Once the stardust settles and the generations of "Star Trek" fans pass in judgment, this splendid production may emerge as the best movie to date inspired by the multiple-series TV phenomenon created by the late Gene Roddenberry. [15 Nov. 1994]

Star Trek: Generations is a successful entry in the series, and a darn good film on its own.

Great Shatner tie-in. I would have liked to have gotten away from the ill-fitting Voyager uniforms, but they were pushed into that one. Great use of Guinan. All in all, maintained the vibe of TNG very well, while adding a little more flash.

Three things make the film worthwhile: Shatner's performance; the sequence involving Data getting his "emotion chip" implant; and John Alonzo's crystalline cinematography, which makes Generations the most beautiful Trek ever. [18 Nov. 1994, p.03]

For Trek devotees, it's a supernova of unpredictable sci-fi thrills, though the earthbound may find this trip through the heavens a bit tiresome, especially when the movie tries too hard to wax philosophic. [18 Nov. 1994, p.88]

"Generations" is predictably flabby and impenetrable in places, but it has enough pomp, spectacle and high-tech small talk to keep the franchise afloat. And in an age when much fancier futuristic effects can be found elsewhere, even its tackiness is a comfort.

Here is a movie so concerned with in-jokes and updates for Trekkers that it can barely tear itself away long enough to tell a story. From the weight and attention given to the transfer of command on the Starship Enterprise, you'd think a millennium was ending - which is, by the end of the film, how it feels.

All the special effects in the universe don't make up for a lame plot, though. There's something foul about a Star Trek movie so apparently slapdash: the creators know that legions of fans will show up, no matter what. [18 Nov. 1994]

An underwhelming movie that could be an episode or two parter for the TV series. The premise itself was great. A film with both beloved crews or at least many of the characters. The execution sadly did not live up to this. Lets start at the beginning: Its starts with the maiden voyage of the Enterprise B and changes with a time-jump to TNG. The beginning is a satisfying setup but then the movie declines. The following parts while not boring or bad are not meaningful enough to carry the story. It is interesting for fans including me because we are familiar with many things here but you will have trouble to find fans that are excited by this movie. The characters deliver a good performance but I wont say there is an outstanding performance except for Data and Soran. Soran is a driven and interesting character. Honourable mention for Guinan. Kirks final fate is a disgrace to the character. He should have either a happy ever after or an ending worthy of a legendary character. By the way my favourite captains are Sisko, Picard and then Kirk in that order so I am not a Kirk fanboy (He is good at solving problems but he created some of them). The story itself and the idea of the nexus are great. I also like the interesting idea that makes the battle at the end nasty for the Enterprise. The final should be more memorable but it is still not as emotional as the same scene in Star Trek 3. I cant even point out why. I sound again to negative. This is no angry rant because this is no failure. Overall an entertaining but also forgettable movie. As you have heard the even numbered Star Trek movies are the good once (Until 10).

This film is the seventh of the franchise and renews almost everything, as we advance in time to follow the adventures of Captain Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, the new protagonist. Okay, in this film William Shatner still makes a brief appearance, but this happens in a context that the script clearly specifies, and which may (or may not) make logical sense. Either way, the film deserves a positive note regarding the use of new special effects and technologies. They have proved to be very useful to the film. I also liked the new improved sets and costumes. As far as the actors' work is concerned, Stewart does not disappoint, giving us a good participation, but I also really enjoyed the performance of Malcolm McDowell as the villain and Brent Spiner as Data, a humanoid robot who has difficulty understanding feelings. The franchise, thus, takes up a new breath, and this is a good promise for the future.

This movie is mediocre. I was expecting,by me, to be one of the pick events of the franchise, the end of TNG with t Kirk, but it was pretty bad. The story was not that interesting. Only data character show progress, other characters did nothing and had 0 progress.
