Source material was very strong. Execution wasn't. The concept was pretty standard from PKD, meaning it was quite good. The problem was that it was sold poorly, and didn't receive the funding to make a good movie. The director didn't have a unique voice, or even try to capture PKD's. The actors were alright, but the dialogue had some very week moments. Overall, it just feels like a very strong book that was turned into a pretty mediocre movie. Worth watching, for concept alone.

Deliberately slow. Pacing is somewhat brutal, if you're hoping for something to actually happen. I feel like the use of flashbacks were misplaced. Usually, flashbacks are used as a narrative device to explain something, or round out a character/story. These did neither. They gave us a tiny bit of backstory, but they didn't change my perception of the movie or characters.
Premise was alright, but nothing amazing. Acting was solid, but it pretty much had to be, considering 90% of the film is just the 2 of them. Overall, not a bad movie. But I won't be recommending it, or re-watching it.

Kiersey Clemons carries this movie, by a long shot. The rest wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything amazing. And some of the monster shots looked very low budget. Worth watching once, as long as you don't pay for it.

Some of Spike Lee's best work. The material was edgy enough that Spike didn't bother to add his edgy camera angles and close-ups, which helped. Solid movie. Even better, because it's based in truth.

Favreau at his best. Well-written. Great acting. Lovable. Somewhat predictable, but in a feel-good way.

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope8
Jan 25, 2021
A classic, must-watch film. It's not the best in the trilogy, but it's a good introduction into a very strong universe. The touch of incest is unique, but it is what it is. It was a different time. :D

Great Shatner tie-in. I would have liked to have gotten away from the ill-fitting Voyager uniforms, but they were pushed into that one. Great use of Guinan. All in all, maintained the vibe of TNG very well, while adding a little more flash.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi7
Jan 25, 2021
A solid conclusion to an epic trilogy. Lots of closure. Some scenes seemed a bit like merchandising opportunities, but still solid. And it holds up well, many years later.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace4

Darth Maul and Liam Neeson can't save this movie. The massive shift in tone, as well as the over-animated visuals are just some of the issues. Anakin and Jar Jar are the worst, though.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back9

The best Star Wars movie, made to date (I'm writing this in 2021). Big plot elements. Lots of build up to Episode VI. Very well done.

The first in the series is worth watching, as it builds a moderately compelling utopia/dystopia blend. But this quickly gives way to teen romance, and rehashed character types.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith7
Jan 25, 2021
The best of the prequel trilogy, but still not amazing. Hayden's acting is over the top, with all the angst. Some other plot points feel forced, to connect to Episode IV. They tried to pay service to the fans, and partially succeeded.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones5

Despite the use of Samuel L Jackson, this is the 2nd worst Star Wars film made, to date. There's a galactic war going on, and instead of showing that, we get frolicking?

Acting was solid from Rockwell and Spacey. Visuals were solid. Most of the writing was solid, but fairly predictable. I'm aware it's a hard line to walk, when you have a big twist. If you give away too many clues, the viewer that pays attention catches on too fast. If you don't give enough clues, the viewer that isn't paying close attention gets lost. This was definitely a case of the former. Overall, a solid movie, but nothing amazing.
