The fun of Role Models is that it's a high-concept movie executed with speed and finesse and the kind of brusquely tossed-off obscene banter that can get you laughing before you know what hit you.

The surprisingly funny Role Models does three things extremely well. It gives killer roles to comic actors frequently stuck in ensembles. It directs hilariously harsh words at children and lets the children direct even harsher words back at the adults. And it's oddly determined to give a fair shake to fans of both medieval role-playing and the band Kiss.

Hilarious movie. Paul Rudd never disappoints. And the two performances by the littles are hilarious as well as a ridiculously funny small role from Jane Lynch. Definitely recommend this one.

Sometimes a shamelessly stoopid, proudly profane R-rated comedy is all you want out of life. Role Models more than fills the bill. It's killer funny.

You can probably figure out how this is all going to end, but it still has more laughs than you might think. Nobody gets more than the wonderful Jane Lynch as the ex-drug addict and director of the mentoring program.

Rudd and Scott hail from different universes of movie comedy, but manage together here just fine, particularly since each takes a different path.
50
It's disposable entertainment at its most extreme.

Where on the evolutionary scale of wacky-dudes-learn-to-grow-up movies does Role Models fall? Certainly less evolved than "Meatballs," but head and hairy knuckles above "Daddy Day Care" or "The Benchwarmers."

This is one of the funniest movies i've ever seen, the main characters all compliment each other nicely, my only complaint is that I'm not cool seeing a kid who looks about 10 years old cuss every sentence, but still a hilarious movie.

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott don't exactly push the boundaries of their typecasts as a pair of aging slackers - one relentless party animal, one dry, sarcastic **** (try to guess which is which) - in this by-the-books dirty comedy. Given the choice between a short jail sentence and one month working with a kids' organization, the two try their luck at babysitting and, predictably, learn a few basic lessons about fatherhood, maturity and responsibility along the way. The generic plot won't buck even the most gullible audience, but in truth it's really only there to give the trove of supporting comedians something to riff on in every scene. Jane Lynch and about two-thirds of the cast of MTV's old cult favorite The State make routine appearances, but the best lines come from Bobb'e Thompson, the kid under Scott's supervision. Though he's paired in almost every scene with Christopher Mintz-Plasse (better known as McLovin from 2007's Superbad), Thompson lives and breathes his character while Plasse merely fills a stiff, redundant role. Role Models produces a few good laughs, with plenty of opportunities for Lynch to make everyone (on-screen and off) feel totally uncomfortable, but at the end of the day it's no better than average.

WHAT I LIKED: An amusing tale that deals with some serious themes in a light hearted and fun way; there's some great relationship development too WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The plot is it's biggest downfall as there isn't really one at all - it's very basic and dull so the majority of the film is slow paced. Basically the overall idea of the film is very basic and struggles to fill a full film length VERDICT: 'Role Models' is an easy watching comedy that isn't bad, but lacks the pace and snappy nature a film like this needs thanks to it's simple plot.

There are comedies that thrive on excess, on jokes thrown without a safety net, on the thrill of watching something proudly inappropriate. Role Models tries to play in that field, but rarely lands a hit. It has a couple of moments that actually work —far too few for its runtime— and a handful of amusing ideas, but most of the time it feels like it’s trying way too hard to be **** issue isn’t stupidity itself, but repetition. The film keeps recycling the same setups, stretching situations that have already run their course, trusting volume over wit. When it works, you notice; when it doesn’t, which is most of the time, the humor becomes loud and exhausting. What holds it together, barely, is the cast and the occasional line of dialogue that manages to lift a scene. There’s also a certain accidental charm in how it brushes against nerd culture, though it never really commits to exploring it. It could have been sharper, meaner, less **** need to wrap everything up with a feel-good message ends up weighing it down. The movie wants to be crude but lovable, irreverent but sweet. That forced balance drains what little personality it **** a total disaster, but very much a missed opportunity. Out of countless attempts, only a couple genuinely land. The rest fades away in noise, sugar, and forgettable filler.
