Beginning of an interesting, phenomenal adventure story about good vs evil. I watched this classic in modern days, because I love Retro Geek movies.

The original Star Wars is a triumph of visual storytelling, special effects, and archetypal characterization. A cultural touchstone for the past 50 years, it remains one of the most influential films off all-time. Like all films which spawn franchises, A New Hope deserves much praise for being the "first", the original. This was the leap of faith that Lucas took against all odds. In a vacuum, the film is a self-contained story that draws on classic elements of fantasy. A unlikely, humble hero who runs into destiny. A princess in distress. A scoundrel who reluctantly joins the cause. A mysterious wizard who guides the hero on his journey. And a villain that seems all-powerful. We see the plot progress exactly how we expect, yet we are on the edge of our seat almost the entire time. Is the film perfect? Not entirely. There are aspects that have not aged as gracefully as others. The plot slows down a fair bit in the middle act. The lightsaber fight is underwhelming. The dialogue isn't always amazing. But these are small issues that barely detract from a near-masterpiece.

Watched my favorite Movie of All time Star Wars: A New Hope which in My opinion is The Greatest Movie of All time. The Cast Was Stellar With Mark Hamill(Wizards) as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford(American Graffiti) as Han Solo ,The Lovely Carrie Fisher(Shampoo) as Leia Organa, Newcomer Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca,Anthony Daniels (Baski's Lord Of The Rings) as C-3PO, Kenny Baker(Time Bandits) as R2-D2 ,Phil Brown(The Martian Chronicles) as Owen Lars, Shelagh Fraser(A Family At War) as Beru Lars, Alex McCrindle(The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes) as General Dodonna,Garrick Hagon(Some Kind Of Hero) as Biggs Darkligher, Denis Lawson as Wedge Antilles , David Prowse(Doctor Who) & James Earl Jones(The Lion King) as Darth Vader ,Peter Cushing(The Curse Of Frankenstein) as Gran Moff Wilhuf Tarkin and Sir Alec Guinness(The Bridge Over The River Kwai, Lawrence Of Arabia) as Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi. George Lucas’s 1977 masterpiece remains my personal, all-time favorite film and the definitive pinnacle of the saga. It is anchored by one of the greatest visual introductions in film history: the Star Destroyer chasing down the Rebel blockade runner. From that first frame, it is a brilliant piece of world-building that effortlessly balances high-octane adventure with deeply compelling **** film's structural brilliance lies in its character dynamics. Princess Leia **** the "damsel" trope, setting a fierce blueprint for future icons like Ripley, Sarah Connor, and Jyn Erso by taking charge of her own rescue. Han and Chewie bring a wonderful grease-stained, underworld grit to the narrative, while Alec Guinness’s majestic wizard archetype elevates the mythic stakes. Equally brilliant is the villainous hierarchy: Tarkin rules through cold, non-action bureaucratic tyranny—harkening back to Charles Laughton's Captain Bligh and classic British cinematic villains like Vandamm from North by Northwest—while Vader operates as his terrifying physical **** today’s storytelling standards, the slow-burn pacing of the desert opening can feel a bit sluggish, and the black-and-white morality lacks modern grey complexity. However, any minor narrative drag is entirely erased by the climax. The Death Star assault and trench run remain the absolute pinnacle of cinematic battles—a tense, claustrophobic, and perfectly paced masterclass in action filmmaking that cements this as the greatest movie ever made in my book .Fantastic Cinematography By Gilbert Taylor(MacBeth), Production Design By John Barry(Superman:The Movie) ,Amazing Writing/Direction George Lucas(THX-1138), Fantastic Costume design from John Mollo(Outland) and Amazing Score from John Williams(Jaws) The Definitive Star Wars Masterpiece and My All-Time Favorite Film 8/10

I have a better reception to it upon my second watch, when I initially had a much worse view of it. The movie follows a much more traditional adventure type of plot. A naïve hero explores the world and achieves his goals type of plot. I at first found the intro to be bloated and lacking in focus, but realized it doesn't overstay it's welcome and is a nice time spent world building upon my second viewing. World building in general was the movie biggest strength, you can easily tell the intention was always to make a large franchise. I liked that the movie didn't just show alien and robotic lifeforms just for the sake of novelty. It expanded upon relationships, debts, how the civilians interact with the empire, and how they carry on disobeying it. Sadly, I also think the movie showing off it's big budget was one of its biggest flaws. It constantly uses CGI and sc-fi backdrops to carry all of it's scenes, whereas the cinematography and set design itself is drab and uninteresting (with the exception of the garbage lockup scene). Though do note I watched the 90s remaster, which I heard gets rid of many natural props for jarring and terrible looking CGI like the prequels. But anytime the movie resorted to space battle CGI as opossed to sets, my intrest wained massively. Especially in the final act where it takes over the remainder of the film, completely bottlenecking the story and imagery. In terms of story, I have to give credit to the characters. They have a clear-cut dynamic and all serve their purposes driving the plot. Luke wishes for more to life and learns, but still kept as the aspirational paragon. The real growth is given to Han Solo. He does take a lot of focus away from Luke due to having a true character arc, but I get the didn't want to make Luke unlikeable. Princess Leia was also a great mediator, as she shared aspects from the two of them, but lacked their combat prowess so she must lead them. However, the plot I thought was very contrived at certain points. While it's a simple hero's journey mostly, there was a lot of convinces to move things forward. The biggest by far was "the force". The movie tries to make it seem very cool initially, but it quickly becomes a Deus Ex Machina that lets Obi Wan Kenobi just bend the enemies to his whims with no limitations or drawbacks. A big thing about the film in regards to plot is how it drops certain set-ups (like Luke's use of the lightsaber). It does a great job at emotional character arcs, but why even bring in these elements to the plot in the first place? Overall, I see why it became popular as it is quite the "everymovie". It takes and uses all the fundamental of making a film quite nice for a basic but wholesome movie.

A Paradoxical Favorite140605 (3.0)It is simply too tedious to sit through with any real patience, and yet, paradoxically, it is the one I have watched the most alongside the first installment. There is a strange, lingering quality to its boredom that somehow keeps me coming back, making it a staple of my viewing history despite the slow pace. It stands as a testament to those peculiar films that manage to become a frequent habit even when they lack the immediate excitement of a typical blockbuster, eventually carving out their own unique space in one's memory through sheer repetition.

This is where it started, an outstanding film with incredibly captivating world building, an unforgettable soundtrack, and so many iconic moments. The most impressive part of this film is the fact that it is all handcrafted and practical effects, for 1977, it was revolutionary. While the behind the scenes are quite fascinating, the overall emotional stakes of the film were inconsistent paired with mediocre dialogue at times, which holds this movie back from being a higher rating. Overall, an incredible film, with a solid plotline, incredible music, and captivating world building.

Reviewing Movies I watch in 2026:
I honestly I love this film.. I do, but love makes you ever more critical. My primary problem with it, is the movie happening in around a three day weekend. No veils from a timeskip so the viewer feels like ah they're close because of the time they've been together. Maybe I just watch too many drawn out shows. Did I just watch like 6 x-wings and 4 y-wings blow up the Death Star... Empire really be tweaking. If I had a nickel for every star destroyer I saw I would have two, which is weird.

Compared to many other films or sagas, it contains almost nothing exceptional; the story is flat and the characters superficial. The only thing I feel like giving it credit for is the quality of the effects for the era it was released in, but almost 50 years later, we find ourselves with works from the '90s that have better visuals but, above all, a deep and entertaining story.

Film that starts the original trilogy. The plot is quite classic but well done, not self-contained but lays the foundations for the next chapters. Well done for how it presents the Star Wars universe for the first time, but the plot is quite flat

I managed to get ahold of an HD rip from the original Laserdisc set over the weekend, and immediately commenced with my first non-Special Edition viewing in about fifteen years. In a roundabout way, George Lucas's tweaks and reworkings in later versions of this film actually make the original practical effects that much more impressive. Of course, in the twenty-first century, anyone with a large enough processor can film their own outer-space dogfight, but for ILM to have produced something during the mid '70s that still seems competitive today is a truly gargantuan achievement. Even with the veneer of post-production and extra CGI stripped away, it's a miraculously good looking picture, intricately detailed and fully functional; a thorough realization of Lucas's vivid imagination. In many instances, the old school special effects that were replaced in later revisions and the subsequent prequels make the film more lifelike and tangible. Take Vader and company's infamous debut appearance, for instance: marching through soot and smoke after blasting a hole in Leia's overtaken cruiser, the boarding party seems more imposing and threatening with a thick haze still obscuring much of the screen. That would've been digitally omitted or altered in a modern LucasFilm release, to ill effect. Naturally, though, there's more to this film than just effects work. While its plot is fairly straightforward and restrained, especially compared to the increasingly tangled, coincidence-laden plots of the follow-ups, there's a certain infectious, youthful energy at play here. Despite its laughably scripted dialogue and rough, amateurish editing, a giddy sense of adventure and delight makes the whole thing somehow, perhaps miraculously, come together and work as a brilliant, cohesive, thoroughly befuddling ball of wax. As further sequels were anything but a given at its release, it's also the most self-inclusive film of the Star Wars canon, with a clear progression for each cast member and a sound, rewarding genesis, apex and conclusion. This has no right to still be so good, but it is, and I'll be watching it with my kids for decades to come.

A New Hope, originally known as Star Wars, started off the franchise and popularized the space opera genre, gaining every sci-fi fans' respect. The film is still worth watching today, and the story and action is built on much more in the later entries in the original trilogy and parts of the prequel trilogy.

When the giant cruiser appeared on the screen you could hear the people in the theater holding their breath! The film was breathtaking in its effects, offered a great adventure, excellent characters and an amazing world. The film is so good that it defends itself even today. I watch at least once a year and recommend it to everyone!

This is one of the most wonderful 70s film I've ever watched the light tone the amazing special effects. I watched one of the scans from the original 77 **** acting was so cute old characters would just the most nice balls of stuff and I mean it because for me after watched so many dark and cruso movies this is just the most fun and cute thing I've seen in a long **** the story is fun, it's Earnest it is just about what you can see. It's just fun and if the movie when it gets starting just never stops and it's so weird when you look at it. I mean how Did This Get green. Lit is it such a weird **** sound effects and the costume and the production it's just so dirty that is fingerprints all over the place. You can see where they have put on the costumes and design but it is done so full-hearted and with love that you cannot look away. It's just so f** cute.

A fantastic start to a fantastic series... A near-flawless movie. Well-written. Good characters. Fantastic visual design and jaw-dropping special effects for the time that still honestly look great today. Good acting. It captures a wide range of emotions, all of them perfectly - fear, sadness, happiness, humor, adventure, tension, and, above all, magic... The main characters have grown so iconic that it's difficult to remember how amazing it is how awesome they are, and how well they work together as characters. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Obi-Wan, Vader... They all work so perfectly together. And that third act... The trench run is a truly astounding sequence, and is the most tense action scene in a film that I've ever seen. It's still near- perfect, even 46 years later. A fantastic film, and only improved by later installments.

A New hope may have started the franchise, but it is in no way close to the best film in it. Almost insultingly simplistic and very boring in many places, this is clearly from a time where people expected much less from cinema (not surprising, it comes from cinema's worst decade). The acting is pretty awful throughout and the plot is basic. Still, it's a decent chapter in the Saga

This movie started it all. What is not to like? It's basically a cowboy movie with light sabers. Todays Star Wars movies have no strength to them. The original six told stories that the audience could see growing before your eyes.
