones will appear. Like the title said it is centered around the Ooze. A mutagen that created the Turtles and can be a potent weapon in the wrong hands. I wont spoil more details. The Ooze is a fitting connection to my first problem. Why were Rocksteady and Bebop not used or introduced here. When we watched the movie most of us ignored the fact that the new characters were not them. I remember thinking as kid how different they look from the the TV series. A bit later I learned that they created new characters named Tokka and Rahzar. Nothing wrong in general with them but they never have the impact Bebop and Rocksteady would had. While I am at it my other mayor complaint is the climax. When you think the final battle gets really awesome because a tread as dangerous as nothing seen before emerges it ended. It is not the underwhelming kind it is like fading black and looks like they run out of money or time to do it. Think about Darth Vader and Luke start fighting each other and then Vader got a heart-attack and the battle is over. So much wasted potential. The movie is really good otherwise. They improved the suits for the Turtles a lot, the humor is great (some say a bit too juvenile but it is for fans) and the acting is fitting for this movie. They replaced April O’Neil with a new actress and Paige Turco does a good job here. The villains are intimidating and the fights are good but more humorous or slapstick infected. It is more lighthearted than the prequel. Overall it is funny and worth watching but will be forgotten relatively fast.

TMNT 2 is a silly sequel that focuses more on being more accessible for kids, as a child I liked it more than the first, despite the recasting of April O'Neal. Overall it works because it doesn't take itself too seriously.
